Hey people , So I'm just wondering if there is anyone who is studying environmental science in UK unis or planning on studying it? Or maybe something close to it like Conservational Biology or Sustainable Development? (I noticed there are quite a number of different courses that are all closely related.) Anyways, if so, write up! It'd be interesting to hear about good unis for this or just anyone's thoughts who are also interested in this area!

The current prospectus for the university course I would like to take is here. In the document it lists the essential subjects, my question is; for any of the courses will I need higher level mathematics? Essential Subjects A level Biology (or equivalent) essential for all courses. International Baccalaureate 6 in HL Biology. A level Chemistry required for Biochemistry degree. Most courses also require GCSE Grade B in Chemistry or Double Science.

Right so here's the thing, I know which University to go to: UCL, Edinbrugh, Uni of Manchester, King's College, Uni. of St.Andrews and Queen Mary Uni. So, basically if anyone knows, -when are the entrance(?) exams for each of these universities, -what other requirements do they need besides the IB grade/marks -and any other things that I need to know about applying to one of these unis. for medicine that you guys can tell me more about. Thank you ever so much!

OK, let's say I would like to apply for IR course at Royal Holloway.. It is written at the universities web that the minimum requirement for the course and the typical offer is 35 IB points.. If my predicted grade is 34, does it mean I have no chance of getting an offer? Basically, the question is whether it is possible to get an offer applying with lower predicted grades than needed or not?

Helloo UK IBers I think, as lots of people have missed their offers and there's a few who got accepted, despite not meeting the conditions, they should post here to give all of us waiting to see some much needed hope!! I missed my King's College offer by a point and although my sixth form coordinator said it's unlikely I'll still get accepted, I still have some hope!! Post here if you've missed an offer and still got accepted or waiting to here and we'll give eachother encouragement

I'm wanting to study Politics in the UK and was wondering what Universities to go for? I've already ruled out Oxbridge because I want to do a pure Politics course or a Politics & French course. I've thought of Warwick, Durham, Newcastle and perhaps LSE, although it depends how expensive it will be to live in London at the time. Obviously I still have a lot of time to choose; I'm only starting IB1 in September! Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, I am in the second year of IB, and I will have to do my application until january 2012.. But I have a problem. I want to apply to Oxford University which the predicted grade is 38/39 points to enter in Medicine. But my predicted it is less than this values. They won't give me a conditional?? Or they will wait for the final grades? What is the base for their decision (recomendation letter??)? I have this doubt since a colleague of mine had 33 points in the predicted grades, and the minimum entry requirementes were 38 points. And yet, they give him a conditional, if he gets the 38 points the university would accept him. Thanks,

I have several questions to ask regarding postgraduate courses: How related does your undergraduate degree and the postgraduate degree your are applying for have to be? Is it possible to enter a completely different field? How long do postgraduate courses usually take? Can they be shortened e.g. if you attend the same university you did your undergraduate degree in, will they consider shortening the program from two to one? What are the main differences between taught and research based postgraduate degrees? What are the benefits of each? Are you able to take two post graduate courses at the same time? Thank you for your time.

Hi! Alright, so I have got 4 conditional offers - Exeter (34), York (34), Birmingham (34) and Sheffield (33). My predicted is a 36, and I'm pretty sure that I will be getting at least a 34. Now, all I am confused on is what university to choose as by firm and then secondly, my insurance. I am keen on Exeter and York to be in the the top two, but I'm really not sure as to which one is better. I have applied for Accounting and Finance, and while according to league tables, Exeter is definitely the best out of those for my specified subject, I'm not sure if it's the best university as a whole (campus life, city life, international students, etc.) If any of you have any s…

(Sorry if this is the wrong area- I'm having difficulties reading and understanding things at the moment because I'm ill) Is it just me or do universities not understand how the IB is graded? Half of the UK universities I've looked at are asking for 30+ points and relatively few are asking for 20-something. I'm not sure about out-of-UK universities, but from the ones I've seen it's like they're being a bit random about how many points they're asking for.

