How to use the forum. This forum has been created specifically so that current IB students can receive help from various IBS alumni in writing their Personal Statements, College Essay, CV or other applications they intend to submit in order to get into University or work. All the reviewers have been (successfully!) through exactly the same process and can give you plenty of advice as well as being a second pair of eyes to review what you've got! And we all know that after hours and hours spent on a personal statement, a fresh look at it is often sorely needed. Please note from the off that this forum relies on the good will of the alumni, so please treat it with respect …
I want to study medicine at Oxford or somewhere else in the UK (I am May 2021). Although I know it will be extremely hard, I want to do my best in order to get into Oxford. So do you have any advice on what should be there in my Personal Statement to maximise my chances of getting in? Are here any people who are studying/have studied medicine in Oxford and could give me any tips or answer some more specific questions?
Thanks in advance guys! 😊
Does anyone here has a Bsc or Msc in psychology?
I need help with my thesis topic, which has already been assigned to me.
I'm curious if it would be possible for me to send some journal articles to whoever is interested in helping, and you can tell me what you got out of them or we can discuss them together.
I'm in a situation where I'm kind of confused about the topic at hand and do not understand it fully.
PM me if you are interested.
I am in a hurry. I was doing my application for IE University in Segovia to take a dual bachelor of Law and Business Administration, when I "stumbled" in the admission tests. They require either the IE Admission test or other as SAT, LNAT, CAS or ACT. The Cambridge Assessment Test (CAS) includes those Language tests like the First (FCE), the Advanced and the Proficiency, right? Because I have done my First (FCE) Exam and if it does count, then I must use it as I haven't done any of these. Could anyone who knows or has been confronted with these admission tests explain help me? If I am not able to upload my FCE result, then can you explain to me how can I do one…
I still have a lot of time before my deadline. This is my first draft. Feel free to comment, change, or edit anything. Please comment and I'll share the link! Thanks a lot! P.S. As of now, this looks like a mess. I don't know how the PS tag got selected; it should be CE.
I need some help on how I should write a college essay. I am an aspiring environmental engineer, but when I showed my brother my 1st draft, he said that it was way too "Descriptive" and had too much "Literary Elements", almost as if it was like an exaggerated story. My main question is whether I have to make my essay sound like what i want to study? Like do I have to make my essay sound "engineer-ish"? If you want, I can give you the essay to read it.
Hi, does anyone have any experiences of a website called collegeessayadvisors.com? You can buy their essay feedback services and stuff like that, is it worth it? Is it useless, any better alternatives? I appreciate all answers Lynx
Hi, I'm applying to Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. In the online application form they require a so-called motivational letter to upload along with a resume or CV (both are accepted). My question is: what is meant by "motivational letter"? Are they requesting a sort of personal statement or a cover letter? How long should a letter of this type be? Should I refer to my life experiences, making it a little more personal, or should I stick with a formal, professional style? Thanks in advance to whoever is going to answer
I recently recieved two letters from Harvard titled 'The Truth About Engineering and Science at Harvard' and 'How Much Will Harvard Cost You?'. Could it be because I started to fill my Common App application for Harvard?
Hi, I am applying for a management course, but I am interested in a course called "marketing and management" at one of the universities, my PS mainly focuses on management but I briefly mentioned my volunteer experience at a marketing department. Do you think I should apply for this course or should I stick to just management?
Hey guys! I wondering if you could read and edit my two 200 word essay question answers. The first one needs to be cut down 18 words to meet the word count. They are both on Google drive on the link below; you can edit from the forum or if you have Google drive you can go into "suggesting" mode to add comments to specific sentences. Thanks in advance for any help! https://docs.google.com/document/d/12MWS3cTavLbF9-Z9L7orPC2wWPG63SrO2CPyGIjLoGk/edit?usp=sharing
Hi guys, I've been receiving loads of requests for help with mainly Jurisprudence and PPE statements for Oxford. There is one PS for PPE that I really cannot judge properly. I would like your thoughts on it. Just drop me a pm! Yii Yann
Hey everyone! I'd just like a bit of feedback and criticism with regards to my present CV. If you have some time to look over it and help me out, please send me a private message and I'll send the document to you. Thanks!
I'm writing my history personal statement for UCAS. My tutor has already looked at it, but the only comments she made were regarding diction or grammar. I was wondering whether anyone was willing to give a second opinion, perhaps giving suggestions on the content or on how to reduce the character count?
Hi! I'm currently in the later stages of writing my personal statement for UCAS applications for Law. There are a lot of things which my tutor in school doesn't want me to include/wants me to change radically and I'm not too sure whether I should take on board absolutely all the advice which is given to me... However, I just wanted a second opinion from someone who has gone through the experience of writing personal statements and see what you think about my PS. Be warned that I am currently shifting the order of things a bit/my conclusion is far from finished etc. Thank you in advance!
Hey everyone, I have a CV and Cover Letter that I would like a second opinion on; I intended to use these to apply for summer lab positions on a work or volunteer basis - really, whatever I can get to get some experience in that field. I'm looking into something specifically biosciences, medicine, or biochemistry based. Please let me know if you wouldn't mind helping me out! Thanks a lot, Rahul
