Hey to everyone, I guess that in here almost no one discusses about football (soccer, that is) but since I'm quite fanatic about football, I decided to start a new topic only about football where you can discuss and say what you want about your team (national or championship), players and UEFA, etc. It's intended to have a normal and decent discussion. It's obvious that each person supports something different but just try to have a more objective view rather than subjective. For example, I could say that C. Ronaldo is the best actual player because I don't like Messi and since I love Ronaldo... but that doesn't add anything to this debate. Thus, you should explain why …

What is the communities view on the Milgram Experiment? The Milgram Experiment is an investigation into obedience and the effect of punishment on learning. Volunteers were randomly assigned as 'Teachers' or 'Students'. The teachers aided learning by adminstering electric shocks of increasing voltage each time students, situated in another room answered a question incorrectly. The voltage levers were labelled Mild to Severe Shock (450 Volts), the teachers were instructed to progress with shocks by the experimenter with them. The disturbing findings showed that 62% of the teachers inflicted shocks to the maximum, despite their own discomfort and cries of pain coming from p…

Hi there So I've been reading about this anti-technology terrorist group called "Individuals Tending to Savagery" (ITS), and got interested in polling science-area students to answer this question. ITS's Motto: Down with the technology (principally nanotechnology) and those who practice it! Facts: Two robotic professors were severely wounded by a house-made "disguised" bomb. The brother of one of the robotic professors was sent a bomb too, but it was successfully intercepted One genetist teacher was kidnapped and killed without a "congruent" reason. All of them apparently by the same group of radicals, in the same month, in Mexico. It is said also …

So, are there any programmers/computer science fans here at IB Survival? If so, you might be interested in this class called Introduction to Artificial Intelligence. It is a free, online class available this fall and will be taught by Stanford professor Sebastian Thrun as well as Peter Norvig, director of research at Google. I personally am really excited about taking this class because it's the first computer science class available for me to take that goes beyond just basic programming. There are two tracks available, and when I signed up I picked the basic track, thinking that I wouldn't have enough time for the advanced track. Although now I'm beginning to have second…

In the media after the hype of the Harry Potter movies some have said it is promoting bad morals in our children. Such as killing etc. But as a harry potter child who loved them when i was younger and still do, I beg to differ, i think it shows the importance of family through rons family and sticking together. A;so the importance of friends. Forgiveness through fights and such. And remorse, as Harry does not purposely aim to kill volemort till the later books. It also teaches us not to judge a book by its cover so to speak through the characterisation of professor snape. all thoughts.

Well the question is pretty obvious, but here are some ideas. When will we run out of resources? Will there be WW3 first? Going deeper, if so, who will start it? What about this apocalypse we've been all hearing about? Personally, I don't think we will ever be able to work together, unless its an alien invasion

Hey everyone! So, I think we've all been through the desert island drill before, but just in case: What are the three reasonable and carriable (not sure if that's a word, but you know what I mean : D) items you'd bring with you, if you had to spend eternity alone on a desert island? Also, just for fun- if you could choose between bringing your family, your friends, or that special someone, who would you bring? Just a fun sorta post. : ) Not that I've ever actually heard of any desert islands... they all seem to have fairly adequate rainfall and palm trees and such. : D

Since I've been enjoying my holidays for a month and still I read here about people having some mocks I was wondering... When do you have your holidays? Those longer and those lasting a week, two or sth? And summing all, how many 'free' days you have in the whole year? Oh, and where are you from/where do you attend school? As I mentioned, I've started mines a month ago and I still have more than a month as school starts the 1st of September. Then we have a week of Christmas break and a bit later 2 weeks of winter holidays and a few days for Easter and a few in the beginning of May. There are also some one-days. I guess all in all it would be sth more than 3 months . …

I think income is undoubtedly one of the biggest factors when people decide upon which career path to embark on. So, if that factor of money was totally eliminated and everyone got paid the same, what would you do? Or does the concept of financial instability not phase you at all and you're already planning on doing some obscure job against your parents' wishes? I almost forgot to answer my own question, heh. So - if money wasn't an issue, I'd study design in university.

