Extended Essay
Talk about the Extended Essay.
Extended Essay Rules - BE SURE TO READ THESE before starting a thread!
1. Just to make it clear - we will not give you a topic for your EE, but we will help you refine and expand on your original ideas for a topic. You are marked on your choice of topic so we can't help you with that.
2. Before doing anything, read the Extended Essay for Dummies thread. At the very least, we recommend you take a look at the 5 Cardinal Rules of the EE!
3. Before asking anything about format or requirements for the extended essay, we suggest you read the IB Extended Essay Guide first (which you can download from here).
4. Make your thread titles descriptive. At the minimum, mention the subject area and if you have one, the topic! For instance "History EE on Nazi Propaganda" is better than "EE help please". The people who know about history and nazi propaganda will click on the first thread and probably miss the second one. Help us to help you - give it an accurate title!

At first, I was thinking of writing about how use of language changes in adverts in the 80s, 80s and 2000s but I can't seem to find any advertisements. I'm still thinking of doing something about change in language and slangs, but I can't figure out what to write about and I'm freaking out because 1. I can't talk to my supervisor about it for a couple of reasons lol and 2. The first draft was due ages ago. Can anyone please help me to think about something? I'm absolutely desperate.

Hey, I need help with possible RQs for Joseon Dynasty era in Korea. I want to look at the early-mid stages of the Dynasty but don’t really know what specific RQs to come up with (to what extent, how did...,) type of stuff. I am super interested in Confucianism/Neo-Confucianism or the creation of hangul but idk if they are too hard. I have access to a uni library so I am not worrying too much about sources. It doesn’t have to be limited to the two topics i mentioned above. I just want to write about something in that era.

Do you have any suggestions, experiences or advice? Thank you!

HELLO I want to write my extended essay on physics, and do it on special relativity. I have two possible topics (not well defined yet): 1.- Special relativity's time dilation proven by muon decay 2.- Special relativity effect on magnetism (i.e. why non permanent magnets work when electricity is conducted through them, from a special relativity approach) Now, these two topics are something I'm really interested in. I really wanted to do an EE on astrophysics but I think is better if I stop at relativity. The question here is, are any of my topics appropriate? How can I achieve an 'original' approach with them? Any suggestion on narrowing the area of s…

I am very interested in the topic of cancer and am wanting to write my EE over it. I was thinking maybe a biochemistry essay of sorts, but I am having problems coming up with a good RQ. I've read on other sites that cancer is too broad of a topic for an EE, but I have access to a cancer researcher and a research center and am very passionate about this topic so I do want to write it over this if possible. Any ideas or feedback?

Hey IB lads, I just started IB1 and my teachers and peers are already working/deciding on EE subjects and their topics. I'm really lost right now because I don't even know what subject I want to do the EE in. Some of my peers are already reserving teachers as their EE moderators and I'm scared I will be one of the last ones to get one which results in less time with my moderator. My subjects are Math HL, Physics HL, Psychology SL, English A L&L SL, Finnish B HL, and Chemistry SL. 1. Do you guys have any tips on choosing an EE subject and then a topic? 2. Are there any trends like "English A EEs do worse" or "Experimental EEs are impossible to get an A in…

Hey! So, my RQ is "To what extent would the merge between David Jones and Myers be an effective economic growth strategy?". This is due real soon and I need help with what I need to write in my body paragraphs. My teacher has suggested that I talk about economies of scale. I also want to do a finance type of processed data, such as a profit and loss account. Could anyone suggest what type of finance table would be suitable for the RQ, as well as other things I could write about in my body paragraphs. Thank You.

Hi, I'm trying to decide on an Economics EE topic and namely around analyzing the most fitting market structure for an industry, for which I've been using this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0j4_Jo3fMQ My main question is if I want to analyze the market structure of my local real estate market, is that too broad? Because obviously there's the buying and selling of homes, the developers who buy land, lenders, banks, etc. So with the EE in mind, is my best bet to broadly discuss all of these elements of the RE market or to focus on the financing, housing markets, etc more specifically? Thanks!

I was doing math EE about finding the least amount of moves in a Tower of Hanoi game with N amount of disks and P amount pegs. Then, I found out that mathematical formulas are not enough and coding is needed to find the answer. Right now, my work contains a little bit more coding than math but I was able to get an answer to the question so I am thinking about adapting it to comp sci by doing something such as writing a program to tell which disk to move, step by step to complete the game etc. However, I've looked up examples of comp sci EE and my topic is very different from them as my topic would be more related to math while having a some more coding than calculation. …

So the EE which I decided to do a couple months ago was a conventional history one about the muslim conquest of spain, but I'm considering switching my topic entirely while still trying to keep my EE in history. The two main ideas I have are reconstructing proto-coast salish(or another small group of indigenous languages), and writing about how the salish languages were impacted by colonialism(both territorially and linguistically). I've seen that others have been able to do quasi-linguistics essays but seeing that there's obviously no IB subject for it, what's possible seems rather vague. I should mention that my advisor does not have a degree in linguistics and I'm not …

Hi there! My EE is about Robin Hood ("To what extent was Robin Hood real?"), and while I didn't have trouble finding sources, they were all too expensive and I only bought 3. My library had NO books about him, so I had to order mine online. They're great, very detailed, with insight, facts, timelines and whatnot. One of them even has a poem from the 1400s, the first written account of Robin. Besides the 3 books, I have about 5 reliable websites I'm drawing information from. My question is, how many book sources and internet sources do we usually need? I emailed my supervisor, but he didn't answer my question, only said I was "on the right track". Thank you!

Hi, I'm really late in thinking of an EE topic for bio and I have to do something completely research based. I was thinking of doing something in phylogeny and I thought of either selecting a gene that is commonly found in several species and seeing whether they have a common origin, or I could also select a trait and find whether it has been evolved as a result of some event of divergent evolution. Can I get some specific ideas?

Hello, I wanted to ask if someone could clarify me what counts as words in a math ee. My ee has plenty of sequences of numbers, mostly in the form of triplets, as well as numerical and algebraic expressions. Do numerical expressions count as words? When listing the word count, should I clarify that the word count refers only to the actual English words and not mathematical symbols? If someone could exhaustively list to me what mathematical notation counts and doesn't count into the word count., I'd appreciate it. Thanks

I am currently in the process of my EE year, and have decided to go the route of language and literature or category 3 in group 1 of the EE guide.
