Hello everyone... thank you for taking your time to read this simple post. My problem is that when using the Ti 83 plus silver edition, I can´t graph the logistic function I´ve found. Could anyone please find what is the problem and please teach me how to graph it... I already inserted the function and enabled graphing.

Hello everyone I am gonna be an IB student next year. I know IB HL maths is extremley challenging since I have some friends of mine who have done it and have struggled for 2 years. Considering the fact that I am in core mathematics in IGCSE, students usually do maths studies instead. But, due to our limited numbers in school, our maths co-ordinator is allowing some of us to join SL maths. I was wondering if any of you out there have done it?? and do you recommend it or studies better? I can accept a few challenges and can definitley work hard in order to achieve my goals, however i am really interested in your guys's opinions. Thank you

Hello, I am looking for someone to instruct me on the ti-nSpire regarding statistics. It would be perfect if this person had skype. I am having really big trouble with this topic on my calculator and all the teachers at my school use the ti-84 so I am really alone with this issue I know this is a lot to ask, but if anyone could help me I would be enormously grateful. Thank You Matt

As I understand the Gaussian function is y=ae^(-(x-b)^2)/c^2)+d If that is true, how exactly do I determine the coefficients (a,b,c,d)?

Olio, guys Hey, I need some thoughts or a bit of guidance about the induction thing. I have a function with two variables: one describes the dependent points on a curve, the next transforms the curve as a coefficient would do, or sth like that. I wish to prove that it fits any of the related data, in other words, prove it is the one. Any thoughts, suggestions on how to start and what functional steps to take? Thank you. In advance ^^

So...I've just solved the whole stellar-number IA paper, and now I just need to start writing the report. But where to start? The teacher never gave us any guidelines... Is there any specific format of writing the IA, aside from the introduction and conclusion? And oh, what should we include in the introduction? Thanks a lot for the help.

So I found out i got low 80s/90 on both my papers, thinking I'd get a 7 but instead I get a 6. I came to the conclusion that it was the 24/40 on the math IA's that brought me down . Anyone know if we can redo and resubmit our math ia's in our graduating year?

Hi, I have been experiencing a lot of problems qith my TI nspire calculator when doing statistics. I can't find a lot of functions, one of them being the standard deviation. I put numbers in a list and what should I do to calculate standard deviation? I use the one-variable statistics but then I don't really see the difference between that and the two-variable statistics. Thanks

How does one go about describing the steps you took to developing the functions in paragraph form? Is it acceptable to use a "First" "Next" "Then" format? Or do they want a more fluid writing structure? Or does it even matter?

Hi, I have this problem with one exercise. Its in the "Mathemathics Standard Level for the IB Diploma" book by Smedley and Wiseman (oxford is the publisher) - maybe someone will find this helpful Anyway, these are exercises 9 through 15 on page 259. The content is like this: In question 9 - 15 prove each of the given identities. 9. 2cos2x - cos2x (triple equal sign o,O) 1 10. 2cos3x + sin2xsinx (triple equal sign o,O)2cosx 15. 1/(cosx+sinx) + 1/(cosx-sinx) (triple equal sign o,O) 2cox/cos2x How do I solve this? Thank you for the trouble, Matt

Hi I have this dilemma about the radian/degree settings in the Ti-nSpire calculator. In the old, Ti-84 there was only one setting I think but here you actually have three different places where you can modify this. Why is it so? Which setting should I use? I though that the main one, the one after pressing 5,2,1 on the main screen is like the mother-setting but then it came out that its not always enough to change this one only. And another thing - can I change the radian/degree mode while in scratchpad or a document? Going back to the main display is just really time consuming Thanks Matt

I recently recieved my grade for the IA's I did in math recently. I got a 33/40 (15/20 and 18/20) from my teacher and mine was the highest in my school so it is being sent in. Is this a good grade? What are the chances that it will be graded down?

Are the graphs to be drawn on the lined or graph paper? If it's not a graphing question but rather just drawing a rough sketch to show working should the graph be done beside your answer (on the lined paper) or on a separate sheet of graph paper? Sorry, really nick picky questions.

We have a new IB math teacher and a new IB coordinator at my school; there is some discrepancy between whether or not we receive the entire math SL booklet (that contains all the formulas for all the topics) or whether we just receive the presumed knowledge page (alone with distribution graphs for stats). I'd like the answer for both papers. Thank you!

