Hello guys. I was just talking with my friend about universities of economics. At least compared to a Swedish economical course (pre-uni), IB is so much more thorough. Come to think of it, it's just ridiculous. Anyways, basically I'm curious if an economical university course in England will start from the very beginning of economics. I talked to some from stockholm's school of economics and they hadn't done more in 1 year than I have after 1 year of IB economics.

I am from Indonesia and I just had my exams in may 2012. I got 34 and I am planning to go to Germany for my further studies. However I don't want to take the English language university as it is very expensive. I am really confused on how to apply to universities in Germany. I pass all the requirements from the IBO itself to study in Germany, http://www.ibo.org/country/universities_rec.cfm?country_code=Germany¤t_country=DE I took English B HL Indonesian A HL Math SL Business and Management SL Physics HL Chemistry SL In which all of them pass the requirements. However currently I am studying B2 in Goethe Institut and I already have B1 (ZD) from Goethe Institut. H…

I am currently in my first year of IB but my school requires a Precalculus class as a prerequisite for IB Maths SL or higher, so I am in this class right now and doing IB Maths next year. However, I am doing really badly in this class and I was wondering if I should drop it and do IB Maths Studies instead (which doesn't require a prerequisite). I am planning to go into Medicine or Business in Asia (Singapore, HK) or Australia, not UK or US. Will Maths Studies be sufficient? My subjects are: HL Eng A1 HL Chem HL Bio SL Mandarin B SL Psychology

Hey, I'm new to this forum so I hope this is the right way to ask questions :/ I'm a 14 year old 8th grader, i've been taking math with 11th and 12th graders for a while now and i just finished the Hl math course, did the exams and got a 6. My question is: If I send a certificate with the grade on it and proof that I'm only 14 turning 15 to MIT, could i get a full scholarship (or any sort of scholarship) to go to MIT after i finish school (perhaps only as long as i get a diploma)? Thanks in advance,

So I'm in the second month of my second year in the IB program. I'm a DP student, and I have fairly good marks (predicted a 39). My downfall however, is that I'm in Math Studies. I'm absolutely terrible at math, and I hate it with a passion. So here I am, in Math Studies, which happens to also be my worst mark (pathetic, I know). Business on the other hand, is totally my thing. I got the business award last year, 7's for three consecutive terms, and I've just finished my EE on marketing. HL Business is such a breeze, and I love the content, so now that it's finally time to start applying for university, I want to go into a business faculty. But the dillema now is that uni…

Hi guys, I'm going to bombard you with questions~~ haha, I was just wondering which university is better : UBC, U of T, Mcgill, or HKU. I'm planning to apply for early acceptance for these universities, but I'm not sure of the scores that are required to even have a chance for conditional/unconditional acceptance, as I know the scores on the sites are probably too low. My parents are from HK, so I'm planning to get my ID card right when I graduate in May, so is it possible for me to study in HKU not as a international student? or do I have to live there for 7 years? which I haven't, because I was born and raised in Canada. *edit* And I'd like to state that I am fluent in …

Hey all, just a question on the significance of the entry requirements. I understand that they do need to be met I'm not talking drastic cases like applying to a 40 point university with 33 points.... It's mainly if they will still consider your application if you are a point or two under BUT have a good personal statement, work experience, LNAT as I'm going for law, etc. I'm predicted 37 but I didn't really try in the yr 12 mocks, plus the school messed up a couple of them by putting uncovered topics in them! Breakdown goes HL English 6/HL History 6/HL Philosophy 6/ SL Maths 6/ SL ESS 6/ Japanese SL 5. (+2 generic tok point.) I was one off a 7 in philosophy and they said…

Hi! I've just started the IB programme and I'm interested in studying Psychiatry in the future. In order to do so, I have to study medicine for 4 years before I can start specializing in Psychiatry. I'm interested in studying in the UK or US and I'm wondering what sciences I need to do in IB before I start with undergrad. in one of those countries. Due to classes taught simultaneously this is what I can chose: I can take chemistry HL/SL, Biology(Only at SL), Physics HL/SL (But I can't chose both Physics and Biology). I'm planning on taking Math SL, but I'm currently in Math HL to see how things go. So what sciences should I chose?

Hey guys, I haven't even start the IB yet (2 days left) and I'm already looking into different universities. So I really want to study economics/finance, preferably in Sweden because I live there and the going to Uni is free here. But say that I get 39-40 points from IB, then I would like to study in UK (Warwick,LSE,Durham or any other of the sort) but the problem is that it's SO expensive! I mean 9000 pounds for tuition plus all the living costs. It adds up to about 14000-16000 pounds/year and there is no way I can afford that. I know you can borrow some of the money but still, paying it back will take a lot of time. 16000 pounds/ year for 3 years isn't very cheap... So…

Hey guys, I always knew that I wanted to include economics in my university degree but studying just economics was a bit too theoretical (besides the fact that I don't do Maths HL and wouldn't get into most of the curses) I looked a bit around and found the management course offered by some great universities (LSE, Warwick, etc.) so has anyone some experience with that course and knows what it all involves? I read the course content on the homepage of some universities but couldn't get much out of it. Thanks

I'm doing all my university research right now and I honestly don't know if I'd be able to enjoy a university in the countryside. This is important to me because I want to go to a university where I won't be absolutely fed up with the place in a week, and I'd prefer it if I didn't have to transfer. (It's like moving from New York City to go to a university in Middlebury.) So does anyone have any personal experience on this? How would you know you enjoy the countryside? I can see myself there, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'd be happy.

