Right now I'm in the middle of my summer break, and I've been doing a lot of relaxing. My first year of IB starts at the end of August, and I want to start preparing in anyway that I can. Any suggestions? I'm planning on taking: HL Math HL English (A1) HL Psychology SL Spanish (A2) Environmental Systems

What IB subjects should I take to become a primary school teacher? I am in year 10 now and am thinking of... English A1 HL (Predicted A in lang. and lit. at GCSE) French B SL (Predicted B) OR Spanish ab initio (not studied) Geography HL (Predicted A) OR Psychology SL OR HL (not studied, predicted B in R.S.) Environmental Systems and Societies SL OR Biology HL OR SL (Predicted A/A* (2 GCSE's)) Mathematics HL (Predicted A* + A* Statistics) Theatre Studies HL (Predicted B in Drama) OR 2nd Group 3/4 option With the French option, although I am predicted B, it is the GCSE subject I am least comfortable with and I could easily get a C. Would scraping a B be sufficient for SL, o…

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, if it is, could someone move this? Anyways, I am a sophomore in High School. Obviously our IB Coordinator is VERY biased with IB when it comes to choosing your schedule. Right now, I really don't feel like I have the motivation to IB. Two years ago, apparently, you'd have to pair an SL class with an AP or some crazy nonsense like that. Now she tells us that "It's a lot better" and that "I should really take it". Now I really don't feel like I could do the full IB diploma. I just wanted to stick with Honors & do a few certificates such as French (my strongest subject) and Biology, because we have the chance to here. In my Honors cla…

I'm currently doing my GCSE's and I will be doing IB starting next year. I definitely want to take Economics SL, Spanish SL (I lived in spain for 9 years but attended english schools) and Math SL (since I'm not very keen on it). I also want to take English HL but the problem comes with the selection of the 2 experimental sciences I want to take at HL. I have A* for all my sciences up to now (final exams soon) so its not really a matter of what I find easier. I tend to prefer physics but I hear its mathematically demanding and I've also been told that you can't really take Bio to a higher level without chemistry. Any suggestions at all?

Hi everyone! I'm starting IB next year and according to my teacher we will have to hand in our subject choice soon. What do you think of this? Latvian A1 HL (this is mandatory for everyone) English A2 HL (I heard that there is a small difference between A2 HL and SL) History HL Geography SL Economics SL Biology SL Mathematics SL Only 3 HL's, but 7 subjects. Are 7 subjects much more difficult than 6? I'd like to drop one subject from group 3 but it seems that I can't because I'm really good at history and geography and these are my favorite classes. I think that economics are very useful and my parents insist on taking it as well. After finishing IB I consider studying …

I have about 5 days to submit my final FINAL choices. Ive thought about it for ages and I just cant decide.. Is taking 4 subjects on HL really really hard? My headmistress has reluctantly agreed to it , telling me I'll be sleeping 3 hours a night and Ill fail the course etc. My decision has been: HL: English Lit A2 Biology Geography History SL: Math SL, Polish A1 SL But after shes given me some thoguht I think I should change Geography HL to German B SL (supposedly the easiest subjects to get 7's from are languages) I dont know though id feel like such a cop out takign all the easiet subjects? Hey. Alright, so i've lived in Canada for 12 years, but i moved to Denmark almost three years ago. I absolutely love it here, i don't want to leave . Anyhow, i took MYP3&4 but instead of doing MYP5 i took the first year of the three year Danish high school which is called Gymnasium. My mother is Danish and has always spoken Danish to me; however, i only learned how to read and write it, when i moved to Denmark. So this year has definitely been a challenge for me, but i am getting pretty decent marks. The thing is, if i were to go into IB, it would be next year and I'm completely undecided. When i am finished with school, i would really like to work in the UN with som…

Hi! I'm new on here, my name is Ali. I am thinking about going full IB, but I'm not sure yet, and i have some questions. Can you take ToK only senior year? I'm not very good at memorizing dates and stuff, is there a history class that does do that? How hard is music IB (im in band)? I am an average student. I have been in challenge/honors classes my whole life, and i usually get B's A' and C's. I am motivated and i usually am a great test taker. Im a sophomore. the bottom line, should i do the full IB? i have to declare tomorrow.

Alright, so here's the deal. Today in my school, out teachers wrote us recommendations for our IB subjects. I originally wanted French SL and Music HL as two courses, but IB Music is not being offered next year. For French (B), there is no choice, and I have to do HL (our coordinator said she won't put me in SL- saying it's too easy.) So, is the following course combination too demanding? HL: Math, Physics, Chemistry (Instead of Music), and French B SL: English A1, History Note: I currently am doing well, but would like to see the opinions of people already in the IB. Replies would be appreciated

Right now I am picking my IB courses, and in terms of the sciences we have HL Biology and Chemistry, and SL Physics to choose from. The way our HL's work out we must choose one of Bio or Chem. I am interested in taking physics but am balking at the bio/chem choice. I don't have specific plans for what I'd want to take in university however as I peruse UBC and SFU and whatnot I notice that although some programs require any two science courses, many engineering and other science-type items require physics and chem. At the moment I'm signed up for physics and biology because bio initially appealed to me more... but I was wondering if I may very well be screwing myself over …

Well I heard about the programme in 9th grade when my school started getting information about it and then Sophomore year was the first time they initiated the programme and the Juniors this year are taking it. I did more reasearch on it throughout my freshmen year in highschool, then Sophomore year came and the school talked more about it and tried to recruit people ( I went to the meeting the school had and he talked about how he wanted to get double the people he got this year since he only had about 20 some students join ). Well I highly doubt many more people would join but thats beside the point. My question(s) is (are) what should I do to prepare myself for my firs…

The IB website and booklets of information state that no more than 4 HL courses may be taken. What would happen if you signed up for four HL courses? Would they prohibit you from taking them? Would you still get the diploma if you did take them? I am not planning on doing this, just curious as to the details, and as to the reasoning behind prohibiting students from taking advantage of academic opportunity.

