On a lot of UK university courses, they say HL maths is a requirement, e.g. for economics. Is there any point applying for them at all if I do SL? Even if I do really well overall and have good personal statements and references?

I live in America and really want to study in UK. (Not for education reasons but moreso for the culture) I looked at the more well known colleges like Cambridge and Oxford but I only have a 3.79 so I probably don't have too good a chance there. I have tons of extra curricular(class president lead in play, publicity director for our theatre department, volleyball, etc) I want to study medicine and theatre (Yeah, it's a weird combination but it's what I want). Any advice?? I have no idea where to start looking because we don't advertise for international universities here.

Based on my nationality (Malaysian) and/or current location (Taiwan), I'm considered as an international applicant, however; I've been studying in schools whose primary language of instruction is English for five consecutive years (eight if non-consecutive). I am taking HL English A1, if that is of any relevance; I don't know what I'm predicted, but based on my total score-range I'm guessing it's a 6. My academic counselors say that I don't need to take the TOEFL, based on my educational history and present capability in English, but may still need to, based on my nationality (which I think is rather unfair). I'm not worried about taking the test at all, if I have to. It…

I'd just like to start a thread for this for my fellow Aussies either 2012 or 2013 entry. What are your thoughts? I had Oxford pay a visit to my school (Wesley College, Melbourne, Victoria)last week and I gotta say it looks amazing. He told me that 7 undergraduates got in from Australian so that gives me a lot of hope *sarcasm*. Does anyone have a good idea about how predicted grades work? Good luck to everyone

So, my end goal is to be working in corporate law. Originally, I was planning to study a more academic-based undergrad degree in the UK (such as Oxford's PPE or UCL's ESPS), and then study law at graduate level in the USA, however the more I think about it, the more I'd rather do law in the UK and then do an MBA in the States. However, one thing that's worrying me is the fact that I have no work experience in the legal field. I've heard conflicting reports on this topic, but the general consensus seems to be legal work experience is highly desired for law applicants. Being a November 2012 session candidate, it's impossible for me to undertake legal work experience between…

I've applied to do sociology at Exeter, Cardiff, Lancaster, Brunel and Kingston university, and I've had the following replies (so far): Exeter - 30 points (conditional) Cardiff - no reply as of yet Lancaster - conditional - don't know the points yet Brunel - 30 points (conditional) Kingston - 24 points with 5 in English (conditional) My predicted grades: English HL - 7 Film HL - 5 Physics HL - 6 Maths - 5 Business - 5 Italian - 5 ToK - 3 Which makes 36 but I might be overestimating myself it's probably more like 34, which is what was sent off to the universities. I'm planning to apply to Cambridge and I want to study Math. I know that you need 777 or 776 at HL, but I have more than 3 HL subjects. Then I read on the website that they'll pick the most relevant HL subjects. I just don't know which would be the most relevant in my case. Does anyone know? As you can see, apart from Math and Physics (which are obviously the two most relevant), I have English, Spanish, and History at HL.

IB subjects: English A1 SL Spanish ab initio SL Economics HL Biology HL Maths SL Music HL TOK: Ethics EE: Music Applying as an international student - I'm from Australia. I'm predicted a total score of either 44 or 45, and have plenty of extracurriculars (which aren't really relevant to the course I'm wanting to take). I've been debating for my school for 5 years now, and I've had 5 days of work experience at a law firm. What are my chances of getting into Law at either of the universities? I'm not too familiar with the LNAT, so assuming I don't do so well on that. And, just out of curiosity, what are my chances for an Economics degree?

Year 12 still confused which path to go to!! Passion for both, weirdly! Can anyone studying either give me a bit of their perspective on their experience and uni perhaps? Only thing stopping me for medicine and giving me 2nd thoughts is.. The disecting part which disgusts me! Only thing stopping me from dentistry is the fact that it doesn't have the same prestige and reputation as medics! - and the fact tht my dream uni Oxford doesn't offer it! I love the anatomy of the human body .. And the constant meeting of new ppl and helping them out.. Being in. A family of medics and genuine passion for the subject.. I tHink this is where I wnna goa

Is this normal for UCAS applications?

