hi IB people, i'm starting ib1 in september and i'm still deciding what courses i should take. so far, i chose english HL, french SL, psychology SL, chem HL, bio HL, math HL, EE, TOK. i'm a science and math person so i'm pretty sure that i'll do well in chem, bio, and math(around 6 to 7). however, not so sure about eng/french/psy(maybe 5-6) i want to study medicine after high school in canada or in the states. i'm thinking about going to UoT, mcgill, UBC or good medical universities in california after high school. so, i have few questions that i had always wanted to ask 1) consider my situation, should i take physics sl for my third science? or should i just take r…

Contrary to popular thought, there is more than just the "left" or "right" wing when it comes to the political spectrum. A more accurate assessment of an individual's placement in these matters can be determined via a political compass. The Authoritarian top reflects upon a preference of power to the state rather than the individual, while the libertarian bottom supports the opposite. The left and right wing spectrum reflects upon opinions on how the economy should be run (e.g. capitalism or communism). http://www.politicalcompass.org/test So where are you on the political compass?

Somewhere I read that non-native English speakers are allowed to take dictionaries into the exams. Is this also the case for English A1? I am currently taking English and am struggling with texts due to a missing understanding of words, but my school didn't offer anything else :/ Obviously I wouldn't be allowed to do so in a B language Thanks!

Sorry if this seems like a really asinine question, but I've always wondered the format in which IB grades come out. For example, in AP, they just give you a number out of 5 (I personally hate this). Is your IB grade like that, or is it broken down to each respective part, like IOP/Paper 1/Paper 2 etc. so you can see every aspect of your grade? Thank you very much! I suppose I'll find out soon enough... but I'm just curious right now!

So IB1 is coming to a close for me as summer vacation approaches. I'm really disappointed in myself for not being able to score more 7's so far, as I really need to score high on my diploma since I know I need as many scholarships and financial aid as possible to help pay for my university. Are there any good ways to prepare this summer for the workload in IB2? I was thinking of making bio study guides, and I'm aiming to finish my rough draft for the EE. Any other ideas?

Hello, since the IB is over and I really don't have anything to care about right now, I wondered if the papers (IAs, TOK, EE, etc.) I did during the IB could be sold to any of these online websites that offer them to students who are interested in buying them. I mean, they should have got them from somewhere so do you know any trusted site where you can sell the papers you have written? Has anyone done it before? Is it worth it?

Sure, IB requires a lot of work, but that doesn't exactly excuse the teacher for something that they make some of us fellow students do. No, I'm not trying to belittle them, but I am wondering about why some teachers give us a little too much work.... Anyway, I'm curious- what does your teacher want you to do? like for example, in my psych sl class, our teacher gave us homework that consists of looking up and researching a study, which we are fine with since we need the study, but how can we do the homework when there's no information any where ._. the only one who could actually get anything was a classmate whose mom had records of the study from her medical books.... no…

It doesn't have to necessarily be about IB, but what/how many languages are you taking or learning? Anyone interested in E-pals? I'd be happy to be an E-pal for anyone in Spanish or German. I've been taking German for 3 years, but I am very advanced because I spent an entire summer with a tutor who taught me college level German, so if anyone would like help, I'm here, and I'd love to have an E-pal who speaks German on a regular basis. I'm also taking Spanish 1 (instead of SL Psychology), so I'm not that great yet, but I learn very fast. I also tried to teach myself French during the summer but once school started I ran out of spare time.

So with exams over my best friend and I are planning to take a 3-4 week Interrail trip throughout Europe. Planning to hit Berlin, Amsterdam and Barcelona, and whatever we find in between. Does anyone have any experiences/tips to share? Specifically accomodation, is it best to reserve rooms at hostels in advance or is it easy to find rooms with short notice? How much would we be looking to spend excluding tickets? We're planning to just sorta wing it a bit and get off randomly at places that look interesting. Hoping it will be awesome.

ok so i'm probably starting ib diploma next year. I'm a pretty above average student, in my opinion, but not the best either. I'm just more advanced than most people in my class with a 3.6 GPA unweighted taking harder classes such as Calculus ans AP Psychology as a sophomore. Sadly, my study habits aren't the best though:/ any tips?

During the few months before I started the IB course, I ran regularly around my area because I thought that I wasn't getting enough exercise. Now, I wouldn't consider myself athletic in any way, but I just thought that I wasn't getting the right balance. After I started the IB course, I've barely had time for running. But last month, during the Easter holiday, I started running again, three times a week. I usually run for an hour before dinner. It keeps me healthy and it's just great stress relief. I run alone, unsupervised, so I haven't been recording my running sessions down for CAS hours. So far my running hasn't had any significant effect on my grades, but I worry tha…

So I'm going into IB here at Gateway High School in Florida and the school has it so that we take AP Exams with the according Subject (i.e IB US History = AP US History Exam, IB English = AP Lit & Composition and AP Language & Composition). I will be taking AP Calculus since this year (10th) I'm taking IB Pre-Calc and my school won't let me test out of math next year. So I was wondering what the best AP Prep Book is better our of: Barron's, REA's Crash Course, Princeton Review, or the "5 Steps to a 5"? Thanks! Francisco O.

