Hi all IB survivors, I am currently a senior-to-be, but I am still feeling really confused about the major I am going to take in college. I have been thinking major in bio or other medical-related majors in UK. But i heard it is really hard for international student to get into those majors in UK. Is that true?( Cause they have quota or smt like that. Also I'm interested in arts, so I really couldn't make up my mind what to study.

Hi Is anyone else doing the LNAT? How do you study (if you do study at all)? What's a good score? Are you doing it in your Junior or Senior year?

If I've got the info right, universities make offers based on individual HL subject performance as well as total score. What I'm wondering is, does that mean standard level subjects are not taken into account at all? In terms of university application. I went ahead and picked the subjects I thought I'd enjoy, but now I'm considering switching out a of them for less workload-intensive ones. History with ESS maybe? I hear Eng L&L is easier than Lit too. Would it make a difference? Thanks

Hi guys! As I'm typing this, you're all receiving your results. Some will be elated, some will be devastated, some will be relieved, and some will not know today is results day. I'm from Singapore, and will be going to Oxford (Queens' College) this October, and wanted to know if anyone else is going to Oxford. It's a totally new country for me (apart from a particular sandwich shop...I practically memorized my way there). So, it'd be really great if I got to meet some, in a way, familiar faces there. I'm hoping we could maybe get a little group going on, and meet there whenever the reporting day is. At least we'll know some people before we're even there! So ye…

Today I got my results, and Bristol was my insurance which asked for a 32 with 6 in French and 6 in Music for my course (Joint Honours in French and Music). I got a 38 with a 6 in French, but unfortunately I got a 5 in Music. I can't call Bristol till Monday, but I was wondering if anyone knows about Bristol accepting students who have missed their offer? I am applying as an international student, just in case that makes any difference? (I don't know) Thanks!

Hey y'all, I'll complete my IB Diploma in May 2016 and my guidance counsellor recommended that I start looking at universities now. The courses I'll try to get into are Economics (LSE) and PPE (Oxford). What scores would usually get me into these schools? I currently have top marks at an academically challenging private school, play two sports (one 1st team for our school); in addition I am involved in different school activities and do community service/ service trips. I'll be taking HL Mathematics and HL Economics, so what marks would usually be required in these courses? Thanks a lot, Luisa

Hi I'm a first year IB student taking: Art HL English Lit HL Physics HL Maths SL History SL French SL There are three potential subjects I want to study at university: Art History, Philosophy and Fine Art. I'm predicted 43-45 points at the moment - but I was wondering do Universities care about Maths if it's not at all related to your course? It's not that I find maths difficult, rather are teacher sets us 2-3 hours of repetitive questions every other day, time I'd rather spend reading or doing something else. I'm predicted a 6 or 7, but it's the work load our teacher puts on us that is just time wasted for me. So will the top universities look down on Maths Studies whe…

Good morning! I want to study medicine at oxford university in a couple of years. I'm currently 16 years old. I just received a letter home telling me that I got into IB and now I'm struggling with what subjects to choose for my upcoming 3 years. (Here in sweden IB is 3 years). I know that i can get a fullmark on the IB score because I graduated with the highest grades possible. Now I'm thinking of applying to oxford and therefore I will bust my behind of to make sure I get that spot. But I know that there are many more components that will determined your destiny of getting into oxford , personal statement, interview and what you do outside of studying. I'm thinking of …

Hey, everyone! So I am an Indonesian student and I want to apply for Psychology major in UK for next year. I am now taking Math SL and wonder will it be a problem if I drop it to Math Studies? My teacher had suggested that if we want to take psychology in uni we better drop to studies because they study much more about statistics there than in SL, but, lots of my friends said that most universities in UK won't accept if you're taking math studies. I kinda struggle in doing Math SL and I've been considering to drop to studies, but because of what lots of my friends said, I am not dropping to studies.I know it depends on what universities I'm thinking of applying, and one …

I've just started the International Baccalaureate, and I'm quite passionate about the subjects Philosophy, Politics and Economics. However, I am worried that my subject combination might prevent me from getting in, as I am not studying History or Mathematics at higher level (as I believe they recommend on the Oxford website.) My subjects are: HL Economics HL Art HL English HL Physics (probably going to drop to Standard Level) SL Maths SL Spanish ab initio Ignoring the other factors (intelligence, passion for your subject etc.) that contribute to being accepted by Oxford, would these subjects allow me to be accepted into Philosophy, Politics and Economics?

I'm interested in writing the BMAT test this November. I was wondering what universities consider to be an acceptable or good BMAT score. I tried looking at the requirements posted on university websites but there are no specific numbers. I am not sure if this would help, but the university that I am considering is Manchester. I would greatly appreciate if someone would be able to provide some insight. Thank you in advance.

Hey all, I am an european student, but have been studying in the UK for the past 4 years. In my IB (2013 may) I chose English Lit+Lang A HL and achieved a grade 6. Now my question is the following: When applying to UK universities I got a conditional offer. The condition is IELTS 6.5. Shouldn't be a problem, but I always though that a grade 6 in English A would make this unnecessary. Am I right? Thank you!

