I am getting ready to take my exams this year, and I was wondering what study materials you prefer, I am lost, and I see quite a bit of options. If you have prep books that you liked and used would you let me know, and post a link of where to find them. That would be amazing, Thanks.

And how does it compare with Physics HL. My teacher told me that physics HL usually fluctuate around 75% for a 7 which really shocked me. That low?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anybody who sat the Time Zone 1 SL math exam this year could share some thoughts with me regarding the exam. The general consensus is that it was harder than most past papers, but looking at past mark boundaries, the lowest a grade boundary (for a level 7) for math SL ever dropped to was approximately a 79~80% in 2009. Do you guys think it will go down even more this year, as although paper 1 was moderately difficult, it was manageable. On the other hand, paper 2 seems to have brought down everyone's marks, including mine (especially the final two questions). I'm really stressed out that I will not achieve a level 7, as I did so many pract…

Judging by the level of the exams, specifically math studies, history HL, biology HL (TZ2) do you guys think the grade boundaries will go up or down this year, compared to last year? Which ones did you guys find hard and which did you think were easy? I thought biology was especially difficult, mainly paper 2.

I believe it's been 24 hours so I think we can discuss the first two papers now. How did everyone find the exam? I thought Paper 1 was OK except for a few tricky questions (like the one with the two beakers of acid and the one about the weak acid with the choices being like pH < 2, pOH > 12, etc). Paper 2 was a love-hate paper. Question 1 was SOOO HARD, I think I only got a few marks on it. But the rest of section A was all right, and section B was superb! I did questions 7 (the one on organic with compound X) and 8 (the one that started with the mass of titanium). Anyone do these as well? What about you guys?

Did anyone sit the Japanese SL exam? I did TZ 2. I loved paper 2 but I was stuck with one question on Paper 1 and thus couldn't write enough characters in Section D. And that when I was actually wondering if I should start with this section to avoid disappointment with my performance Am I wrong or did they usually provide squares to write in rather than lines???

Hey Guys, Hope you liked the paper 1 and 2. Pretty straightforward then last year and now drawings (which was amazing for a person like me who fails at art. :/). Anyways, not sure if ANYONE will actually remember but for that motor neuron question in paper 1, what was the right answer? For fellow frenchies, good luck studying and for those who are done, congrats.

Hi! As there are some changes in the 2012 and the 2013 syllabus in some subjects, I though it would be good to have a thread showing an overview of the differences - as a good place to find the updated policies. We wouldn't like any of the former students helping current students teaching them the old policies just because they haven't updated themselfes! Just post a comment with the changes you know of in a particular subject, and I will edit this post as we go along.

Surprised there's no thread for Psych yet. Was anyone else extremely frustrated with Paper 1? None of our class bothered with the general learning outcomes, because we figured they probably wouldn't come up because they're too easy. Our teacher even said not to worry about them, because if you know your other outcomes, then you should be able to figure out the general ones. It turns out that's pretty much what we did, but I was a little hacked off, because I memorized two years of psych notes, and it didn't even occur to me that ALL of the questions would be on general outcomes. Sometimes I feel like the IBO is just messing with us. Anyway.. Did anyone else feel the same …

How did it go? I'm HL chem. I thought paper 1 was going to be good and paper 2 absolutely terrible cause the past papers looked hard with paper 2 but in the exam it was the other way around! Paper 1 was harder than usual cause the paper 1 past papers were quite easy! Paper 3 was okay. I was surprised when they asked about the founders of penicillin. I totally skipped that paragraph in the book cause it seemed too much history related and..well I just thought it wasn't important ><

How did you find the exam yesterday? I thought it was pretty easy. Texts A and B on paper 1 were a breeze, and the composition was straightforward. Now I expect everyone to do well, which would make the grade boundaries ridiculously high.