How long and what will be required to obtain a sufficent mastery of the language? How does the university look upon the IB diploma, what grades will be neccesary to be accepted?

Hi. I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but anyways... It seems that universities require an English test score to prove your proficiency in English. I am confused whether to register for IELTS or TOEFL?? I mean which one is more widely accepted. I don't want to end up doing an exam to just realise that it may not be accepted by some universities. In case you need to know where I am thinking of applying I still don't know but may be Canada, Australia or Europe. And has anyone of you done these tests or is planning to do them?? (And what do you advise, should I do the test as soon as possible or should I wait? Is a lot of preparation required for…

Hi guys, So I wanted to talk to you guys about my issue. I seriously don't know what I'm doing in my life. I first wanted to be a surgeon but I got very discouraged and felt like I wasn't going to become a surgeon, I was put off when I saw real nerds striving to become doctors (they were like studying and getting sevens). I'm more of the outgoing type, I can't put myself to work. Then I wanted to study economics, but dropped the subject because I found it in no way appealing to me. Therefore, I'm stuck and I don't know what to do in my life. I'm in 11th grade. My confidence is very low nowadays, (sorry for being too personal), after my father's passing, 10 months ago, eve…

Hi, I am currently studying at Northeastern University (completed 2 semesters for Economics and Business), but I am looking to transfer. So far I have sent out applications to Erasmus University - Rotterdam School of management (International Business), Tilburg University (International Business), Hult International Business School London (International Business) and I am looking to apply to Bocconi University in Milan for their degree in International Economics, Management and Finance. I have the IB diploma (32 points) and meet the requirements of all the unis, although Bocconi might be a little competitive, as it is the last of three rounds of admission and it is the sh…

Hi, Currently, I am a Pre-IB/ MYP student in Canada. I am interested in pursuing a career in the field of medicine (maybe neuropsychiatry). I do not know which universities to go to for Undergrad, medical school, and residency. I am interested in University of Toronto in Canada, Johns Hopkins in USA, and University of Sydney in Australia in no particular order of how I want to go. My first actual question is: Since I am in IB, is it better to do my Undergrad outside of my home country since IB is international? I was sort of interested in doing Undergrad in my home country then going outside of country for medical school/residency. How should I do this? Secondly, do m…

How much leeway is there for entry requirements?

Hi, So, I got a 34 and was wondering how far I can venture in terms of entry requirements. What I mean is, I can obviously apply to unis that offer 34 or lower but how far can I go the other way? For example, I've taken an interest in St. Andrews but their typical offer for Philosophy seems to be 35. Would there still be a possibility of being considered? If so, how far can I move from 34 (I'm guessing it's about 3 or 4 points?) Thanks

I'm looking at colleges overseas, especially in Germany. I live in the USA now, but used to live in Stuttgart and going to uni in Germany seems like the perfect time to go back. I've "toured" Heidelberg and Tubingen - as in, I walked around the campuses alone because tours weren't being offered - but I don't know if being fluent in German is a requirement to get in. I know that Jacobs in Bremen is one college I'm considering and they have a fluency in English requirement but not a fluency in German requirement. Are there any others with similar language standards?

So I am having a real hard time to narrow down what I want to study at uni. I know that either way it will involve a lot of math, as that is what I enjoy the most. I guess the question is, can you get jobs outside of academia with math and/or physics degrees? I don't feel like I want to be stuck at university for my whole life, and that is why I'm not sure which one to pick. Any help?

I have starting studying though not only just doing my homework. So is this a reasonable aspiration? I am getting 1/7 for Chem! And I am doing maths studies....so I need some advice.

Well, I'm finally at a crossroads. I was accepted unconditionally to both NYU and Northwestern, but I have absolutely no idea which to pick. So...I thought, what better way to help me reach that decision than asking fellow IB-ers? I intend to study Communication in Northwestern and Film in NYU. Northwestern only offer a BS, while NYU offer both a BA and BS in FIlm. I heard from several people that a BS is better than a BA because it gives you the opition of either MS or MA in the future, rather than a BA which only limits you to MA. I just want to make sure, is this true? What are your opinions on this? Also, NYU really know how to sell themselves. I got several calls fro…

Hi guys.. these are my subjects currently: Danish A HL English A HL Mathematics HL Chemistry HL Business & Management SL Spanish a/b initio I am currently really really considering dropping down in Chemistry because it is not as strong as my other HL subjects (get 7 in the others, get a 6 in Chemistry) and I don't feel as if I have full understanding of the subject and it annoys me! So I was wondering if it will greatly impact my university possibilities negatively if I drop it to standard. This means I will not have a HL science. I probably want to do something involving mathematics, so I really hope it won't mess too much up. Hoping for fast replies! Thx!

Hey all, So, I wish to go to University in Europe. The UK is my first preference, however I am also quite interested in France, les Grandes Ecoles in particular. However, the admissions process is like nothing I've seen elsewhere, with the 2-year prep courses and entrance exams. I've asked my French teacher, but she only knows of the processes for EU/Local students. I was wondering if anybody here had any experience/knowledge regarding the international admissions process for these universities? I'm particularly interested in whether or not Internationals need to do the prep courses. For reference's sake, I'm primarily looking at SciencesPo, however some of the Parisian H…

Today I was wondering when I should actually start looking for suitable universities. I know the deadlines for applications varies from country to country and even then some unis have a different schedule. But what would be a good time to have a clear list of possible candidates? Or maybe easier, when did you start seriously looking for universities? I am currently towards the end of IB1 and to be honest I couldn't name a university I could see myself at in 18 months.
