Hi my name's Yena and I am looking for pen pals. Basically, you email people in IB in another country on a weekly basis and you get 26 Creativity hours for it (assuming you will start now and continue for 2 years, 15 min a week) It's a really easy way to get CAS hours! Please reply if interested!

Does having a job count for CAS hours? And is it a good idea to work during the school year?

Hello everyone! I have been offered a part-time position at a library, with about 8-10 hours a week. I would absolutely love to work there and it is a good way to earn some money on the side. Also, I think it would be good experience for me as I have not had a paid job before. The problem is that I am very involved with other extra-curricular activities and as I am in my first year of the IB Diploma Program , I want to be able to focus on my studies and get high marks. Since I can't do it all, either the job goes or some extra-curricular activities. Therefore, I am thinking of declining the job offer unless it can count for CAS hours or if it is beneficial for m…

As the topic states, what format did you guys use to put all of your CAS-related stuff together? Scrapbooks, binders, what? My school's CAS advisor hasn't said anything about it, and our study hall teacher (who's plugged into everything from CAS to classes and coordinates the EE) just said something about scrapbooks, but admitted that she didn't know 100%. I currently have everything in a binder with a nice coverslip in the viewing sleeve on the front with the IB logo; Creativity, Action, and Service; and my name. As for the second part of my question, I just wanted to know if teaching myself C++ and Python computer languages and taking screenshots and printing my results…

Hey, I have arranged to complete 6 weeks unpaid work in a children's nursery to contribute to my CAS and also my personal statement (as Developmental Psychology) but was unsure whether it would be valid as Creativity hours? It seems to fit into Service better, but I was wondering, as I'm in more need of Creativity hours, can it technically be considered this as I will be doing creative things e.g. painting/playing games with the children? My friend has told me someone she knows did a similar thing and was allowed to use it for creative hours...So what do you guys think? Shall I just put it towards creativity or would it be better to double check with my coordinator? Thank…

If so, which one would it be: creativity, action or service? I was thinking that I could go to an elderly center and use my acquired skills to play chess with the elderly. So, maybe it could count as creativity and service? I can only play checkers so I would definitely be learning something new... Would a friend be able to teach me in order for me to have a supervisor? Could it be a cousin (about 21 years old)?

Hey guys I'm starting my CAS hours this summer and I was thinking to add paintball into my list of activities that I am going to do. Has anyone included that in their activities? If so which hours do they categorise as? I've already be regularly playing paintball (have a team) so that might not count as creativity but what about introducing paintball to my school? Would that count?

Hello, I'm currently searching for creativity ideas, as these are the ones I'm really lacking in. I write and make images on gimp, but haven't figured out what to do with these. Any ideas? Also, can self-teaching oneself a language count for creative?

My friend and I want to make kind of like a glossary of terms for the incoming juniors or even the incoming freshman I.B. kids. We know when we ramble off to our parents talking about IOP's, IOC's, EE, CAS, IA, EA, TOK, etc, our parents get really confused!! They even get confused and ask my questions during IB parent meetings! So basically we want to make a list of the terms and explain them so that the parents (and students!) can understand everything that's going on with the program. Will this be able to count for Service hours? Or action/ creativity?

So I heard that learning a language(that's not your IB language) can count for CAS hours. If that's true, for which category does it count under and would it still count if it's an online course?

I just started IB and this whole CAS thing is such a bother for me since I am so lazy to do all of it so how do you become motivated to actually go out and earn those hours? I think I must have around 60 hours so far but there is so much more to go.

Hello! When I sent in my half-year CAS report to our CAS coordinator, he replied by saying that there is no longer a need to count the amount of hours in which you do CAS activities; the main point is to make goals and reach those goals by the end of the semester. Is this true? I know I should trust my CAS coordinator, but I don't want to stop counting the hours and then suddenly realize that he misunderstood something about the criteria. Thanks for any help given.

So, I'm starting the IBP in August and a few of my friends wanted to do some CAS activities together. But, I've read that doing CAS in a group isn't the best idea. Do you think there's a way I can work it out so everyone is happy in the end or should the hours be done completely independent?

Hey I just wanted to know for CAS, do you need to have a variety of different activities or can you have 50hrs of the same thing? Also, do you need 10hrs of a collaboration of 2? eg 10hrs of creativity+service together? thanks!

Hi, I will be sitting the may 2013 exams and have almost completed CAS. However, I have been told that my CAS has been inconsistent, meaning that despite completing more than 50 hours in each of the three categories, I had a four month gap in my second academic year, without any CAS done. I approached my supervisor and she said that it could be risky, and that my diploma may be cancelled since my CAS is not consistent. My question is, is this true? and what can i do about it? Thanks~!

So I am an IB Junior and we have to finalize our CAS proposals soon and my coordinator is being very strict on that all of our activities must have a supervisor so my activities that I planned like starting a photography website and learning the piano by myself are now useless. Are there any ways to have those 2 things get a supervisor or do you guys have any other ideas for Creative Ideas?

