I am writing a Language & Literature Category 3 Extended Essay in which I analyze political victory speeches. My question will be "to what extent does X impact Y?", but I fear that the answer will be "not at all" or "barely." Will not finding anything hurt my essay? TLDR: LangLit Cat3 EE discovers nothing

Hi everybody, I was planning on doing my EE on Advertisements and more specifically... Celebrity endorsements on instagram. However, one of the celebrities that I was planning on writing about deleted his instagram and i am left here wondering if i should scrap my topic and do another one that is 'safer' (gender stereotypes in advertisements) or if i should change from Adidas to Calvin Klein. Your help is much appreciated, thank you

Hey everyone. I am an IB student from Mexico which means my first language is Spanish. My second language is English. I love to read books that are originally written in english most of the time, so for my extended essay I was planning on doing an analysis on Cersei Lannister's internalized misogyny, from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, which is a book written in english. I asked my teacher if my topic fell into the Group 1 category if I used the translated books for the analysis and she said YES. But today another teacher told me that my topic was not acceptable because the book

Hey guys! (this is my first post). We're starting to narrow in our extended essay topics in school now and so far I have chosen English Lang. & Lit. Category 3 Extended Essay is Mass Communication and Media. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for a solid topic or research question I could do within this category and subject? Also, do you guys think it would be difficult to write an extended essay for English? My research says it's fairly decent + i'm interested in English. Some of my potential topics are: - Language in propaganda posters. - Stereotypical gender roles in ma

Does anyone know where Category III EE examples can be found? I'm studying Obama's use of rhetoric in his speeches in the context of the American Dream. I would really appreciate your help, and also to kick-start this discussion given that few students usually choose Category III.

I'm doing a group 1 English EE in category 3 which is "studies in language", where "texts" include television and movies. My topic is on the television drama Breaking Bad, but before I narrow down a research question, I'm a little confused by the IB guide for studies in language. Some of the sample RQs included are things like "How does the use of rhetoric in Barack Obama's speeches affect their effectiveness?" and it kind of suggests that "language" is limited to word usage, but the guide emphasizes language in a cultural context and how language is used to gather meaning from texts. So can a

Hello guys! (new to the forum, first post!) I'm going to start my second year of IB soon and I'm thinking of changing my topic ( I know..). My first topic was in World studies but I did not have a supervisor that fit my subject choices. So my second option has always been Group 1 in English Language and Culture (so thats category 3). I've been brainstorming topics on the same and this is what I've come up with: How are teens represented in TeenVogue? How are men represented in Men's Health? I want to work on an EE that focuses on language and how it is employed to persuade a specific audience
