The counselor talked to the IB students, and she said that if you're going to the UK, you NEED the teacher who teaches the subject you're interested in to write your recommendation letter, and that it should be from an HL, but then she said pretty much the same thing for the US She confused me, so I just wanted to ask your opinion about the differences between a recommendation letter that is going to the UK Universities versus one that is going to the US Universities. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I posted on this forum a while ago asking about the UK uni admission system, and I think I finally got the hang of it a little So thank you so much for that, those who have kindly replied to me on that topic. But then some other questions also popped up in my mind: 1. When exactly does the application for Oxbridge start? 2. Could anyone tell me what kind of stuff are required for me when applying for them (how many essays, how many requirements, etc), or give me a site with all the requirements on there? 3. I heard that some of you did your interview with Cambridge sometime in December, but then a girl in my school did her interview with Oxford around mid-October la…

Hi, I am planning on studying physics in the UK (so far with the research I've done cambridge, imperial, durham, leeds, bristol (dont remember if thats the one, think it began with a b ) are my top choices). I am aiming at studying nuclear physics (my end goal is to research for the development of fission power). I am wondering what sort of courses are available for this. My high school is going to help us with choosing courses in 2 or 3 months, but any extra help is really appreciated. Does one start with a general physics course, then end up specifying in nuclear physics? I haven't cut away the possibilities of other studies like particle physics or any ph…

Hi everyone, So far I've applied to universities in the UK and three in Florida, because of Bright Futures which would pay my full tuition. I have conditional offers (that I'm fairly sure I can achieve) from the university of Manchester and York and I'm waiting to hear about Oxford and Bristol. The course I applied for is Physics and Philosophy (MPhysPhil in 4 years). Before I began applying to universities I discussed finances with my parents and they said that they'd be able to afford me going to university in the UK, and considering my Cypriot citizenship I might even get reduced tuition. However, recently my father has discussed his finances with the person in Romani…

Hey, I'm studying in Australia at the moment. Our school year starts around the end of January and finishes earlier on in December of the same year. So I've finished my first year in IB course so far, having my summer break at the moment. The thing is, I want to study in UK for uni - it's been a dream of mine since I was 5. But then the uni admission system kinda confused me a bit. I always thought that I had to get the final final IB mark before I put an application form in and not the other way around, as it apparently is O_o So I'm kinda confused about it at the moment. And another thing is, down here in Australia we do our final exams in Oct.~Nov., so it's about 6 mon…

Hi everyone, Here's my situation: I just finished my application form, got my reference, personal statement and predicted grades ready. But when I finally wanted to upload my predicted grades the system told me that there was an error because I was placing grades for future examinations (I was on the education area of the application). Anyways, I also looked on the reference part (where it says predicted grades), but I can only put the total grade for the IB. It is not showing me any kind of area where I can put the specific predicted grades for every subject I'm taking. The application is asking me to leave the grade space as "pending" in the education area for eac…

Hi, As you might have noticed, this is my first post on these forums (having lurked around for a little bit), so I ask, please, bear with me if I'm covering old ground or posting in the wrong place or committing any of the usual newbie failings First, I feel I should give a little background on myself. I'm 15 years old, and my school has just introduced the IB. I'm coming towards my A-Level/IB choices and would really like to be able to decide what to take ASAP, but I don't feel I'm getting much support or help from my teachers, who just tell me to decide based on my GCSE results, which doesn't really help in the slightest since I'm usually a straight A* student. I took …

Hello Do universities in the UK prefer the IB programme over regular A levels? I heard that only some do, such as the University of Nottingham, but is that really teh only one . I mean I'm not even in the IB yet but im wondering if its really worth it. :/ Help?

A lot of people have told me that many British universities do not accept Math Studies students but i want to take Political Sciences in uni and i have 4 highers in IB (Eng, Econ, Hist, and French) so i was wondering if i applied to somewhere such as Oxford or Cambridge to study political sciences or international relations, will they really not accept me on the grounds of math studies? Because i thought taking 4 highers is impressive to unis and that maths doesnt play a major part in politcal sciences or int. relations. Could someone please enlighten me?

