As the deadline for sending in my application through UCAS is getting nearer (15th of Oct), I've been thinking of what to write on my personal statement. With all honesty, after spending quite some time thinking about this, I've come to the conclusion that I have NO IDEA what I want to write. Am I supposed to write about MYSELF or why I'm applying for that specific course etc. I am finding myself in a very complicated confusion right now.. Help?

This question has probably been asked a few times. Either way, I'm wondering if anyone knows roughly what sub-topics to revise prior to doing the BMAT. Is there, for example, any point in revising the plants parts of IB Bio HL, or is the biology focus strictly on physiology?

Hi guys! I want to study computer science at Cambridge and I've been looking through the course requirements and they said that further mathematics is considered highly desirable, which means that I qualify for applying but will be at a disadvantage. The reason I didn't take further mathematics is because our school doesn't offer it. So what do you think? Are my chances slim with just HL math? Is there anything I could do to boost my chances with just HL math? I'm doing my EE in math about a subject related to computer science, but I doubt they care much about that. By the way, does Cambridge care about the 3 extra points from TOK + EE? Because the way I understand it is …

Hey, Just one quick question. I have been going to an international school for 5 years now and by the time I will go to university 6. It is a completely english speaking school. I am now taking the IB and my english level is English Lit HL and after the first year my grade is a 6. I do want to apply to the UK for engineering. Will UK universities still ask me to do the TOEFL? Donato

Hi, I've heard that this Uni offers a 2 year degree program, isn't that a bit too suspicious to the employers, when a fresh graduate passes them an only 2 year bachelor's degree? I mean don't they think that a 2 year degree program is just not enough? And, does the uni create any job opportunities while your at the Uni. Share your experiences and thoughts of this uni.

Hi, does anyone have any recommendations of universities in the UK offering the courses of anything relating to law and/or business? Possibly a uni that offers both international business or law would be nice as well. If not, could anyone suggest good spots in the UK for studies that you could also could go traveling quite a bit. Thanks!

The summer goes by fast and most of us (applying in the UK for 2012 entry) are already into UCAS trying to finish our application as quickly as possible. EDIT: deleted every information initially written and this post is now about: Where are you applying this year? Have the increased fees affected your choices?

I moved to the UK last year from the states. My mom found a public school that had the IB, but it is awful. I have contacted a better school to ask about transfer but they want me to consider starting over. I want to take Medicine in Uni but I am worried about how this suggestion would affect me. I have no support, we seem to be behind other schools. The head is promising they will do better next term but I am worried it will just be the same old stuff.

I'm presently filling out my UCAS form, and I have a question relating to entering my post-16 education. In Year 10 (turned 16 that year), I undertook 3 VCE Unit 1&2 subjects, which are sort of like AS-levels I think. They are part of the official state HS curriculum, the Victorian Certificate of Education, however they are only assessed internally, through several assessed coursework tasks throughout the year and 1-3 formal examinations per subject. The school simply reports whether you passed or failed to the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority; however many schools, including my own, give letter grades on their reports and grade transcripts. They essentia…

Does UCAS require your high school transcript? Or only the predicted grades? Also, are there better chances of getting an offer if you apply soon? Like in first week of November (regular decision) and is the school able to predict grades at this point considering its only midway through IB?

I am doing, like every other IB student, CAS which consists of 6 activities for me. Do universitites expect you to do extracurriculars in addition to CAS. So that your appication says CAS + other activities. Because I dont know if I have the time to take in something else considering im doing HL math, HL physics, HL chemistry and HL language B.

What I mean is if there is a possibility I could not apply to any schools in 2012, finish my 2013 exams and apply with those grades to a univeristy and start studying higher education in September 2014. Applying with my acutal IB grade and basically taking a year off. I havent gotten my predicted grades yet, but I doubt that I could get anywhere with them. My teachers always underestimate my potential. When I did my GCSE's I was predicted 9 B's and 1 A, the 4 months before the exams. I ended up with 4 A*'s, 5 A's and 1 B. So I have no faith in predicted grades. I guess those 4 months of exam revision really made the difference.

I am in IB1 but in the summer i shall have to make the choice of where i want to go and what i want to study. Up till now i have always wanted to study marketing, but that was something i was just good at, liked and is what my teachers told me that i should do. Now i have an interest in Astronomy and it is something i always just enjoyed reading about or learning about. This is why i thought of doing astrophysics, now we get to the complicated part, i did not take physics ever before in my life so that would mean i would have to do an foundation year physics, also my maths is not good enough to enter any physics course leading me to an foundation year of maths. Now my pro…

If you could, can you suggest the 5 universities I should apply to, considering my 28 points? And also consider 2 safe, 2 target and 1 stretch university. Thank you.