My school is saying that the CAS trip they are taking us to is MANDATORY. They are taking us to a village to a theatre show or something. But I am kind of fat, don't like acting and shy. I do not want to this. Can I do something in place of it? Like I,I'll make a blog or something. I can't go for this trip. I surely can't. Also, is it true that CAS school trips can be mandatory? We are being asked to pay for it still mandatory!? Please reply. Thanks.

hello, I'm from an IB school in Istanbul, Turkey and As far as I understand we have to do one global project as one of our CAS activities. In our school last years grads did an recycling project with a school in Germany. If anyone would like to do something like this with your class you can post here. it would be a great CAS project and if we are close we could visit each others schools and help out with the project kinda like the Comenius projects (http://ec.europa.eu/...comenius_en.htm) of the UN. thanks for your consideration, .. .

Hello, I'm currently in Grade 11 (first year of IB) and was sort of having a question in CAS I was deciding to make a video based on a video game, which is counter strike: GO I have asked my teachers about making a video based on it, and they said it is possible under creativity and service. I was happy hearing about it because I can actually use my time spent on video game to CAS in sort of a way so... Anyway, the question is who should be a supervisor for making a video? i know it could be my parents, but my school recommended not to have parents as a supervisor. Any one have idea who it can be? Or anyone who have done similar activity like this knows any idea? Thanks

Throughout my two IB years, I have been (and am) dancing. But for some reason, I did not think of claiming CAS for my first year and so I have not been regularly writing reflections. Now I seemed to realise that I am short of hours and would like to claim them (they satisfy some of the criteria). How should I go about it?

Okay hi everyone! I'm new to the site and this is my first post so be nice.. My CAS coordinator suggested that i should set up a website for the IB community in our school because I'm quite good with technology and computers so I accepted. Now the problem is, I want it to look as professional as i can make it look. By that I mean it should be at least up to the standard as an amateur forum. I just wanted to ask how i could set up a page like this one, what software i need to use, any code needed? Thank you in advance!

My IB coordinator said that individual exercise doesn't count, although I've seen people saying the opposite on some forums here. I run for 30-60 minutes every day, do you think this counts? If not, I suppose I could join cross country but my school is really far from where I live so it's incredibly inconvenient for me to do extra-curriculars at school. Once every few months I play badminton with my friends but that's not nearly enough. So my questions are: 1) Does joggin everyday for 30+ minutes count? 2) If not, what can I do? Please name a few examples... 3) How exactly do we document our hours? Are there forms to fill out or is it all on our honour, meaning we don't h…

I wanted to know if any of this could be considered as CAS activities and on which fields. I heard some might, but I also heard it has been many changes on the IB policies so I wanted to be sure. - Giving classes on HTML (or any topic, may be first aid or something like that) to a group of people - Taking guitar lessons - A public show of any kind (working on this, maybe street magic or something like that) - Helping tourists - Designing websites as IB help guides I could get a supervisor in any of those, but I wanted to be sure about these counting as CAS. BTW I started IB on 2011

Hello, at my IB school there has been a few problems with previous IB classes being to slow with finishing their CAS acitvities so this year they(the school) have implemented a policy that we'll have to participate in the school choir for CAS, they say it's obligatory. I already have all my CAS activites sorted so the choir is superfluous but a person in my class spoke to our CAS cordinator who said something along the lines Is that really possible? That if we dont participate we fail CAS and IB? Thanks for reading and looking forward to anwsers! / Slavodja

Hi, Sorry for another is-it-cas?????? type thread, but I'd just like to ask for an opinion I'm planning on doing a research project - trying to 'invent' new ways of learning and teaching by experimenting, hypothesizing, and googling. This fulfils the "Creativity" and "Service" (<- after it's done) aspects, and meets 5/8 learning outcomes - though I've not been able to find any prior attempts at a CAS research project, and I don't want to look like an idiot if my CAS coordinator thinks it's a blatent reject - haha. Thank you! Any responses greatly appreciated

Hello all! I'm Dani, an IB student studying at Colonel Gray High School in PEI, Canada. I've recently had an idea pop into my head that, if successful, I think could be really neat. I'm sure you guys have all seen collab channels on youtube where a different person does a video each day, and each week has a different topic of discussion. Well, I think it would be cool if we could get 5 or 7 (depending on whether people would want to give up their weekend) people from different parts of the world and create a collab channel that would focus on the different worldly perspectives. Basically, we'd just pick a topic each week, like pop culture, relationships, literature, what …

Hi guys I just found these forums and it's great to know there's an IB forum out there! I started my first year of IB just one week ago, and I have some CAS questions. 1. I don't have many CAS ideas, can I find some here on the CAS board? 2. I heard about faking CAS hours, is that possible? (I will not do it unless I will eventually really have to) 3. We were given some kind of ManageBac account. Will I have to submit all the activities I did on there? 4. Is there a minimum or maximum amount of different CAS activities I must have? 5. Will donating blood, for example, or running in the park count for service and activity? Who would be the supervisor? Thank you.

ok i'm freaking out. i'm just about to enter senior year. so i asked my school's CAS Supervisor earlier this year about how the long-term project has to continue for 18 months. she said that it meant it had to have the potential to be sustainable for 18 months, not that you have to do it for exactly 18 months so I've based my project on that, starting a cleaning/environmental campaign overseas in the summer and preparing for it throughout the schoolyear. it's only going to last for about 9 months. and the work isn't on a regular basis. am I screwed?
