Hey guys, I thought it would be fun if we'd share our favourite YouTube clips here at IB Survival! Suggestively post one link at the time, with the URL and a small description. Here's one of my favourites, I can watch it 500 times and still laugh, it's perfect! The trumpets chant, the sprinkle, the umbrella man... Alright, let's think ahead, far, far ahead of IB Exams, even ahead of University. So what in a career is the most important to you? e.g. is it for the $, or for what you'll do, or for its impact on society etc. Make a ranking list Better yet, tell us the profession that you're aiming for~ Meh: 1) Personal interests, ex. I'd never dream of becoming a historian even if I get paid 5 grand per day. Or a doctor, I'd die first before performing an autopsy, especially after my mom's detailed description of her placement experience. So I thought, maybe a rockstar, and that was 5 yrs ago. 2) Contribution to society, so maybe I won't be a video game tester... Although it's loads …

What is your favourite movie and why do you like it? What movie do you really want to watch and what movie means a lot to you? My favourite movie is The Boy In Striped Pajamas because it is so innocent and not at the same time. It is so good. I really want to watch a few new movies; Tangled, Due Date, Love and Other Drugs, 127 Hours and Harry Potter 7 Part 1. A movie that means a lot to me is Finding Nemo. It is the only movie that I have watched over 12 times. I love it to bits because it was one of the first movies I bought with my money and I was so proud of myself. I was 10 years old. Answer these questions and maybe leave movies you think is really good and I will wa…

I was just curious how many people here are lefties. I've noticed a good chunk of the people in my IB classes are lefties, well more than the usually. As for myself I write with my right but play sports with my left. I guess you can say I'm ambidextrous.

Title says it all. My type of boy: 1. Tall. At least he should be taller than me (161 cm). 2. Smart. Or at least rational enough. I don't like those idiots who ask stupid questions to teachers and never do homework. Oh, dear. 3. Does not smoke. Smoking = trying to kill me. Even my dad is a smoker and I always go away when he smokes at home. 4. Preferably somebody wearing glasses. He will look smart with glasses . Or at least it suggests that he reads a lot. Or plays too much game? 5. Funny. Somebody who can at least laugh. I'd prefer somebody who can make me laugh, though. 6. Loves music. It would be great if he can play a guitar. Or piano. Or at least he listens to som…

I would have to say that my worst case scenario was when my power suddenly went out when I was writing my Extended Essay. Thank God I had saved what I had before the power went out. I was expecting the power to come back on in a few minutes, but it stayed out the entire night so I had to write all of it by hand and then type it up the next day. It was kind of nice I suppose...looking back on it and all ^^ I didn't have anything to distract me aha

So I came across this article about the whole issue of women not being able to keep secrets. This is not sexist, because as you can see, I am girl.. Researchers found that women are overcome by a burning desire to share gossip as soon as they hear it. They will typically spill the beans to at least one other person in 47 hours and 15 minutes. Depending on who the gossip is about, their boyfriend, husband, best friend or mother are most likely to be the initial recipients of the information. The study of 3,000 women aged between 18 and 65 also found that four out of ten admitted they were unable to keep a secret – no matter how personal or confidential the news was. It…

When I chose my courses for the upcoming year, my course counselor told all of the Full IB students that there would pretty much be no chance of survival without having at least one spare. So my question to you is, how did you spend your spare(s)? How would you suggest spending spares with Full IB? Working, sleeping, slacking?

There's already a thread for favorite song, but I'm thinking every single person would have a favorite sad song, you know, the kind of song that gets you thinking.. We all listen to music and listen to the lyrics, but some songs just makes you sit quietly and listen and you realize after the song ends that you were silent doing nothing throughout the song. I know not everyone is like that, but I am sure many are. So, what is the song that gives you that feeling? I really like Right here waiting for you- Richard Marx

Well I can't find the original BBC page anywhere, if there was one, but apparently the BBC believe that the average individual has read only 6 of these books. I'm sure people here can do better For a bit of light procrastination, how do you score? I reckon I've made it through 57 of these beasties, but then again I not only love reading and have done for a long time, I also loved it when I was a child so scored up on all the kiddies books which're on the list, which is actually quite a large number! So perhaps less impressive! Got to find out if the other 43 are worth reading now...

Hi guys, I'd love to get your input: (: IB1's just ended for me, and I've been thinking about college courses recently. I've run into a wall:I don't know what I want to do. ): I mean, I know what I kind-of want to do, but not specific enough to let me go into something. (Want to do something interdisciplinary. Something with making connections and solving problems in society.) Mulling over college costs (and the low probability of getting a scholarship for what I'd probably go into; local bodies probably prefer being guaranteed an investment with returns that are... more solid), make taking a year or two off between IB and college appealing. I'd probably go find a job (…

I have just finished my first year, and admittedly I haven't cared much about school. I do work on the last minute, procrastinate all the time and have never bothered with homework. I simply rely on natural ability to get through with predicted score of 39. Red lights have flashed up, and i realise that to get my 43 that i need for law, i need to try harder, I just can't seem to break out of old ways old habits die hard any suggestions and methods you have used to stay organised, whether its colour coding, to do lists etc.

