Hello, I have started to think about subject tests, and I would like to take three. I am already certain that I will take Physics and Math II, but I would also like to do a third one. History (both US and world history) seems a bit out of the question for me, as I have never been interested or "good" in history or subjects related to history. My question is... How hard is the SAT Spanish test? Also, there is two of them, one with listening and one with only multiple choice questions, is there a big difference? Does AB Initio Spanish provide me with enough knowledge (within the first year) to nail a decent score on one of the Spanish subject tests? Does anyone here have …

Hello everyone, We have had a very heated discussion at school as to what should be the student's level of English if he wishes to start English B SL. We are just going through the accreditation process and have no experience "in the field", thus help is much appreciated:) Could you please compare the IB level to the other well-known standards? PET KET FCE CAE CPE may be to the popular courses? Headway - pre-intermediate / intermediate / upper -intermediate?? Thank you!

Hey guys, So my individual oral commentary for portuguese is coming up but I don't quite understand how it's supposed to work I have read the books and from what I understand I have to get the prescribed questions and pick a passage from the books for each questions... this would make me have 10 passages But I'm confused because I thought we could only bring 1 piece of paper A4 annotated into the room to record :/

Hello I joined this forum because the vast majority of the french ab initio class is failing or near failing the class, this has happened this last semester only. Throughout the 3 semesters we have been in the class we have had 3 different teachers which surely did not help us at all. I would like to know if anybody has the information of what we should be studying because the whole class has felt this teacher has been teaching us subjects that we feel are to advanced and the school does not have a specific rubric for this course. If somebody knows what we should be studying please tell us. Thanks

Hi everyone, I have yet another french class question! We're doing our individual interactive orals in less than a week, and I haven't even started...Why? Because I have no clue whatsoever how to do research in French on poverty and famine in Haiti. I'm looking for ways to do the research, should I search in French or in English then translate it? Keep in mind my French level is not the best and I'll be lucky with a 4 or 5 in SL French.. So do you have any tips on how to do a French research project? Thanks!!

Hi! Some days ago I was ordering my first ideas for my Written Assignment. I first planned to make a new chapter or a new ending for the book, but I'm not sure what kind of text is this because we have just worked on reviews, letters, blog, etc... So my questions are: 1-Can I write for my written assignment another chapter of the book? 2-If yes, what kind of text am I working on? (How should I specify in my rationale or wherever I write it down?) Thanks! [English B HL]

Hi everyone! In two weeks we have to do our first presentation, a 5-7 minute powerpoint based on a global issue. I'm not sure if anyone would have done this before but it is for SL French! Here's what I have to choose from... -Food & water -Drugs/alcohol -International economy -Immigrants -Globalization -Poverty & famine -Racism & discrimination -Global warming, natural catastrophes -Reserving energy -Our impact on nature I obviously do not have the best French skills and really need to choose one of these that would be easier for me to do in French. I'd most likely do the presentation in English and then translate it into French. I'd really appreciate if some…

Hey, I've just joined the forums here.... And I wanted to ask for some suggestions on preparing for the IB French exam. I'm doing it as a one year SL course because I wanted to get an extra elective for my senior year in school. My teacher just gives us work, and doesn't really teach us French, and I wanted to know if there was any way to improve myself in pronouncing and writing french? I'm currently at like level 3 when it comes to French, and I want to know what I could do to improve myself by the time I have to take the oral and then the actual exam. Thanks in advance

Hi everyone! As I'm starting my IB program in, like, two weeks, I'd like to know more about the French B HL course from those of you who are currently attending it, or who've already graduated. I've been studying French for three years, have been to Paris multiple times and if I wanted, I could easily involve myself a little more in french culture, as I have various relatives who live in France and are fluent french speakers. During the past three years, however, I have not studied french at all (in fact, I have started studying french about six years ago, studied it for three years and then stopped for three years when I got into what in Italy is called "Liceo"). Do y…

