Hello everyone, I'm in IB1 year and I want to start taking SAT or ACT as well, but I'm not sure which one to take. Since I'm an international student ACT seems easier in terms of vocab but we have a score choice in SAT and that's what confuses me. Any ideas? Or does it make a difference for universities?

Ok. So a today there was at least 2 people asking about American unis and GPAs. If you are an international student you usually don't have a GPA but there is a way to calculate it. The uni I am going to next year in the states has a calculator on their website, but it only good for their school... I think, but I have googled it for all of you. This is the page at my school explaining what a GPA is: http://www.missouristate.edu/registrar/gpa.html this is a link from that same page to their calculator which might provide some help: https://www.ws.missouristate.edu/admissions/gpacalculator/ this is one is for you GPA by semester... to get your cumulative GPA, just take the a…

for context, i applied to brown university and they have an option to upload research supplementary. my extended essay and math ia are both really interesting so i uploaded both, however i have come to find out that this is actually not allowed in the IBO. i have emailed the admissions office to ask if there was any way for me to un-submit the documents, but i wanted to know if i will get into trouble. should i withdraw my application? thank you!

Hello, I'm a pre-IB sophomore. This week I have to choose whether to do part IB or full IB. My #1 goal is to get into the University of Virginia (I live in VA). Will full IB increase my chances of getting into UVA? Or should I just do a lot of AP classes instead

Hi, I want to study mechanical/ particular physics and aerospace engineering at MIT or Caltech. I'm in my first year of the DP My subjects are Spanish Language and Literature hl, physics hl, business management hl, English B SL, maths aa SL and chemistry SL. Okay, my problem is that maths and I are not good friends; but I think I will need maths in hl because they will tell me that I have to do it to solicited in this uni or I will need this content for the classes, and I don't find on the web of MIT the specifications with the subjects in hl, I only find that I need a 39 or more. and if I change to hl I have to change one subject to sl, 'cause I don't wan…

Heyy Guys! I received a predicted Grade of 40/45 (HLS: 7,7,5 and SLs: 7,6,6) but my transcript is very high with a 91% being the lowest final grade on it. I have a 100,100, 91 as my HLs and a 100, 97, 96 in my SLs. I was wondering how much elite (ivy's/stanford/etc) would care about the predicted 5 considering I got a 91% in the transcript? Thanks

Hi everyone, I currently have a dilemma about my IB predicted grades. I'm planning to apply to Ivies, and some other top unis in the US and my school wants to predict me 45 points. However, I'm terribly scared that I will mess up the final exams, achieve lower than 45 and perhaps getting rejected (getting my acceptances revoked) because I achieved lower than that. I know that it doesn't happen often, but it's still possible for US unis to reject me if I drop significantly. So, should I keep 45 or ask my school to lower it a bit? (I know they'll be fine with it as the counselor already told me so) Also, at the last year's MOCKs, I got 7s from everything and even my To…

Hey everyone, so as per the usual I'm so behind on my work.🤪 But spoiler, this time it's actually essential to be done on time though. Yeah, my college essay is due by Nov 1 and I haven't the slightest idea on what I want to write. So, since I do IB (unfortunately) and out of the 170 kids in my grade I'm the only one, I was thinking of mentioning this is my essay. But.... it seems like it would be just a catch grab since it's quite a boring topic to talk about. So did anyone talk about IB in their essays or no or literally anything else??? 😂😭

I have a question about my math choice. Basically I’m taking math AI HL right now, but it’s too hard and I don’t think I can do it anymore. I’m thinking about switching to math AI SL. I don’t really know what I wanna major in in the future but I’m thinking about business. Will universities accept math AI SL? I would have Geography, English and Psychology on HL. Please, help me.

Hi guys, I’m currently in IBY1, taking HL biology, chemistry and English B. I really want to go to the University of Guelph for BS, and later go there to veterinary school. I’m struggling with chemistry, my teacher is a bit of a bully and I’m scared before every lesson. Also, I get mainly 5s and likely (and hopefully) 5 as a predicted; does it put me in disadvantage while applying to Guelph? I have 6 in Biology and 35-36 is likely to be my predicted score at the end of IBY1. Is it too low for my dream university? Thanks in advance for your help

Hello. I am an international student and I want to do Biomedical engineering as my premed. Right now I am in full IB (international baccalaureate) and I do Chem HL, Biology HL and Math HL. Do I need to take Physics Hl? We aren’t allowed to do 3 sciences. I did Physics in IGCSE and I got an A*. Would it be wise to switch to Physics HL because I feel I would need knowledge in Biology for my mCat.

