SO tomorrow is My Bio IA first draft submission, which i have to present to my Biology teacher, Principal, Group 4 Faculty and DP coordinator. My topic is the effect of different auditory stimulus (in my case music) on the focus and concentration of a person (students). I came up with this idea 2 days ago and my teacher just approved it and asked me to prepare the required document. But I have no idea what I have to write in the first draft since I havent done my experiment yet so no result or anything. Kindly help me and lemme know what exactly a Biology IA first draft should contain.

I was just wondering if anyone has had a good experience writing a non-experimental (research-based) Biology EE or has any advice on that kind of topic. I want to do mine on stem cell research and obviously I can't do those experiments myself. Is it really such a bad idea to do a research-based bio EE? Will I fail?...

I want to test the effect of varying the concentration of an acid to observe how effective different concentrations are at delaying enzymatic browning. Will I be penalised for going with such a simple experimental procedure, or can I still achieve a 6/7 as long as my report is well-written? Cheers.

Lab Report Biology IA Salinities affect on Seed Germination
Simmo2108 posted a topic in Biology and ESS
I have to do a IA on the germination of seeds. I have my independent variable which is salinity. I am looking at it effect on the time it takes for a seed to germinate. I have a few questions, What is a good range of concentrations? How much of the concentration should I add? What is the best way to get my concentration? Should I add the concentration to the soil and add the salinity of the soil on top, or change the salinity of the soil to a fixed point? E.g. add 1% to soil or make the soil have 1% salinity. All help would be great! Thanks!- 6 replies

How bad is it if my EE is under 3500 words? I've heard EEs in the Sciences are typically shorter. Is there anyone who has scored an A or B with a word count under 3500? I feel like I just don't have much more to say about my experiment...

URGENT, Guys, can anyone tell me the word count for ESS IA, or how much can be the appropriate word count for it??

Hi everyone! I would be really grateful if you could take a minute to fill out this survey It’s for my Biology IA where I’m looking at the correlation between blood groups and Covid-19 symptoms. Hi =) I'm about to start on my biology EE and I've been researching a suitable question/topic to do it on. My supervisor has suggested I do it based on plants, and I'm following it seeing a safer path. What I have come up with is something like "The effect of common fertilizer vs organic fertilizer" or "The effect of leaf vs root application of water". Can anyone tell me if it sounds too common or if it is better to change it slightly?

Hi, I am doing my extended essay in biology(obvisly from the title). My topic is related to plant and the effects of different concentrations of vitamins on the rate of growth of Solanum lycopersicum (tomatos). I said this to my techer and emailed her my RQ "How does vitamin C, B and multivitamin affect the rate of growth of Solanum lycopersicum?" She told me the topic is good, however the RQ is not developed enough. Can anyone please tell me what I need to add to fix my RQ???? Thanks in advance!!!!!

Hi guys. For my biology IA topic, I decided to focus on genetics and the subtopic would be inheritance. I have a few ideas on what to focus on but I need to narrow it down. So here are some of my ideas: Investigate on genetic diseases. Find the correlation between the variables that led to a specific genetic disease. Investigate a specific gene that led to a genetic disease. Focus on dominant/recessive alleles and how they affect generations of families I was thinking to choose between with family genes or plant genes. What should I focus on?

Hey so I have a question. If lets say I do my IA in biology and follow an experiment that has been done before but I change a few things to make it my own? e.g the effect of temperature on seed germination but instead of copying the exact temperature conditions, I come up with my own. Is it plagiarism? Do you have to come up with your own experiment?I'm freaking out

Hello! I am a rising 11th grader and initially selected the courses: HL History, HL Geography, HL English LL, SL Spanish LL, SL Biology, and SL Math Applications and Interpretation. I am considering to switch from HL Geography to HL Biology, and change to SL Math Analysis. However, I would then have two very content heavy HL courses (Bio and History), which I have heard very bad things about. How do-able is it to do these courses together? Could someone also provide feedback on the new maths courses? While I heard that universities do not care which one you pick unless you study a mathema

Hi guys, recently I'm deciding my biology EE topic. My research question is about the caffeine effect on metabolism rate and i really want to do the plant experiment, but I'm not sure for how difficult this experiment will be😂. Had anyone done the similar experiments before? or any suggestions? Thanks!!

Hello everyone, it is urgent. I need to submit my biology lab report on next Monday, if someone is willing to correct it by giving me your Gmail account, it would be so helpful. The lab report is about the yeast respiration (2.8 Cell respiration). Could you please leave comments on my doc? I will share it with you. Thanks for your advance! Yours sincerely

Hi, I'm currently choosing my topic fo my IA and I'm really struggling with it. I'm aiming at 7 as the total score for Bio, so I would love to get the highest grade possible for my IA (possibly a 7). I want it to be simple and possible to do at home during lockdown. My first idea included the influence of pH on lactase, but it seems too simple to me, so I started to look for some other stuff. The topics that I was interested the most were enzymes (perhaps something more difficult and original than lactase) or something connected with yeast. My other idea was to do something connected

Hello! I am a junior in the IB programme and my IA rough draft is due next week and I was marking mine and i wanted to know if anybody knows what the boundaries are between a 7 and a 6. After marking me and my friends marking it, I got a 22/24 and I dont know whether that is a 6 or a 7! I saw that in 2016 this would be considered a 7 but I could not find any further information! Can anybody help me with this? Thanks 😊