I am in IB1 and I am looking at studying engineering in Uni. I was looking at Oxbridge originally and they want pretty much 40+ points which currently in my eyes seems a bit extreme. I am doing Maths, Physics and Chemistry at HL and Spanish, English Lit and History at SL and my teachers are being pretty categorical that a 7 in Physics and Maths is next to impossible so I am just wondering if there is any point getting my hopes up for Oxbridge considering they want 7's in both. On a further point, would it be possible to get accepted with lower grades but if I had experience in industry, so doing a placement over the summer or a gap year. If so can anyone suggest places to…

Hey, I recently got a rejection from my first choice UCL on the last day they were giving out offers for modern languages . I have no idea what to do now, as I was kind of set on going there! Would they let me defer the entry and see if I got in with that? I have also got offers for Sheffield and Southhampton for German and History and Leeds for Music and History, all of those three have managable conditions. Does anyone have any views of these universities? I am also waiting on Kings College, although their entry requirement in 38 and I am predicted 38/39 so I don't know if I will get an offer, and if I do it is fairly unlikely I will get 38/39. Another option I do have…

Hello, I lived in Germany for 10 years and went to an IB school there. Right before my DP started, I moved back to Holland where I was born. I did my last two years of school, so my DP years, in a school in Holland. The school in Germany was quite small and I had a great bond with most teachers, especially one in particular, who I've asked to write my reference for UK universities because he knows me very well. I was told however that this is going to raise some major questions from the university, seeing as he didn't teach me in my DP years. We have however kept contact these last two years. The school in Holland is much bigger and although I do have a teacher who I see …

I'm an international student from Hong Kong and very interested in studying English in UK. However, due to various reasons, I have wrongly chosen to study English A1 SL, instead of HL, which now I regret so much. (But it'd be impossible to change subjects now. Plus I've got a very good teacher for English SL) I understand that most universities definitely want English HL but now I'm trying to do everything to compensate the loss. I will make sure to get a firm 7 for English SL definitely. And I'm doing my EE on English and planning to read a whole lot of books in summer. Hopefully I will be able to write a better PS to impress. Subjects I take: History HL Philosophy HL C…

So, I've just started IB this year and for the first two months, I took Maths at Standard Level. However, since I got a 'B' for my GCSE, my teacher said that he "strongly recommends" me to go to Maths Studies. I told him that I found Standard Level okay and I was planning to do Medicine at Uni. He told me that with Studies you get the same diploma as for Standard and many universities didn't "know the difference between them", so I go to Maths Studies and it's pretty easy. Much easier than Standard (right now, I'm getting a L6 at Studies). However, I was talking to some of my friends and they said that universities would not accept Studies for a Medicine course. So shoul…

I've recently made up my mind and sent my application to 4 universities so far. One choice left, and I am having a hard time choosing which one to choose. Uni of Southhampton: Economics and management studies (34 points with 5 in math sl) Uni of Sheffield (33 points) Uni of Manchester (30-33) Russian and Business management (this one would be ideal if I was sure I'd flunk my retakes... but I'm sure I did the same as I had before or even better). I recently heard that in the UK there are 2 advantages if you are applying to medicine: 1)if you get accepted right after you graduate high school, you will be able to completely finish in that university until you graduate (In Canada, every few years you have to reply ex. BS->Med School_>Specialty) Also, 2)In UK, it is one shorter year than if you do it in Canada. I was really excited to apply to Canada, but now I'm having second thoughts. What do you guys think?

Hey guys! I've got a problem with the Education part of my UCAS application. When I enter all the subjects I will be taking exams in, they ask for 'qualification date'. Clicking on the '?' button next to it did not clarify anything, so I want to ask you - should I enter there the session date (May 2011) or the date when I get my diploma (if so, when is it? September?). Thanks in advance

Hello everybody.. I never thought about being a doctor and so I didn't apply for medicine. During the last few days I was a little bit sick and had some visits to different hospitals. That, surprisingly, made me have another thought about it.. Do I have any hope?
