Hey, guys, I'm currently studying the IB MYP in French, in Egypt. I take Arabic and French as languages A, and English as my language B, but I'm relatively comfortable with English literature. I'm going to study for the diploma at Li Po Chun UWC starting this September and I'm making my subject choices right now. I'm opting to qualify for the bilingual diploma, and I'm planning on majoring in engineering. Your feedback and tips are much-appreciated So far that's how it is: HL: English A L&L Maths Physics SL: Arabic A Lit. Spanish Ab. initio Economics And the extended essay in Economics, written in French. Also, is it possible to study Chemistr…

hello, I need to choose my subject now, but i am still thinking about choose BNM or econ? I've chosen econ SL and BNM HL, but my teacher said it is really hard to study these two subject in the same time. So he recommend me to choose a group 4 subject(phy, chem, bio)( cuz i didn't choose any group 6 subject), but i am not good at science, so I should do BNM and Econ, or change econ to physic? PS. i want to study something about business in university

I have just finished my first year of A level. I took 3 subjects(English as a first language, History and Economics). I am going to Italy for IB diploma this August but I find it hard to decide which courses to take.My grades of AS history and Economics are great (both A* in exam) and it is likely that I will do well in the same subjects in IB too. But somehow I want to try something new! it's like I'm stuck in the middle, really worrying about my final results. The thing is I probably take Biology and Philosophy which I knew nothing about since my career choice will be related to Psychology and Sociology. I find A Level Mathematics difficult for me(I guess in that case…

Hi, I'm contemplating which subject to choose in group 2. I've done 4 years of French, but my school doesn't allow us to it at the ab initio level. I'm a 85% student in my French igcses. I've never done spanish. Can you tell me which one is more scoring? Oh ya, and thanks in advance. And I'll be giving my IB exams in May 2014

I'm currently signed up for HL English (required) SL Math SL Spanish HL Chemistry HL Psychology (Only offered in HL at my school) I need to choose another, and I was thinking of taking HL Biology (SL is not offered at my school), but am afraid that it'd be too difficult combined with my other courses, and was thinking of doing ESS instead, though I'm afraid I'd be bored of the subject. On the other hand, it might be something that I'd be able to learn to love. I'm basically asking if HL Bio, Chem, and Psych on top of CAS, an EE, and my SL's would be too much, and if I should just take Systems, or, if I were to take Biology, how doable that schedule would be. Any advice is…

Hey guys, I am currently in grade 9 and I found out that I was accepted into the Pre-IB/IB program. In september I will be going to grade 10 Pre-IB. I was thinking about the courses I will take in the real IB program (which starts in grade 11), and I decided to take the following courses: Group 1: English HL Group 2: French SL Group 3: Economics HL Group 4: Chemistry HL Group 5: Mathematics SL Group 6: Biology SL (I will substitute Biology SL for Group 6). I wanted to take English, Chemistry, and Biology as my HL subjects and French, Economics, and Mathematics as my SL subjects but my school doesn't offer Economics in SL. Hi, I am thinking about doing Chemistry HL in year 12, however i have heard myths about people dying and slaving over the work, and the pressures associated with the final exam. It is said that Chemistry HL is one of the hardest HL's to do in IB. Is this true? I definitely plan on doing chemistry for year 11 and 12, as I plan to study medicine (hopefully) during university. Does anyone have any tips on tackling Chemistry HL or SL? I have no problem in studying hard, however science does not come as naturally to me compares to others so none of this information would come very easily. I find chem really interesting but i'm worried that the extreme work load with put me off…

Today our Coordinator gave an interesting presentation on the PP for the MYP4 students who will be starting their projects next month. I learned that there is a new version of the PP Guide this year, and among the changes from previous years students must select only one of the 5 AOIs instead of several. He emphasized that each of the 7 assessment criteria are worth 4 points, which means that things like the Process Journal (recording the story from seed to Outcome) get just as many marks as the Outcome itself. The nice thing about the PP is that you have a completely free choice of the subject, so you can choose something about which you are (or can be) fairly passionate…

Hey so this topic is more for those people who want to take IB but are intimidated by what other people tell them about the courses that they're taking or whatever. I remember when I started IB people always said OMG you are taking math Higher and chemistry Higher those subjects are insane they will kill you blah blah blah. When I started with the courses though, yes Math HL was hard but like anything that is hard you have to put in some effort into it. I did have to put a bit more of an effort in math but seriously it wasn't like a herculean task or anything that its impossible to do well in. As far as chem HL goes, so many people fear it and say its hard. In reality tho…

