My family is going to move to another city where IB is offered, and they want me to apply relatively soon( End of November). I will be going into Grade 10, and was wondering what kinds of things should I prepare for, and what are some ways to prepare for them? Thanks,

Hi, I am currently a freshman in the Pre-IB program. As part of our curriculum we take Inquiry Skills (aka the survival class), and we were recently assigned a project involving IB schools worldwide. We have to select, research, and create a powerpoint on a foreign (I live in the U.S.) IB school. Besides for just learning general facts about it, we have to apply how the culture of the country impacts the school. (Really it seems like quite an easy project) My real dilemma here is the fact that there are over 3,500 IB schools worldwide. I want to pick one that really embraces the IB mission statement of cultural respect and understanding, and is interesting, also, of cours…

Hello IBSurvival! This is my first post here but I've been reading this forum ever since I started going to a international school (March this year). Anyway, I just started my IGCSE's and so far it has been a smooth jurney, BUT today my maths teacher asked me after lesson if I would like to do additional mathematics, as I've had really good grades and on my last test I had an average of 98%. I have overall pretty good academic results, last year I've had an average of 6.7 out of all my subjects... There are only 2 people taking this class right now and so far they didn't do anything hard, but it's the beginning of the school year so they didn't really have many lessons …

Hello IBSurvival! I just registered and i'm already really into the site , I'll be starting the DP in september, but have not taken the MYP. I'll be changing schools, and my old school had IGCSE's but i only took math, english as a second language, and computer science. I got an A* in computer science, which i did in grade 9, and haven't received my grade for the other two yet (but i'm pretty sure i got A* for math and A*/A for english. I'll be taking Math HL Chemistry HL Physics HL English A SL Arabic B SL Economics SL (Most Likely, not really into Psychology or History, which are the other options at my new school). I'm pretty good at math and the sciences,…

I'm from Norway, and I'm starting VideregÃ¥ende (upper secondary school basically), taking Pre-IB the first year. It's probably too early to start thinking about what subjects I'll be taking when doing the IB, but I like to plan ahead. Really, I'm just wondering how this schedule sounds: HL: Norwegian HL English HL History HL SL: French SL Biology SL Math Studies SL I'm considering taking Math SL, but math doesn't come easy to me at all, whereas history (!!!) and languages does. We grade by 1-6 here in Norway (6 being the best and 1 the worst), and I'm usually at a 3 at math. The thing is, I'm not planning on doing anything related to math in the future, so will mat…

Hi there! Im 17 and I just finished my IGCSEs exams. Did did all the standard ones. For university I want to go to Bath and study mechanical engineering and I have already chosen my subjects; HL Maths HL Physics HL Economics SL German SL Eng Lit SL Chemistry My strongest subjects by far are physics and maths, and I am very passionate about both of them. I also love chemistry but I think doing chem HL would be too much. Everyone has been telling me how difficult and suicidal i am taking HL maths, but all the unis require it and I want to do it. Is there anything I can do prepare myself for the maths? I hope to get some A* in my igcses but i think i got it for ma…

Should i change it into another subject, likewise, history? Please help me!! I solely left one day to give this decision. Thanks

Hey, I'm starting IB next year and I'm having trouble choosing my subjects. If someone could give me some advice that would be great. (it's kinda due tomorrow) So right now I'm planning to take: Maths HL (this is the only one we have to choose HL now) Chemistry (will probably do HL) French B English Lit History Bio or Physics I'm mainly having issues choosing between biology and physics. We haven't really done much of it before. I'm leaning towards physics but am concerned that I'll end up hating it and not being able to switch. Also my mom really wants me to do bio because she thinks physics is too hard. To anyone who has done my combination of subjects or similar, w…

Hi, i want to study in England and recently i have heard that some subjects are better than the others, i mean universities like some subjects better. So firstly my plan was to take : Polish Hl English Hl Geography Hl Biology Sl Maths Sl History Sl But now i am thinking if there is any sense in doing hl Polish, maybe i should just do hl History. Originally I chose to take Psychology HL as my Group 6, while my group 2 is History HL. The problem is I really want to do Philosophy, unfortunately it is not offered at my school although they provide an online course but SL Philosophy not HL. After reading some materials in Psychology HL, I found out I am not really interested on the topics it covers. Therefore I am planning to change my Psychology HL to Philosophy SL, I will not change History HL because it's probably the best subject I am good at. If I change my Psychology HL to Philosophy SL, I am planning to change my group 4 subject to Biology HL instead of Chemistry or Physics HL. I know there are large contents…

Hey there! I have never been a part of any IBO programme (like the Middle Years one) before. I finished my first year of high school in Poland. Prior to having moved to Sweden, I got into the IBDP there (I passed the entrance exam in February.) The school's IB coordinator told me that, judging by my performance, there's no point in me attending the pre-IB (I didn't want to do so simply because of my age.) As a natural researcher, I'm pretty sunk up with everything I've read about the IB and its, uh, urban horror legends... Should I actually worry about starting the programme without the pre-IB year?