So exams are this week and we haven't even reviewed or even finished learning the content for math. Our last class with him is tomorrow and then those who can are staying after to get further in the content. Of course, this has me completely freaking out. I'm not even completely sure as to how the papers look and what's the difference between the two? So any just tips on studying or just something to help calm my nerves would help, thank you.

g'day, just been doing past papers since the exam is this week! i've had a little hiccup with some of the following problems any help would be much appreciated; ++1. Consider the curve y=ln(3x-1). Let P be the point on the curve where x = 2 (a) write down the gradient of the curve at P. (b) the normal to the curve at P cuts the x-axis at R. Find the coordinates of R. I can do A without any problem really y'(2) = 1/(3x-1) * Dx = 1/(3x-1) * 3 = 3/(3x-1) = 3/(3(2)-1) = 3/17 i know that the normal is the negative reciprocal of the slope of the tangent and i understand that i must integrate the tangent and solve for X to find the coordinates of R but i am confused as how to go…

In this question, a unit vecot represents a displacement of 1 metre. Am miniature car moves in a straight line, starting at the point (2,0). after t seconds, its position, (x,y), is given by the vector equation: (x,y)=(2,0)+t(0.7, 1) a) how far from the point (0,0) is the car after 2 seconds? b) find the speed of the car c) obtain the equation of the car's path in the form ax+by=c. Another miniature vehicle, a motorcycle, starts at the point (0, 2), and travels in a straight line with a constant speed. The equation of the path is: y=0.6x +2 (x is greater than or equal to 0) Evantually, the two miniature vehicles collide. d) find the coordinates of the collision point. e)…

Long story cut short: my maths teacher is an idiot. He taught us nothing about using GDCs. I can't use it for any stats, quartiles, normal distributions, etc. etc. I don't want to fail paper 2. My calc is Casio FX-9750GII Please, can anyone refer me to a web-site/user-guide that will explain how to use the GDC in plain English? I've tried the 400-page+ user manual from casio - I feel like Pasis Hilton when I read it. Please-please, anyone help - this issue can result in my losing my university place. Thanks.

Hi, I was working through an exam problem(May 2009 P1) and I have a question.... Basically the problem is worth 6 marks. You're given a function, f(x)=e^x cosx and need to find the gradient of the normal to the curve of f at x=π (pi). So I used the product rule to differentiate and then substituted π. I simplified the answer which gave -e^π and I left that as an answer. However it says that you should take negative reciprocal -1/f'(π) which results in the gradient being 1/e^π. Why do we need to take the negative reciprocal? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I was wondering if any of you have good revision notes, topic outlines, examples (I would greatly appreciate anything, really!) that would save help me(and the rest of my class) for the Math SL Exam. We're the first IB class my teacher has taught and she's pretty new with the whole IB curriculum. She is quite disorganized in comparison to my other IB teachers and I believe we have insufficient notes/examples to help us for the SL exam. According to her, we still haven't done some of the curriculum. Furthermore, we've tried practice exams and we barely knew anything!-and in less than a month, we'll be writing in the exam room. Yes I know if we really study it shoul…

I need some tips how to achieve the highest possible grade in SL Maths... I know everyone has their own ways but maybe there's some techniques I haven't thought off... I'm currently doing past exam papers ocr revision guide - solving more questions looking at the topics I find difficult (from the past exam papers etc) - watching tutorials/doing more exam questions from that topic re-doing the exam papers I doubt note taking will help for maths. PS: I'm not very confident with GDC, and I wonder if there are any good websites that can help you with that?

I have a question specifically about Math SL calculus part- do we have to know how to sketch the graph of function basing on the first and second derivative, like the points of inflection, local and global maxima/minima, or vertical tangents and cusps.? or is it just enough to draw it with the aid of GDC.? I mean, can specifically sketching a function with those derivatives and all features can happen on paper 1.?

Yeah, so does anyone have access to past exam papers? I really need them to study and get a grasp on things. Preferably the ones from 2008 which was when they started the new syllabus. I already have in my possession the 2008 May one from Freeexampapers.com but I was wondering whether or not there are other ones? The other exam papers in freeexampapers.com did not have the mark scheme and I want to know what I did wrong on a question.

I want to know how to write the coverpage, if it should be in MLA format, double spaced, etc. Our teacher was considerate enough NOT to tell us this. I've heard there should be an introduction and conclusion. Is this basically a summary of what the portfolio is about? I've searched all over the internet for the answer to this, and found nothing.
