Hey! I am in pre-IB and I would like to study Medicine. My next year subject choices are: bio HL chemistry HL English B HL Polish SL Philosophy SL Math SL. My dream universities are UCL, Edinburgh, Oxford or Imperial (well I was also thinking about Cambridge, but they require Math HL...). I was wondering what should I do, apart from having perfect grades? Any particular extracurriculars? How hard is it to get to those universities? thanks!

I was wondering how hard is biology higher level is, I am in pre-Ib right now. Before this year I had taken biology in the US in a regular high school academic level, this was in sophomore year i had gotten the grade (B+). I as wondering how difficult the class will be? Secondly I was wondering how Ib higher level compares to AP biology if it similar, do we learn just as much. I like the topic biology and want to take it but I am nervous I will not get a good grade, so I was thinking instead that I would do biology standard level and take psychology HL. Notes: I am a native English speaker and definitely taking both History and English HL Please help !!

Bio HL or eco HL?

Em...Hi I’m new to this forum and I’m a 10th grader. I’m doing 2 language A now. (English is not my native language.) I want to enter either business or medical field(sounds like a weird combination), and I really don’t know which one should I choose, bio HL or eco HL. (I chose chem HL as my science and B&M HL as my humanities.) I really don’t want to exhaust myself...since I will choose 2 language A(but both are SL) so I want it to be easier. Bio or eco? Thanks in advance! PS: Surely I’ll go to HK so B&M is not a problem, right?

Need some things cleared up about IB

I am currently in grade 8, and have already signed up for the IB program (Ontario, Canada). I'm confused how the pre-IB years work; will I be participating in the same classes as regular high school students and have my grades monitored to see if I qualify for IB? Or will be in separate rooms with other IB students doing different material than regular high school students? Also, is it possible to finish grade 10 English during the grade 9 summer and have a spare during the school year? Thanks in advance

I've been told by my school that I should start considering my options to apply for the IB at my school. I want to do: Spanish B HL Geography HL Biology HL English Lit. SL Maths Studies History SL For university, I would like to do an arts course. After looking at requirements and courses that I was interested in, I would love to do the BA at HKU, specialising in Geography and Hong Kong Studies (or anywhere to study geography or languages/cultures, but as far as I'm aware HKU is the only place that does hong kong studies, which is an area that I'm really interested in.) However, I'm worried that my courses aren't arts based, with a social and experimental science at HL. S…

Confused about subject choice for further studies in the US

Hello! I'm currently in Pre-ib and I start my first IB year this following August. We're supposed to make our subject choices, and I'm a little confused as of what American universtites expect of us. I'm not too sure what I want to do later in life, except that it'll be within the scientific field. I want the doors to be open for med/dentistry school, forensic science or researching. I'm thinking of double majoring in Bio and Chem, or just go with a major in Chemistry and a minor in biology. These three combinations are what I've come up with: HL Chem, Bio and English B SL Swedish lit, psychology, Math HL Chem, English B, Psychology SL Swedish lit, Bio, Math HL Bio, Engli…

Hey, my brother is currently in 10th Grade and he has to decide on his subjects soon. Hence, I would appreciate if you'd share your experiences. About him: He is a very strong student in all his subjects. He is highly interested in business & economics. However, our school does not offer these subjects before IB (so he has never studied it in school). He always scores top marks on Physics and Math exams. He is unaware if he should go into Business and Economics or Engineering (but it seems as he is likely to study Business later). His first choice would be: Economics HL Business & Management HL Physics HL Math SL German A SL English B SL Generally, what do you thi…

Ok so I feel really lost concerning my subject choices... The first dilemma: Becoming a journalist has been my main aim but I'm also really interested in nature and therefore considering to somehow work with wildlife... (I really don't wanna become a doctor and my chemistry skills kinda suck anyway, so it's just biology that I'm interested in (physics a bit as well). I guess I would make physics or chemistry SL but HL is probably not to consider.. The social sciences and writing are however stuff that I have no troubles with getting good grades in, so maybe this is to prefer after all. Since I'm not sure though, I would like to make my IB education as broad as possible. …