You know that you 2 predicted grades in the first IB yr. And then in the second IB yr you get your final predicted grade which you use to apply to uni. My question is, if your 2 previous predicted grades affect your final predicted grade? I got a 6 in physics HL the first and second semester of the the 1st IB yr. Does that mean I cant improve after summer and get the 7?

Hello, I am asking you to say your opinion, which profession/ course might be more successful in various aspects (career prospects, salary, etc). Right now I am deciding which one of them to choose. I love animals, but I am frightened by the fact that I may end up working in some zoo or sitting in a laboratory, which I don't really enjoy Environmental science seems appealing because I would fancy creating safety projects of dealing with environmental law to protect some kind of living things Also, environmental science seems to involve more physics, maths and such stuff which I do not like, while zoology is almost purely biological course Please, help me decide and lo…

I am a good student I think with some work I would even be eligible to study at Oxford / Cambridge, but the problem is that I can't afford to pay the amount that they demand. So I started looking for scholarships / financial aid programs, but I didn't find any. The closest thing I've found is the student loan, which I really wouldn't like to take. Then I decided that maybe there are smarter people out here who have already found the answer to my question, and came here . So, do you know any oxbridge scholarships / financial aid programs for European IB students? scholarships / financial aid programs for European (I'm from Finland) IB students? Or do you know for a fact th…

Hello, Planning to apply for the academic year 2013-2014, but still unsure what fee status to apply for. I have dual nationality ( UK being one of them). My brother applied a few years ago, and was accepted as a home student. However, i emailed several universities, and most of them replied saying they cannot decide yet which is quite worrying. The international fees for medicine being quite expensive doesn't exactly encoarage me to pursue the undergrad degree in the UK. Is anyone in the same situation? Or does any one have any advice on what to do with the UCAS application soon?

As I said, I'm putting Nottingham as my firm offer (36 points and 6 in English), but I'm thinking of adding Durham (38 points, 776 at HL) as an insurance simply for the prospect of them accepting me despite my low scores? Does that eliminate the chance of Nottingham accepting me despite the lower score or no?

I graduated from IB in May 2010 with a diploma of 39 points. Now I want to apply to universities in the UK to study Arabic and International Relations. I really want to get into St Andrews but I'm doubtful as to whether they will accept me. The minimum requirement for Arabic-IR is 38 points (only because IR is so popular; other joint honours with Arabic require around 36) so I'm just above the limit. My personal statement will not be filled with stories about fancy extracurricular activities, but I'm sure that my English teacher can write a fantastic reference about my language skills. It's too bad that you can't write different personal statements for different courses. …

Warwick vs. King's College London

Hi, I've been debating this with myself for a while I know and I figure it's time to get some help. I currently have conditional offers from both universities for 38 points (for both) and I really can't decide which one I want to go to. The degree is Philosophy btw I've done some research and it looks like Kings is usually ranked higher in league tables for 2012 specifically for Philosophy. The problem however is that King's is about 20 minutes away from where I live so it would be logical for me to live at home while I study, this is something I don't want to do though. I really want to move away from home and that's where Warwick comes into the picture. So, I'm tor…

I did the practise papers provided on their website (http://www.lnat.ac.uk/lnat-preparation.aspx) today during Chemistry and Maths class (1 class for each paper). The less-than-studious environment, 40-minute time limit and requirement for multi-tasking rendered this a far from ideal environment for undertaking such a test, however I was both curious and bored. I scored 27/42 on the second paper, around what I'd expect, considering the circumstances. However, on the first paper, I scored 36/42. This seems bizarre on two counts: firstly, the massive point differential between the two papers, both undertaken in very similar conditions; secondly, the fact that the highest s…

Hi there, I received my admission at Hult in London with a good amount of scholarship. Along with that, I've also gotten into Exeter, City, Cardiff and Manchester. And I'm waiting for my Singapore replies (NUS & SMU) But, I'm really looking forward to take the offer at Hult as it sounds really exciting. So, should I? What are your views on this university? HI, I am getting into IB diploma, next school year.Planning to study computer science alone or with something else-not yet decided. I would like to be accepted in one of the 10 universities in UK (not OXBridge). So I´m in 9th grade, and mostly the people in my class are 15. I heard today that this one boy in my class, who is also 15, got accepted to university in the UK. I never even knew this was possible! He is going to be studying computer science and some math. I would be really impressed except I am just so suprised that this could even be possible. He is effectively skipping highschool and just going straight to university! I forgot to ask him what university, but he got the acceptance letter last week, and so after 9th grade is over, he is going to UNIVERSITY!!! He is pretty smart, but he isn´t leagues ahead, except in math somewhat. Its just so funny, especially since u…