Hi, I just joined and since I'm feeling kind of weird/awkward I felt the need to introduce myself. My name is Coralie. I'm from Quebec and I've been getting super stressed out about everything the IB program involves and was looking for a few tips and a bit of advice from people who are as sleep-deprived and coffee-crashed as I am. Anyway, looking for a bit of information about this site is all. Hope you'll stop by to give a newbie the time of day... and perhaps a little help with understanding how this place works. Thanks! ~Cora

First time I can say I'm glad to hear somebody is dead. I don't believe in hell, but right now I wish I did, but even then it'd be more than he deserves. Hopefully this will demoralize his followers, but it's very likely we'll see a huge spike in terrorist activities in retaliation, I just hope it's the former and not the latter. On a lighter note, the world champion of hide and seek was found after almost ten years

Summer is coming, and school is gonna end soon. This means that soon many people are gonna be in their yard tanning or even taking a holiday down south somewhere for their tan. Just a few weeks ago I was doing just that, sitting by the pool in Crete on holiday tanning. When I came home I decided to google how healthy tanning is, I already knew it increased your cancer risk, but I was suprised by how much! Though at first I was pretty satisfied with my tan, now after I know the risks I feel kind of creeped out. Tanning, at least in western culture, is generally seen as a positive thing. Tan people are seen as more healthy since they appear to spend more time outdoors than …

Hello. I'm an international student taking the exams in May (in 10 days ) I've got a conditional offer from a uni that I really want to get in, and I need to obtain at least 30 points to be formally accepted. Although My predicted scores are higher than 30, I'm concerned about my final (real) IB grades. Are there any important things or strategies to get 30 points other than studying really hard? I'm taking English A1 SL Biology SL Math SL History HL Psychology HL Addition: I'm taking language A2 HL as well I've been studying but I'm not confident at all because I have "Panic disorder".

Pinocchio says: My nose grows now. For me, this is completely mind-blowing. I am quite a logical thinker, and so I get myself wrapped up in circles. Because if he is telling the truth, his nose wouldn't grow but that would in turn mean that he was lying, which means his nose would grow and so he would be telling the truth, and on and on it goes. Paradox? I think so. Go! Discuss! Mind boggle! Or do you have any other good mindblowers?

I just started IB this year and it is just not what I thought. I am seriously considering taking the IB certificates instead of diploma and I need your advices because my parents just told me...do what you feel like. Firstly, I am doing the subjects that I find no interest at because the ones I like happened to be on the same time. Then, the maths thing starts to buzz the hell out of me. I think if I continue to waste time struggling then next term I will definitely fail my maths exam. Btw, i am doing it HL. So I think that if I do certificates, I can do subejcts that I "love" and have more "energy" dealing with the workload in yr 12. Moreover, if I screw up IB, I can …

What is your favourite physical feature about yourself? (examples: hazel eyes, curly hair, four toes (I don't know). And a mental ability (talent). Mine are my really big eyes. Since I wear glasses they are minimized a bit, but without my glasses they look really big. I really like my big eyes, because when someone looks at my face, the first thing they notice are my eyes. I love my curiousity when it comes to subjects like science. I remember once learning that your dreams are made from emotions, not a story played through your head, and the result, me researching like crazy about dreams/sleep.

Do you type up your notes or do you write them out by hand? Traditionally I've always wrote my notes out by hand (but maybe this is just because I like writing). Nowadays, however, many of my friends seem to type their notes up and then print them out. Which way, in your opinion, is better? (This isn't just specific to IB btw, but to all exams.)

so... anyone here a huge fan of basketball? I basically would play basketball 24 hours a day if I could. I'm really hoping to play in college. My favorite professional team would the Utah Jazz, because I grew up going to their games. I'm kinda upset that Deron Williams is leaving to the Nets, but I'm really excited that the new assistant coach is Hornacek! And besides the Jazz I'm a Miami heat fan. As far as college ball goes, I'm a UCONN woman's team fan, but thats not where I wish to play at. I wish to play in the Ivy League or for GA Tech. so lets discuss basketball!

This is the Welcome Mat, a thread that this forum sorely needs. I have found that it is very difficult to join a forum without knowing some of the members, receiving a few tips about how it works, and just a basic "hello" to get you started on the right foot. If you're new, just post a little something that tells everyone who you are, as well as some questions you have about the site. Hopefully some kind person who's been a part of this site for a while will take a minute to tip their hat in your direction and show you a few of the ropes. I sincerely hope that the awkwardness of being new can be avoided through this thread! Peace, Love and Sugar Packets: OverEasy