Since there was a HL thread, thought I'd start an SL one How was it guys? Did you choose the poem or the prose? Our teacher didn't teach us how to comment on prose because he says that analyzing poetry is much easier. So our whole class did the poem I thought it was about war, and how the people at the dinner party were ignorant about it... Then I commented on the structure, sound and images used... Hopefully it was ok

So, what did everyone think about the test... I thought it was relatively easy overall, but I always get hung up over the Data response questions in papers 2 and 3, not that it was difficult to understand but I'm never sure what they want in the answers. Options E and F were were so-so to me... probably should have revised a little more though...

I am really hoping for the curve to save me. For previous years, you needed only a 64% for paper 2 to get a 7. But I am really worried they'll raise the curve this year cause apparently it was easier? :/ How did you guys find it? Was it easier, or about the same as previous exams?

Since we already have a thread on sets I thought I might as well start one for series. What'd you make of the paper? I found it was pretty easy throughout except for the last part (2 points) of question 4 as well as question 5. To my disappointment I found that question 5 part b was taken from a past paper (2010 i think) which I did in preparation but completely forgot about. Same goes for question 5 part a although that was from another paper. However, if the mark boundaries are anything like last years I think I'll be quite satisfied with the result. Questions 1 - 3 were pure gifts and 4 wasn't much different One note on question 4: What did you get for the diverge…

So what did you guys think of this paper? I don't remember the numbers of my questions, but I did Lenin's policies, the rise of Hitler and Mussolini, and Stalin's rise to power. I was pretty happy with those three questions - I was surprised to see Stalin's rise on there since it was on Paper 2 as well (although I didn't answer it on that paper). I was a bit surprised that there was no Bismarck question at all The German Unification one was between 1845 and '71 (I think) so I couldn't even go near that. No Weimar either :/ And then the Alexander II question... I knew they'd had him compared to Alexander III before but I didn't really expect them to do it again. That k…

你们考得怎么样?I thought texts 1, 2 and 4 were really easy. Text 3 was a bit of a struggle but overall P1 was relatively okay! P2 was amazing-- it had the simplest prompts in the world. In the end I chose the first prompt (对我最大影响的一个人) and had a fun time writing over 300 characters. In retrospect I think I might have gone over the character limit, if any. What did you guys think of it?

Hey guys, how'd you all find the paper? I thought it was pretty good, I could've answered the micro or macro one. In the end I went for the macro one, seemed more interesting talking about all those stakeholders and comparing the types of inflation with deflation and then evaluating it from that particular standpoint! I brought in exchange rates into it as well through my discussion of interest rates and its impact on international competitiveness. How'd you guys feel about it?

So Economics is finally complete! This thread is for discussion about paper 1 and 2 because they are back to back and well, similar in structure (paper 2 questions like paper 1 part a). How did everyone find them? I found it pretty good actually, not too hard. Paper 2 was actually weirdly easy in some of the questions. I did 1, 3 , 5 . and question 1 on paper 1. Didn't touch Development Economics anywhere hehe. Guess its a good thing I didn't study it. Is there a different timezone? I'm TZ2 but it said TZ0 on the paper.

Hello everyone. I just did my Math SL paper's, and im afraid i might fail the IB because of getting a 1 in SL math. All i want to do is pass math, as im not interested in doing anything related to it in the future. I always get sixes and sevens in my other subjects. Now my motivation to study for all my other exams has vanished, as i feel like the game has been lost already. My paper 1 went fine, i got around 40/90 i would guess. But paper 2 was just a completely disaster. I'ld say around 20 points. So now im scared im gonna fail... i feel like im having a bad dream and i can't wake up, i've been crying all day. I know all you need is a 2 from math sl to pass, and my math…

Hey everyone! My economics HL paper 2 went surprisingly badly, for example i mixed up one word for another and therefore didn't answer the question at all and will most likely get 0 (unless they give some points even if you talk about the wrong stuff; do you know if they just give you 0 points if you talk about the completely wrong things or do they give you at least some credit if the response is otherwise good?) But yeah paper 3 is tomorrow and im planning to do much better. I was REALLY hoping for a seven from eco but looks very unlikely, although do you know around how many marks you should get to receive a six or seven? I've looked at grade boundaries but i'ld like…

