Alright, it is time to begin my EE and as we are briefed on the steps to take and what not, our coordinator informs us not to do an EE on Psychology. I am very interested in Psychology and was assuming that it would be okay. It would be easier to do a different subject I had been informed and had then decided to do a History EE. Well. Now I am not so sure that I should do a History EE but a Psych. Should I do a Psych EE?

My favourite thing about my psych class is that our classes are really interactive and we usually keep Friday as our 'general discussion day.' We don't study on that day and instead, we discuss topics not related to our syllabus but they are related to psychology

Okay, so. I'm Psychology HL and at my school we use the Oxford course companion for Psychology. But then, I went through past papers, and in paper 1 (the core)and instead of Sociocultural it was Learning and Human perspective. Is that a substitute for Sociocultural or a new topic as a whole? Should I refer to some other book? Please help me out!

Hey guys, I'm currently in y11 in my school and the time has come to pick my IB subjects, as you might see form the topic heading I am intrested in taking psychology although I'm not sure if it's really a practical/useful subject to take. I'd like to do Psychology in HL it is an online course provided to my school from Pamoja Education, i'm questioning if this is a reasonable subject to take along with the question of the added difficulty of an online course, if someone could advise me that'd be great.

I'm trying to figure out the mark scheme of Section A of Paper 1 to understand how I can improve my 8-mark essays. On Page 35 of the Psychology subject guide, the only descriptors to awarding marks to Section A are: "0", "Low", "Mid", and "High". Can anyone provide me with an examiner's rubric for Section A (according to my psychology teacher IB examiners should have a more detailed rubric), or can someone elaborate on what is considered "Low", "Mid" and "High" 8-mark answers? Examples would be fantastic, if possible.

Two learning outcomes from the sociocultural section read: Outline principles that define the sociocultural level of analysis and Explain how principles that define the sociocultural level of analysis may be demonstrated in research I'm thinking for the first one you'd list and define the principles and back it up with research (Asch study for example). For the second one, you'd also list the principles, and also refer to these studies to show how they demonstrate the principles. So are these two learning outcomes almost the same question?

I was looking at a post with notes for the learning outcome "Outline principles that define the sociocultural level of analysis" here: http://ibpsychnotes.com/scloa-lo/lo1/ Under "Human beings have a need to belong" the Asch study is used as an example. Logical, because the need to belong is what controls conformity. However, under "Culture influences behavior", the Bandura Doll study is listed. This strikes me as odd, as the subjects here aren't really being influenced by a culture, but are simply conforming to some behavior they see. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to, say, refer to the study of IBM employees from different countries that showed differences in the ways …

Hi! I'm doing Psych SL, and I'm aiming for a 7, while currently getting sixes. I've found out that there are waaay too many studies for me to memorize all the researchers and years conducted, and I so I wonder: what significance do these factors have? If you can perfectly explain the idea of a study without producing the name and year, will you be punished? --- Also, I'm using this book: http://www.amazon.com/IB-Psychology-Course-Companion-byHannibal/dp/B005MKBLHO/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358512872&sr=1-6&keywords=ib+psychology And each chapter has learning outcomes, with questions that seem like they could be on exams. Are all of them possibilities…

So... As many of you probably already know, many universities don't give credit for SL courses, whereas they give credit for AP. I take Psychology SL, and I was wondering whether you guys would advise me to take the AP test. I know that in reality, if I really need to do a lot of extra studying for it, I probably won't have the motivation for it. Would you say SL covers most of the material needed for the test? Our psychology teacher, who also teaches AP, said that he used to say that IB students are well prepared for the test, but then many students failed and he doesn't say that any more. I think it'll look bad if I take the test and it doesn't go well, and there's the …

Hello all, I'm currently writing my socio-cultural LOA notes and was wondering what an appropriate study would be for the point: "describe the role of situational and dispositional factors in explaining behaviour" Would it be appropriate to use Ross et al. 1977 despite the fact that it explains the fundamental attribution error? Or would it be better off using Zimbardo's prison experiment (1971) Thanks!

- is it okay? My teacher said we should not use the Zimbaro Stanford Prison Experiment for the question in SLA that asks for an evaluation on social identity theory. He said there are too many factors involved in the Zimbardo experiment. However, I find the experiment very intriguing and easy to memorise/ very applicable to a lot of other questions. So do you recommend that I still use the Zimbardo experiment for some questions in the SLA, particularly to demonstrate one of the principles in SLA, to illustrate situational factors, and to be an example for one of the research methods (experiment)? Any thoughts? What would be a good substitute if not? Thanks

We just started on the Psych IA last week and I already feel like it's going to be a major disaster I already changed my topic thrice because I couldn't find any resources whatsoever on my previous topics. We don't have public libraries where I live, and the Psychology books at my school library provide little to no information on my topic. I'm now doing the levels of processing, specifically Craik and Lockhart's 1972 study, and I'm really liking it. But, I'm in desperate need for the actual study. I can't seem to find it. I found replications, criticisms...anything related to the study, you name it, I have it, except for the actual thing. I searched on Ebsco, Proquest, …

