  1. I graduated IB in 2018 and studied Math HL with discrete math as my option. I also wrote my EE in mathematics / physics and received an A. I'm currently studying programming / computer science and game design. I replied to a post a few years ago about writing Math IAs where I gave some advice and talked about my paper and a lot of people requested copies of my IA for reference. I've heard that with the covid situation and online learning a lot of people are facing some challenges with their research and are doing explorations based on previous students' work etc. With that in mind I thoug
  2. My EE RQ is due soon and my question so far is "To what extent did WWII lead to the decolonization of India?" But I've been told that's not specific enough. Can someone help making it more specific? I thought of "To what extent did WWII lead to the British Decolonization of India by 1947?" But I dont know.
  3. Hey guys I'm doing a history EE on the south african apartheid, my question is already approved and I have some points to talk about I just want to know if they are good/if I forgot anything import To what extent was Nelson Mandela responsible for the transition from apartheid to democracy in South Africa by 1995? Although Nelson Mandela served a profound impact in the process of transitioning apartheid to democracy, other factors played an equal if not more profound role in the transition. Other Factors I'll talk about: During the 1980 sustained protests,
  4. Hey guys, I finished my Y1 with IB and this summer I've been trying hard to finalize my topic for the EE. I know it's a little late not to have a topic so I reeaaallllyyy need your help on this I'm thinking of writing one on bitcoin but I don't know which IB economics concepts would apply. I'm specifically interested in the risks of bitcoin and how it will impact the economy in the future. I could look at the determinants of demand in the case of bitcoin, or talk about price levels, but I'm not sure whether those would work. I guess bitcoin is related to money supply, but how would I g
  5. Hello there! I've been thinking hard about my Geo EE and I'm pretty lost. I'm Malaysian, and I will be spending almost the whole summer there, near the capital, Kuala Lumpur, so I have to do my research there. But I'll also be going to Penang, which is famous for tourism and food. So the ideas that I had are: i) Are the street stalls near big houses representative of income disparities? ii) A comparison of jobs and incomes in a higher level residential area and lower income residential area, which are close by to each other iii) There are three primaries schools in one town: a Malay one, a Tam
  6. Hey guys, i'm writing my EE on The Cognitive Theory of Attraction and i'm struggling to find sources. Can anyone help? Thank you!
  7. Hello Guys, this is my first post here. It's a very nice community to have. I need help on my EE specific topic from the general topic of the side effects of gaming. My first research question, which was destined to be rejected the first moment I decided, was: To what extent are the researches about violence caused by gaming true? The teacher said that I can use "To what extent does gaming cause violence" To which I modified it to, "To what extent do violent video games cause violence" And then, again the teacher said: that I need to rephrase it to a better question. But then, she sent me link
  8. Hi! I'd really love to use the Y/A novel solitaire by Alice Osseman for my extended essay, I think the themes of the book are complex enough to count however I'm not sure if I'm allowed to use it Any advice would be great
  9. I had a physics EE topic in mind of the effect of heat on buoyancy of various liquids. Is this a topic worthy of an extended essay? I also had another topic in mind but my teacher said it was more appropriate for the Physics IA, which was, comparing the value of g obtained using a bifilar pendulum with the value of g obtained using a simple pendulum.
  10. Hello, For long story short, I'm currently trying to come up with an EE question. I really would like to do something on the feminist movement in the 60s, but I don't really know how to formulate a question. For some extra context, I was maybe going to try to focus specifically on the reproductive rights aspect of the feminist movement (ex. increased access to birth control, abortion, etc.) but I don't know if focusing on an aspect like that would make my essay too narrow? If anyone could help that would be really appreciated because as I'm standing now i'm stuck at a roadblock.
  11. I read somewhere that i need to have credible sources and like published journals or whatever. I honestly don't know how to check the credibility of my sources, can anyone help? Thank you
  12. I'm doing my EE in psych, and i've hit writers block and i don't know if my RQ is too broad. Here's my RQ: 'Do socio-cognitive theories influence digital romantic practices on social media?' Plus my first draft deadline is in 9 days. HELP!
