In the other three perspectives there are many empirical studies which can be used in exam responses and in most exams at least one question will ask something requiring a study. However, I have never seen a question like this for the humanistic perspective (this is for the old syllabus btw) and my teache said he went through a lot of past papers and markschemes and didn't find one question that required studies from the perspective. Also, I don't really have any studies to support anything from the perspective anyway, which is probably the reason why they don't ask for them. I was just wondering though if you do in fact need to have empirical studies from the humanistic …

Sooo, i'm supposed to write this paper in psychology. Is there someone who can give some tips, what should my paper contain. I'm supposed to answer tree "questions", these are: 1. Outline principles that define the biological level of analysis. (Outline- give a brief account or summary.) 2. Explain one study related to localization of function in the brain. (Explain- give a detailed account including reason or causes.) 3. Discuss, ethical considerations in research into genetic influences on behaviour. I really don't know where to start..

Hello, i will have my first test from Psychology, i'm taking standard level, although higher level class takes the same test. It's my first one so i want to make a good impression on the teacher so i i would be glad for 6 or even 7, i missed about a month of work but i caught up pretty quickly so i believe i can do well in the test i don't know if anyone is familiar with this model of question, as our teacher told us that the model is new in IB (or maybe not), so here it goes, the main and only question is: Discuss two attribution errors (for example Fundamental attribution error and Self-Serving Bias) The question should be answered with these criteria and the whole que…

Well basically I've been on absence for the past 2 weeks due to being really ill, and I missed most of my classes on how to do a paper 3 on all qualitative stuff and interviews. My teacher is pretty strict and would not allow me to the in-class paper 3 another day. So I have to do it on the same day as the others which is tomorrow, could anyone help me in suggestions on how to write a paper 3 regarding qualitative stuff and interviews? Cheers

I'm in second year IB and want to do psychology at Cardiff in the UK. For those who dont know, its a pretty highly rated University for psychology... I started off the IB in Higher maths. That lasted about a month. Then I moved to standard. After doing pretty diabolically in my first year exam (3) and even worse in my retake (2) I've been told it would be recommended that I move to studies. The entry requirements on UCAS don't actually specify a particular level for maths, only saying that I need to get 18 in highers and have at least one science at higher - which is do-able. I'm just wondering if by dropping to studies my chances will be higher at getting in (due to inev…

Hi all, For my Extended Essay I'm writing about eyewitness accounts and my question is: "To what extent should eyewitness accounts of events be allowed as evidence with extensive psychological evidence of fallibility in human memories?" I've found lots of research that discredit the reliability of eyewitness testimonies and research discrediting the reliability of human memory in general. But, I'm having a lot of trouble finding research that support eyewitness accounts and human memories. Does anyone know of that they could link me to or reference for me? Thanks a lot.

We've started our IB Course in May(2010) and my final IB exams are in May 2012. My HLs are Psychology, Math and Economics. Psychology was totally unexpected but my counselor suggested it over Business and Management (besides, I had some sort of interest in it). Let me tell you guys my state, we've completed the Biological Level of Analysis and the Cognitive Level of Analysis--which is like 2/3 Paper 1--and I just realized that I have only socio-cultural left (which I'm estimating to finish in a two-three weeks). I know topics for Papers 2 and 3 are yet to begin, but my real question here is 'For the May 2012 exams, am I moving at a normal rate?'. This question popped up b…

Hi, my group members and I have decided to replicate Rauscher et al.'s 1993 study on the influence of Mozart's sonata k448 on spatial-temporal reasoning. We were doing some research but we could not come across anything that indicates clearly the instructions and methods approached by the researchers. But the basic gist of the experiment is that there are three different conditions that the participants were exposed to: 1) silent condition, 2) relaxing music condition, and 3) Mozart's K448 condition. I was wondering to what extent do we have to replicate the published study? For example, in condition #2, our research does not indicate what kind of music the researchers ha…

I'm doing a topic on internet psychology about how adolescents say an do things differently in an online community versus an offline community. My question is that would it be wrong to reference past essays (such as the ones on http://www.tedbursa.k12.tr/ib/html/pyschology.html) or would it be more acceptable to find the reference in the essay look that up and so.

