  1. Guys could you please take a moment to fill out my math IA survey. Here is the link: https://forms.gle/oy8qgy75VRzJA2RTA
  2. Hi! What are you guys doing for your math exploration topics? Could anyone suggest a few to me? I really don't know what to do. Thanks! ______________________ IB makes me wanna
  3. Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on whether this topic is appropriate for a Math Exploration in HL. I am planning on analyzing Poker Odds, mainly by focusing on Pot and Card Odds. I will certainly be using conditional probability, Bayes Theorem, Factorials, Permutations, etc. I will basically give an invented scenario and, from there, I will find the probabilities of having a certain hand and of winning based on the opponent calling or betting. I will also use probability to determine if the odds of the hand are profitable to continue playing. So, what do you guys thin
  4. I was talking to some of my friends and I told them that my EE was of probability. To be more precise it is of probability on a casino game named craps. My idea was to make an analysis on how the casino always has more chances of winning than the player. My concern is that they told me that this topic is not going to get me a good grade. What do you think?
  5. Hello! Recently, I have come up with calculating the volume and surface area of wine glasses for my Math IA (I am in Maths SL). I am just wondering whether if this idea is suitable for Maths SL and whether if it shows personal engagement. Since this idea would involved relatively more heavy calculus as I am at SL level, would it show personal engagement because I am attempting to learn something more challenging and outside the scope of the syllabus? In my opinion, it is not exactly unique or crazy creative compared to the sample IA's I see, for example graphing cosmetic contact lens patterns.
  6. Hey, I am planning on doing my Extended Essay in Math. After doing some revision on my previous choice of topic I came up with a new topic: The geometry of GPS navigation My research question would be: What is the role of mathematics and geometry in particular in GPS navigation? Would that research question be specific enough? Or do you have any ideas for improvement or refining it? My approach would roughly be looking at triangulation, explaining with diagrams how it works and what role it play in GPS navigation. Then I would look at trilateration and how this helps Would including how speed

    MATH IA HELP

Hey guys. I’m doing my investigation on the correlation between football clubs’ transfer spend and their results. I’ve collected a significant amount of data but I think that my work is too basic and would want to incorporate some complex mathematical equations. Please help. Thank you MATH AI, SL student here, btw
  8. Hello everyone! As a part of my math ia, I am analysing the pharmacokinetic profile of a drug. A part of the pharmacokinetic profile involves finding the area under the curve of the medication's concentration - time graph. I think this area is meant to represent the total exposure of the drug to the paitent's body. This is what it says online as well. In other words, it would be the total amount of drug absorbed by the body. However, I'm not quite sure how this works, as the units used for the y axis (miligrams of the drug in each litre of drug - mg/L) are completely different from the x
  9. My teacher has this same question about the marking of Math paper 1 and 2 with correct significant figures. In the marking scheme, it saids "If the level of accuracy is specified in the question, a mark will be allocated for giving the final answer to the required accuracy. When this is not specified in the question, all numerical answers should be given exactly or correctly to three significant figures." Does this mean that I get full credit if I write 1.45378 while the answer key is 1.45(3 Sig), (1.4537893838...) ? Please help.

    EE in math?

Would it be smart to write my extended essay in math. I haven't started the ib yet but I was told to just have an idea. I'm gonna do math aa sl and want to write about the probability of a specific event happening. Would that be smart
  11. Hi! I’m looking to find the probability of Lewis Hamilton becoming an 8 time world champion this year. However, I am unsure of how to do this, apart from using chi squared, Pearson coefficient and a best fit line and I wanted to know if anyone could give me some pointers on how to go about calculating this probability.
  12. Hey guys, I am doing my IA on this topic: Correlation between GDP and Life Expectancy of a country Any suggestions? Regards, Kenneth
  13. Hey everyone! the title already suggests quite well what my question is. I am planning to start the IBDP next year. So basically, I participate in several math competitions. I spend a lot of time preparing and I get decent results on a national level as well. So it would be quite a pity if that wouldn't count... Yes, I know, I'm going to ask my CAS coordinator, but maybe there is somebody here who has similar experience or advice. Do I really have to look for "classical ones" like tutoring/creating a blog? Thanks in advance, if you help me!
  14. I've chosen to do my Math EE on non-Euclidean geometry, but I'm struggling to be focused on my research, especially because I'm not sure if some of the topics within non-Euclidean geometry are too difficult for a high school student. At this point, I'm willing to change my whole topic and maybe just focus on an interesting IMO puzzle. Are there any suggestions for research topics?
  15. CAN ANYONE GUIDE ME UPON THE USE OF DATA IN MONTE CARLO SIMULATION, AND IS THIS A GOOD TOPIC OVERALL PLEASE..I NEED FEEDBACKS
  16. Hi everyone, For my IA I am looking at the philosophy of the tragedy of the commons and studying it through statistics. That sounds a little complicated, but the survey is very easy to answer & only 4 problems. I would really appreciate if you took it! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WX3FTCZ

