Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on whether this topic is appropriate for a Math Exploration in HL. I am planning on analyzing Poker Odds, mainly by focusing on Pot and Card Odds. I will certainly be using conditional probability, Bayes Theorem, Factorials, Permutations, etc. I will basically give an invented scenario and, from there, I will find the probabilities of having a certain hand and of winning based on the opponent calling or betting. I will also use probability to determine if the odds of the hand are profitable to continue playing. So, what do you guys thin

Hi, I'm doing an IA on the volume and surface area of a torus, and I've already derived the equations needed. However, these equations and their derivations are widely found across the internet, so do you think it would turn up as plagiarisation? :0 Also, I'm thinking on optimising surface area with a fixed volume, meaning having the largest surface area with the smallest volume. How do you think I can do this, and whether the equations that I have just derived can play a part in this? Thanks a ton

I need some help deciding on my group 3. My school only offers History HL and Psychology HL, so I'm basically being forced to sacrifice one of my HL's to group 3. I'm interested in both, I like learning about history, and I also find Psychology fascinating. Ultimately, the deciding factor for my will be the IA. Which IA is easier? The IA for History HL or Psychology HL? Also workload and what you do in the class. Is there more work in History HL or Psychology HL? What kind of work

Can I choose a movie (instead of a literary text) and analyze it for my higher level essay? Would it make any difference with regards to grading and requirements?

Hi fellow IB students! I just wanted to let you know that there is a really useful and cool tool for IB Physics. Me and my classmate (i.e. also an IB student) have developed a twitter and an instagram for IB Physics related things and we would really appreciate if you followed us! It is basically something you can access from your mobile device at any time (since most of us have twitter and/or instagram accounts) and is therefore very available and handy. We post summaries on IB Physics topics as pictures on instagram (both SL and HL topics) and useful tips/stuff that relate to IB Physics

I need help choosing a Research Question for my History IA topic. So far I have brainstormed the following: - To what extent was Stalin's First 5 Year Plan successful? - To what extent was the Stalin's First 5 Year Plan motivated by political/economic/ideological reasons? ( I will choose one of the factors) - To what extent were the methods employed in Stalin's First 5 Year Plan successful in meeting its aims? - To what extent was collectivisation successful in increasing the industrial output/meeting the aims of Stalin's First 5 Year Plan? - To what extent was the Mar

PLEASEEE HELP ME DECIDE If you've taken HL economics and/or HL chemistry (or know anyone that has), I need your opinion because I'm really indecisive. My other HL's are HL math analysis and approaches and HL biology, but I'm conflicted between HL chem or econs. I'm considering studying medicine (then specialising in either neuroscience or cardiology) or maybe finance. Is HL chemistry really as hard as everyone says it is? Could I still go into medicine without taking Chemistry HL? pls send help

Hello! I'll be starting the IB in August, which is very exciting, but there is one thing that has been on my mind lately: my subject choices. Our choices had to be made a few months ago. During that time of choosing I decided to go with 4 HLs. At first my intention was to take the three subjects which were English A Lang. and Lit. Biology Chemistry But, because history has always interested me, I decided to add it my list of HL subjects. A reason for my choice was that I had this idea that getting a good grade in HL History is easier due to the fact that Paper 3 in the

Hello Can anyone tell me how big the gap between chem HL&SL and econ HL&SL are? I'm currently taking math, chem, physics HL & english langlit, mandarin B, econ SL. Would dropping chem from HL to SL and switching econ SL to HL reduce the workload? I already feel quite overwhelmed by the amount of work from math&physics HL

Hello, there! This is my first post here ever. So, I'm going to hand in the subjects option form two days later. But I have trouble making choices on English. I want to know the differences between English A SL and English B HL apart from the difficulties and quantity of assignments. Do both English A HL and SL focus on literature itself, whereas B focuses on the application of the language and cultures? Thanks!

Hey there! I was just wondering if anyone knows any good history resources to use. It's quite hard for me to memorize a lot so I'm very slow in comparison to my classmates because I like to take notes on the side of my book to get a better understanding. In my first history book (the move to global war), I was able to find sources on Youtube from a very good highschool professor who went through the book and explained the topics to his students and it helped me a lot. I can't seem to find similar videos for the rest of the books. Right now we're doing Authoritarian States (specifically Cu

Writing my math IA and I want to do something with earthquakes, but I have no idea where to start. I’ve been thinking about maybe doing epicenters or the Richter scale but I can’t find a solid way to incorporate them. If anyone has any ideas please reply!

For my physics EE I decided to look at gravity and stability(my topic) and "how does the loading of a truck affects the shift of the central gravity and how that shift affects the tipping point of a truck if its in a stationary position?"(research question) . For my experiment I've used blocks of different masses that I placed on a aluminium platform using different variation. Where aluminium platform is like a truck platform and the blocks that I used act like loading. So basically I placed them in different ways and looked at the which angle each object will tip over. In my essay I will show

Hello, I am starting my IB program this year and I was wondering, in order to take Language B (either SL or HL) do I have to know this language beforehand? I will be attending school in Sweden, however, I am not from there nor have I spent more than a month there. I am planning on taking Spanish HL (I have been studying Spanish for four years) and I really want to learn Swedish. So is it possible to learn a language without having an experience in target language? Thanks in advance!💘

Hey guys, I was assigned my first IA for HL bio today, and it has to be on osmosis. The topic is "What is the effect of variable X on osmosis rate?" however, the teacher said that it doesn't necessarily have to be about osmosis rate. I have some ideas so far, but I'm new to HL bio (well, bio in general, since I was in HL economics before) and I need some help and guidance in regards to good titles and labs for this topic. My ideas so far are: -Osmosis rates on different vegetables (potato, cabbage, idk.) -Osmosis rate for potato slices of different sizes (one with more surface area, etc.) -O

Hello, I have been an IB Physics teacher for several years and I started creating videos for my students and for my Physics website (PaperPlainz.com). I started uploading some of them on Youtube and I just wanted to let you know that you can watch them here. I am continually working on videos, practice questions and other IB Physics materials, so keep checking for new resources from time to time. Have a nice day, Peter

I need help... I don't know if I should choose Chemistry HL, I was a Core IGCSE student and I'm not very good at chemistry or an overall intelligent student , I was in the top 5 but as a class we are not very good anyway.Should i choose it i have until the 3rd of November to choose my options. Ohhhh. I'm also a hardcore procrastinator and never really do things on time. Is CHEM HL really hard? or if i study will i be able to do it

Hi, I'm sort of having a dilemma with my courses for next year. I'm currently in pre-IB (grade 10) and am entering IB next year. We already picked our courses, but there will be a day where changes to our courses can be changed. So currently, my courses for the next two years are: HL English (Lang/Lit) HL Biology HL History SL Chem SL Math SL French But, the thing is, I'm debating on switching HL History to HL Business. I'm going into sciences, so neither will really help me. I pretty much have no interest in either business or history either, but they're the only HL humanities that my
