So I chose Catcher in the Rye for my extended essay because like a lot of high schoolers, it's my favourite book. I heard that it's really bad to choose an overdone topic and there's also someone in my school that's doing their EE on the same book. I'm focusing on the role of women in the novel so maybe that'll make it more unique. I really don't want to delve into something if it's not worth it. I've already submitted my topic to my supervisor and I don't think I can really change it at this point. I'm just wondering, how important is it that my topic is super original? Like if I write a qua

Hi guys, I'm about to submit my IA idea for math and I just want a few pieces of advice choosing one. Currently, I'm very much interested in cryptography and machine learning which are the topics that I want to do my Math IA on, are these viable ideas? Earlier when I talked to my teacher, he said that writing about the Global Positioning System (GPS) would be a great idea, but I'd much prefer the other two topics. What should I do to ensure that I get a high grade while doing something that I actually enjoy?

Wow, I haven't been on this site since I started MYP. It's great to be back here, this time as an IB student!! So we were recently introduced to our Global Politics IA (Personal Engagement Activity), and I'm semi-lost as this is a newly offered course at my school and no one's ever taught it before. My teacher isn't being that helpful in terms of the expectations and all, but I have a broad idea of what I need to do. We're expected to have proposals ready in the next couple of week and present them to our teacher for approval. As this is a relatively new course offered by the IB itself, t

Hey, I have a question concerning the EE topics for English B HL, how can i approach a topic, keeping in mind the criteria that is given? This is really important for me, i'm struggling right now trying to find a topic! Can you give me any advice and examples? Thanks

Hi! I need to start working on my IA as soon as possible but I'm struggling with the topic. I was thinking about doing it on French influence on fashion in mexico during "El Porfiriato", but my teacher said it was too vague and that i was focusing on other things rather than in history. Then I thought i could write it on "to what extent did Coco Chanel contributr to the womens right movement in the 19th century? This are just ideas, but if you could give me some topic ideas you would really really help me. Thank you

Hello everyone, I am a French-Canadian studying IB in Estonia; I need help to find some topics and ideas to make a great research question for my EE in biology. I thought I could do a simple experiment which would give me a sufficient amount of data; it must be simple because as you know, we have a lot more to do than just the EE haha . My field of interest includes food, bacteria, drugs, human and animal physiology, microbiology, medicine, hormones, immune system and enzymes. If you have any ideas for interesting topics, experiments or ideas to make a great research question, please let me kn

For my IOP I choose the book MacBeth. I would love to do a creative/Role Play IOP, but I am having trouble coming up with a topic that is compatible with the creative interactive format. Does anyone have any good ideas or tips to find a good topic?

Hi everyone, I'm going to start my first year of IB in the fall, and something that has confused me is the Extended Essay. What can I write about and what's off-limits? I know that you have to pick a topic that relates to the subjects that you take in IB, but can you write about a topic that relates to a subject that you aren't taking? The classes that I will be taking are: Math SL Biology SL Spanish B SL History of Americas HL Visual Arts HL English Literature A HL Thank you!!! 😁

Hi everyone, We were asked to think of math IA topics. I really enjoy doing origami as a hobby. I thought of investigating some topics such as Haga's theorem, or the ratio of an A paper (√2:1) Are these topics too simple or is there scope for investigation? Thanks!
-
So I started off with choosing The Civil Rights Movement as my topic for the Extended Essay but then I was told not to pick a topic that's so common, because the markers usually get tired of seeing the same thing over and over again. And also, if you're going to do a topic that's so well known, it has to be exceptional. So I was hoping if you guys could please put some suggestions that I could focus on that has a sufficient information for me to able to conduct the essay. Thank you! x

Hey, everyone, I'm a bit new to the forum so sorry if the post might be a bit complicated/unclear. I have a question supposed to get simple and nice/easy however it gets complicated sadly, about my IB choices... So first of all, I think I'm a really good student this year (I like to think), so my grades are decent (mostly As). The thing is, I'm really not sure of what I would like to do in the future, and this is causing problems in terms of choices for my IB subjects. The topics in which I am the most interested in general (after high school, as a potential degree or something) wou

Hello everyone! In one week I need to give my professor my EE topic, I will do it in History and I have a few ideas but I don't know how to properly formulate a question or even how to get primary sources from that topics. I really need some help. 1. Berlin Wall: How did the wall divide both sides culturally? 2. Which countries participating in the WW2 advanced more in medicine thanks to the human experiments? 3. To what extent did the witch haunt affect women nowadays? Thank you so much.

Hey everyone, I've noticed that there is a lack of Theater Arts students on this website and I struggle to find help and advice for my Theater class. Today I decided to put that behind me considering I have been through a lot during my theater journey and decided it would be easier for me to just create a forum for the new Theater Arts students from 2016 onward. This forum will be a discussion point for everything Theater based from the Nov 2016 session and for the years to come (unless they change the syllabus again). Please feel free to ask me any questions that might concern you

At the end of this year our teacher introduced IA to us and we had to start exploring the topics that we are interested in. As I am planning on pursuing biomedical engineering, I wanted to apply math into our body. Therefore, I liked the idea of math in biorhythms. The plan is I will convert the sine curves of the biorhythms for 3 strands (intellectual, emotional and physical) into co secant curve and then apply integral calculus to find the area under the graphs. But then I dont know if thats enough for HL Math IA requirements. I WOULD BE VERY THNAKFUL IF YOU GUYS COULD HELP ME OUT WITH THIS.

I needed some help in deciding a good topic for a chemistry EE. Till now I've thought of doing it in chromatography and dyes. I thought that the topic of "analysis of hair dyes was overused", so I was thinking of doing something along the lines of: "chromatography of different pen inks", or "analysis of dyes in foods such as ketchup". Thanks.

Hi, I'm planning to write my EE on the book "Spies" by Michael Frayn as a Category one. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any research questions for it or possibly suggest any books to compare it to. Books in the genre of growing up or coming of age would be appreciated. PLEASE, Thank you. :')

I have to do my IA over the summer, and I have approximately a little less than a month to finish it. I have no clue what to do it on, any help? I know I have to choose something I'm interested in, but I don't know how to connect math to the few things I like. ex. reading, television, video games, food, death, candy, science. I really don't know what to do and would greatly appreciate any help/advice.

I am planning to use "what are the religious origins and aims of ISIS?" for my extended essay, but my teachers were not really sure about it. Should i do it? I am really keen on studying ISIS as an organization but I am not too sure if I can use it as a extended essay topic.

HELP I'm going to have to do an IOP in April. The teacher gave us 3 things that we can do our IOP on which are poems by Bruce Dawe, "Othello" by Shakespeare and "Things Fall apart" by Chinua Achebe. At first, I was planning to do my IOP on Dawe's poems cause I really like his poems but after I've read "Things fall apart" I am not sure for my decision anymore because I also like "things fall apart" a lot...and I realised that the protagonists of "Things Fall Apart" and "Othello" actually has a lot of similarities and the two books both have similar themes like the roles of women in the soc
