Hi! I was browsing through the forums and was inspired by @ouribjourney's post of creating a worldwide CAS project. I'm interested in doing something similar where I can make a website to hit the learner outcome of Engaging with issues of global importance to enhance gender equality. In the website, I'm aiming to incorporate news articles, statistics & photographs to show gender inequality & suggestions on overcoming it. To make it worldwide, I was hoping that people from different parts of the world can share their experiences regarding gender inequality and how they think it can be reduced where they live. I live in Tanzania (East Africa) where some …

Hiiiii IB'ers! I was wondering if there would be something, like an activity, that would help me in my later studies in medicine, and that would be counted as CAS. (When I say for my later studies, I mean something the university might appreciate)

I already know what I'm doing for each category. For Creativity, I'm taking an art class, for Action, I'm going to the gym on a weekly basis and for Service, I'm in this volunteer club and I volunteer for other things whenever I can. The problem is that one of my activities has to involve two of the three CAS categories. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi there, I have just submitted one of my CAS activities to managebac (love of my life ), which is refereeing U14 girls football games and after doing this my CAS co-ordinator edited and said that I should possibly talk about ethical implications but I have no idea what to do for this particular activity and your help would be greatly appreciated Kind regards, Jack Beard

Hey, I was wondering if translating educational videos from english to some other language would count as a CAS Project? If for example I set a goal that in the next 4 months I will be translating videos and I will reach a total of 20 hours of translated videos, can I list that as a CAS project?

Hey! I am currently in Sweden as an exchange student and since I am not attending an IB school during my stay here, I will have loads of time to get some CAS done. The problem is that I don't have any ideas for the service part (I am not fluent in Swedish yet, so it's rather hard to find something to do). Do you guys have any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, so my school is not the best funded school there is in the county. Many things are under funded in our school, such as bathroom supplies. But probably one of the most under funded things in our school is the drama / theatre department. Today, our competition troupe had competition, and every single other schools had better props and costumes. It has gotten to the point where in the middle of our first performance in the beginning of the school year, our theatre light had gone out and we had to do it in our back up lights, which are what we use to do project. Well, sorry for my little rant but i just need to vent. The real purpose of this post is to ask if helping out…

So a friend and I decided to start our own business doing landscaping and property maintenance for the summer. What started out as a little side job quickly became a major success that allowed us not only to acquire great experiences, but also a considerable income (well into the 5 digits). The thing is that although I do know that regular jobs don't usually count for CAS since you are getting paid, I wonder what is IB's position regarding entrepreneurial experiences such as mine. It not only allowed me to be active and creative all summer long, but it also corresponds to nearly all of the cas outcomes and allowed me to learn many essential life skills and lessons. A…

So Filmeurs. is out in the world! Filmeurs. is a website I made for young debuting filmeurs (aka amateur film actors, directors, composers, filmmaking lovers) like me to share their experiences with film. If you've made a film, this site allows you to post it online and talk about it to the filmeur community! If you think you're a filmeur (or filmeuse), go have a look at Filmeurs. ! I would be super happy if you shared this: even if you're not a fimeurs, one of your friends might be. http://filmeurs.weebly.com/ If you know about film/film music/film apps, writing an article for Filmeurs. can earn you CAS points! (You can totally do it even if you're just passionate about…

Hi everybody The CAS coordinator at my school is quiet vague to say the least and ironically enough, not much help when it comes to CAS. I come here in search of advice. I'm in a dire need of a creativity project. I've always wanted to learn Photoshop and use it as a medium for some of my ideas and I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity, but I don't know how to go about making it into CAS. You know guys, the values, attitude, benefit to others... One thing that I've learned is that it's not about creativity itself, but about justifying it as the CAS idea of "creativity". It would be great if you guys had some tips or sharing your methods of going abo…

I am wondering if is it is required to initiate a CAS before I graduate? If I don't do it then does that mean I can't have the diploma certificate & can't graduate? Does initiate a CAS have to be creativity and action and service? For example can it be only creativity? Or only creativity and service? I am so confused, please help. I'd be very appreciate. Thank you so much

I currently have a CAS project, and I'm interested in starting a second one because I love volunteering and doing service. Is it possible for IB? Or would one project have to count as normal hours? Also, is it possible to add two CAS projects onto Managebac?

I'm president of the Art Club this year, would running the club count as my CAS project? I think the Art Club only involves creativity, and I heard IB wants at least two of either Creativity, Action, or Service? Is there something I need to include into Art Club to make it a worthy CAS project?

Science International CAS Project
by Guest- 2 replies

Hey you guys! So, I am an IB student (well, duh) who is very much interested in science. I hate the fact that most people think science as a geeky subject and that it has no real life applications. They believe that it is of no use in their future. This bugs me a lot. Because, if you look past the crazy equations, calculus, formulas etc., you'd see that it is super simple and that it has so many fascinating lessons it has to offer. So, what I thought of was to teach science without math or anything that would freak the normal person out. I don't wanna make videos. Just take a normal science concept and put it in a way that people would love it, understand it, and learn an…

Blogging and writing as CAS

So what are your experiences of doing writing or blogging as CAS? I'm an avid writer myself and when I realized that I could do that for CAS I was overjoyed, but then I heard that some schools don't allow writing for CAS. Currently my plan would be to create a blog for writing, as well as doing my other blog (found here: http://nerdexeallthingsnerdy.blogspot.fi/) to cover most of my creativity side for CAS. Also, how would I get a CAS supervisor for this? The blog itself wouldn't be enough for the writing one at least, since writing even a relatively short story can take weeks with all the rewriting and tweaking that goes on.

