I moved after doing 1 year of GCSEs and I now do the MYP. As I don't get along with the system and don't want to do the IB next year, I'll be going back to England to boarding school and I'll do my AS and A Levels. My worry is that I heard the MYP isn't a recognised/formalised qualification in the UK, and I won't have any GCSEs as back up. Most UK universities require a C for Maths and English at GCSE but I won't have that - I'll only have A Levels and the MYP. So, what I'm wondering is how my university application will work if I have the MYP and A Levels but not GCSEs if the MYP isn't really recognised in the UK? Thanks

Hi all. I've been looking at universities around the UK and looking at the requirements. Naturally, since I'm international student, I will be taking the IB. But some universities look at the GCSEs, so how much do you think GCSE scores will affect your chances of getting into a good uni in the UK? If it is looked at harshly, I'm a bit worried about my math GCSE. I took Mathematics Extended and came out with an A, and was put into an Additional Mathematics GCSE. I'm worried my score for the Additional Mathematics- which will probably end up being C- will effect my chance of getting in. How would universities look at an A in Extended and C in Additional?

Hey guys! I figured it might be time to start a thread for this in anticipation of the 15th of October - deadline. I straight up copied Erudite's format from last year, because it was pretty great. Fingers crossed! So, what about you?

I was quite confused when i saw the grade requirements for UCL. Even when someone mentioned that they called up the admissions office and found out that a 38 is the required predicted grade, I was still not sure if they required a 38/42 or 38/45 for predicted scores. Even though i scored pretty well in the first term with a 39/42 i did kinda mess up my second term because of various reasons such as being sick during prep and might end up getting a 35 or 36 on 42 . UK admissions are before the 12th grade first trials and this scares me as i'm not sure what the predicted grades will be based off of. Is there a way i can still increase my predicted grades by doing well in …

Hi guys, I'm an IB student and am really looking forward into getting accepted into UCL in UK for a medical program(mostly the MBBS/BSc). I will have to apply in 4 months and so far I have finished my 11th grade and even though i got a 39/42 in the first term with: 7 in Chem HL 7 in Bio Hl 6 in Psychology HL 7 in Math SL 6 in Spanish SL 6 in English Land and Lit SL, and 37/42 in the second term (iwas kind of sick and ended up not being able to prepare well) :/ : 7 in Chem HL really high 6 in Bio HL 7 in Psychology HL 6 in Spanish AB really high 6 in Math SL 5 in English L&L SL Yeah my second trials weren't as good as i expected but the teachers know that i could've do…

Hi guys, would appreciate your help and input i was browsing through the entry requirements for accounting and finance through UCAS, and I found out that I have fulfilled what UManchester, UEdinburgh, and a few others want in terms of total IB points. Most of them want a 34 or a 35, and I have a 36 which is not that great but still over the requirement. But the problem is my HL points. UManchester wants a 6,6,5 in HL subjects, but I have a 6,6,4. (4 in HL maths paper 3 screwed me over). My other HL is B&M and chem, and I also have a B in B&M EE. Similarly for UNottingham they want 18 HL points and I only have 16 ;\ Does this mean that I can't apply for the…

Quite some time ago I applied to some universities, and got my offers- I received my last offer couple days ago, and now I need to reply to two of them. I am stuck between Kent and Leeds. Those two both seem to be great, but which one should I choose? Kent is 15-minutes away from the sea and 45 minutes away from London, which I literally love, but on the other hand I know that location is not the feature I should look at the most. Leeds is part of Russell group and has great facilities. As you can probably see I am not from the UK and at the moment I don't really have time to visit the two (although if I don't decide within a week or so I may need to think about schedulin…

Hi everyone , So I was just wondering, what difference does a "bilingual diploma" make in prestigious British universities like Oxbridge? I am currently doing English Lit HL and Chinese Lit&Lang SL, but i am finding it very difficult to keep a high tier grade for both of the subjects at the same time. One of the options for me is to drop English to language B, but according to my English teacher, the course would be "too easy" for me. I guess my question is that, would it be worth it to get lower points with two language A instead of higher points but with English B? I would really appreciate your help

Hi, I want to apply to University of Edinburgh (or Glasgow) and study Business there. My teacher told about the possibility to change to English B HL. I am studying at the moment English A language and literature and find it quite difficult. My only concern is that it won't look good on my university application if I have English B. What do you think, should I take English B and possible improve my overall score or stick to English A? (I am not a native English speaker)

This question is mostly geared towards Singaporean students living in the states or in GB. For UK and US colleges, are you required to take an English proficiency test, for example, TOEFL? As far as I'm aware, Singaporeans speak English as our First Language, however, this is not recognised by universities. In addition, is there a UK-type TOEFL test that admissions would look at or is TOEFL recognised in the UK?

Hey guys, I'm doing May session 2016- my dream uni is Oxford, PPE, however I am not very strong at maths (I'm doing SL) and I've been wondering is it possible to get an offer with predicted 5? Do you know anyone who had a 5 predicted/ or happened to you? I am wondering, because I know that Oxford doesn't really consider applications for PPE with math studies, but well, if it doesn't give offers to people with 5s, I might switch to studies and do better and apply to other decent uni. Can anyone help me from their experience? Thanks a lot in advance

Hello! I'm an IB1 starting to look at some uni options. I saw the course in imperial about biomed and I was thrilled. Does anybody know how to get into Imperial? Also I found out that BSc in Biomedicine Science is not approved by IBMS (some society in UK which gives licences for biomed professionals). My question is, what do these people from Imperial do after they finish the BSc in biomed?

