Hi guys! I have just started my IB course( 1 week ) and yet its all good. I notice teachers go over the work faster than in the iGCSEs, but thats probably normal for this course, isnt it? I would like to ask you, who have finished IB or the first year, to give me advice what i should do now, which will help me to get a good score ( my aim 38+, my igcses were 3A*, 5A) Should i do things like doing notes of what we did in class, past papers or should that be saved unti the second year? I want to do as much possible, even if its just the first year, so it will help me do better in my second year and then well in my finals ! Please help, i am very motivated and i really want …

I have a little concern that is bothering me a lot! I am going to start the IBDP in 2 weeks, and I have just delivered my initial subject choices to the school. - This is what I chose: Group 1: Self-Taught Danish SL Group 2: English Language B HL Group 3: Business & Management HL Group 4: Physics SL Group 5: Maths SL Group 6: Economics HL I am in serious doubt whether I have chosen the correct subjects or not. Could any of you guys please give me some advice on the university possibilities with the choices I have made? I am not sure what I want to study after IB yet, but I think it will be something business related at a top university in the US, the UK or Souteast A…

I have decided that I will not be taking higher level mathematics as it is not a course requirement, this leave me with an open place for another higher level subject. The subjects that I can choose from are: Language A1 Psychology I am not sure on which will be better to take at higher level, please could you help me by giving your honest opinion on why I should or shouldn't take one of these at higher level. Edit Below I have never done psychology before, whilst doing GCSE's I have enjoyed English but I am not sure how much harder it will be from GCSE to IB; from SL to HL. Sorry about the lack of information before. Hope that is enough just ask if you need to know m…

Hey guys, I'm starting the IB in a week and I'm really nervous so some advice would be great these are the subject that I have chosen: HL-economics HL-english language and literature (its a new course) HL-biology SL-maths SL-french SL-chem the reason that I have chosen these subjects is because I really don't know what I want to do in the future, I'm interested in science but I do not want to do medicine and I am also interested in journalism but I don't know if I will do that in the future I'm really nervous because in 10th grade I really let myself down towards the end of the year I couldn't concentrate on my work and for my final grades I got mostly 4s …

Ok so at the moment these are the current lessons i take: Higher: English Business Biology Standard: Italian Geography Maths I just took my mocks exams for the end of year 12 and i utterly failed them. I really struggle with IB because im not the most academic person whatsoever. In the end i came out on average with 3's in my mocks for all of my subjects and that was with revision So im thinking of switching Biology with Geography, i know theres SO much to cover for biology and thought that maybe it would be easier to swap ? My essay skills arent exactly perfect either. Ive never done a language before so cant change italian and i cant do maths to save my life. …

In September, I will be begining the Diploma Program. The courses I will be talking are as follow: English HL European History HL Socio Cultrial Antrophology HL Biology SL Math SL French B SL How much course work and time do each subject require? Do you enjoy taking the course? How difficult is the course? Which subject on the list is your favourite? Least favourite? Thank you!

Hi, I was just wondering how big of a part your IB HL subjects play in terms of being accepted for a specific major in universities in the US. For example, if I did not take higher chemistry, would I still be able to take courses related to Biology/Biochemistry? Also, would doing an addition SAT II subject test in Chemistry suffice for the more selective universities? Thanks in advance!

In the fall I will be starting the IB diploma program... I have my HLs figured out and they are pretty set in stone, but it took me ages to work out my SLs. This ended up being my plan: HL English HL History HL Biology SL French SL Economics ... and math is where I have the difficulty! And I could really use some advice. I don't know whether to do SL or Math Studies. I despise math - I literally dread the class - and I've never been very good at it. Many of my friends who are a year older than me and far better at math find it really difficult, and I have no idea how I'd manage. I would need a tutor and it would take away from the focus of the subjects that I am a…

Hey, I go to an IB school in Toronto (Canada), in grade 10 pre-IB at the moment, and I'm having some difficulties deciding what HL courses to take for next year. Since it's different for all the schools, I'll just outline how it works for mine. It's actually really simple, HL History vs HL Math and HL Economics vs HL Chemistry (HL English is mandatory). My main problem is between HL History and HL Math. The thing is if you take HL History, you'll lose one of your sciences (SL bio/physics) in grade 12, but if you take HL Math, you get ZERO history. Pros (HL History): - Though people argue that it's not useful (since I want to go into the sciences), I think it'll really …