Do you think that the white rat in Watson's experiment grew to have an emotional response of fear to Little Albert, or any other humans in the experiment? I know that Little Albert was classically conditioned to have a fear of the white rat, but I wondered if it is the other way around. So what do all of you think?

Also, I have basically 1 study (little hans) that I knowof, and that just can't be good! I've already checked out cranepsychology.

I was just wondering whether you guys know people who are psychologically ill!? (schizhophrenia, depression, phobia, anorexia...) How do you know that person and what is it like for you? How do you deal with it? My uncle is "partially" schizophrenic, i.e. he is not really schizophrenic but he has got some symptoms of it. It makes him a bit "strange" and sometimes you feel uncomfortable but apart from that, he's a good guy...

Hello All, I am a IB 2 student from Hong Kong doing the old syllabus for HL psychology. I am going to take the May 2010 Exam this year. Ever since IB 1 i have been struggling with psychology, particularly in the areas of evaluation and just general 20 mark essay responses. I recently received my Internal Assessment (Coursework) mark and it was 16/25. I am very worried about my final exams because there is so much content to cover and so little time, and adding on top of that is my low coursework grade, giving me no "safety net" to fall on. What i plan to do for revision is got through all the past paper questions (with focus on 20 marks) and make detailed plans for the …

Concerning the SL Psychology IA paper: What counts to the overall word count? In many examples I have seen, there are small explanations of the results section of the IA. Do these explanations count towards total word count? Do charts, tables, and graphs count towards word total? Do headings and cited sources count towards total word count? My IA is due in two days and I am still about 50 words over the limit, not counting charts, tables, graphs, headings, etc. Thank you for your swift response!

Is anyone else doing Cultural Psychology for their option? We're doing it and I hate it. We're given some really crappy resources which are basically just blocks and blocks of text. Does anyone have any good websites or resources that they could recommend for cultural psych? Is anyone even DOING Cultural Psych? That's what I want to know. I don't know why my Psychology teacher chose it...it would've been a lot easier to do the psychodynamic or dysfunctional option...*cries* At least there are textbooks for them that are easier on the eyes.

Hi! I've recently began to think that psychology might be an interesting field to study. However, I did not choose it as an IB subject. Does this mean that I can't be accepted to study psychology in prestigious universities (especially in the USA), such as (my personal love) columbia? Am I in a weak position compared to the people who took psychology? If it matters, the subjects that I AM taking are: SL: Swedish, Math (studies), Biology HL: English, Finnish, History Is psychology out of my reach now? :/ What do you guys think? If you could point links etc to actual factual information that would be great.

Hey there! I'm a Y2 Psychology SL student. I've just chosen my IA topic - Glanzer and Cunitz, the Serial Position Effect. I've been reading the Holy Guide and the IB Psychology Syllabus but am still confused about one main thing. Does the experiment we conduct, have to be the exact replica of our chosen topic? Or do we simply take the idea of it, and create a new (similar) experiment? I'm confused because they keep saying how you have to state your Aim. This should be pretty easy if one were to simply replicate the experiment. Thanks for your time!

I am in IB Psychology I SL and I am almost done with the exams (paper two is tomorrow). Thus far, I have found the first year of Psychology to be very easy. Can someone please tell me what the difference between IB Psychology II SL and HL is (in reference to the course work, the internal assessments, the external assessments, and the examinations)? On a more general note, is there a difference between whether I choose to take 3 HL and 3 SL tests or 4 HL and 2 SL tests? Like, all that real…

I'm getting quite confused and lost on certain aspects. 1. If we were to connect one assumption with one key concept or empirical study, what would I use? 2. What are the assumptions of Psychodynamic P.? 3. What is the free will/determinism stance for this perspective? 4. The only methodology is case studies, yeah? And the only main empirical study being Anna O. and Little Hans? Guidance with even just one question would be very helpful. THANKS.