For you guys, when inputing your predicted scores, does it give you the option to input the scores for each individual test, or just for the overall IB diploma? It is only allowing me for the overall diploma. Is my recommender supposed to include the predicted in the written recommendation, then?

Just something I noticed. When you go to UCAS and look at the conversion of IB grades to UCAS tariff points, they're actually not that bad. Each university has an entry requirement of UCAS tariff points. I am just curious, does anyone know if the universities look at the UCAS tariff points and then look at your IB grade? On University sites the IB grades tend to be higher than the IB grades are converted to UCAS tariff points.

I've heard that LSE is the best (or one of the best) but I have my doubts whether Cambridge or Oxford are at the same level or even better than LSE. From a personal aspect which UK university would you consider to be the best in terms of economics and the way they teach the courses? Also, do you think these IB courses will satisfy the requirements to apply into any of these type of universities? Are they good choices for economics? Mathematics HL Psychology HL Economics HL English A2 SL Spanish A1 SL Physics SL Thanks.

Hello, I am (of course) an IB student and i am planning to attend a uni in the UK to study Architecture. I have a few questions concerning portfolios: How do i send it? Does UCAS have to do with it? How important is it? When do i send it? (with the application or after) Any general guidelines/advice? thanks for your time.

Just a short question here.... I know that it is supposed that when applying through UCAS you can only apply to 5 univs... But do you know if an international student can get more than 5 applications? also...all of the universities applications are made through UCAS, but is there any way in which I can apply through UCAS to some univs and through an application form via mail like in the US so that I can apply to more univs? Thanks.

Hello, everyone. The time to choose the right universities came. And instantly, that gives a rise for a sorrow question: buy insurance by choosing a low-rank university/course (biochemistry, biosciences, biomedicine) or risk to fail by coosing my firm choice (Dentistry/Medicine)? It is known that UCAS has 5 choices. So how my combination should look like in the best case? 1)1,2,3,4-Dentistry/Medicine 5-Foreinsic sciences/Biochemistry 2)Something mixed up of both equally 1.Dentistry 2. Biochemistry 3. Medicine 4. Biomedicine 5. Veterinary 3)1,2,3,4,5-Biosciences/Biomedicine/Foreinsic Sciences.

So my expected grades will probably be from IB1 will probably be 7 HL math, 7 HL physics and 7 HL chemistry (97% from paper1 so pretty much guaranteed) But i think i will get like 16 points from SL. (English A2, Finnish A1, BM) So will they ask me for interview? Even if my SL subjects grades are kinda bad.

So Say ive got two offers: uni A asks 30 IB points and uni B asks 29. If I set A as firm (logical) and B asinsyrance, and then get 45 points in the end, will I still be able to say: no, I actually wanna go to uni B and decline A's offer? *Without reaplying or clearing?? And will I have to pay a fine if in the end i decide to go a uni in another

My best friend is about 75% sure that he'll be going to a prep school for his senior year next year. He said he's found a few that seem alright. However, he wants to find one with IB so the credit transfer will work out ok if he decides to come back to Canada for university. Does anyone know anything about this? I'd really like to help him out, this means a lot to him. Likewise, is there any that anyone knows of in Ontario? As selfish as it may sound, I kinda want to keep him close to me as much as possible, and I may be going to Ontario next year for university. I was sorta hoping to persuade him to stay in Canada. Thanks : )

I live in Australia and I'm planning on travelling to the UK after my IB and hopefully doing a Bachelor of nursing science (not because they don't offer this in Australia, but because my mum lives there and I need a bit of a change and would like to travel.) Does anyone know whether it is possible to do a Diploma of Languages alongside a Nursing Degree in the UK, like you can in Australia? Thanks

Does anybody know what this school looks for in your IB Diploma? A friend of mine told me you have to do Math HL in order to be able to apply to LSE; is that true? Is it possible to apply with like, Math Studies, or is the minimum Math SL? I can't really find any answers to these questions at their website, so...