Hi guys, I have been quite frustrated lately with my searches so I came here specifically. I am a pre-IB student in Poland, public school first gen, our first graduates finished IB DP just a year ago or so. Many people at my school are more inclined towards visual arts, history and geography hence why these classes are standard. However I haven't heard of a single person taking HL math and our math teacher said the course is so hard she would only let one person from our class take it. So now we have winter break, I can't really contact her and ask for sure if the class is offered or not and taking into consideration my current grades they wouldn't make it easy for me to …

I'm shooting for Law in the UK but as a backup plan, I'd like to go to the US. My course are: HL: English LAL, History, Economics SL: Math AA, Bio, Spanish B I have a 7 in everything. I'm naturally decently good at math (got 6-7 in my super accelerated HL-math level 10th grade course in Asia), so SL Math AA is a breeze for me. Would I have a chance at making it with these scores?

Hi, I am an IB student from Hong Kong studying HL Physics, Computer Science, and Geography, and SL Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, English A Language and Literature, and Chinese B. I'm expecting a final score of 42/45 points. Are there any competitive universities in Canada that allow students to apply to the school/department/faculty of Engineering without declaring a speciality (such as civil, aeronautical, etc.)? Do my qualifications allow me to apply? Note that I do not study HL Maths. Thank you.

Hi guys, I've just found out that American Universities require you to submit a transcript (i.e. the grades you received while studying before the finals) and that this is a rather important document. I thought that only things like the predicted grades and SAT's are the big deal (and of course extracurriculars, but I'm talking about academic achievement right now). The problem with this is that I'm applying to ivies and they probably have applicants with excellent transcripts, but my average results from the first year were little above mediocre: English A: Lang & Lit SL - 6 Finnish B HL - 7 (Finnish B is a really easy subject, so I'm not sure if it even counts) Psyc…

I'll be completing the IB diploma in 2021 and the predicted scores will not be out till march next year. However, according to the grade that I'm getting right now, a 37 to 41 predicted score can be presumed with the major weakness being at Chinese Literature at 4 or 3. I'm a Chinese national with a Canadian maple card (Permanent residence) so I will apply as a domestic student with an international diploma. I'm aiming at applying to the business schools (Sauder, Rotman and the like) or the Faculty of Art (Economics, Political Science) What are my chances? Thanks eh

Hello, I am in 12 grade at an international school. I am a diploma student but am extremely worried about passing the diploma. The school I go to is located on a small island and only offers the IB program. It's very weird because the school offered one AP course in 10th grade (Spanish). My school is an American school and we have been taught the American system. In 11th grade, we suddenly changed to the IB curriculum and it was a big jump because we were never prepared for it. It was a big change and we couldn't catch up with classes such as math, chem, and physics (mainly because we had teachers that didn't prepare us well and we never did precalculus and jumped to calc…

I'm an ib-observing student(now in grade 9,thinking about IB) as a non-English native speaker. I found that one can choose English A SL or English B HL, and the latter one will be easier for me. But some students think that choosing English B, Even though it is in HL, will be less competitive than English A when one is applying for north american universities. Therefore, how can students choose English courses? To be honest, I got an offer from a good ib school, but there is no English A course, that's why I am wondering.

Hey all, I am an IB diploma student (grad 21) and I'm hoping I could get hear some opinions from some of you. I'm considering to apply for an engineering program in universities in either US or Canada. I am currently taking Chemistry HL , Physics HL, and Math SL, and I'm concerned if taking Math at standard level will affect my application. In some universities like University of Toronto for example, they "suggest Math HL" but it's not a MUST. Any tips or opinions are welcomed.

This year our advisors kinda tried to scare us into working hard even if we get accepted in US universities, apparently they've been more serious about rescinding offers recently, especially after the college scandal last year. Can anyone confirm this? Also, how different would your actual score need to be in order to warrant a letter?
