  1. I'm so nervous!!!!!!!! I think I did pretty well on my exams, I'm just hoping the grade boundaries aren't really high because the exams were easy. But just in case my marks are lower than I expected, I've kind of come to accept that if I didn't do well on a particular exam, it's not the end of the world. Your IB score is just a number and doesn't determine your self-worth.
  2. I would suggest you go for an experiment-based essay, since these generally tend to do much better than surveys. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong (I'm too lazy to look up the rubric right now...) but I think there's a requirement that Biology essays have an experimental aspect to them? I do know for a fact however that theoretical science essays tend to score low, mostly Ds.

  4. I would try your best to replicate the experiment. Most theoretical science essays receive Ds because (I believe) it's part of the rubric requirements to have data and procedures (i.e. an experiment) in your essay. It's just much safer to have an experiment and you probably don't want to risk getting a D on this essay if you can help it. Is there time to change to mouthwash?   6. I read 1984, The Great Gatsby and Things Fall Apart this past year in English A HL. It took me a while to get into both GG and 1984, but once I did the pages seemed to fly by.   7. Unfortunately, you seem to have a lot of Ivy League schools on there such as Cornell and University of Pennsylvania. You'd need to be almost first in your class, so your current class rank (20%) is much too low. You'd need to have many more extracurriculars than you have and Ivy League schools usually only take GPAs of 3.8 at the absolute lowest (and your test scores need to be amazing to pull this off!). It might be slightly difficult to fit into the word limit though with that extra section added onto the question (how did this union (with Soviets) affect Duklian offensive).   12. I would advise you not to try to get ahead on the reading. If you choose to read ahead during the summer, you'll have to reread it again in school to refresh your memory because you won't remember all of the small details of 5 or 6 books over the next few months when you're actually doing them in class. My advice to you is to just read them when the time comes– it's less fun when you have to read a book again that you know you didn't enjoy the first time.
  13. Achieving 6s and 7s isn't hard at all if you put your mind to it and don't slack off. For English HL just read the texts and make sure you know literary devices– this will help you greatly for paper 2! For paper 1, you can't really revise for it, but go through random poems/prose selections and analyse those for practise. French SL is incredibly easy (at least it was for me), all I did was make sure I knew all of the verb tenses and more complicated phrasings, such as si clauses.   14. It doesn't really matter how many subjects you have, as the different kinds of Biology projects vary so much that some of them are difficult to find a lot of subjects for. However, you don't want to have only 5 subjects; everyone knows that by increasing the sample size, you decrease the variability, so I would go for at least 20 or 25, but 50 would be even better. The IB doesn't mention anything about sample size but it expects you to have a large enough sample to have little variability.

For example, if your thesis were that children of interfaith marriages were more globally aware than children of monofaith, then your counterclaim would be that children of monofaith are more globally aware than children of dual faiths and your rebuttal should be the direct opposite of that and support or restate your thesis and explain why your thesis/rebuttal's argument is stronger than the counterclaim's argument.
