Hello everyone ! So i had my IA about flashbulb memories last year, and this year came new psychology teacher who told me that I can't do that experiment. Now I am going to do new Internal Assessment and due date is on 7th november. I researched many experiments, but my teacher did not like even one experiment. She said that I have to research something about memory, or memory which involves music. I need very simple experiment. Can someone help me? Thank you

I've a question, for example if the question says to examine models and theories of health promotion in paper 2, what do you need to write? Two models followed by one research, AND two theories followed by one research? I'm slightly confused on this part and can't seem to figure out how to write the essay out in terms of content, not the command term..

Hey guys I'm resitting my psychology HL, which I got a 4 in, however the school I am resitting it with does not offer it as a course (I moved country after taking the exams). I was quite confident and happy after taking the exams, which makes me really feel like what I need is someone with the qualifications to teach and or mark IB psychology who I could e-mail papers I've written for marking, or call on skype to discuss certain matters etc. I've found things such as OSC online tutoring and tutors on video-tutor.org, but they both seem to be more session based, where you spend 45 minutes to an hour talking to the teacher and then stop. While that's fine, I would benefit f…

Hi guys, So I have collected data for my experiment (Loftus and Palmer 1974), and 2 of my participants did not put an answer for speed estimates in 1 condition. Now I am wondering if I include their answers in the data as "0" or just completely omit meaning that i only have 9 (out of originally 11) results for 1 condition. I tried both methods in the "unrelated t-test" and got quite different answers.

Hi All, Im starting my EE and Im finding hard to find as many studies as I would like regarding my Extended Essay topic question. My Research Question is: To what extent has elite co-ed and single-sex education impacted academic performance of adolescents? Does anyone have any studies they could recommend to me for this essay topic? Thankyou in Advance

My teacher keeps telling us to read additional studies and essays and articles that are not included in the book because apparently, you can't get a 7 on the exam if you don't write something extra that you've read 'independently'. Is this true? If so how much should I read and how recent should the research be? We are using the Pearson book

Hi guys, I'm a bit confused by what I need to do for my HL IA. My teacher has told me that I need to change a independent variable, but all the HL IA examples i've read online did not have this. They have either replicated the experiment completely or modified the experiment. Also, could you show me where you got your answer? Btw, I'm doing my IA on Loftus and Palmer's experiment from 1974. Thanks.

Hi guys, I was thinking of doing the extended essay, branching into psychology. My topic choice is OCD, although I need some extended essay ideas. Also I was told that an extended essay such as "Investigation into the causes and treatment of OCD" would be a broad idea to research into. Is this true? If you guys could maybe give me some ideas on some OCD extended essays which would be acceptable towards the IB criteria, it would be greatly appreciated. I've also previously selected this to be my extended essay; "To what extent does school as a stressor play a role in the development of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?†However, I couldn't find any studies concerning this…

Hey, so i have my IA topic due soon and want to know if anyone has done their IA based on researches in the Sociocultural Level of Analysis. If any ideas, please help me. I am also looking for something related to the Gender Schema Theories, or things like that? If not the SCLA, I don't mind doing something on Freud... I am super pressed for time, so if any of you'll could help generate ideas, I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks!!

Hey, so my IA in a replication of Loftus and Palmer's first experiment with slight modifications. Instead of 5 conditions, there are 2, as well as having one of the verbs in the leading question changed to something that hasnt been used. I'm wondering which inferential-related statistical test I should use for my experiment. I'm comparing the mean of two groups of people. Thanks

Hi guys, I have chosen extended essay question is "How has violence in television shows effected children's behaviour?". First of all is this an essay which is acceptable by the IB? and also I'm quite lost in how to structure this psychology essay. Do i need to keep referring to studies to support my arguments? Do i need to take it from 2 sides of the argument (positive,negative/no affect at all)? Do I talk about certain negative behaviours resulting from violence in television shows? Any advice would be most appreciative.

So I ultimately decided on: "Neuroplasticity and Deafness: A Comparison of the Effectiveness between Sensory Substitution and Cochlear Implants" as my topic. The structure will be as followed. Abstract Introduction Cochlear Implants - how it works/risks/ advantages/controversy Sensory Substitution in Deafness - types of devices/ Evaluation - compare and contrast Conclusion ReferencesI'd just like some feedback on if what I have already is appropriate. It is sort of late, but it's just the rough draft,so I'd like to know if I'm on the right track. Thanks in advance.

I'm debating taking higher level psychology over higher level chemistry since I'm not fully set on studying something STEM related in university. Since, it's the first year my school is going to offer it, I haven't got a clue about what the course is like. (P.S. is it risky to take it if it's being offered for the first year to my cohort??). 1) Is it interesting?? 2) I know it's very heavy on memorization - would it be manageable if taken along with higher level biology and economics? I'm good at memorizing but there obviously is a limit 3) I don't particularly enjoy essay writing but I'll do it if necessary. Would that be an issue if I choose to take it? 4) Is the mark…

Hi, My friend and I are both doing EE in Psychology, could you comment on our EE topic. What is emotional intelligence and how does it relate to personality and life satisfaction? My main interest is Emotional Intelligence and how it can be applied to our day-to-day interactions. Having already read most of Daniel Goleman's books i thought it would be interesting to begin with an overview of EI, then compare different models of EI, to move on to discussing EI in terms of Personality and EI in terms of Life Satisfaction. My friend's is: To what extent does CBT help remediate stress/anxiety? Any advice is welcome. Thanks

My research question for the Extended Essay is ''The role of imagination in children's play''. The problem is that my psychology teacher has only attended 4-5 classes since Christmas time. I have not gotten any guiding meeting, no feed back (not on intro nor for my 1st draft). When talking to the IB coordinator and school, I've been promised things and forgotten. The deadline is in August. HELP! If you have close contact with your psychology teacher (or someone who can help me reach one), please HELP! I'm loosing my mind. I have two IA's hanging as well.