I know some students, not personally, who have attempted taking another language as their sixth subject and I was curious as to how this was done. My school prepares students prior to their IB year by requiring to take five classes of their selected language, followed by the IB tests and potentially SAT II and etcetera. However, I would think it would becoming very confusing to manage two languages, on top of a regular IB schedule. Yet, I know of people who have accomplished it and although I do not believe my school allows it, I would still like to know more about it.

hii im really confused about what to take for my IB subjects... i want to take computer/IT related courses in uni at the UK... Hey all. -Bows- I am humbled to be in the presence of such smart people. Call me Jasmine, and I'm going to Gr. 9 in September into Pre-IB. I'm already scared as heck, because I know practically NOTHING about the IB program, and hardly anyone has ever stopped to explain to me in real life. I have recently seen the topic "Future IB Students" and how many kids are getting into the IB world this September , so i thought it wound be a good idea , to ask those ones who have experience at IB what it would be good to study this summer just before school starts. I've got some answers , that i should revision 1-2 subjects , but wouldn't it be better to revision what we've already done this year? Or should I leave everything behind me , and wait for the school to start?

So I'm starting IB1 next year after two pretty rigorous years of my school's Pre-IB program. And even though schedule choices were supposed to be finalized quite a while ago, I'm hoping I could maybe talk to my IB coordinate and change some things. As of right now, I'm taking: HL English A1 HL History HL Biology HL Spanish (A2 or B, I haven't decided) SL Math SL Philosophy HL English and History are required at my school. HL Biology used to be a one-year double period course mixed with AP Biology students but the IB didn't like that so it's officially a two-year course starting next year and they won't offer SL. I like the Biology teacher though and I think the course i…

Hello all ^^ another future IB student here, for September (after seeing how GCSE's go.. hmm.. O_O). Anyway, really glad to have found this forum! It's fantastic. There's certainly a feeling of community pervading the place but maybe the excitement overwhelms me I'm planning on taking: Physics HL Chemisty HL Maths HL Eng SL History SL French SL SLightly worried I made a wrong choice somewhere.. in the sense that, the idea ingrained in me is that a scientific career would be better when it comes to it - problem is, I enjoy English a lot. Before reading on... let me first say, I'm an extremely confused student at this point. First off, I've always been really interested in writing, and have always considered it as a dream career. Problem is... the chances of becoming a successful writer and basing your life off of it are extremely slim. That said, I need another field to go into as a source of stable income in the future. (especially since IB is not particularly geared towards the arts, and literature) So a few weeks ago when we had course selections, I decided that business would be a good field. Not because I'm really that interested in it, but because I'm pretty decent at Math, and at the time, I d…

Hello I’m considering shifting to the IB, so I’ve read this forum, and studied the structure of the IB in general. BUT, I’d like you to give me your thought of my situation. Currently I’m attending the 1st year of the Danish Gymnasium (stx), and frankly… it’s horrible! Academic incompetence is literally dominating throughout the classroom, and by that I mean that the majority aren’t well-prepared, lacks of basic understanding of the subjects, and doesn’t seem to have any purpose of being in an institution of higher education. It doesn’t normally tend to be so extreme, but I’ve got the worst of it. (Wasn't what I expected when I applied back then)... Anyway, is IB a great…

The Diploma Program that I am currently in is located within a public high school located in what is considered a kind of "ghetto" in what is known as one the worst cities in the United States. Next year, however, they are thinking about expanding to include an MYP program within the high school. That would mean that there would be 6-12 graders coming from around the city to attend the IB program along with the 9-12 graders that are attending the public high school. The program is isolated from the regular program so if you take an IB class then you are full IB, and that has led to some animosity from the students in the regular programs toward IB students in gen…

Well, my main interest are liberal arts. I am in no way wanting to be an engineer, but rather work as a journalist or work in Pyschology. I am a freshman in the IB and I am taking Speech, HL Algebra 2, HL English Course One, Pre IB Econ, Inquiry Skills, Spanish Two. My main question is for a Liberal Artist. Now, I now in order to understand the human mind, you must know biology. Let's set that aside, but for Journalism I would like to now which courses to take in Sophmore year this year, or next semester. My extra curriculum is Speech and Debate, and a Book Club. I am hoping to Join the News Paper by Sophmore year, and also take the journaling class. Thanks. IB Erick.

I think there are so many cool subjects out there - that I would love to take instead of the ones I take! But my school doesn't offer many, and there was quite a few restrictions on which subjects that you couldn't take if you took another one because of timetabling subjects. I would love to change English B to an ab initio language - would love to do Russian or Japanese. I would also love to do either Greek or Latin, one of the classical languages. I would also love to do music! Haha - if I were to do all the subjects I want, I would probably end up with like 10 subjects.