Stuck on your Math IA? This is a list of potential topics for your Math IA, approved by my IB Math teacher.
  18. I chose bootstrapping in stats as my research topic and I've already done a bunch of research. Bootstrapping requires computer software to run, and so I'd been planning to use Python and some libraries to create a confidence interval. But when I checked the IB EE guide (https://www.shaker.org/downloads/ibextendedessayguide2018.pdf), I saw "Computer programs may only be included (in particular circumstances) in computer science and physics essays." I'm not sure what to do. My topic is quite clearly math, and I'm not sure I can switch it. Are there any exceptions to this rule about computer pro
  19. Hi all! I am a 11th grader and a Math HL student. I have chosen to model traffic flow using cellular automaton as the topic of my Math EE. However I am not sure how deep can I go and whether my topic is advanced enough to become an EE topic (my school's Math group teachers allowed me to do this topic, but I would like more opinions), because I still have a lot of things to learn about it. What's more, I have looked through some related essays, but I did not find many proves of mathematical theories. Most of them contain mainly words and graphs of cellular automaton, so I am not sure wheth

    Math IA Topic

I’d like to do my Math IA on some ring music related, but I’m not exactly sure on what specifically. I’d like it to be relating to harmony or pitch but really anything involving music would be good. Could someone help me get some ideas?
  21. Hey everyone! I've created this topic to discuss about tutoring in IB. I am currently nearing the end of the IB programme (year 12). Through the course, I have come to realise that three of my best subject areas (ranked from most) include: 1. Economics HL 2. Math Analysis and Approaches HL (Since the M21 batch will be the first trying out this new change to syllabus, I might cater to your needs the best if you're a M22 or later candidate. I could also let you know how the final exams would be like once I take it next year if you'd like ) 3. Chemistry SL
  22. Hi everyone. I'm having a little trouble with my Math IA., I would like to do the topic "The Mathematics behind Medical Testing", where I would speak about false positives / false negatives and the probability of getting them. However, I don't know where to get data from. Am I supposed to make up a hypothetical situation / disease and then make fake numbers for it ? Is that even allowed..? I would be using conditional probability to find the probability of a student testing positive for the XYZ disease, actually having the disease. I would be using the conditional probability
  23. Hi guys! I am currently working on my Math IA and I am really struggle to find a good topic (I am in Math SL Y2) I think I will mainly focus on population curves in different countries (birth rate and death rate), whether it is more like of a quadratic, cubic or exponential curve, and I asked my teacher and he suggested to use integration and differentiation equations for this topic. However, I am not really sure in which direction can I go with this topic, like what I am proving or what conclusion I try to reach, and how do I apply the concepts or equations of integration and differentia
  24. Hello everyone😄 I decided to write math ia about BMI of women in different countries(especially countries which have really different kind of diets). Do you guys think it is appropriate for math HL ia? Also, I do not know which formula I should utilize to analyse topic... Pleaseeee help me😂 Thank you.
  25. Hi, For my mathematics Extended Essay I am considering and conducting research on the following topic: Comparing the efficiency of classical and quantum algorithms in the factorization of semiprimes I came about this after doing some reading on RSA factorization and discovering the importance of primes and semiprimes, and was curious how advances in quantum computing posed such a large threat to cybersecurity. My EE supervisor (whom although I think is very proficient in mathematics doesn't seem to be well acquainted with this topic) approved my topic first time and found it suitable. Ho
