Since we have an Oxbridge thread, and I find some UCAS application processes quite confusing and questions-raising, I thought we might as well have a UCAS thread... All questions regarding UCAS should be addressed in this thread. And I want to start first. Does anybody else think that the 4000 characters limit is too little??? I have only written one paragraph explaining why I want to study in UK, haven't finished and have reached 616 characters. I don't think I could explain eeeeeverything that I'd like to include in my PS then. The mindmap indicates that the length is approximately 600 words, and I think it's very little! What font and size is used in UCAS apply fo…

IB is hard, we all know it, and there's always the temptation to take subjects where it's easier to get a 7. I just base my switching of History HL to SL on that. However, there are some subjects in the IB (and also A-Levels that aren't relevant to us) that are considered "soft" and as a result, universities like Cambridge and LSE have openly spelled out their attitudes towards them (not positive). Other selective universities do not accept them either. This is the list of "soft" subjects that aren't recognized the same way as other IB subjects, according to http://timesonline.typepad.com/schoolgate/...a-level-s.html: • Business and Management • Design and Technology • I…

I do not take the IBDP and I might be curious about the information if UK accepts IB Courses and/or IBCP students. I heard that Bradford university wants 6 in Math HL and Chemistry HL for Chemical Engineering or Chemistry (I'm currently taking HL math and HL chemistry)

So i'm nearing the end of T1 and my grades are as follows: 776- HL Lang Lit, Economics, History 777- SL Biology, Math AA, Spanish B (taking exam this year) If I maintained these grades to be predicted so, and also got three extra bonus points (thus a 44) and a good LNAT score, would I have a shot at Oxbridge? I'm afraid that my combo doesn't look too academic. And would it be wise to switch to a 4th HL? I'm acing SL Bio and might switch up. Thank you!

I really want to go to university in the UK but I currently would not be able to afford it and I don't think I could get a large enough loan to cover it. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I could make money as a student? I can't find any part time jobs in my area and well COVID ruins a lot of ideas too... If you have any suggestions or past experiences and recommendations, please let me know! Any suggestions are super helpful! Thanks

Hi, I am an IB student from Hong Kong studying HL Physics, Computer Science, and Geography, and SL Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, English A Language and Literature, and Chinese B. I'm expecting a final score of 42/45 points. Are there any competitive universities in the UK that allow students to apply to the school/department/faculty of Engineering without declaring a speciality (such as civil, aeronautical, etc.)? Do my qualifications allow me to apply? Note that I do not study HL Maths. Thank you!

I'm possibly going to study law in the UK and I'm currently going into the first year of DP. My current subjects are: HL - Bio, English A & Psych. SL - Chem, Maths AI, Spanish AB. I'm worried that if I don't want to do law, I won't have any uni majors and careers left. My backup plans are molecular biology/genetics etc and possible psychology. I most likely can't change my subjects unless i take bio SL and Chem HL which I wouldn't prefer. Please advise on what to do.

Hi everyone! hope you're all having a lovely day. I'm currently a Year 11 student moving into IBDP (Class of '22) and I'm planning to major in Psychology in the future. My current chosen subjects are Psychology, Biology and Geo at HL level, and Math AI, Chinese B SL Fast-Track and English Lang & Lit at Standard Level. I've looked through many websites for UK unis and I have yet found any specific math requirement? (whether or not I need to take Math AI HL or if it's okay to take Math AI SL) and I was wondering whether or not someone on here could help me with that! If you have any idea of whether or not it's required to take Math AI HL or SL for psych in u…

But I am doubtful because I am a Korean student and I am not a british citizen. What can I do with UK law degree as a Korean Citizen? What careers can I pursue? Thank you.

Hi Guys, I am right now choosing my insurance for ucas and can not make the final decision. I hold the offers for management course in both bath and KCL. I choose Warwick as firm choice... However, when it comes to insurance, I wanna choose bath since the course is great, but the condition is as high as Warwick's... For KCL, seems that management is not their strong subject...and I am not sure if I would go there when i miss my firm's condition.... Anyone has any suggestion??? A lot of thanks:)))))

Hey I am a native English speaker and I was just wondering if UK universities such as Nottingham, Oxford or Cambridge would allow college applications of students with English taken as a second language (acquisition). FYI; I'll be leaning over my sciences courses (physics and maths) in UNI.