Hi! So I'm new here and I'm really not sure this is in the right topic but I'm a raising junior and I'm starting IB in August and I'm still debating on my schedule: HL: Bio Arabic Psychology (or maybe Econ) SL: Chem English Math I'm hoping to do medical when I graduate. I can't decide if I should take psych or Econ cause in our school psych is apparently the hardest ib class you can take from the humanities once. I was also thinking maybe I should take IB Econ and take psych as an AP class so it won't effect me getting my diploma! For everyone who finished IB, was it worth it? Do you feel satisfied that you took it? And how can IB students manage to study for SAT/ACT w…

In my school the non IB French course is called FSF1D1, but in Grade 9 Pre-IB it's called FSF1D7. Can anyone tell me how french between both of these courses differ? From my understanding the Pre-IB courses, are just slightly harder than normal academic courses, is this true? What's your experience like doing the Pre-IB grade 9 french course? With my current french marks, will I be alright next year in French. My school recommends 75% in each subject, I'm currently averaging 71% in French. What is FSF1D7(Pre-IB grade 9) like? In grade 8 French Term II these were my marks: Reading: 70% Oral Communication: 70% Writing: 72% Tips and thoughts. Thank you.

I'm afraid that they can't teach us correctly, what should i do to prepare things to get 35 points above in all subjects? is self-study method useful for getting 6-7 points for one subject? or is there any method that is more useful than self-study? In Canada, the regular high school curriculum, academic and applied courses. Academic being the more complex of the two. In Grade 9 Pre-IB my school automatically signs me up for all academic courses, in IB you can't applied courses(more primitive). How different is pre-IB grade 9, compared to regular academic grade 9 courses, is grade 9 pre-IB significantly more challenging? I'm worried about my french marks, however. We only have three choices for standard level at my school, economics, art, and music. I can't do music because I'm really bad at it haha. I've heard(from AP students) that economics is mostly math, which is my weakest subject. I was thinking I could do art but I haven't taken any art courses since middle school(I'm in tenth grade now and I'll be in the IB Diploma program next fall). I'm not sure what to do. At the moment I am in the MYP program but am already thinking seriously about DP. I've considered what classes I should take and basically I've narrowed it down to two options. 1. HL - English A HL - Biology HL - Chem. SL - Spanish A (I've been taking it for 11 years) SL - Math SL - Psychology 2. HL - European History HL - Biology HL - Chemistry SL - Spanish A SL - Math SL - English A Later in life I want to become a neuropsychologist, which is why I want the bio and psych (only offered at SL at my school), but I'm wondering if HL English is the right choice. Hello guys, So I'm going into the IBD Progam this upcoming September, and just this month my school decided to remove HL Math from the IB Program (which I was taking), because everyone in our school who was in it were pretty much failing or barely passing (they said they are not changing this decision). This removal of HL Math effected my entire IB schedule. Prior to the removal, I was taking HL Math, Chemistry, and English, and SL Physics, History, and French. As HL Math is removed, I will now have to take SL Math, which means I need to remove one of my SL's. Also I have to add in that SL I remove in for my HL spot (after HL Math was removed). So I basically need to sw…

Here are the courses I plan on taking next year. HL: English HL Social Studies HL Biology HL SL: Math SL Economics SL Spanish SL Do you think taking these courses is a good idea? Someone on this forum said to 'take your sevens when you can'. I have been debating if I should take art SL or economics SL and wanted to know which would be easier. I'm not going into economics or art by the way. It's not like I'm looking for the easy way out but I already have a hefty course level already so it would be nice to have an sL that wouldn't be as rigorous. Also, what do you think of my other selections? Thoughts? Opinions? Thank you for any input you may give me!

Hello, I'll be starting IB this September and I wanted to know if there is still time for a social life and free time. I am aware that in order to succeed in IB you'll need to dedicate a lot of time to your studies, thus sacrificing time from social life and such, but is there still any room for free time, like on the weekends? I want to succeed in IB, but I still want to have room for a social life and free time for myself. From what I've heard (other people, internet), it seems as if it's always work, work, and more work. If someone can shine some light on this issue that'd be great. Thanks.

Hey all you great people! Hey guys, this is my first post, so please bear with me I'm in my school's core french program, which gives the students the skills necessary to perform well in the IB SL French course. Hi guys I'm deciding on my subjects for next year right now and one thing that is really troubling me is the English that I want to do. Well technically, I don't want to do English (I'm pretty bad at it) so I decided to take Language and Literature which people said was much easier. However, today a DP English teacher came in and talked about L&L saying that it was a lot of work and that it might possibly interfere with the HL subjects that I will do.
