I read from another topic in this forum that the National University of Singapore is biased against IB, favoring the A-levels instead. Is this still true up to now? Also what grade out of 42 should I be aiming for if I am to apply for law or economics either at National University of Singapore or Singapore Management University? Any insights and suggestions will be appreciated.

Hello, I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before. (I tried searching the forums and internet for answers, but none has given me the answer I needed) The question is: For universities in the UK and USA, which school year's grades are sent for admissions? (ex: grade 11 grades, first semester grade 12, etc) I have heard that Canadian universities mostly base their decisions on first semester grades from grade 12. I have also heard that American universities tend to look at your grade 11 grades. Is that true? Thanks

As I'm planning on taking a gap year next year to study mandarin and to do an internship, I was wondering what your experiences with a gap year were, especially what goes for university applications. I'm going to be applying within that gap year rather than deferring my application, so that's what I'm most interested in, but feel free to share any other experiences you had with gap years.

Just curious to know if there is anyone who does not have aspirations to go to university. People so often ask 'which university are you going to?' rather than 'do you want to go to university?' ... just wondered if people have other paths in mind - further courses at college, travelling, apprenticeship. interested to know

I am still not sure what exact branch of engineering I prefer, but the area of energy/sustainability is looking very interesting. I am not intending to make it into one of those very well known unis like MIT, Ivy leagues or such. Just something that offers interesting programs and is affordable At the moment HL physics and SL chem are looking quite good with a 6 and perhaps even better. Hl maths, on the other hand still needs some work but I am determined to getting at least a 5 or else . If it makes a difference I am doing the IB in English but I am part German and my French isn't that bad either

Are the Business degrees offered by HKU any good? The requirements, pertaining to the IB, only mentioned something about not getting lesser than a 5 in Math SL. The only reason I'm actually considering HKU, is primarily because of lower costs. The initial plan was UK, but I don't think it's going to work out because of high costs and low prospects of getting a 50% < scholarship. Hence, HKU. So yeah, is a business degree considered valuable from HKU?

Hello boys and girls! As you can see, I am a fresh fish up here, so I am (in advance) sorry for any inconvenience. My signature says that I have maths and geography on HL, so it can be easily deduced that I am somehow interested in mathematical/geographical studies. Unfortunately, I am NOT. I had plans for engineering studies or any others, highly related to maths. Few months passed and I am (as the title says) stuck in the middle with... me, myself. I;ve been thinking about my near-future for few months and I ended up with few ideas, which are as follows: - Law - Psychology - Direction - Acting Pretty tricky, isn't it? I am most interested in psychology, but since it is…

Hi guys this is my first question on this Site. I have physics, chemistry and math HL and business and management, and others at SL. I wanted to pursue engineering since beginning. However, now I am interested in the theoretical part of physics and chemistry more. Which degree should I pursue? Engineering or Bachelor in subject degree. As an IB student, which career in science will benefit me more?

Hey all! I recently heard about Sciences Po university in France. They have 7 campuses and each one represents a region in the world and devotes studies to that specific region. I've also heard that their diploma is highly recognized all over the world. They offer numerous dual degrees and exchange programmes with universities such as Harvard and Colombia. Do you guys have any experience with this uni, or do you know anyone that is currently there or plans to go? It would be also very helpful if anyone of you knows the IB undergraduate requirements, as they are not listed on their official website. Thanks in advance!

I have 2 problems: 1) Finding a scholarship for A bachelor's in veterinary medicine for an international student.I really need some scholarship if not a freaking merit scholarship. 2) I'm probably not going to the UK, so that leaves the USA, Australia and other countries for the course. My problem is that I don't have too much know-how on admission processes, like I think admissions have closed by now, but then again, i'm not sure. If you think I'm asking for too much, I'm genuinely apologetic for making you do work I should've done, but as it is right now I'm really busy preping for the IB and don't have a second to breathe, so I'd really appreciate it if anyone coul…

Hello, I am currently in my IB2 year and my final year of high school about to graduate soon. For the longest time I believed I was going to go into medicine, notably surgery, as my life goal but I'm starting to have second thoughts on it. Thinking about it now, I've always loved problem solving and building things, and for some odd reason, have an affinity for aircraft and space crafts, so now I'm thinking about going to University of Toronto engineering science and majoring in aerospace, then perhaps get my master's at MIT or somewhere else. I could also use this as a backup career in case I plan not to attend medical school after college. The problem is I've been heari…