Hey! I'm starting IB this fall, and I've chosen Math HL. It's hard - I'm aware - So how do you prepare? As some of you might know, Swedish math education is.. rubbish.. (sadly that's the only education I've had) Thus I hope to improve my skills before IB starts. A good first year student told me that if anything, I should try to start with and getting an understanding of calculus. He also told me about KhanAcademy as I had heard of before. So today I went in there, and I found myself confused about the two different categories; PreCalculus & Calculus. (I've never studied calculus nor do I know anything about it, so i'm sorry if this sounds dumb, but,) am I supposed to…

Ok, I'm just entering high school in september and am taking Pre Ib. My math score is a little low in seventies and on my exam I hadn't had time to finish some questions, like two-four. But I'm doing math with my friend who taught pre ib kids before maybe once a week. But I really want to get my mark HIGHER, I just need tips on how to maintain and do well in Pre ib on all the courses. Technically any course in pre Ib. Anyone who can help is GREATLY appreciated. And really good study habits that will be helpful? Thank you.

As I refer to the past papers and read about the IB final exam of Music HL, I realized that there are SO MUCH knowledge one expected to gain during the 2 year period of study as Music HL-er. That leads to the question: Do you learn all these knowledge within the DP syllabus and only within the DP music class? ?????I have not learnt any music theory or history .... I'll be starting as a full Diploma student in the fall, and I just got my very first IB summer assignment and list of required books for next year. This invoked my curiosity as to what other IBers have to do over the summer and read next year. I only have two summer assignments: to read, annotate, and answer questions on The Sorrow of War (Bao Ninh) for English I HL and to read the first few chapters and write an essay on The Radicalism of the American Revolution (Gordon S. As for required books for next year in English, we're supposed to read: Brave New World (Aldous Huxley) Candide (Voltaire) Catch-22 (Joseph Heller) The Handmaid's Ta…

In my school, we are currently choosing which course that we will do next year for IBDP, I have always been an ambitious overachiever. However, I recently got diagnosed with a lot of psychological disorders and my psychiatrist told me to stop being ambitious and take it easy in the IB, she told me that I MUST choose the easiest course combination that I can choose. I chose IB History HL, IB Math HL, IB Chem HL, IB English Text and Performance SL A1, IB Swedish SL, IB Psychology SL But my IB-coordinator states that combination is considered to be a suicidal combination which requires a lot of hard work, essay writing etc. Even I want to work as hard as possible, I still…

So, i'm really confused what HLs i should take. I'm already taking HL Chem but for my other HL, i'm debating between HL bio and HL french. Bio is okay...but I don't intend on going into the sciences..maybe..i'm not really sure and I hate the amount of memorization I would have to do. Then for french, i guess it's good too but in my grade I got the easy french teacher which is why i'm getting in the 90s but i'm afraid that if I get the harder french teacher next year and do HL...i will be screwed. Hello, I know I've made a lot of posts regarding my subject choices, but this will be my last one!! Here's the story: I started out the year with Geography, it was good and the teacher super nice, but after I tried a History class I really liked it and I switched to the class. That was about two weeks ago (March-December school), but after some classes I realized that I knew a lot of the things that we're studying/will study in History, and that I was learning more about the world in Geography. Ideally I'd like to go to the Huntsman Program at UPenn after I'm done with the IB (http://huntsman.upenn.edu/) which deals with Finance and International Studies. The date for swi…

So I'm currently in 9th grade, near the end of my first year of Pre-IB. So far I have found my classes far from difficult, but I feel that this is going to cause problems once I enter 11th grade IB. Hi all. I am a ninth grader in Seattle, Washington. I attend Garfield High School, and am doing four honors courses, and two AP classes. I understand most of the topics and things covered, but I don't enjoy learning in a "teach-to-the-test" manner. In fact, I don't perform at all on tests, even if I have studied for weeks before. Due to this major problem, I have four Cs along with two As. I get great grades on class participation and discussion style test things, and on projects. I don't really have a procrastination problem. And finally, two of my teachers this year have been horrible at communicating assignments, and one of them (the french teacher), doesn't really exp…

I'm currently choosing my DP options, and I'm interested in going into finance/accounting later on. My school's really small, so they don't offer Business and Management at standard level, and they don't let you take Eco HL and Business and Management HL. Would it therefore be better for me getting into college to study such courses, to take Economics HL [and then I can't do Business and Management but economics is more highly thought of anyway] or Economics at standard level with Business and management higher?