Hello, I am about to turn down LSE and King's College London. This is for studies such as Politics, IR, History, War Studies and furthermore International Development. I would rather study law in my own country, and I also dont believe London is a city that suits me. I dont like big cities at all, and is very determined to go to a rather small place with outdoor (hiking, skiing etc...) oppurtinities, both Summer and Winter. This is not a brag about turning down good unis, as the opposite reason is why I am starting this topic: Is it a dumb choice to turn down LSE / King's? I am fairly confident that I will met the conditional offers quite comfortably with a bit of wo…

Hi. I dream of becoming an Astrobiologist... I was wondering which universities in the UK have astrobiology programs? And what final score I should have to get into them? If anyone is studying Astrobiology, and can provide any information about the career, it would be a great help. I already know a fair bit, but it would be nice to know more from somebody in the situation;)) Best Regards Petrea

Hello, I'm in my second month of year 13 currently. I think my average predicted score for the IB diploma is around 28-32. And I have no idea where to apply. I'm currently based in Dubai, but I would like to settle down in either UK or Canada. Where do you think I should apply to for an undergraduate program in business. possibly even econ but my sl math scores are the greatest. My current predicted grades are (I haven't taken the transcript but I asked my teachers for the grades): HL Business Management - 6 HL English Language & Literature - 5 HL ITGS - 5 SL Math - 4 SL French Ab Initio - 5 SL ESS - 5 Haven't finished the TOK essay …

Hello, I'm an IB student finishing IB this year. I've came across this decision on which advice would be highly appreciated. I had a wish to study medicine at UK, but actually missed the deadline of UCAT tests. (yes I'm that stupid) And truly all universities I wanted to apply to require UCAT. My question is how bad it would be to take a gap year and than try to enter medicine at UK university? I would obviously work on volunteering or jobs at clinics to spend the gap year usefully. I'm just scared of how badly could it decrease my chance of getting a place at a university after a gap year? Thank you so much for any opinions or advices

Hello everyone, I'm stuck in quite a bit of a dilemma here. I currently do the IB Diploma programme and within it, I do the these subjects: HL: Business Management, History, English A Language & Lit SL: Spanish a.b, Chemistry, Mathematics And here's the problem: I would like to pursue a Finance degree at uni in 2020 and many of the top unis require me to have Math HL in order to be considered and well, as you can see, I study Math SL. So I looked at unis like the London School of Economics among others but have found a Financial Economics course at St. Andrews university in Scotland. I know that this uni is very high accredited in the UK but that may be just for c…

I want to study theoretical physics in the UK, and I am having trouble figuring out a best fit university for my predicted score. My predicted score hasn't been published yet...but my grades seems to pointing towards a 35 which includes a 7 (physics HL), 6 (maths HL), 5 (Buisness HL), 6 (french ab initio) and 5 (english SL), with B in EE and C in TOK... so in total 37 point. But when I search up.. universities with the course I want to consider... I do have a range of options, satisfying the 37 point mark, but when I look at the HL, requirement, it says you must have 766, or 666. Which is quite impossible for me to get... cuz I am absolutely weak at buisness HL, and ther…

So I really underperformed in my IB exams and I tried calling places but they only base it of entry requirements. I feel like at this time, it's early clearing so they only accept students who've made the entry requirements but later on during the real "clearing" time in mid-August when the A-level results come out, will universities be more lenient with entry requirements? Like if there are to have more vacancies, could top Russell Universities just fill out vacancies regardless of any grades? For now, I'm looking at a course in Sheffield University and I am two points low(if I get my exams remarked then one), do you reckon they may offer me a place?

I got two conditional offers from UCL and I accepted them for my firm choice (chemical engineering) and insurance choice (pharmacy). I didn’t meet the requirements of that offers as I got 4 in Maths HL but I have already emailed UCL asking them whether they’d still consider my application. Do you know how much can it take for them to respond and how big are the chances that they will accept me???

I just need to rant, I got rejected from the University of Edinburgh, my dream uni with a 42 776 higher level. At first, I was disappointed, but when i found out that my close friend got into the exact same course as I wanted to on a 34! HE GOT IN ON A 34 AND I GOT REJECTED ON A 42!!! its a broken system, a broken unethical system that rewards those who are willing to pay more. What's the point in having the government set up price ceilings for universities if they're just going to offer places to people who are willing to accept the people who are going to pay more, at the expense of the more qualified students. Im absolutely livid

Most UK universities put up their entry requirement in UCAS and the IB points that they put up includes the TOK, EE & the actual exam. If I use my predicted score to start my applications, that doesn't include EE or TOK, would I still be able to apply and get an offer with a predicted score few points lower than what is required by the university.

