Hey there, This is my first year of IBDP, and I've chosen Visual Arts at an SL level. We're already in our 3rd month of the course but our teacher is bit of a snob and frankly, I can't figure out what to do with this subject. I'm supposed to come up with a theme for all my SL artworks by monday, and based on that theme prepare a draft sketch of a installation we are supposed to make before December. I've thought about some theme ideas and this is what I could come up with: Desolation: How alienated and desolated we feel from our surroundings. Out of place: Being differe

This is quite a long story but I'm going to make it as short as possible. So when I first got my EE form, I put English Literature as my subject and put my two suggested supervisors who are both familiar with the subject. However, I was given a completely different supervisor who bases her teaching on VA. Though she told me I can focus on any subject like History, English or VA since she majors on them on the first meeting I had with her. Moreover, the DP Coordinator a few months ago, asked what subject my EE was and I said English whilst I had already submitted a VA EE. I don't really kn

Hi Guys, I chose to write an essay on, 'To what degree did the acculturation of European standards into the arts of the Yoruba people during British colonial rule destroy their indigenous visual culture depicted through their sculptures?'. First of all, I am not sure on whether this is a valid example to focus on essay on. My supervisor who is also an examiner said it was, but honestly I'm not sure. what do you guys think? Also is anyone willing to proof read my essay and crosscheck to see whether everything is in check because I kind of do not trust my feed up and I really

So, I am planning on doing my EE in Art and I was thinking of doing the topic "How are American and Japanese art influenced by one another and how are they different?", or something along those lines. Is this too vague? Should I specify a specific area of art? Can I even use this topic? Any feedback and suggestions would be awesome. Also, my 2,000 words checkpoint is next week and I haven't started yet, so please help ASAP!

hi, im only in ib visual arts and i was wondering if i wont be allowed to graduate if i don't pass the exam, regardless of my course grade. my grades were fine last semester (average in the 90s) but im almost sure ill fail the exam because of my vaj pages. my studies in college will have nothing to do with art, so that's not a problem either.

Hey Guys, I'm quite stuck on how to write my introduction for the extended essay. The thing is that now, since we don't need the abstract, I'm wondering what words I can use to link or relate the methods and content that will be discussed in the essay with the research question. My art supervisor somehow cannot access the think IB web therefore I don't have access to any guide or sample EE. Does anyone know or have a link to a recent arts Extended essay? Thnx Kind Regards AZ

Hi! I'm new to the website but I'm currently an IB1 doing Visual Arts HL. So far everything's going great but I'm wondering if there is a criteria guide that defines final artworks that one creates? I usually get 7s or 6s on my pieces, but I recently got lower this time and I don't know why. I wouldn't expect there to be such a guide, as art essentially has no limits, but I just want to know if there are certain points that we have to achieve for a good/suitable artwork, unless its all really up to the teacher's opinion with no explanation. Thank you in advance for any help at all! Appre

Hey everyone, I've noticed that there is a lack of Theater Arts students on this website and I struggle to find help and advice for my Theater class. Today I decided to put that behind me considering I have been through a lot during my theater journey and decided it would be easier for me to just create a forum for the new Theater Arts students from 2016 onward. This forum will be a discussion point for everything Theater based from the Nov 2016 session and for the years to come (unless they change the syllabus again). Please feel free to ask me any questions that might concern you

Im having a hard time deciding on my theme for arts. I was thinking witchcraft but I cannot think of many pieces I could make related to it except from tarot cards. Anyone got any ideas for pieces or ideas for other themes?

Hi guys, I'm in my 1st year of DP and our EE coordinator told us to start writing up a proposal for our EE. Now I have a slight dilemma with my subject choices: I really want to do either History or Visual Arts, however, there is an issue with both of them. History: I want to pursue a career in History and I was going to take it up as an IB subject but since we do not have a DP History teacher, I did not - would it be wise to do an EE in a subject that it is not a subject of mine and has a MYP supervisor? I would like to add, though, that I really do like History. Visual Arts:

I am a 2017 May graduates and I did quite well, however, my art grade was not what I wanted or needed to get into the university that I wanted. I have spoken to my DP co-ordinator (who I don't trust in the slightest because she recently became the co-ordinator and was my teacher before that. Imagine the worst kind of teacher and thats only half the story). She has now told me that she's pretty sure that I won't be able to re-do the visual arts course and that she can't send in the different components either, even though we documented absolutely everything! So my question is: is she right?? an

Hello, I'm planning on some art pieces and I want to use some old childhood photos in a collage type thing. Would I be able to do that, because they wouldn't have been taken by me or during the 2-year program? Also, I'm wondering if it's ok if I use reference photos from my friends that they've taken themselves. Thanks!

Hi, so I take Visual Arts HL (now Y13), and am preparing my artworks for exhibition 2017. Would I be in any sort of trouble if I published photographs, sketches, etc. onto the internet? For example, could Turn-it-in find it and penalise me (based on the same photographs, writing, etc.) even if the work was completely mine anyway? I understand that the IB is extremely strict when it comes to plagiarism, so I have refrained from doing so so far... but I had this idea a while ago because I think writing it out informally at first, maybe even presenting it online to an audience and getti

Hi! So I've decided to write my EE in visual arts. We have around 2 more weeks to make preliminary research questions or at least decide on an area of study. I'm from Russia and I've always been very interested in the time period around WWII - Cold War and I've recently found out about how CIA used the works of artists like Pollock, Kline and de Kooning as propaganda/weapon against the Soviet Union during the Cold War. This spiked my interest greatly and I would love to write an extended essay about something that has to do with this. But I am not quite sure in what direction I should go and h

Hi! So as my title says, I am planning on writing an EE in visual arts, but there is a problem - I have not taken visual arts in the IB. I have been in love with art for as long as I can remember, my entire room is filled with prints and paintings from various artists and I frequently make art in my spare time. So yeah, I'm a giant art nerd. However, I am not that familiar with all the art theory (colours, lines, lightning, all the stuff I heard my VA friends talk about), and I wonder if that would be a huge disadvantage? Also, does the new change for the extended essay somehow affect how easy