I'm doing my extended essay based on the research question, "to what extent to biological and environmental factors effect personality?" I have found 12 sources, but I decided that two of them are redundant and useless. Would 10 be too little an amount of sources? I have three or four websites. One of them is a blog post, but it references real theories and studies and is by a reputable author, so I think it will be okay. Then I have two books and four or five studies. Within the studies, more specifically the background research they provide, there are a lot of references to other studies, so I got a TON of information from that. Do you think that I have a good va…

So, I've taken the 2014 may test today and I want to ask your opinion on one thing. I don't know if I'm allowed to speak about the specifics, but generally, I included a study in a SAQ which name and year for it was completely forgotten and didn't pop out. I just stated that a study conducted had this this method and that result. Assuming I've done well with the other criteria, would that still give me a decent mark for criteria A? Thanks in advance! #Edited Also if anybody know how to answer "Examine the concept of normality and abnormality", please help me. I'm having trouble seeing how to include studies.

Hey everyone! Tomowrrow is the Psychology Paper 2. I was just wondering whether using bullet points in the 22 mark questions would be a good idea. No, i am not planning to write the whole answer is bullet points, but within the essay, can some list type data be included in bullt point? For eg: A question like: "Discuss the concepts of normality and abnormality" comes and I want to include Rosenhan and Seligman (1984) and Jahoda (1958) in my answer, can I use a bullet point list to list the 7 and 6 criteria respectively? Including all seven critera in a paragraph is a bit inconvinient and may put off the examiner as well... Any thoughts or advise?

I've been told that by someone who took it last year, but all the guides I look at say I just need experiments in general... Anyone know which one of these is correct? And it's not like I can ask my teacher, because he has taught us out of the regular psych book all year and just informed me the other day that it was the wrong book... And if anyone has some case studies/experiments I should memorize that could be applied to a lot of topics, that would be greatly appreciated, because I have no idea what I'm going to do on this test.

Hello everyone, As I get further into my revision, I'm getting confused about the lenth of the responses. I've been used to writing about 500 words for the SAQs and about a 1000 for the ERQs (atleast 2 examples for SAQs and atleast 3 for ERQs - or less if they are really complex) - as is stated on a few psychology revision sites on the internet aswell - and is also what our teacher expected. However as I check our course companion and some examples here on the forum, I see that maybe I could write shorter responses... Would anyone care to advise me on the appropriate length and detail for the SAQs and ERQs? edit - I'm asking this for psychology HL

I shall explain. I am literally in the middle of writing a paper 1 practice essay (on CLOA research methods if u were wondering) In my notes it says it's an experiment, on the internet it says it's an experiment. But my teacher tells me a lot of times that i get confused between saying 'study' and 'experiment'. A study is looking at a change with the change of a variable (not exhaustive, nor completely accurate description, i know) An experiment is strictly controlled with a change to the independent variable and observing any change to the dependent variable. But logically, Bartlett doesn't seem like an experiment, basically, he got British people, read them the Na…

How is Psychology questions on paper 2 organised?

Hello, I know that for the core options I need to know them fairly well and in-depth. However, what about paper 2? There are three questions for each option, but are they set so so that they can have one topic from the option? For instance, in developmental psychology, there are three major topics so does that mean that there will be three questions from the option on every topic? I cannot seem to remember all of it well so it would be nice if it was like that. I hope you understand my question

Evaluate two models or theories of one cognitive process. So basically we were taught that we should use 'the multi-store model of memory' and 'working memory model'. But I would like to know if it is a good idea to use 'schema theory' and 'flashbulb memory'. Would these 2 work as well ?

For example, for sociocultural origins of violence, can I use Zimbardo (1969) to explain the deindividuation theory, and then use Johnson and Downing (1979) to explain the role of social identity theory on the origins of violence? I'm not sure because their limitations would be very similar and I would have to evaluate them together. Another example is the question about factors influencing conformity. Can I use different variations of the Asch (1951) experiment to explain the effects of unanimity and culture? In one variation, one confederate was instructed to always disagree with the majority (even if it was also the wrong answer) and it resulted in the conformity rate…

There's probably a really obvious answer to this, but on the exams is it possible that the command terms used for the 8 and 22 mark questions will differ from the ones in the syllabus? For example, in the Health option there's "Examine models and theories of health promotion." Could the questions switch out the term "Examine" for "Evaluate"? Or are all the learning outcomes in the syllabus set in stone...? (Evaluating models/theories is just so much more work in my opinion!) I see so many variations of the learning outcomes on the Internet so I'm really confused. :/ Any help is much appreciated!

Hey guys, I've heard that the IB isn't fond of students using the case study of Phineas Gage. Is this true? I was planning to use it for the biological level of analysis specifically theses learning outcomes: Outline principles that define the biological level of analysis. Do we assess the use of validity and reliability in the studies that we use, maybe? All help appreciated!