Hi, I sent off my UCAS application around the 5th of October and only yesterday tried loging in to 'Track' my application. I've gathered that to check the status of my choices, I have to go to the 'choices' tab. However, it seems that this was last updated on the 7th of Oct, when UCAS processed it. Does this mean that UCAS have had no reply from universities regarding my offer? Or is this normal for UCAS applications? If a university has made a decision, I would really like to know. Thanks

Hello fellow IB mates! I am currently in Pre-IB, but I have already started checking out some universities. I am an international student. I study in Stockholm, Sweden. The university I am most interested in (I am very obsessed with ) is Warwick University. I would like to know if anyone else is applying to that university? I really want to study law in the UK and especially in that university, but apart from the 38 points required, I have no idea what else the university might look for in students. I would really like to receive some answers and advices on what to do in order to be accepted. Anything would be of help! …

Hi there! I'm in the process of writing my personal statement for law (applying to Oxford) and I've sort of come to a stand still. I decided to upload my statement stuff for the very ambitious people who want to go to Oxbridge etc. Even though I was rejected from Oxford after being invited for interview, my statement stuff indicates that its content is what they are looking for. I hope this helps my fellow IB'ers. For those of you who may not know, Oxford has an additional application form. Here you should write why you want to attend Oxford in the large space at the bottom of the application. Also you should have a SEPARATE reference for Oxford from a different teacher than the one who wrote your UCAS Referee Statement. You can see which schools I applied to and for which subjects so that the …

Hey guys! I wanted to do Medicine for University, but seeing as the IB (my first year) is hellish tough from the get-go, so, I was thinking to take my time in applying for Medicine and to make this act as a cushion or insurance if ever I might not meet the required requirements for medicine. I've also spoken to the teachers as well who are helping me with this and they too thought this was a good plan. So in summary, I'm gonna take up a Biology course in University which I should then use it to convert to Medicine whenever possible, after the first year? And I need some helpful insight, information about this method and all the necessary things I should be aware of. …

Hey, So I'm considering studying Law after I finish the IB course and I've heard from my University supervisor that some Universities might want the LNATs (an exam wanted by some UK Universities for Law). Now after reading some requirements in their websites I see that it is infact wanted by some/most Universities. I vaguely know what the exam is after heading to their website, but my question is, if any of you guys have taken the LNATs if it was difficult? Did you have to prepare and study a lot for it? Or was it easy compared the the IB exams? Thanks!

Hi, I'm applying to study undergrad law next year, and I've very confused as to which degree courses I should apply to. It seems to me that most unis offer BA and LLB, and they are both qualifying degrees -- so what is the difference? Also, I think LLM is a masters of law, so a postgrad degree, but why would you take that if you already have a BA or LLB which is a qualifying course. What is the JD? Thanks!

My question is: do English universities count English B HL as an ordinary HL subject? I take 4 HL subjects, and one of them is English B HL which is quite easy, and I will probably get 7. So, will the universities look at it as a normal subject or not, or will they even overlook it and look at other three subjects that I take at the higher level? Thanks a lot for reply.

Did anybody notice that BMAT and November IB Exams clash? It's on 2nd of Nov this year and I am clearly sitting a Maths Exam on that day. Not only that, the only testing centre in Australia is at Melbourne - which will require an airplane ride about 2-3 hrs. My IB coordinator has no idea how she can help me - she told me that IB hardly ever approve rescheduling exams(even when your father dies or you just broke your back from a car accident). The BMAT people tell me that I should talk to the IBO because they can't do anything about it. is anyone familiar with Uni of Westminster? is it a good uni? what major is it particulary famous for? or is it even famous? I've heard that it offers full scholarships for international students, hence I am interested to apply (for 2012). however, its IB minimum score for the course I want to apply for is only IB28, which can be said to be very low. so I doubt it is a good uni. however, the scholarship is very appealing. is it a good uni? if anybody can give me a review on this uni I would be very grateful. thanks in advance!

Hi! I was wondering if it is OK for me to apply for e.g. a joint degree of History and Psychology as well as a single degree of only History at the same university, just in case I don't get to the first one (as I have understood that getting in to do a single degree is a bit easier), or if this would be frowned upon by the university for some reason.

Well, I have almost finalized my university list for an undergraduate degree in Economics, but I still have not made a decision on my 5th university. I will certainly be applying to LSE (for economics), UCL (same), Warwick (same), Edinburgh (same). As a 5th choice I was considering Oxbridge but my university choices are risky enough with LSE and UCL. I really cannot make up my mind and I do not feel that I want to study at Oxbridge. As a result, I started considering the possibility of applying for a second course at LSE which is closely related to Economics and it is Economics and Economic History. I went through the course structure of Economics and Economic History an…