  13. hi there, I am a pre-ib student, I start ib1 in a couple months but want to get a good grasp on the course before I even start. I have picked all my subjects but one thing that irks me is the ee (extended essay). I am looking into different topics at the moment and I found one that could be really interesting, however I am looking to get more opinions and advice on my topic. I am looking into doing a phycology ee and my main focus would be based around, "Is the bond between a mother and a child solely based on psychological need or comfort?" Essentially, do infants only bond with the
  14. Finding good sources for the actual structure of the Economics Extended Essay is incredibly difficult and I'm getting a lot of conflicting info. Some sites say that you should include an "evaluation" section and a "Economic Theory" Section, the IB itself specifically says not to? Does anybody know where I could get an outline specifically for economics that is up-to-date, and not too broad like the general one from the IB? Thanks!
  15. So I need help because I originally had a EE topic that I recently discovered wouldn't work out so I have now been scrambling to come up with a new one. My new basic topic is: The effect of temperature on sound waves. But I need help refining this because I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help would be really appreciated, particularly if: - You have finished a physics EE and have advice - You have knowledge on sound waves and their variables - You have any other ideas for a new direction for this topic - Any related research you know of - etc. Thank you!
  16. I was talking to some of my friends and I told them that my EE was of probability. To be more precise it is of probability on a casino game named craps. My idea was to make an analysis on how the casino always has more chances of winning than the player. My concern is that they told me that this topic is not going to get me a good grade. What do you think?
  17. Hey guys, hope everyone reading this is well. I need some help deciding on my official research question for the EE. I am quite behind on the EE because we have some deadlines coming soon and I have yet to research my topic and question because I cannot formulate a strong research question. My EE topic is on the Hippie movement (history) and my initial research question was "To what extent was the Hippie Movement successful in advocating against violence and war during the 1960s and 1970s?" but relooking at it and after doing some more research I am concerned it is a weak research question. My
  18. Hello, I was wondering if I could get some help regarding my Physics EE? I am examining how changing the mass of a copper plate at the end of a pendulum effects the stopping distance of that plate when passing through a horseshoe magnet directly beneath it. Due to the changing magnetic field the copper plate is temporarily magnetized which generates a secondary magnetic field. This secondary field resists the one that induced it and slows down the copper plate. I am having trouble with my hypothesis and determining what will happen. I was wondering if increasing the mass of the copp
  19. Hello, I'm a student in DP1, studying IB in Germany. I have been using school computers but have decided to buy a personal one for school stuff. Which type of computer would you guys recommend to use for IB?
  20. Hey guys, I've decided to get started on my EE draft and I chose a new topic because I felt that the previous topic was a bit too narrow. My previous topic was, "What are the effects of immigration on the price of houses in the Scarborough region?" and I had started on that draft but soon I felt that I was going nowhere with that topic. I decided to refine my topic and I was wondering if you guys could give input on whether or not I should narrow it down a bit more. My new topic is, "How has changes in Toronto's housing market affected the price of houses in the Scarborough-Guildwood (m

    EE in math?

Would it be smart to write my extended essay in math. I haven't started the ib yet but I was told to just have an idea. I'm gonna do math aa sl and want to write about the probability of a specific event happening. Would that be smart
  22. Hey Guys! I need some help narrowing down my question on the salem witch trial! Here's the research question: How did the Salem witch trials reflect the Americans' point of view on gender and power in the 17th century in the US? I am worried it's a bit too broad and I may have some difficulty exploring every aspect of it. What would you guys recommend? Thank you
  23. Hi =) I'm about to start on my biology EE and I've been researching a suitable question/topic to do it on. My supervisor has suggested I do it based on plants, and I'm following it seeing a safer path. What I have come up with is something like "The effect of common fertilizer vs organic fertilizer" or "The effect of leaf vs root application of water". Can anyone tell me if it sounds too common or if it is better to change it slightly?
  24. I’m in my first year of studying IB and we are starting to do our extended essay. I’m doing mine in Economics about “How COVID-19 has affected the sales of Tesco and Ocado”. I have collected my data that clearly shows COVID-19 has had a positive impact on their sales. However, I’m struggling on what economic reasoning to talk about and was wondering if anyone has any advice.
  25. So I already have lots of sources for my IA and I think I can start reading and actually doing the internal assessment already but I feel overwhelmed by the amount of information. And it's not even that much, I have like six or seven sources, one of them is super long but I guess I can find the most useful part, and the other ones are like 10-20 pages. I just don't know where to start, Reading all the sources and trying to find relevant information to my question seems so difficult, plus I haven't even decided my question. I know more or less how it will be, but my teacher said that it's easie