Hey guys, i came about this article recently and I though it was pretty interesting: They put on their headphones, drape a hood over their head and drift off into the world of ‘digital highs’. Videos posted on YouTube show a young girl freaking out and leaping up in fear, a teenager shaking violently and a young boy in extreme distress. This is the world of ‘i-Dosing’, the new craze sweeping the internet in which teenagers used so-called ‘digital drugs’ to change their brains in the same way as real-life narcotics. Reaction: A teenage boy looks in a state of distress as he listens to an 'I-Dose' They believe the repetitive drone-like music will give them a ‘high’ that tak…

Everyone doing the IB goes through a phase or multiple phases where they ask themselves why they've chosen to... well do the IB! And if you haven't then I'm quite sure you'll agree that the IB isn't a stroll in the park. It's a rigorous programme that requires some brains and quite a lot of hard work! So my question to my fellow IBers is what would it take to just quit, walk away... The only rule is that whatever you wish for - money, computer games or a king sized bed you can't wish for a place in a University or Job I know that's a bit mean but I wanna hear what's driving you other than the prospect of a good Uni/Career... --Blind

Let's get this straight... What this thread is: - A list of good procrastination methods - How to best enjoy procrastinating - When you should procrastinate - Past procrastination experiences (pro or con) What this thread is not: - Ways to stop procrastinating - Why you should not procrastinate - Proven techniques to keep on topic - A place to ask about work (unless it pertains to avoidance of said work) Do not feel bad about procrastinating! It is a natural and healthy survival technique if you are an IB student. You are probably procrastinating right now! I know that I am.

So what are your pet peeves? Just some things you just get annoyed at or can't stand. Me: Laundry. I hate doing laundry. Unfortunately I still have to do my own laundry. sigh. I also hate the sound of rustling plastic bags. This originated from IGCSE and IB exams. We aren't allowed to take pencil cases in so most people take their pens in in see through plastic bags. But instead of pouring them out like I do, they leave their freaking pens in the bags and all the way through the exams, there would be this RUSTLING noise every once in a while. It's extremely annoying!!!!!! I also hate being nagged and people accusing me of things I haven't done. Oh and I hate noobs a…

This is what I did when I had no life: To IB or not to IB, that is the question; Whether ‘tis smarter in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous intellect Or to take arms against a sea of homework, And by opposing, end them. To drop, to sigh; No more; and by a sigh to say we end The head-ache and thousand natural shocks That brain is heir to –‘tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish’d. To drop, to sigh; To sigh, perchance to breathe. Ay, there’s the rub, For in that breath the consequences may come, When we have shuffled off this mental block, Must give us pause. There’s the respect That makes calamity of staying still, For who bears the whips and scorns of …

Adapted from The Correlation Between Music and Math: A Neurobiology Perspective By: Cindy Zhan I myself am good at Math, and I sing well, too. unfortunately I do not play any musical instruments, simply because I did not learn to. and I think that there might be some cases where people are good at both Math and Music, but it still does not guarantee that everybody who is good at Math is good at Music, vice versa. what do you guys think? which one(s) are you good at? any friends of yours who are good at both? now are you going to learn more Music in order to do better at Math?

I've had a fair few of bad teachers. Some of them don't even know what they were talking about half the time, and when the students in her class got awesome grades, she took all the credit. One really hated children but he still taught a year 7 class (don't ask me why...). There was also one who said she didn't know how to use a calculator (science teacher) but I wasn't sure whether she was telling the truth or not. So tell me about your best and/or worst teachers. Obviously, don't include any names!

To all of those in the ACT or NSW in Australia, I would just like to voice by discontent with the new ATAR (previously UAI) conversion for 2009. With the new ranking system the marks of everyone who is doing the HSC in 2009 will be scaled UP by between 6 and 0.05 points compared to those recieved in previous years. The marks of those who are doing the IB however, are not being changed from the previous conversion to the old UAI. So, if a HSC student achieves a mark that was previously a 68.95 as a UAI, this year they will recieving an ATAR of 71.20 instead. If an IB kid however, scores a 24 wich was also previously a 68.95 as a UAI, they will still be getting a 68.95 as a…

I find that being an IB student affects your high school love life in a lot of ways. I either can't find somebody that I can have an intelligent conversation with who is also athletic (as I am too.) or I simply do not have time for a relationship. And when I do, they always seem to be a lot older than me (as I skipped grades) And so the question is: How is your love life/Overall opinions on dating? Has IB affected it?

I'm personally quite happy that Limewire has been ordered to shut down. I've been against it since I learned what it really was, in essence, stealing music. I really do support the artists I listen to, I want to buy their music. It angers me that some people claim to love certain artists, but refuse to pay for their music. I've paid around 800 dollars in the last 4 years for my music. and I have the iTunes receipts to prove it. I don't have a problem with small scale peer-to-peer (P2P) music sharing-- that's how the music discovery process begins. peer to peer sharing needs to be exactly that- peers, likeminded people, sharing music with each other because they think the …

hey i just wanted to point out something ridiculous within IB. I am coming up to, one week away from my FINAL EXAMS! mega awesome and exciting. However, due to IB clearly lacking a brain... i have 5 exams on my first day, and IB would only reschedule my exam for one of the subjects and not the whole class... leaving me stuck having to sleep over at my co-ordinator's house...so i can't cheat, then still have to complete 3 exams in the morning. So, i just wanted to complain...and figure anyone else can complain here too if you have ridiculous things with IB. My good friend once said nothings ever easy for an IB kid. So fellow IB people, do you cheat on tests, quizzes, or other assignments? Also, by cheat, I don't mean asking Susy Q what the answer to #5 on your homework was. By cheating I mean deliberatly copying numerous answers from people on assignments, looking at other people's tests, and writing answers on your hand, bits of paper, etc. I myself almost never cheat. The reason I say this is that I have taken advantage of my graphing calculator in the past lol, and it wouldn't be honest to say No in the poll. Although, I show my work anyway, and most of the things I use were already per-programmed. The reason I'm asking is that I see alot of my fellow classmates cheating on thei…