Hi, topic title says it all I think. I would like your suggestions on subjects to do at uni. I've been told by my head of sixth a few weeks ago that, based on my report and my ALIS test, if I wanted to, I could get in to Cambridge or Oxford. And he asked me to think about what I would like to do at uni, because he knows that I don't know what I want to do as a job or at uni. I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to knowing stuff about unis. I very much enjoy languages, but what career options does this give me? Music and dance are pretty much my life, but that's something that will always be a hobby I think. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO For Sandwich : HL: Fre…

So I was just wondering, When people email colleges or universities, either in the UK or US, what sort of things do they ask/say? Because it seems to me that almost all the information can be found on their websites. Or do people just emailing asking for all that stuff to get their name known to the uni/college? Do the colleges/unis normally have any extra material that they don't put out on the website, but that they will send you if you ask? Thanks in advance.

So I've started to do some research on universities in different parts of the globe I want to apply for. While the universities list other information like fees, courses, information about workshops etc. However they don't have the backbone for a future student, the entry requirements. Any tips on how to find these for various universities?

Ok so I have a few miscellaneous questions about applying to university in the UK and the US. (I'll probably add more if I think of more) Some of them may be a bit silly, but bear with me please! US - Firstly, does applying for financial aid affect your chances of admission at all if the US college is NOT needs-blind? I've read conflicting reports on this. (If it changes things, I'm an international student). Secondly, is your predicted score as important as your final score? Or is it less important but still important, or not important at all? Also, with the common application EC bit, what if the hours that you've done things have varied a heap - should you just averag…

So, I'm planning on studying/reading engineering in university, and I was wondering if anyone had any input as to what schools to look at or to avoid. As far as I know most of the Ivy League, Stanford, MIT, and Caltech all have great programs in the US, and abroad I've heard good things about Oxford and Cambridge, though I doubt my ability to get into such institutions. However, I have heard from some sources that for some reason I'm not quite clear on, Princeton engineering is not as good as it seems upon the surface. Does anyone know anything about this?

hey guys please help me here. I have taken ibdp and I am in my first year. The teaching staff at my school is very bad. They never suggest anything on a problem. I got rally bad marks in Nov. exams cause math teachings are not good, again we had many events and some upcoming events at my school due to which we had many free periods and No learning. B&M teacher doesn't teach good as she just explains a concept in 2/3 sentences without using proper terminology and moves ahead. So after finishing exams I couldn't even pass cause application of knowledge was 0. Except English, Psychology, German nothing rest is at bad situation." If teachers are not good move on, don't leav…

Hi there! First of all, I already know that there is someone already asking about this. But I still need more information.... I would want to know how much different will it make if I take Chemistry Standard Level instead of Chemistry Higher Level if I am most likely to go for psychology. I just switch subject from Econ HL to Chem HL last week. I did quite well in class and assessment. But I generally hate Chemistry... more of afraid it gonna get harder. So I was considering of changing it back to Chem SL and take Econ HL like what I did at first. But I would want to know if there's going to be any effect for my future career path. I am now taking Biology, Chemistry a…

I have applied to some of the really prestigious schools in the US (Ivies, UChicago, Stanford...etc) with my predicted grade of 44. I took the November 2011 exams and my results are out now! I read through the handbook but I'm still unclear on what the application process actually is. As someone from outside Ireland I think I am a Non-Standard Applicant, but I don't even really get what that means. And do I need to send a personal statement and reference like with UCAS? Do I need to send predicted grades at some point or do I just wait for the actual results? If someone has applied through there or has a better understanding of the system, I would really appreciate the help!

Okay so ill start ib next year and I'm going for a bilingual diploma in which i took French A SL and English B HL (when you do all your subjects in english it counts as bilingual). I was wondering about the english language requirements of universities. Lets say they ask for English A as either HL or SL. But I've done English B HL, still my diploma is bilingual and english counts as my first language, what happens? Will i have to pass another english test just to get in because i did English B?

I'm hoping that that may give me the closure i need. Also because, i like elderly people too lol, they're fun and intriguing Anyways, I thought it would be interesting to…

Hi, I want to apply to swedish universities next year (beginning in autum 2012). Well, as I will take the final exams in may 2012 I won't get my grades before July 6th, but I heard that you have to send in your final grades by June 2012 if you would like to start your studies in september. Is this ture? If yes, does this mean that I cannot apply to Swedish universities for Höstterminen 2012 or do the universities accept predicted grades? I am really confused right now.
