Hey everyone! the title already suggests quite well what my question is. I am planning to start the IBDP next year. So basically, I participate in several math competitions. I spend a lot of time preparing and I get decent results on a national level as well. So it would be quite a pity if that wouldn't count... Yes, I know, I'm going to ask my CAS coordinator, but maybe there is somebody here who has similar experience or advice. Do I really have to look for "classical ones" like tutoring/creating a blog? Thanks in advance, if you help me!

I've chosen to do my Math EE on non-Euclidean geometry, but I'm struggling to be focused on my research, especially because I'm not sure if some of the topics within non-Euclidean geometry are too difficult for a high school student. At this point, I'm willing to change my whole topic and maybe just focus on an interesting IMO puzzle. Are there any suggestions for research topics?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on whether this topic is appropriate for a Math Exploration in HL. I am planning on analyzing Poker Odds, mainly by focusing on Pot and Card Odds. I will certainly be using conditional probability, Bayes Theorem, Factorials, Permutations, etc. I will basically give an invented scenario and, from there, I will find the probabilities of having a certain hand and of winning based on the opponent calling or betting. I will also use probability to determine if the odds of the hand are profitable to continue playing. So, what do you guys thin

Hi everyone, For my IA I am looking at the philosophy of the tragedy of the commons and studying it through statistics. That sounds a little complicated, but the survey is very easy to answer & only 4 problems. I would really appreciate if you took it! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WX3FTCZ

I was talking to some of my friends and I told them that my EE was of probability. To be more precise it is of probability on a casino game named craps. My idea was to make an analysis on how the casino always has more chances of winning than the player. My concern is that they told me that this topic is not going to get me a good grade. What do you think?

I chose bootstrapping in stats as my research topic and I've already done a bunch of research. Bootstrapping requires computer software to run, and so I'd been planning to use Python and some libraries to create a confidence interval. But when I checked the IB EE guide (https://www.shaker.org/downloads/ibextendedessayguide2018.pdf), I saw "Computer programs may only be included (in particular circumstances) in computer science and physics essays." I'm not sure what to do. My topic is quite clearly math, and I'm not sure I can switch it. Are there any exceptions to this rule about computer pro

Hi all! I am a 11th grader and a Math HL student. I have chosen to model traffic flow using cellular automaton as the topic of my Math EE. However I am not sure how deep can I go and whether my topic is advanced enough to become an EE topic (my school's Math group teachers allowed me to do this topic, but I would like more opinions), because I still have a lot of things to learn about it. What's more, I have looked through some related essays, but I did not find many proves of mathematical theories. Most of them contain mainly words and graphs of cellular automaton, so I am not sure wheth

Hey everyone! I've created this topic to discuss about tutoring in IB. I am currently nearing the end of the IB programme (year 12). Through the course, I have come to realise that three of my best subject areas (ranked from most) include: 1. Economics HL 2. Math Analysis and Approaches HL (Since the M21 batch will be the first trying out this new change to syllabus, I might cater to your needs the best if you're a M22 or later candidate. I could also let you know how the final exams would be like once I take it next year if you'd like ) 3. Chemistry SL

Hi everyone. I'm having a little trouble with my Math IA., I would like to do the topic "The Mathematics behind Medical Testing", where I would speak about false positives / false negatives and the probability of getting them. However, I don't know where to get data from. Am I supposed to make up a hypothetical situation / disease and then make fake numbers for it ? Is that even allowed..? I would be using conditional probability to find the probability of a student testing positive for the XYZ disease, actually having the disease. I would be using the conditional probability

Hi guys! I am currently working on my Math IA and I am really struggle to find a good topic (I am in Math SL Y2) I think I will mainly focus on population curves in different countries (birth rate and death rate), whether it is more like of a quadratic, cubic or exponential curve, and I asked my teacher and he suggested to use integration and differentiation equations for this topic. However, I am not really sure in which direction can I go with this topic, like what I am proving or what conclusion I try to reach, and how do I apply the concepts or equations of integration and differentia

Hello everyone😄 I decided to write math ia about BMI of women in different countries(especially countries which have really different kind of diets). Do you guys think it is appropriate for math HL ia? Also, I do not know which formula I should utilize to analyse topic... Pleaseeee help me😂 Thank you.

Hi, For my mathematics Extended Essay I am considering and conducting research on the following topic: Comparing the efficiency of classical and quantum algorithms in the factorization of semiprimes I came about this after doing some reading on RSA factorization and discovering the importance of primes and semiprimes, and was curious how advances in quantum computing posed such a large threat to cybersecurity. My EE supervisor (whom although I think is very proficient in mathematics doesn't seem to be well acquainted with this topic) approved my topic first time and found it suitable. Ho

I was doing math EE about finding the least amount of moves in a Tower of Hanoi game with N amount of disks and P amount pegs. Then, I found out that mathematical formulas are not enough and coding is needed to find the answer. Right now, my work contains a little bit more coding than math but I was able to get an answer to the question so I am thinking about adapting it to comp sci by doing something such as writing a program to tell which disk to move, step by step to complete the game etc. However, I've looked up examples of comp sci EE and my topic is very different from them as my topic w

I'm starting the IBDP next school year and I just submitted my final courses for IB. I chose HL - psych, bio and french b, and SL - math aa, english and chem. Initially when I picked these courses, I was planning on doing Zoology in uni, but now I'm a bit more hesitant on doing Zoology. What major/degree can I get in uni with these IB courses? And what do you think of these courses? (aka what are the stress levels like for these classes). Thank you very much!

Hi! I'm currently thinking of a good topic for my Math Exploration, and I decided to take "The Handshake Problem" as my topic. However, I do not know exactly how to outline/start my IA. Like, i was thinking of applying the "N choose R" in it because we actually discussed that in class. But, I don't know how to make my IA even more sophisticated from then on. I was also thinking of applying this in a more practical sense, like "how many handshakes in a certain country," but isn't that too simple because i will simply just use the formula? Or, how should I explore the exponential growth (cu

Hello! So I will be attending UWC next year and I want to do a physics major in university in the US or UK. I have already completed 2 years out of 3 years of high school so I already have good kbowledge in math, physics, chemistry, biology, technology, history, geography, french, arabic, english. I am pretty good in scientific subjects so here is my list of potential ib subjects next year: Math HL (further studies) Physics HL English A Environmenal and Social Studies SL (as a social science) French B Computer Science SL Does this list make me
