Hi, I'm a tenth grader (MYP) and am pursuing the full IBDP next year, and am having some difficulties with course selections. So, math and science are definitely not my strongest subjects. I'm in a combined Algebra II/Trig class right now, but not doing too great (B's, and maybe a C or even D this quarter depending on the next day or two...) I had originally decided to take Math Studies and SL Environmental Systems and Societies, thinking that they were still challenging but supposedly (according to the course catalog) less calculus-oriented and math-intensive, respectively. Today, my guidance counselor informed me that I couldn't expect to get into my dream school (Ober…

These are my final (can be changed) choices for next year: HL Math HL Physics HL Economics SL English Lang & Lit Spanish ab initio SL History I'm more of a math person and I'm really weak with languages (history is a weird exception though) My grades right now for these subjects are: Math - 7 Humanities (group 3) - 7 Science - 7 English - 5 French - 6 (taking Spanish anyways) Do you think I will manage the work? And how much of a leap is it from MYP to DP?

I'm going to take the IBDP course next school year (Y12/Junior Year) but I'm still having some trouble deciding what subjects I should be taking. I want to go towards the Psychology/Neuroscience/Pharmacology direction as major in university. I heard that apparently you need Math HL and/or Biology HL if you want to major Psychology in university? Anyways, below are the choice of subjects I'm considering: Group 1 - English A Literature SL Group 2 - Chinese A Language and Literature SL Group 3 - Psychology HL or Economics/Business&Management SL Group 4 - Biology HL Group 5 - Maths HL Group 6 - Chemistry SL/HL I'm definitely sure about my Group 1 & 2 subjects but I'm …

Economics VS Psychology

I'm trying to choose between SL Economics and SL Psychology. I'd like to go into either a social science or something in ethics. I'm not a math or science person by any means, but economics might be beneficial if I go into politics or the like. I've heard great things about the psychology course, and I think it would interest me more. My school doesn't have the best course selection, at least for my interests, but this is what I'm looking at taking. HL English HL History HL Chemistry ( I have to take chemistry or physics at higher level to meet requirements) SL Math SL French SL Economics or Psychology Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hi so I'm choosing my subjects for next year and I really can't make decision. I'm aiming to major in Computer science, so I took Math HL and Physcis SL, but teachers keep saying that Math HL is extremely demanding.. So I want to know if it's actually doable if I study really hard. (Currently my average is 6 in my Hl/sl group) Also, I find physics VERY difficult even though I'm only in pre-IB class. Is physics sl really really difficult(like you can never get 7) and is it doable even for people not talented in physics? Thank you )

Hello everyone, Question 1: I am interested in studying law, engineering or business at univesity but I don't really need what subject to choose that would be a good base for my university studies.. So I would like you to make up a subject choice list like this one above that would prepare me well for atleast engineering and law studies, preferrably all 3 subjects that I would like to study at university. I have come this far myself: HL/SL Physics HL Psychology HL Economics SL/HL Maths SL Swedish SL/HL English/French B Note: my school does not offer Business and Management so I cannot choose that. Question 2: I am interested in studying mandarin ab initio but my school …

So I will be starting the IB next year and have started selecting my subjects, but I am debating whether or not to keep the four higher levels I want to take. Ideally, I would go into film someday. English Lit HL Psychology HL Theatre Arts HL Chemistry HL French B SL Maths SL The thing with Chemistry is that (despite many people finding me weird for saying so) I really genuinely enjoy Chemistry and want to learn much more about it. As for Psychology, I believe it could really help me regardless of my career choice and whilst I'm doing it now for IGCSE I find it really interesting. I know that Theatre Arts are very, very difficult for those without real talent but I have b…

Hello all ! So course selection is in the next few weeks and I had decided a while ago I wanted to take HL physics, chem and economics SL French, Math and English Lit. However, at an information session I went to tonight I found out Economics HL was no longer being offered. The only other option in offered at my school is History SL/HL but honestly it's out of the question. I really had an interest in Econ and I don't want to bump any of my other SL courses to HL. So, I was wondering if any of you all have taken/currently take an online IB course? Did you find a big difference between online and in the classroom? Oh and also if anyone can offer any insight when it come…

At my old school, I took French for five years, and the plan was that I would continue on to IB French. However, I switched schools at the beginning of 10th grade and my new school only offers Spanish and Mandarin. I'm in the process of choosing my courses for next year and I was wondering if it's possible to self-study Language B? I would prefer to do IB French rather than Spanish, probably at an SL level. Thanks!

