I sat my IB Psych SL exam last year (anticipated yay!) and I have a fairly good understanding of how to structure a good response to P1 (which is pretty much the same for P2 as well). I thought I'd share.
Before I start, I think it is imperative that you get in to the habit of planning your response - it doesn't take long, and it will save you!! It will make you organise your ideas logically and certainly improve the quality of your language. You will be forced to be prudent in your evaluation, and examiners will totally see that you know what you are talking about!

I've a question that has been bugging me since the beginning of the year, because as far as I have understood, we answer three short answer questions, one in each level of analysis, and write an essay. My teacher says that all short answer questions come from learning outcomes, but also that all essay questions are based on learning outcomes. But how does one distinguish between an "essay outcome" and a "short answer outcome"? Can anybody explain this to me? Is it simply a matter of how complex the question is? I'm confused.

So I thought I was all set up and ready, and did my IA recently. Let's just say it didn't go as well as it could. Several things went wrong. So I'm going to post them here so anyone else doing the IA can learn from my mistakes. 1. For my Psych IA, we used Bargchen and Burrows behavioral priming experiment. They primed their participants an the experimental group took longer on average to get to the elevator than the control group. For our procedure, we had to do it online due to Covid, so we decided to use memory as an independent variable and change the original procedure that measured memory schema instead of motor behavior. Are these changes fine?

So for this club I'm involved in, I've created a mock Psychology Paper 1. I've written the questions so they cover what I feel are the most emphasized parts of the new (2019 exams onwards) syllabus. I've also created a markscheme written in the IB style.
I hope some of you find the paper and markscheme helpful. If you really want to practice for your exams, obviously go with the official released May 2019 papers and 2018 specimen papers. Psychology IA Statistics Help (Tversky and Kahneman 1974)
I chose to do my IA on the Tversky and Kahneman 1974 experiment on the anchoring bias. Basically, it was an independent samples design. In condition A, the participants were asked to estimate a numerical expression in ascending order 1 X 2 x 3 x 4 x 5 x 6 x 7 x 8. In condition B, it was presented in descending order 8 X 7 X 6 X 5 X 4 X 3 X 2 X 1.

Hello! I am in the first year of IB and my teacher has decided that we should submit our final psychology IA-s in January 2019, so we should be done by now. We submitted the first draft and my teacher didn't give me that much feedback. is any of you interested to give me a feedback or that would help me with improving? it would help me a lot.
Our psychology IA is based on Peterson and Peterson experiment (1959). We are performing an exact replication of the original experiment and in that there is only one group (experimental) for which a repeated measures design has been used. However, according to the new IB guidelines, for the analysis bit we are required to apply both inferential and descriptive statistics. For inferential statistics we need a control group too, so that we can compare but there is no room for a control group in the original replication. In other words it won't make sense to have a control group.
Is it still possible to do the IA without inferential stats?

Long story short, my IB Psych SL class was recently collapsed into an 'independent study class' following some issues with our previous teacher, and we're working on revising our IA drafts with guidance from our coordinator (who teaches psych, but not at IB level). We've just been given access to a number of materials (including the correct rubric) for the IA for the first time, and one of my classmates is freaking out because of the condition that conformity and obedience studies are not ethically acceptable to replicate.