I just thought I'd do a bit of a 'shout-out' to the IB students in Norway at the moment. Whether you were directly affected or not by the devastating attacks recently, I'd like to say on behalf of the IB student community that we're thinking of you and your country, and hope those guilty can be brought to justice. Personally, I have a Norwegian psychology teacher and she explained to us the effect an event like this can have on a nation's psyche. We understand that Norway has always been an peaceful, friendly country and this is why these attacks have shaken so many people. We hope that Norway can recover from this tragedy, and extend sympathy to the victims and victims'…

I would hate myself, if I would hate someone just because of skincolour, religioun etc. I from Somalia - I'm black/brown, whichever. Why would I hate white, yellow or red person? Google+ plus gained 10 million users in 3 weeks! That's lot though. At the time Google+ looks to be a serious contender to Facebook. I hope most of you aren't like an IB student at our school who quit watching movies for one year not to be distracted. Movies can be quite relaxing especially on Fridays Anyway, the title says it all, what was the last movie you watched? If you don't mind, write a brief plot summary about it and whether you'd recommend it or not. Let me start. Dark City's about this guy who wakes up in a bathtub with complete memory loss and finds a dead body in the room. He soon realizes that he's being chased by a group of "people" known as The Strangers and they have the power to put people to sleep. On the run from the cops and The Strangers, he struggles to figure out who he is and…

My friend posted the following on facebook: "All Cats are Animals, and all Dogs are Animals, and all Kangaroos are Animals, so therefore all Cats are Dogs, and all Dogs are Cats, but not all Dogs are Kangaroos, and Kangaroos can only be Cats if the Dogs aren't Cats. Disprove me" I told him his logic was faulty and I don't feel like typing the reasons why because I've typed them oh so many times, and I feel they're obvious but he keeps insisting that he is correct. Any thoughts? My mind is exhausted as I've tried to explain it for over two hours.

This is an interesting debate that came out last night. So which one would you rather do? By barfing, I don't mean going to a private place and doing it there. I mean in public. For instance, you're on the dance floor, would you rather puke (most likely you'll do it on people too ) or would you rather pass out? But before you immediately choose passing out, here's a funny story that came up during the discussion. A friend of ours once drunk so much, he woke up in a ditch naked. luckily, the thieves left him his boxers and they weren't rapists. Regardless, I'd still rather pass out.

Hi everyone! A friend and I have set up a site called "Project Postscript", it's basically an online time capsule where you write 'postscripts' - stories, unsaid things, anything that comes to mind. www.projectpostscript.tumblr.com It's in its beta stages at the moment, so things might mess up a bit. It'd be great if you had a look around and maybe submitted something! (:

My friend just started a tumblr a couple of days ago. She just finished the IB, and she's taking a gap year to figure out what she wants to do with her life. You should check it out if you want another view on the IB, and what the future might bring. It's called "Molding the Future" and can be found at www.frighteningfuture.tumblr.com Let us know if you like it!

BAsically, i started this forum because I thought that this would be really interesting I myself am struggling, with getting teachers to predict me higher, because I know i CAN definitely do it....and restricting my potential in such a way is just HIGHLY unfair, considering that I got like more than a YEAR to get better My own adivce (based on HG Bellamy's ^^) is basically to threaten them with whatever you have, as that sounds very very fair to me...but it doesnt work. so if you have any ideas, feel free to share them

I suppose the question is do you like to do group work in assignments? Or do you prefer to work on your own? Why? The reason I'm suddenly bringing this up is that this semester (and I suspect for the rest of my time at university too since I cleverly picked 2 majors that both require a lot of group work) I have at least 1 group work assessment task for each of my 4 courses. The most exhausting of course is my marketing assessment since it's on going for 6 weeks and basically there's a part due every other week so we basically have to meet up every week. Trying to arrange schedule for 5 people with very different uni schedules, most of whom work outside uni, to meet every…

But i know that that won't be enough fairly soon.

AP vs IB? 1 2

This may not be the best thing to post in an IB forum, but here goes. I was thinking of switching to AP, for a variety of reasons. I've heard the courses are a little harder, although that may just be my school, because other people on here say otherwise. Also, it is supposed to be better recognized in the US, whereas IB is better recognized in the UK. What do you guys think? What would you say is better, AP, or IB, and why?
