I sat my IB Psych SL exam last year (anticipated yay!) and I have a fairly good understanding of how to structure a good response to P1 (which is pretty much the same for P2 as well). I've a question that has been bugging me since the beginning of the year, because as far as I have understood, we answer three short answer questions, one in each level of analysis, and write an essay. My teacher says that all short answer questions come from learning outcomes, but also that all essay questions are based on learning outcomes. But how does one distinguish between an "essay outcome" and a "short answer outcome"? Can anybody explain this to me? Is it simply a matter of how complex the question is? I'm confused.

Hi all, thought I would just upload the IB Psychology HL revision guide I made for my CAS Major. This guide isn't perfect but from the feedback I got from my teacher and people that are using it I feel that it is a very solid revision guide. There is generally evaluation for most of research and I have lots of supporting and counter research provided. Hello all I believe we are all studying hard for the May exam! I am sharing the same pain as well. However, I read the rubric for psychology's essays and I have to say that marks are easily obtained if you follow a certain structure in writing your essay. So I thought I was all set up and ready, and did my IA recently. Let's just say it didn't go as well as it could. Several things went wrong. So I'm going to post them here so anyone else doing the IA can learn from my mistakes. 1. When you are recruiting people to be a part of your study, make sure you give them something physical with your information and officially take down their names and contact numbers. Hey there! My Psych class is working on our IAs, and our teacher told us today that we need to have "creative titles" for our experiments (to be put on the title page). (She told us that last year's IAs apparently got critiqued specifically for that??) I was just wondering if anyone else been told something similar? I don't see why "Replication of [blah blah blah]" is inherently wrong... Definitely not a big deal but any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hello I did my EE on psychology but it turned out to be based on a topic in psychiatry. Even though my old psychology teacher read the first draft, she gave me the 'go' for my final draft (she left after IB 1). My new psychology teacher read my final draft and she told me she won't be able to hand it in to the IB because it's based on psychiatry, and it asking me to write a completely new EE for psychology. Do I have to really write up a whole new one or could I just make changes to it?

Hi, I'm doing Glanzer & Cunitz for my IA. The IV is immediate recall / delay recall but I'm not sure of the precise operationalisation of the DV (disappearing recency effect) - would it be for each person find how many of the last 5 words were remembered (then means from 0-5 should be different per condition) or for each word in the last 5 how many people remembered it (then means from 0-number of people)? The second seems closer to the original paper but then only gets me 5 pieces of data per condition (however big the sample) & I think I need 10... Sorry if I explained it badly!

Monk Serotonin Study (Kasamatsu & Hirai, 1999) seems to by an extremely popular study on IB-related websites (including this one), however, my IB Psychology teacher believes this study actually does not exist. I tried to find other mentions of this study apart from those IB sites with no success. Google Scholar was not helpful either. If the study was published in 1999 as suggested for example in the IB Revision Guide in the pinned post, that would be a little weird, since Tomio Hirai died in 1993, and Akira Kasamatsu was his teacher, so he was probably even older. For my Psych IA, we used Bargchen and Burrows behavioral priming experiment. They primed their participants an the experimental group took longer on average to get to the elevator than the control group. For our procedure, we had to do it online due to Covid, so we decided to use memory as an independent variable and change the original procedure that measured memory schema instead of motor behavior. Are these changes fine?

Hello!! I am writing my psychology IA right now, but now I'm at the result section and I don't understand a thing! My teacher does not explain this well, and he doesn't seem to be certain about what he's doing. Hi IB Survival, So for this club I'm involved in, I've created a mock Psychology Paper 1. I've written the questions so they cover what I feel are the most emphasized parts of the new (2019 exams onwards) syllabus. I've also created a markscheme written in the IB style. I hope some of you find the paper and markscheme helpful. If you really want to practice for your exams, obviously go with the official released May 2019 papers and 2018 specimen papers. But if you want more practice, my exam doesn't share any questions with May 2019 and only 3 similar questions to the specimen. Psychology IA Statistics Help (Tversky and Kahneman 1974) I chose to do my IA on the Tversky and Kahneman 1974 experiment on the anchoring bias. Basically, it was an independent samples design. In condition A, the participants were asked to estimate a numerical expression in ascending order 1 X 2 x 3 x 4 x 5 x 6 x 7 x 8. Im having trouble deciding on what question should I pick to do my EE. I have some of them here and I’d appreciate if you guys told me the better one from your point of view. To what extent is the influence of sleep on emotional and cognitive processing a primarily trait? To what extent does emotions affect with the cognitive process?
