If you are determined via IBO audit to have insufficient CAS, despite your school passing you for it, does the IBO automatically fail you, or do they give you an opportunity to make it up? I've heard rumours of them giving you 6 months to convince them you've satisfied the requirements, but nothing solid.

I thought I had everything I needed in the way of CAS, however my Coordinator told me I need to add a small project (10 hours) to my creative aspect. What can I do?

Is there a limit of hours you can have per month? We did a CAS project for 5 days and I said I'll write 40 hours for it. My classmate argued that I can have maximum 40 hours per month. Is this true?

My IB coordinator told me that I could have a family member sign my as supervisors of some of my activities, but I keep reading on these forums that it's not allowed. So I'm confused. I have other supervisors for my activities, but it's more convenient for my parents to just sign them because I have lost touch with my other supervisors and I'd have to track them down somehow. Originally when doing the activities I was not planning on staying in IB so I never bothered with all the forms. =.= These activities have other proof (official forms, photographs, etc) in case IB ever asks, but I don't want to get in trouble for having my parents sign. Any thoughts?

What EXACTLY does the IB want for CAS? Do they expect a reflection only? But you can add stuff like pictures and signatures to support your activity so it doesn't look fake? Or are pictures a definite requirement? Please expand on anything or give me more detail. Thanks.

Okay so there's this website I know called bitstrips and since in this website, you make comics (creativity) and make them for free and then share it with the world, I was wondering if this could be considered as CAS? I mean I gave a second thought to this as it is sort of like a social network and next thing you know, facebook wouldd be considered as CAS :/ just to let you know, this is the website http://www.bitstrips.com/

Hey guys, Just wondering how many hours everyone spent on their long term project. Everything else seems to be coming along fine except my long term project hours. I've even done consistent reflections for everything else except that. That doesn't go to say I haven't done any. The reflections are just not very consistent.

Our school uses ManageBac, which is a system that allows us to record our CAS hours + write our reflections. Once we submit info about the activity, our supervisor is supposed to approve it and then we can write the reflection. However, my supervisor added my activities and so I don't have reflections for some of my activities. When I asked him he said it was alright, but I'm still worried. Right now I cannot add reflections on ManageBac because the activities are locked, but is there another method by which I can still write reflections and submit them to IB?

Hello all, I'm fairly new to IB Survival, and I'm entering my senior year and my last year of the DP. I've decided to make my CAS hours themed around mostly health and fitness--things that I feel are important in today's world. That being said, I've been thinking about some options for the Action category. There are a lot of things I want to do, but finding supervisors is an issue. I went on to beachbody.com and was researching some programs that are at-home workouts, but when you purchase them you are assigned a "coach": a person who keeps you on track and guides you through the duration of the respective program. If I could get legitimate contact information (safely, of…

Hi guys, I'm currently finishing my first year of IB and I seriously have no CAS hours... I checked the CAS requirements and I'm freaking out because it said: "Students are expected to be involved in CAS activities for the equivalent of at least three hours each week during the two years of the programme." Can someone give me advice on what the heck I should do?! Can I still obtain my diploma even though I didn't do anything for most of my first IB year?

I heard that it was, but I'm just wondering. I've been an officer for the International Thespian Society (it's an internationally recognised honours theatre society) and so I've been planning, hosting, and promoting many different events and we have meetings 2-3 times a week. Would this count as service? I obviously don't make money from it.

So I live in the Netherlands but I don't speak Dutch. There aren't any sports clubs at my school and all the Dutch ones are, well, in Dutch. What can I do for my action hours then? Does MUN count for CAS points, and if so for Creativity, Action or Service? What else could I do for action?

I'm about to join an association dedicated to the protection of animals, their action range is very thorough, since they dedicate to denounce animal abuse by taking legal actions, they have an asylum themselves for abandoned cats where they take care of them by feeding and sterilizing them, as well as looking for families to adopt them, they hold talks in schools about animal care, and many stuff more. Do you think this may account for cas, since it's related to animals rather than to people? I found it really difficult to serve to people because I'm some kind of "misanthropist" I cannot stand being with abandoned children, or older people. I just can't. Thank you all.