Vlog for Group Project?
by Guest- 0 replies

Hey everyone! I'm planning out my CAS activities at this stage, and I'm starting on planning the group project. I wanted to make something that was a version of a vlog, but not quite. I have two other friends who wanted to do their own vlogs, so we decided to come together and do it as a group project, though we'd tie it into different things. I wanted my personal one to be regarding topics that are relevant to our society today, giving a brief synopsis, examples, and make it relevant (and not boring) to teenagers. As we're all planning on doing it together, and if I organise it so that they're tied together - we all go in each others and raise 'cultural and societal …

Hi all! I know everyone in the Northern hemisphere is just about to get back to school. So, I've been thinking about creating a documentary for CAS. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes during my spring break of DP1. I was wondering if there are any other IB diabetics out there? Anyway, basically what I would like to accomplish is to create this documentary raising awareness on and about Diabetes (both type 1 and 2). I will hopefully be interviewing people and all doing more research. But what I would like you his to contribute to is either send me a picture or video of you and your fellow friends and family saying something about diabetes or where you stand on the topic…

Hi I'm not at all an athletic person nor do I want to devote a lot of my time during 12th trying to do Action. Would for example, learning to draw different types of things by myself count as creativity? Or learning how to cook?

For cas hours, could creating a work out plan and sticking to it be considered for action? For action, it needs physical activity to help with daily life and I could say I created a plan and stuck with it to help me become physically fit. Please tell me what you think about it. P.S. on the reflection, it asks me how this benefits others so if anybody could give me ideas for that i would greatly appreciate it.

Just wondering... is there a guideline somewhere that stipulates who can/cannot sign off as having supervised a CAS activity? For example, if another teenager developed and ran a camp program that I am using for service, can that person sign for my CAS hours? (She is not in the same IB program.) Or are there rules about who can verify the hours? Thanks.

Hi, everyone! c: I am thinking of making a zine (described on Wikipedia as "small circulation self-published work"; it'll essentially be a small collection of artwork and writing) in order to accumulate creativity hours, and I'm looking for some feedback! I haven't run it by my CAS coordinator yet, however I'm fairly certain that she would be alright with my doing this. I can complete it independently or (hopefully!) in a group. I would like to know if you guys think that this would serve as an acceptable activity for creativity hours. I would also really, really appreciate ideas on what I could use as a theme for the publication. I was wondering what I could do to en…

I have posted a similar post, but it sank somewhere on this website, so I am posting another post. I BEAR GREAT NEWS! So I talked to my CAS supervisor about this idea I had, but with a little twist. It is very simple and you can do it easily and at the same time it would count as an international collaborative CAS project for you. So the idea is that each person or a group of IB students from different countries would make two short videos. The first you would shoot a video talking about a major problem in your country. Just grab your camera, find a nice background, and discuss the problem! You can also go out and take live pictures! For example, my country which is S…

Hey everyone! I've had this thought cross my mind recently. Since cyber-bullying is becoming such a big problem around the world, I've thought about gathering students from different IB world schools and share, or post information about cyber-bullying. This could be counted as a CAS activity for you since you're raising awareness for something and helping people around the world. Would anyone be willing to initiate this with me? If you have more ideas/advice, feel free to post them, I'm open for any suggestions. Also, I'll be using blogger (blogspot.com) for this, so you (sadly) will have to have a google account, if you have another idea on what else we could use for th…

Hello everyone! I'm an IB1 student and I'm currently studying in the international school of Paris. For my international cas project I was thinking about collaborating 10 other people from different international schools to share informations about a very important issue in the world: the role of the woman today and her rights. There are still many countries where there is still a discrimination against women especially in the middle East and Asia. The discrimination is anyways still present also in evolved countries, we just have to think about the world of politics and the abuses of young girls. So what I would like to do is to take 10 people from different countries (pr…

From what I have heard, there are many countries in need of a cheap irrigation system that works well. I believe we can develop one. As of now I know little in the area of irrigation, but I have taken a few physics classes. This summer I need volunteers to develop a cheap irrigation system that works well. As of now no progress has been made, and we must start from scratch. I do not know how we can get Cas hours for this. I do not even know if we can get gas hours for this, but I do know one thing. If this works, we can help all of humanity. Surely that is worth something. Success is not expected, but we must try, and give effort. If you feel you can help please reply, o…

"Does that count for CAS hours?" is probably one of the most asked questions in IB. Mine is pretty much the same. I'm an administrator on a few large FB groups (from ~2 to ~17k members), as well as a forum moderator. Would any of this possibly count for CAS hours? Or does that depend on the coordinator? Thank you in advance!
