For IB Math SL, do we have to complete two IA's? Also, from the two IA's does one have to be from type 1 and the other from type 2? Thank you!

I have a couple questions about SL math... so, I'm currently in the course and just got our first IA back and um...kinda failed it..but this was our teacher's mark, so is it going to change? I mean, it still needs to get moderated, right? I'm so confused on this whole process :$ Also, if I get a 7 on the exam, what is the minimum /40 score required to get atleast a level 6 for the course? Thanks

Hey guys, this is probably a stupid question, but i really suck at math So if anyone cold help me out with this question, would be great! Having these equations: 204= a(52)^3+b(52)^2+c(52)+d(1) 216= a(60)^3+b(60)^2+c(60)+d(1) 224= a(68)^3+b(68)^2+c(68)+d(1) 225= a(76)^3+b(76)^2+c(76)+d(1) Simplified: 204= a(140608)+b(2704)+c(52)+d 216= a(216000)+b(3600)+c(60)+d 224= a(314432)+b(4624)+c(68)+d 225= a(438976)+b(5776)+c(76)+d how do i find the parameters(with my gdc) ? Thanks for your help!

I have a question about portfolios. Should they have a table of contents? If a table of contents is necessary or beneficial, how could you split up a type II modeling task into appropriate sections? Thanks

So, I'm currently working on the type II internal Assessment for Math SL. I'm not really that great at these type of assignments, I have a hard time reading and understanding the questions being asked. So far I have used LoggerPro to graph the information at hand, and have found three different formulas that each pertain to a certain quality of the data. That is what I'm supposed to do, right? If someone could please explain to me exactly what the question is asking me, that would be really really great. Below is a pdf of the paper, and on the back are my notes on the three functions I'm using. IA page 1.pdf IA page 2.pdf

If i use the internet, and I actually found a site that explained the whole math IA, can I use it as a source? Would I get in trouble if I used it and referenced it in the IA?

I was wondering whether we have to know how to do integration by substitution. I have seen questions that require this method in old past papers (but very rare). I want to ask if we need to learn it for May 2013 examination?

I have missed my internal assessment deadline for a type 1 assignment (Lascap) set by the school. I had handed in the assignment a few days later yet they would not give it a grade. I was wondering if this is officially aloud because the IB deadline is not until much later? Or am I aloud to request to do the other Type 1 internal assessment (Circles)? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I wanted to ask, how do you guys study maths for tests? Because we get past papers as test but at home I can't do them as the test is usually few weeks after we start the topic obviously, and I don't remember the beginings. So I go back to the book, go through everything once again and then: 1. I don't have time to do past papers 2. I'm sick of maths As a result, I kinda fail on tests because past papers are harder than excercises in our book (what sense does it make?!) and I waste a lot of time on studying anyway... I know I should probably revise after every lesson but that's not really doable due to the workload and the fact that we both try to finish the syllabus …

I know there is already a thread on it, but my IA is due tomorrow , i started on thursday and haven't done much. So far i analyzed the graph and thought it was a 5th grade polynomial, but when i used excels trend function the new graph had millions of curves so i thought it was like an 8th degree polynomial. Then i plotted it on graphmatica and used the fit curve function and it resembled a 3rd degree polynomial. I lurked the existing thread but got lost since there are so many propositions going on. I've written nearly 10 pages of analysis and i am so far away from getting a formula, and our teacher asked for 4 formulas I tried transforming the data to smaller numbers a…

Hello people, math exams are comming up soon so I came up with an idea for us to share what WE think will come up this year on the paper, as You know the IB examiners do not spend much time creating questions and mainly end on previous ones. Haha. WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL BE ON THE TEST THIS YEAR ?? PS. I know this may be lame but it helps to reduce. Believe me!!!

Hey, I have started the Gold Medal Heights Type II Portfolio and I was wondering what the mark scheme meant by "applies the model to other situations", I'm not sure how I would do this in the IA. I was also wondering what the IA meant by "parameters" and "possible constraints". The portfolio is in the PDF. Thank you! portofolio tasks for 2012 2013 SL.pdf

Hello fellow IB Students, I need help with my EE in math sl.tp I have decided to do my EE in math sl based on probability, but I can't seem to find a suitable reserch question or an idea to get me started. I was thinking about choosing something that involves poker or a card game. Lately I have been looking a bit moreinto the Monty Hall problem and I found it intersting but I don't know if it is suitable for an EE. Any help at all would be appreciated, suggestions, sites to read about probability problems or even some video clips to watch. I apologize if my Enlgish is a bit sloppy, it is 2am and I am exhausted. -André

Hi everyone! Luckily, I have a few days more to finish my first Maths portfolio. My god how the time flies - it was a few days ago when we got the assignments and now I'm sitting behind a desk with a cup of coffee... Anyways, back to my question: We've been given data regarding population at a specific period of time. There is a specific point in the assignment that goes something like this: A researcher suggests that the population, P at the time t can be modelled by P(t) = K / (1+Le-Mt) where K, L, and M are parameters It is my job to estimate and interpret K, L and M. I'm not quite the independent thinker in Maths and I'm stuck with this one. If anyone has tips h…

I am an all-rounder but with an exception in Maths, even though I can manage it, but still it just get on my nerves. Actually I want to take Math Studies because it would be easier on my part. However, I'm afraid that if I take Math Studies (and I am on search for good universities in UK and will be looking forward to apply in international undergraduate scholarship) the universiti…

Found this guy on youtube who's uploaded educational vids on SL math, he covers every topic (1-7). They are 'review' videos, but he is very clear in explaining concepts and his working in example questions, he is straight and to the point. Found it very helpful for revision, thought I'd share. Not sure if its as easy to understand for those not yet already familiar with the topic in question. http://www.youtube.com/user/mathsl1

When finding general statements, are recursive definitions acceptable? I didn't use a calculator or excel to find the general statements but they are recursive definitions (Un=Un-1 + x kind of definitions). Would it be a problem if my general statements were of this kind?