Hello, I am done with my Introduction of IB Psychology HL except in this book I have, it asks "How did your ideas develop from the previous research and why was this considered to be an interesting area of investigation" What does this mean? I talked about 2 case studies (including the one I am replicating) and one theory in which those case studies support. So, what exactly am I supposed to say? Thank you, IB Kid in Need

Discuss two effects of environment on physiological processes
by Guest Sunshine123- 5 replies

Hello there! I am writing a psychology practice essay on "Discuss the two effects of environment on physiological processes", however, the two studies that my psychology teacher has strongly recommended is Maguire's taxi driver study (neuroplasticity where taxi drivers experience a brain structure change on their hippocampus) and Rosenzweig and Bennett's study on rats (deprivation of environment leads to increased thickness in cerebral cortex). However, the problem is that I find them really similar, as they are both related to brain plasticity, and how the environment leads to brain structure changes etc. Would this be a problem, since the question asks for "two effects…

Okay, so this is probably a really stupid question, but I've searched this forum and I can't find an answer so here goes: My SL psychology teacher has asked us to start finding our own studies because that will help us understand them better. When I asked her how to do that, she just said to use Google... There's go to be a better way to find reliable information on studies, right? Does anyone have advice on how to go about searching for some?

So, basically, the situation is that my teacher is on maternity leave, our substitute is our TOK teacher who theoretically speaking is a sport psychologist so they decided with our teacher that she'll teach us this option instead of Abnormal which was done in previous years. Apart from that, we're doing human relationships. Apart from the fact that I'm not really satisfied with the teacher, I really don't get sports psychology. Like, really don't get. I'm thinking about going through foundations of psychology, basic evaluating and the biological level of analysis. Since I haven't done that much of the course yet (IB 1) you might have a better understanding of what is important. Do you think I should focus more on the evaluation part or perhaps essay writing? Any help is appreciated!

Hello, I replicated Stroop's experiment and now I am asked to calculate "appropriate measures of central tendency and dispersion" for my two conditions/trials. The problem is that I really don't know which is appropriate for my experiment! The teacher gave us this page: http://easycalculation.com/statistics/statistics.php but there are so many! I did a repeated measures design and I am now with, for each participant, the time spent on a 1st task and the time spent on a 2nd task. The aim of the experiment is basically to see the difference between the two... Could somebody help me finding out which calculations to do and why? Thanks

I'm switching schools next year and I have to change one of my IB courses. I can either take Psychology SL or Social Anthropology SL. I don't have experience in either subject but I'm interested in both, although I'm already in History and Bio HL so I'm sick of memorizing stuff. Does one have a better reputation than the other--like in terms of how interesting the course material is? It would also be nice to know which has the easier, lighter workload...as 'easy' and 'light' as an IB course can get, that is.

Hello! This evening when I'm writing this, I'm as confused as I was the day my viewpoint of my Psychology teacher drastically changed. Yes, it was a couple of weeks ago, when my entire Psychology class were entirely taken apart by our Psychology teacher. We were supposed to get our valuable feedback for our IAs, in which we did, in an unexpected manner. One of the first thing we got to hear that the results from our first draft were extremely disappointing, and in fact, we had the "Worst result ever" on our Psychology IAs for the entire time my school has had the IB. Well, that's okay one may think, and it was by then. She was the one who knew things, and of course, no on…

The Power of Sesame Street to Improve Reading Phillip is a very enthusiastic elementary school teacher who believes that the best way to improve his students’ reading ability is for them to watch educational TV programmes like Sesame Street. He wants to see if watching TV can make a difference. He invites the parents of his class to a meeting and assigns the first parents to arrive to the group whose children will watch one hour of Sesame Street each day for 3 months. The other group will watch cartoons for the same period of time. He tells the parents what he hopes the results will show better scores on a reading test for the children who watch educational TV shows like…

Hello everyone, in abnormal psychology, under psychological disorders, the outcome states: Describe symptoms and prevalence of one disorder from two of the following groups: – anxiety disorders – affective disorders – eating disorders Does this mean we pick a group and describe symptoms and prevalence for one disorder only? Or would we have to describe symptoms and prevalence for two disorders - one from each of the groups they give us?

Hey guys, I just wanted to ask whether it is allowed to use footnotes in a psychology IA. The thing is that I'm finishing my IA but the problem is the amount of words. I currently have 2100, which is 100 words over the HL limit of 2000, and I cannot seem to be able to reduce the word count any more. You see, I had 2700 words, but it was easy to remove about 500 by taking away some unnecessary paragraphs, and then I removed 100 more by going slowly through the IA and rephrasing sentences and paragraphs so that they would take up less space. Now that I've gone through the IA for so many times, there doesn't seem to be anything that could be removed. I can't ask help from th…