Hello guys I have just recently read the entry requirements for the LSE Accounting & Finance undergraduate course it states that LSE will require you to have 38 points HL math is desired but not necessary. Based on the fact that LSE does not have interviews with their potential students I would guess that they do only take into account your motivational letter or personal statement and obviously your grades. Now to my question ! How high is the chance of getting accepted with lets say 39 points and SL math but a very appealing personal statement and CV ? Of course I know that nobody will know the exact answer to this question however I would still be intereste…

Hi, some of my classmates and I are having problems with our predicted grades. We are applying as individuals on UCAS, since our school doesn't offer an application program. When we ourselves put our predicted grades, it says that ''Grade entered for future date'' So does this mean that we as applicants can't put our predictions? But there's no space for our referees to put them either?

Hi guys, I wanna apply for mechanical engineering at imperial college. Their website says that they require an overall IB score of 40, does that mean it's out of 42 or out of 45? Another thing is that they said they require chemistry at higher level for mechanical engineering, but when I emailed them, they said they needed physics and maths at higher level, so what is it? I am really confused Thank you in advance

Hello Dear IBSurvival users I have a question to you considering kind of popular topic - is it possible to study Economics after having taken Math SL? If yes, what universities would you recommend? I am now just starting my IB course and I wonder if switching to HL would be a good idea, however I am not so good at Math, but my teacher told me I could easilly achieve 6 in SL or even struggle to score 7 in the final year of IB with some effort. In case you need my subcjects, for now it looks like this: English HL History HL Geography HL Polish (my national language) SL Math SL (?) Chemistry SL I should also mention that in my school there is no such possib…

So, I am planning on applying to Oxford (god forbid I get my hopes up, I'm basically not expecting anything but just gonna give it a shot and see what happens, might as well try and fail than never try at all). Ofcourse I need to achieve all the grades, but for applying it would really help (and ofcourse i'm interested) in reading some books on these 2 topics. Does anyone have any recommendations for economis or management books? I heard freakonomics was supposed to be pretty good.

Okay so I clicked on "Pay/Send" on UCAS for my application form. It provided me with the following paragraph: "Don't forget that all subjects for which you have received a result must be entered, including those you have failed. Similarly, if you are waiting to take the final examinations or you are waiting for the final results, they still need to be entered. It is also important that you declare your full education history, including the most recent school, college or university you have attended or are currently attending. Failure to declare this information could result in your application being cancelled." Can somebody please clarify this?? Does the phrase "Don't for…

I'm planning to apply to the UK for biomedical sciences. My IB coordinator said that I need "experience" such as in GapMedics or else there's a slim chance I'll be accepted to any of the universities I'm applying to. Any comments? Is this really true? I live in the UAE and there aren't any opportunities to work for people under 18 years old so I don't know what to do Please help! Any help is highly appreciated!

Okay so I'm being predicted a 32 without the bonus points and 34 with the TOK and EE points. I already have 1 university at 34 without bonus points, 2 universities at 33 with bonus points, and my fallback uni is at 28. I'm still thinking of my fifth (and last) choice. 1) Do you think I should apply to a university at 35 points that accepts the bonus points? Or just look for a university at the 30-32 range? 2) Can you please share if you know of any university at the 30-32 points range All help is very much appreciated!!

Would I still qualify for an EU fee status or am I considered an international student? Hi, I have applied for the Social policy and economics course at LSE this friday. However, my other University choices were either economics or economics and management. My personal statement, though, is weighted a lot towards economics, but DOES have a section on social policy. Predicted 42/45 IB points (HL - 7 in Economics, 7 in English B, 6 in Mathematics and 6 in History, SL - 6 in Physics and 7 in Russian A, TOK - A, EE - A). Do I stand a chance of getting an offer from Social Policy and Economics course?

Hi guys! I'm getting really worried now. As I want to study dentistry in UK after IB, and the universities require me taking the UKCAT, I am going to take this test on October 1. I was planning on buying the "600 UKCAT Practice Questions"-book by Picard etc. for preparation in the next two weeks. However, I have to order this book online, and the shipping will take 10 days. This leaves me with four days of reading this book, as well as doing the practice tests. I tried to look for other opportunities, but the libraries found here does not have this book or any UKCAT Practice-books at all.. What should I do? How did you post-UKCAT-people study for it?

Hey! I have just started my IB1 year. I want to apply to study veterinary science in the UK after graduating the IB. My subjects are HL biology, HL chemistry and HL english A, also SL history, SL Finnish and SL studies maths. My problem is that I want to change my HL english A, to HL english B. If I do decide to change it, will it affect me in the application process to university negatively by having a easier IB subject (english B). I really want to change this because I have a chance to get a 7 from english B but english A is not my strongest subject. I do not study in a anglophone country. So the problem I have is. Higher points or higher quality subjects?…