Hi guys! So I'm currently in my school's pre-IB programme and I have already signed up for the IB. But I really need help with my subject choices. Here is what I'm about to choose. Chemistry HL Biology HL Latvian HL English SL Math SL Geography SL Russian SL Do you think this subject combination might be too hard? Maybe I should take Economics SL instead of Geography? I know I only need 6 subjects but is it really much harder if I take 7? Do you have any experience with studying two sciences HL? I want to become a doctor, so I need Chem and Bio HL but a lot of people have been telling me that it's really difficult. Thanks in advance for any useful comments. (:

Hi everyone, I'm a 10th grader right now, and my school is trying to finish course choices extremely early this year to try to work out all of the scheduling problems that will inevitably come up, so they're asking us to have our choices ready in ~2 weeks. Here's the rest of my planned schedule so that you guys can see what it's like: HL English A HL French B HL Chem SL Math (no HL at school) SL Business and Management (There's a 90% chance I won't do history. I hate it. Always have, probably always will.) I'm a math/chem person (taking Calc right now if that helps), and I've heard way too many horror stories about HL Art, so I'm probably going to do a 2nd science. I just…

Could I get kicked out of MYP/Pre-IB & advice on exams/tests?

So I'm currently in Gr.9 of the MYP program and am worried about my marks... Before I entered the MYP program, my grades were great and I usually always got an 80%+ in all subjects. But since I entered the program and started highschool in september, my marks are dropping, mostly in math. The highest I ever got in math was a 5 (on a scale of 6) and that was only for a communication assignment. So far i've gotten two 3's, two 4's and one 5 (unit tests) I do study and do my homework, but it seems that every time I write a test I do badly on it. I know its only gr.9 math, but i'm finding the course really fast-paced and difficult. Plus, it's mandatory in my school to take t…

Hello. I am a sophomore in MYP and I have to think about classes for next year. I've always thought I would do HL Physics, Maths, Psychology, and English and SL Japanese and History. However, I recently found out that my school will allow me to take Psychology in the place of history. If I did that, I would do SL English and change my sixth subject to HL Chemistry. I am trying to decide which plan would be better for me. On one hand, I don't particularly like history, but I really liked chemistry. Plus, my chemistry teacher really liked me and wants me to take IB Chemistry. In her words, "I don't recommend double sciences to everybody, but I know you can do it." On the ot…

Hello! I will be starting my first year of IB in a couple of weeks, and I am still stressing about my courses, whether I have chosen the right ones yadda yadda. I am not sure what exactly I want to pursue in university, but I believe that it'll wither be something within law (human rights, particularly women's rights) or medicine (pediatrics). I have enrolled in courses that (I hope) will keep my options open. I shall be taking: ~IB Engligh ~IB French ~IB Biology ~IB Chemistry ~IB Economics ~IB History ~IB Math The reason why I am taking 7 IB courses is because (in case you haven't figured it out already) I am incredibly indecisive. So, at this time of the year, people at my school are contemplating switching classes, etc. for their junior and senior year. So, I thought I was all set: doing IB Diploma, with Math HL, Biology HL, English HL, Spanish HL, History SL, and Latin SL. Then I was presented with a possibility. You see, the people at my school have already made schedules according to every student's initial choice. So, you can only switch classes if it doesn't interfere with another class on your schedule. My friend wanted to take IB Latin instead of IB Art, but they wouldn't let her because IB Latin is at the same time as the IB Physics class she is in. So then, after one of my friends mention…

Just wondering, what do you guys think is the perfect combination to take... The combination that universities would go "oh wow this person is impressive" I would go with the one that shows you're well-rounded. I'd say: English HL History HL Maths HL Physics SL Economics *Second Language, or another language A* SL I think History is an impressive subject since I believe that it is the hardest group 3. And I think that economics is useful. I mean obviously the reason why I didn't pick these subjects myself is because I wouldn't be able to cope with it. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK?