I was thinking of 5 university options; Durham, Noting-ham, Birmingham, King's Colledge and Aberystwyth universities. These unis seems pretty mid-range, do all these unis offer unconditional offers. If not, which universities in the uk do?

I will be doing the PAT examination for Oxford next year on October 2019, as a DP 2 student. **currently I am in DP 1. Would PAT examinations be difficult to deal with as IB physics and math student? By the time I am in DP2, I myself would be familiar with a lot of rigorousness of the physics and math hl course, would that help me out for my PAT exams??

I am returning back here after a long time to seek some advice. I am looking for universities with a 3.2 GPA (American) that offer scholarships to EU nationals. Anyone in a similar position or has been studying/studied with a great program that they'd recommend? Cheers!

Hello, I have heard that for UCAS, if you apply for a MEng course and fail to meet the offer requirements, then universities will give you an offer for a BEng, if your score would meet the BEng requirements. Is that true? Thanks!

Hi guys, I am in a huge dilemma. I am currently doing my first year of IB in Denmark and I have an aspiration to study medicine in the UK. I am currently taking the following subjects: - Biology HL - English A Lang & Lit. HL - Danish B HL - History SL - Chemistry SL - Math Studies SL I know that in Danish universities, it is perfectly okay to take gap years and supplement a level in one of your subjects to get into the university you want to. I have come to learn that Chemistry HL is quite important to get into a med school in the UK. However, I feel that I will not be able to pass with acceptable points in the IB if I take Chem…

Hello i am new here I just screwed up my IB exam with 24 points total and just scraped a diploma. The universities i applied for is Leicester (30 points) and Hull (28 points). I was originally predicted 28 points. My parents want me to go for a foundation course and they are really really pissed. I’m just doing my UCAS application and for quite a few weeks now have gotten stuck on the uni choice (applying for a physics course). I’m predicted 37 points without bonus points and 6,6,5 (hl physics, chemistry and maths respectively). So far I was thinking St. Andrews, Manchester, Bath, nottingham and Leicester. But I’m not sure whether these are the most appropriate. Does anyone have any advice on better suited choices or about the physics courses and life in general at these unis?

Hi, I am sorry if what I am about to ask has been discussed ad nauseam, I couldn't really find the answer to my question anywhere. I am looking at getting a degree in Chemistry from schools in England (Oxbridge, Bath, etc.) and I am consistently seeing how Chemistry HL and Math HL is a requirement to get into these programs. Problem is, my school doesn't offer HL Chem + Math. Instead, I am taking Physics HL and Bio HL with Math SL because those are the most difficult classes my school offers that is relevant to Chemistry (for clarity, I am taking English Lang&Lit SL, History of America HL, Physics HL, Bio HL, Spanish SL, and Math SL, as well as Science Research …

I have the UMAT in a few days and I'm not entirely sure about it. I know you need HL Chem to study in the UK but I don't do it. I'm willing to change but Chemistry is difficult for me at times. I am not sure if our school has registered our IB subjects yet. They said they were about to. Can you amend registrations? Also, if I decide to do it, do I have a chance at doing well in the BMAT? I haven't prepared at all but I hear that Section 1 is kind of similar to UMAT. I do Maths Studies so I don't know if I am at a disadvantage. As an Australian student, would my predicted grade be used or my real grade?

Hi, I'm currently looking into top UK universities that offer Physics, and I feel lost so I'm making a post. Obviously, Cambridge and Oxford are high up there, but I'm also interested in the reception of Physics courses. Grades aren't an issue, I'm just looking for all options. I'm also quite interested in Philosophy, so a course such as Physics & Philosophy would be a dream. However I haven't been able to find much information on courses such as Physics & Philosophy, so I would greatly appreciate any information there is :). If anyone could redirect me to sites that offer more details I would love it. Thanks!!

I'm a month into IB and my classes so far are: HL Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Arabic B; SL Economics and English LL. However, I've been rethinking what I want to do in the future and have been moving away from engineering/physics towards more Maths and computer science. If I decide to drop chemistry for comp sci, my schedule will be as follows: HL Maths, Physics, English LL; SL Comp Sci, Economics, Spanish AB. My school doesn't offer computer science Higher Level. I'm worried that this setup is not as strong as the first one with regards to me applying for mathematics at Oxford. Also, without CS HL, there is no way I can apply for CS at Oxford and be taken seriously. T…