Since we don't have a thread on Paper 3 yet I thought I'd start one. I did Communications and Astrophysics and was rather surprised by how easy they were. My entire class focused only on paper 1 and 2 so all we had was one night of cramming for the paper but no one thought it was hard or anything. Just one question: In communications there was one question which i didn't quite get: a multiplexer has a sampling frequency of 13kHz (or something like that). Each sample takes 50ns. How many samples can be transmitted per second? Feel free to discuss any of the other options as well. Regards

I don't think anyone put up a thread about this, but what did everyone think of the exam? It's been a week now. I studied Option A, B, and F and I also learned G but I didn't study it enough for the exam. I ended up doing B and F. I thought the questions were ok, but I felt some of the wording was a little vague, so I ended up putting EVERYTHING I knew just in case it wasn't what they wanted... had to use 2 extra answer sheets, haha. Also, for biochemistry, I did not know the names of the cytochromes for the cell respiration question, so I put cytochrome oxidase for both of them. Not sure if that was the right answer. I was going to do analytical, but it looked like there…

How did everyone find it? I thought it was quite fair, surprised to see that cost push/demand-pull question was on there again, had been on the exam in may 2007 i think (signalling and incentive too). very good question though! inflation vs. deflation was a good evaluation as well. only thing i forgot was to name wage factors as reasons for cost-push inflation...mentioned rising oil prices, natural catastrophes and supply shocks and reduction in technology or institutional factors instead...

Who took these exams? I found the texts in P1 quite easy, the Facebook one was kinda hard, but Text C was surprisingly easy! But the questions were tricky, they are always so vague and not straight-forward, I need to think what they wanted. P2 was okay, I wrote das Tagebuch. How did you find it?

Now that it's well over 24 hours since the Paper 3, any comments on that one? I didn't have time to complete the last question but otherwise I think I got most of the others right. Except that I fell to the trap on the question that asked to discuss the result in reference to the Lagrange's theorem, I understood right after the exam that it didn't follow the theorem but of course I wrote the wrong answer on the exam... (Edit: I did the Sets, Groups and Relations option)

How was it everyone?? Remember this question in Section B qn 11, where we're given 2 functions f and g, and asked which one is more suitable to model a probability density function? What was your reasoning? I only wrote that the sum of probabilities equals 1 (which is the case for f) but since there are 6 marks I feel that there should be more to it.... After the exam I thought I should've noted that each probability was positive and less than 1. What do you guys think? And any comment/question on the rest of the paper?

I hope I'm not the only one here to have done Further Maths. I think Paper 1 was quite nice, there was nothing unexpected there and fortunately there was no graph theory on it, which is always good. Paper 2 was slightly harder, as was to be expected, but doable. I only had problems with the discrete maths question, where I missed two parts and the stats question, whose later parts I couldn't figure out how to do. The saddest thing is I instantly figured it out when I came out of the examination room. Overall, I think I lost 15-20 marks on paper 2 and hopefully got full marks on paper 1. How did you guys find it?

How was it everyone? For me the paper was (also) quite manageable although I think P1 was a little easier. I'm glad though because I really feared that P2 would be super difficult like last year's. I'm surprised there are SO MANY probability questions, 4 in section A methinks and yet another big one in section B. All the types of questions I've ever come across so nothing new for me (hence I'm glad). Umm what else... Y'all remember this probability qn in section A where we need to integrate 1/(1+x^4) and find a?? How did you guys do that? I tried substituting x=sqrt(tan u) but that didn't work, so I went for trial and error (haha) and got a=1.40 which gives the integral…

So how was it? I found it to be easier than P1. I blanked out on that Section B question with the triangle intersecting with the circle. I knew how to solve it but kept getting weird angle values. 0_0 So I just at least wrote down the formula for method marks.