Hello! I’m currently in year 11 and graduating in June. Is there anything special that we have to get ready for in September and can we start our CAS hours (150 hours) during the summer and use it for our year 12 CAS program? And what is Theory of Knowledge and what do we do during those lessons. Is there anything special to prepare for those courses? It’d be great if I get some advice for next year =) Thank you~^^

Hi everyone ! Next year (normally) I'll join you in the IB ! The problem is that I don't already know what to do after... Is it a real problem or should I really know now ? In fact, I'm interested in some jobs like Veterinarian, Psychiatrist, Nutritionist... which are jobs rather related to medicine studies. So I was thinking of taking: French, English, Psychology, Biology, Maths, and Chemistry instead of Art. (Is it ok for the jobs I quoted ? (And for possibly others ?)) But I have some questions: First, what's the difference between Mathematics and Mathematical studies ? Secondly, should I take Maths HL for the kind of studies I want to do after ? (same ques…

Hey guys~ I'm just about to start the IB, and need some advice concerning subject selection. The uni courses I'm thinking about are vet science, marine bio, dentistry, medicine. Russian is practically my mother language and if I take it as a B language HL then 7 points are practically mine . But the problem is that I am very fond of German too, but I have studied it for only 3 years and am nowhere even close to Russian with it and I am scared of losing points and getting like 4-6 p. instead of 6 or 7. Now I dont't know what to take, a language which would give me max. points or a language new I could maybe learn to a normal level.. What do you think ? :/

I'll be taking IB next year (I'll be part of the May 2013 candidates), and here are my choices: Higher English A1 Lang and Lit Biology Chemistry Standard Maths (not Studies) Spanish B Psychology At the moment, I am most likely to go to a US university, but if I go to the UK my choices will set me up for a more scientific career. Do you think, with my choices, I could go into a non-scientific route? (Especially since sometimes psychology is considered a science, depending on who you ask.) I want to keep my options open, as I don't know what career I want to do in the future, but I could be limiting myself for all I know. Also, I don't mind swapping English and Spanish, but…

Hi! I'm going to be starting IB next year and I'm having some trouble finalising my higher subjects. I don't really have a definite idea of what I want to study in the future, but the social and life sciences really interest me and courses such as the Biological Sciences and Human Sciences seem very appealing. However I am also considering other courses that aren't so science oriented (Education? Communications?) It also really sucks because there isn't really a subject I would never do (aside from Higher Maths - I personally think that would be close to suicide ;P) I'm probably going to go to the States for uni rather than the UK so I don't really have any prerequisite…

Is the IB diploma really worth everything it takes to get to it? I'm a 10th grader, and I've planned to do the IB program come next year, but I'm starting to have doubts. As it is, my plan is: English A1 HL (May 2013) Spanish SL (May 2013) Math SL (2012) Biology HL (2013) History HL (2013) Theatre SL (2012) TOK (2013) EE in zoology (study of my local zoo's contributions to the American elephant program) I'm an actor, swimmer, and I volunteer at said zoo, so that takes care of CAS. Well? Is it really worth everything it takes to get there? P.S. My post high school plans are to take a year off, then either go to college, or go into acting professionally.

My choices so far are: English A1 HL Chemistry HL Economics/World History HL (unsure which to do here) Maths SL French B SL Spanish ab initio/ Biology SL 1. Do these subjects look alright? I am planning on keeping my options open as much as possbile, seeing as I am interested in Medicine and also law. Hello, I'm a student wondering about whether I should do A levels or the IB. I want to study medicine at university, and the main thing that attracts me to IB is how highly regarded it is by medical schools, and it would make me stand out I think. First off, nice forum! I'm impressed by the layout and features. I can't wait to peruse it further. So. I've been seriously considering taking the IBDP route, a road less commonly taken at my school, mostly because of the logistics involved- the program is situated at another school in our district. I'd say that on a scale of 1 to 5, I'm at a 4 for 'Likely' to go through with it. That's because for about a week, I've been devoted to gathering info to help with my decision. The CollegeConfidential Forum was the most helpful; there are dozens of pages long debates there on AP vs. IB. I'm in love with the curriculum, the mission, the elitism (I have to admit), the style of t…