Hi! I've been having a huge amount of trouble picking between HL Bio and HL Chem. I like Bio slightly more than Chem, but i find Chem easier than Bio, because I'm rubbish at memorising facts. I chose Bio, but I've been rethinking it several times. I'm not planning to do anything related to science in uni, instead I'm veering more towards law, geography or PPE As of the time of this posting, I've chosen: HL - Econ (Might change this to Psych), Geo, Bio SL - English Lang Lit (but this might change to Lit Performance), Mandarin B, Maths and in GCSE im doing Co-ordinated Science Economics Foreign Language Mandarin Extended Maths Geography Drama English Lit & English Lan…

Hi, I'm currently finalizing my IB choices for the coming two years, and am considering ITGS as one of my HL's. However after speaking to my counsellor, she mentioned something about how Ivy League's and other top universities aren't too keen on that nor Environmental Systems Studies SL as a science. Is this correct? As the title suggests, I'm quite curious on what the top/competitive universities' opinions are on ITGS and ESS for that matter. Any feedback would be amazingly helpful! Thanks

I'm soon entering 11th grade and therefore, have to start thinking about my subject choices. So I basically have everything down except for my English choice. First off, I'm not talented in this subject (I'm going for an engineering / finance career anyways) and so I think I'll be taking English Language and Literature. My question: Is Lang & Lit sort of like Math studies and ESS (the lower / easier version) or is it the same difficulty with just different topics? Literature analysis is probably the worst thing that I've done throughout my whole life. NO matter how hard I try, I'm stuck at a 5 in English right now. Thanks in advance!

It was exams a few weeks ago, and on Facebook all I could see was grade 12 IBers posting rage posts saying "Still not finished studying" at 2, 3 am in the morning...I also have read some blogs of students in Ivy League schools who claim that "it's prevalent to see people literate in five or six languages" at their schools. At the position of being in grade 9, I know this is all very far away from me, but I want to prepare for grade 11&12 and later on as best as I could. I maintain a schedule of reading French (Currently the original version of The Three Musketeers) and English literature two hours everyday, memorizing famous speeches and SAT vocab, and watch open Yale…

At the end of November I submitted my IB choices, back then I was more focused on a computer science course. However, after researching I have decided that I'm more focused on an economics course. Nonetheless, I have picked Maths HL Physics HL Economics HL Business SL Spanish AB INITIO English Lang&Lit Physics is not something I enjoy nor require, but if i took off physics I would need a science either at SL or HL, and ESS (Easier science) is only available at SL in my school. Hi guys, I finished IB DP last year, but my sister is about to choose her subjects. I was wondering if any of you guys know some of the rules regarding second (B) languages. She's Dutch, speaks fluent Dutch, but goes to an international school in Switzerland. She wants to take Dutch A (which is OK) but doesn't know if she wants to do English A or English B. She has been at the international school for around 3 years now, so she hasn't been doing EAL (basically the MYP equivalent of English B). Can she still take English B if she would prefer to do so? Also, this might sound horrendous to most of us: She would like to take five (!!!!!!!!) Higher Levels. Is this allowed? Ju…

So I'm starting freshman IB-MYP next year and hopefully will make it through all 4 years. I'm already in middle school MYP now, but it's simple middle school stuff. I'm so scared and confused. Is it possible that you can be in JUST geometry (not Honors Geometry) for freshman year?(I'm in Algebra 1-2 now). How did your freshman afterschool schedule work out? Where you overwhelmed with homework? Super long extended essays? Was it hard to keep up? Where you able to do 1.5 hours of afterschool sports, still get all your homework done and go to bed on time? BTW my HS will start at 7:15 and end at 2:00PM. -How often did you get essays for freshamn year? Anything will help!

Hello! Originally at the end of Semester 1 my English teacher did not recommend me to take English IB, which would prevent me from taking full IB. I went and talked to her, and she said that the main problem was one of the commentaries that I wrote, on an excerpt of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. She said that if I could rewrite it and then hand it in to her tomorrow, she might reconsider the recommendation. I've rewritten the commentary and I've had some of my classmates check it over, but we're all just pre-IB English students and they basically know what I know. I was wondering whether someone with more experience in this area might be willing to look it over for me, …

For the IB questionnaire where it asks "what activities are you involved in at your school or community?" do lessons that you take outside of school count? I'm kind of desperate to an activity that I can write on there because I'm only involved in one activity at my school right now. Also, does anyone know what part of the application counts the most? Like the questionnaire, report card, essay, or test? Thanks.

I'm applying for the IB program and we have to take an entrance test as well as fill out an application form. Regarding the application form, do any of you have tips on that? There are questions on it that ask what activities I'm involved in and what skills I can bring to the school. I did a rough draft and it's really mediocre. I'm just looking for any tips on the application form and also the test. Thanks.

Hello! I am currently in the process of choosing my HLs and SLs right now. I am a native Spanish speaker so I was thinking of doing Spanish B HL. Hello everyone, I'm in deep thought, whether I should take IB or not. If I take IB, I've to take Pre-IB first. But lots of people says things like, "Omg, IB's hard, don't take it" or "You'll fail easily, I put all-nighters everyday" It kinda makes me fearing IB, but I really wanna study Law at University of Bristol in UK and I've heard that IB is a bonus for getting into Uni? For the classes - I might consider taking Math studies, since I'm not good at Math at all, but is it true that some universities don't accept Math Studies? Please answer me, because I'm freaking out, and all my friends and class mates are taking AP. - Nimra Iqbal.