Hello all! So I am having to decide on which IB subjects I would like to take at the higher level. I have decided on Eng. HL, Bio HL and am currently debating whether I should take History HL or French HL.... See, I received good marks in both history and french last year (7 and 6 respectively), but I don't know which one I will score better on during final IB exams.... I love writing essays in history but the sheer AMOUNT of stuff to go through for history HL is intimidating to me....I've heard a lot of horror stories about how hard the history HL exam can be.... And as for French, I love learning languages (yah, I'm a dork), but I am not as fluent as I would like to be.…

Hey guys, I am currently in Grade 11, and chose to do French Ab Nitio. However, the French class in my school is that of French A level. And so, for a beginner like me (I know nothing of French), I barely get any knowledge. I then have to go home and look at videos, learn the basics. However, I have the option of taking Spanish AB Nitio online from Pamoja Education. I have no knowledge of Spanish either. And I NEED to get atleast a 5 on this group, as I am aiming for some prestigious universities. Do you think I should take the Spanish option, because I'm inclining towards it. It would be more organised and help me prepare better for my exams in 2 years. Or atleast I thin…

Hi there I have to do a 10-13 minutes speech/presentation for English B soon. It will be graded and the points will be sent to the IB, therefore they definitely count for my final IB points. The speech should either be focused on the Anglophone culture or deep personal interest and it should be followed by a discussion lead by me. I do have a few ideas for possible topics, but I just wanted to ask if anyone has got experience concerning such presentation topics. Would be nice of you to just tell me several topics you or your classmates dealt with so I know approximately how to chose a topic. Thanks

I am about to start my IB2 year, and before this I went on an exchange to Finland. Previously, I was doing my EE on philosophy, but Now I'm back I can't even understand what I wrote, let alone getting it finnished. However, I'm very enthusiastic about scandinavian culture and languages, because I did a lot of travelling around. So I believe I have enough cultural and linguistic background to start an EE from scratch, and finishing it by November, which is my deadline. The problem is that I have no idea of where to start, and then, not only do I have to write on the language, but IN the labguage that I'm studying. I want to do omething creative, and I know that scandinavia…

I'm sitting the Nov 2011 IB French Ab Initio SL and I thought I should really get started on studying for french! I lack the motivation to do it alone so I thought if I could get some people who wants a 7 in French Ab Init. like me we will be able to form like an online study group or something. We can perhaps write Paper 2 responses and mark each other, correct each others work and also learn vocabs together? I use to do a study group for english vocab building and it went really well - it was fun and very helpful!! Anybody interested? PM or reply to this post?

Hi Mandarin B fellowers~~~ I'm a current IB student doing Mandarin B HL, with my exam session in November 2013. I have to complete my language B written task on the coming Monday. However, after reading the 2013 language B guide carefully, I haven't found the conversion scale between words and characters which used to be 1:1.2, this confused me. Do we still do word count conversions if it is not stated in the guide? This seems quite important as marks will be deducted if the word count is not met/exceeded. Also the rationale is 150 words for HL, do we have a 5% above and below range for the word count or does it have to be exactly 150? This makes the conversion even mor…

Hi, I need some advice on doing a remark on one subject I had done in May 2013. I had done Arabic B SL. And I got 88% altogether, which was a six. The grade boundary was 89% for a seven. So I was 1% off. I was very shocked when I knew I got a six. Its turns out I got a 5 in my written assignment and very high in the internal assessments and exams. So should I give a remark? Could anybody help. I was wondering if those who had experience with remarks could give some advice. Need it urgent to decide

Hi there I just finished my first year of IB and I took my French B SL exam last May. My school does IB exams kind of weird from what I understand, at the end of our first year we take our second language exam to get it out of the way and everything else at the end of second. I got a six in the exam, and though I don't think this a bad grade, I didn't really work very hard or study at all and was considering retaking my exam. This isn't really because of my grade (though I do think I could do a lot better, my French is pretty strong), it's because of my horrible pride complex and I just wanna see how high I could get. What do you recommend? What do you think in general of…