Hello! I'm in the process of replying to my offers in UCAS (need to do so by June 5th), but I don't quite understand the terms they use. I've asked the unis and they keep directing me to their webpages and to UCAS but I just can't seem to get it.. I thought that perhaps someone here's done it before and could help, that'd be great in that case Say I decid to make uni A my firm choice and uni B my insurance, and once I get my grades in July it turns out I met the requirements for uni A. What happens then? Does meeting the requirements of your firm choice mean you have the place straight away with no alternatives and no chance of saying "yes" on last time (i.e. once you …

Hi everyone! I had a few doubts about choosing my firm and insurance choice for Civil Engineering (BEng) in UCAS and would like your input. I have received offers from UCL, Bath, City, and Brunel. As you can tell, 3 of my schools are in London and the other one is Bath. I am a person that wants to live in London because I enjoy the urban and metropolitan life and the busy life that London has to offer as opposed to a smaller town or city like Bath. I have visited Bath and I have been to London many times (around 10). I have family in London and being close to family is always important for me. Keeping in mind that UCAS only lets you apply to 5 universities, I'm trying to figure out whether it will be worth applying to Oxford for Experimental Psychology; or in other words, do I stand a chance? I'm quite aware that my IGCSE's are sub-par, however, personal circumstances in Year 11 meant that I did not perform to the best of my ability. Considering that my IB predicted score proves that I am capable enough to manage at Oxford, does it make sense for me to apply? And if I do apply, will writing an Extenuating Circumstances Form explaining my low grades in Year 11 affect my application negatively (I've heard rumours that it does)? My IGCSE grades: English Lang A* …

Hello, I was wondering if I really have a chance studying physics in a good university (especially with a scholarship) if I am taking the following subjects. Please do note that my school only offers these subjects so I have no other option to choose from, which is very frustrating and the main reason why I doubt universities such as Oxford could consider me for a scholarship, assuming I actually get in. Language and Literature (Spanish) HL English A HL History HL Chemistry SL Mathematical Studies SL Economics SL Most, if not all, require IB students to take Physics HL and Mathematics HL and obviously my school doesn't offer me those subjects, not even Math SL. Therefore,…

Hi everybody! A while ago, I received the last reply from the unis I applied to. The offers I got are from St Andrews (36 points) and Durham (38, 666 at HL). Though, I got rejected from Cambridge - and I'd really love to study there. I think I do have rather strong chances of getting in (how modest of me! ). I was pretty unlucky this year (had some health problems which got in the way) and my application ended up a bit below my expectations. I had predicted 42 points overall, but with 667 at HL (including 6 from the subject I chose to study). Apart from that, I think I screwed up my interview So I guess I could just get over it (I mean rejection from Cabridge) and c…

So as summer draws near, so does summer holiday plans.... Heard and read from various places that IB1 summer should be spent productively. Completely agree. With EE, IAs and IB2 right up our necks we should treasure each and every moment of summer. As I am an international student and have only visited the UK in the summer of 8th grade, of which i only retain vague memories, I am considering the option of going for a university tour in the UK to check out universities and hopefully to talk to admissions officers. It is quite pricey for our family and does take up time, so I am not so certain about going. If any one can provide insights of the benefits of going to a uni…

I am just about to finish my IB after the final examinations this May. Unfortunately I am not good at predicting my grades as they change quite a lot. Basically, I have applied to 5 universities in UK via UCAS which are approximately in my point range and got all the offers, but I am now thinking that I can do better... I really do regret not choosing at least one that is ranked much higher and has slightly higher entry requirements. If I happen to get a really good IB score, if I contact the university right away during the summer, is there a chance that they will let me apply and possibly start courses in September/October of 2014? If not, will I be able to apply manual…

I'm interested in applying to Cambridge for either Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Natural Sciences, but I have a dilemma. At Cambridge for UK full IB students, they need a 776 for certain science and math courses at HL, but unlike most UK schools, my public high school in the US only has a small amount of IB courses. I'm in Physics, Math, and Chemistry, but my school doesn't offer Math HL or Physics HL, so the only course I have that meets the requirements is Chemistry HL. Thus my question is: due to me being an international student, will I still be reviewed for my course selection under the UK standards for full IB students and do I have any grounds since my scho…

Hey everyone, Long story short, I am currently taking 4 higher level subjects; Physics, Math, Chemistry and English B. I am interested in applying to oxbridge, however, I have been told by my teachers that 4 higher level subjects are a waste of time. They said that the university will look at only 3 of them and not care about the fourth one. So is this true? would Oxford-Cambridge appreciate the fact that I have taken 4 higher level subjects or am I wasting my time? Thanks in advance

Hi! The university I want to apply says that entry requirements are 6/6/6 from HL subjects. Sadly, I think that my predicted grades will be 5/6/7. Will they at least consider my application or will they simply reject it because the grades are too low? Is there any possibility that they would give me a conditional offer if they like everything else?? Or should I not even try to apply? Any answers will be much appreciated, so thanks in advance.

Hi everyone! Now that we're all getting our offers, we have to finally decide on where we really want to go. I've just gotten an offer from LSE for international relations, and now I am confronted with the fact that I am so torn between all the academic opportunities in London, and the quaint and social atmosphere of Durham. For the past few days I've been researching around, and still can't seem to compare the two, seeing as they're polar opposites in nearly every way! Though Durham is quite small, there's the collegiate system which means that everyone seems to be given a chance to participate in sports and arts if they wish. There are loads of activities you can do …

Hello guys, I'm in the process of applying to universities in Scotland at the moment. I am applying to International Relations courses. However, my mother has been urging me quite persistently to apply to something else instead. To her, studying International Relations with law/modern languages at university is a complete waste of time which will not get me a well-paid job in the end. She insists that I direct my attention to Law courses instead. My question is - what do you think? Will I be able to get a job afterwards? Should I follow her advice? Any tips/advice will be of great help as I'm generally really confused atm. Thank you!