So, our final CAS deadline is comming up fairly quickly and our IB cordinator keeps reminding us about our final CAS reflections that we have to write. I have a rough idea of what I want to do for mine but I would love to have some sort of example or outline or something to follow... I'm a little unsure if we are to reflect on each individual CAS project, or our CAS experiance as a whole. I can't find any examples of final reflection online so I was wondering if this is something specific to our school or if everyone writes them? assumin geveryone does have to do reflections, are there specific guidelines that IB will check or do we just have to meet the 8 criteria and ca…

Hi guys, I have a slight problem with my CAS, I did all the hours and stayed on track with posting all my reflections on ManageBac but I'm facing one problem, I need to hand in my evaluation or reflection essay for my activities before next week and I never did it before Our CAS coordinator gave us a sheet that may help us in writing the evaluations but honestly it was so vague. So can someone please show me an example of a CAS reflection essay?

I thought I should create a thread about this since there seems to be a variety of things different schools allow students to do for CAS. Are there any things that you are NOT allowed to count as CAS in your school? Do you know something that another school has allowed or not allowed and etc? For instance, me and a group of friends needed creativity and thought of starting the yearbook for IB Alumni 08 but our CAS coordinator refused to accept it and said that 'we would do it anyway' which is not true and then he says that the IBO won't let it. However, I have heard that there is another school in Finland in which people can work on the yearbook for creativity which I th…

Living in An Arab country, there is very little attention paid to animals in the street. They don't have proper care and funds to build a shelter. I thought I could raise money and awareness through promoting a walk!!!! I need to find sponsors to support us by giving us enough funds to produce tshirts for the walk!! Any ideas how to encourage a society with little care of animals to support this cause?? Any ideas how to attract sponsors to help us? And what type of sponsors?

Hello all, thought I'd like to start this thread for other people also and clear things up. So it's finally time for me to start doing my CAS forms and stuff 10 days before everything needs to be done. I have enough activities that fill in the hours and the results criteria. I'm wondering though, what are the types of evidence we can use aside from photos? FYI my school's using ManageBac. That may change things.

How is CAS 'marked' in the end?
by Guest Another IB Victim- 4 replies

Over the period of time that I've been on the IB, I've heard a million different opinions on CAS and its completion. Some have said "F it, CAS is bull----, they'll just sign it off" and others (mainly teachers) stress it's importance. Now I'll be honest and say I've barely done anything. Well, I've done a decent amount. I don't know how things work but my teacher has spoken of sending 'it' all off to Geneva where it's checked and they decide whether you pass or not. I've also heard that its the CAS co-ordinator that signs the final thing. How on earth is CAS "marked?"

to what extend is an activity considered to be out of one's comfort zone? It is been my concern as my teacher told me so. Does it mean that we need to go to another country which is poor to do our cas? Or one of our activities should include one like that? she also said that only 20% of our cas activities should be in-school, is it true? coz i thought that we can raise some of our cas activities under the school's supervision.

Also, I;m not a very good artist or painter, so i bought a paint by number where you paint a certain color inside the lines...I still thought it was hard and challenging and it took me somewhere around 16-20 collective hours to complete..does this count also? Thanks(:

Hi all, I'm starting IB this year, and was told in the spring of last year that I would have to do a CAS Project. The thing is, we were told we're not allowed to work with another organization. Are we expected to actually create our own charity from scratch? That's not a huge problem, I'm just kind of confused. Thanks!

Looking at the CAS learner outcomes, it would appear that the one most tied to service is 'engaging with a global issue'. If that were interpreted as the service criteria, would it not be possible for one to claim writing on a blog raising awareness of social and economic issues as service? I ask as, though I've done a week of 24/7 volunteer work as a camp supervisor on a sponsor camp for disadvantaged children, and have a Service project coming up later in the year - thus I'm well over 50 hours for service - as my CAS co-ordinator states, I need a 'regular' and 'consistent' service activity; and this certainly seems preferable if it qualifies.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that though creativity in CAS usally refers to artistic activities and action generally means physical exertion, they can be more loosely interpreted to fit different kinds of people. As in, the creativity aspect could include creativity in designing and organizing different projects in, and action could include taking charge/leadership in projects and decision making and blah blah blah. I was wondering if there was any merit to that at all, because as it stands right now my CAS has little to no action, and I need to know the parameters of what I can do to remedy that. Thanks!
