Essay question: "To gain an understanding of the world we need to make use of stereotypes." Areas of Knowledge: Ethics & Human Sciences I have finished my introduction, I think it's alright (hopefully the teacher will like it as well), although, I really have no clue how to start my main body... I have a full vacation week and I want to use it to finish all the internal assessments and essays ASAP. Like now. Anyway, I don't know if its allowed in this forum, but here's my introduction so far (vvv link uploaded vvv). All help/advice/guidance will be appreciated TOK ASSESSMENT ESSAY.docx

Oh Jesus please help me! This is about the TOK presentation ~ My knowledge question for this: "Is the act of tattooing your skin a form of artistic expression or an entirely independent art form in it's own way?" Is this okay?! Also, can someone please explain to me how I'm supposed to go about explaining this with the four areas of knowledge? Thank you ~

Hey guys! Recently, ToK students at my school were asked to create and present mock presentations. These presentations were graded on the ToK presentation rubric from IB. These aren't the official ones. They were merely for practice. However, I still had a few questions about the grading policy. On the mock presentation, my group got a 7/10. The teacher said our Knowledge Issue/Question was great, but our presentation was not extremely engaging. She said we also needed more opposing viewpoints. However, we had an engaging activity that would help the audience understand our concept. We also included many viewpoints. Our teacher seemed to have favored presentations that st…

"According to the historian G.M Trevelyan (1876-1962), ‘unlike dates, periods are not facts. They are retrospective conceptions that we form about past events, useful to focus discussion, but very often leading historical thought astray’ [How can dividing history into periods be useful and how can it be misleading?]" Our teacher told us to use the TOK textbook, but I didn't wrote down the pages... and none of my classmates know this either, so I need some guidance please.. All help and advice will be appreciated Thanks.

Hi everyone, I am going to do my Tok presentation soon and I'm thinking of choosing the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings as my real life situation. I think this will be a good one because it brings up the issue of individual vs. collective rights; the child's guaranteed safety at school vs. the shooting community's (hobbie/sport/job) access to their guns. Although I have a good idea on what I want to do, I can't seem to come up with a good KI! I think I will touch upon history and ethics, as well as reason and emotion. I would really appreciate if anyone could give me some advice, because I'm pretty stuck and stressing out! Thanks a lot! Joe.

Any ideas about real life examples which exemplify the notion that knowledge is a benefit?? If you could help me I would be more than grateful. Thank you!

Hi, I was given the 2014 November ToK Essay titles today. 1.“Some areas of knowledge seek to describe the world, whereas others seek to transform it.” Explore this claim with reference to two areas of knowledge. 2. “Knowledge takes the form of a combination of stories and facts.” How accurate is this claim in two areas of knowledge? 3. “In the production of knowledge, it is only because emotion works so well that reason can work at all.” To what extent would you agree with this claim in two areas of knowledge? 4. “To gain an understanding of the world we need to make use of stereotypes.” With reference to two areas of knowledge, to what extent do you agree with thi…

Figured I'd make a thread where people can share things they've read/seen/watched in their daily lives that could be neatly shoe-horned into some excellent TOK bull**** for essays, presentations and so on. Feel free to share your own! Some of them are actually interesting in their own right, but please don't post things unless you can also make some TOK out of them... Language **** the Poor http://encyclopedia2...topic abundance Emotion Reason/Logic Sense/Perception Racial Profiling http://sfglobe.com/?id=828&src=share_fb_new_828 Contribute away! I'll add them to the top as and when.

The class, of course Sorta curious about what you lot have to say about it. Perhaps you'd like to share your expectations, assuming you haven't started in the DP. Or, assuming you're out, maybe you'd like to share with us some past experience. In any case, I'd love to hear your opinions.

I was thinking about doing my TOK Presentation on genetics, under the broader knowledge question "Can science go too far?" However, I'm kind of lost when it comes to how I should present this topic. I was hoping for some advice on how to specifically address this topic in the context of TOK. Also, I was wondering what others think the best medium for this presentation might be (Powerpoint, video, etc.) Any words of wisdom or guidance is much appreciated!

Hello, I've really been struggling with Tok, we haven't been taught the entire course due to teachers leaving. I've just finished the Tok essay, and now I really have to start working on my Tok presentation. My Presentation is in six days, and I still have no topic or question or KI or RLS. I am very stressed out. Can any alumni give a a topic that i can develop a question from, that has potential to lead to good marks, and link to many aoks and woks. I'm really sorry to be a hassle. But I only have 6 days left. :'-(

I'm doing my ToK presentation with a partner and our mock presentations start next week. We still haven't come up with anything. At first we knew we wanted to work on media- but we had so many ideas and came up with a new topic every week. Only a few days ago, I looked for samples on the internet and noticed that the standards of those examples were so much higher than ours. Ours weren't even proper 'KI's. They were just topics. Anyway, today I was thinking about what my ToK supervisor had told me about the presentation. 'Think of something different, something shocking.' So that led to me thinking about punk music (don't ask why) which in turn resulted in this. …

I'm starting to do my TOK presentation on the extent of the SAT being an accurate predictor of success in college/university. My knowledge issues are: 1. How does one test for knowledge? 2. To what extent can one use knowledge of the past to predict the future? Are these KIs okay? How do I incorpoate WOKs and AOKs? For the first KI I was thinking of focusing on the AOKs mathematics and the arts, since these are areas that the SAT tests for. But I have no idea how to incorporate WOKs here. For the second question, I was planning on focusing on the human sciences and citing perhaps a psychological study...but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Again, here I don't kn…

So for my TOK presentation, I decided that I wanna base my knowledge question around Tennis and how faith and perception play a role in determining outcomes in tennis (coin flip, whether the ball was out or not, etc.) and in life. So far the only questions that I was able to come up with are: ~To what extent does faith/perception play a role in affecting the outcomes of everyday events? ~How does faith play a role in affecting our perception? ~Is bias present in our perception and faith? Hi, I have my TOK presentation due day after tomorrow and my teacher has refused to comment on it or even see it. So I need advice regarding it. The Ki I have chosen is : To what extent to belief systems of the knowledge community outweigh musical talent with regards to decisions in the Arts? My RLS was based on how for passing down my musical position, the school conventions said that it should go to the senior most but an 11th grader would have done a better job. So, is the Ki linked to the RLS? And can anyone give me suggestions about how to proceed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi! I'm new here (just created an account about 10 minutes ago), and I already need help So, my TOK presentation is this friday. It's a long story to why out of the entire month of March I could have gone, but I won't get into that. As you could tell, I was thinking of doing my presentation related to music. The thing is, I don't what title I would flipping use for what I plan to do. I was thinking of taking a classical piece and including some renditions of it. First, I would ask my audience if they've heard the song before (most likely, none of them would) Then I'd play for about a minute. It's a VERY well known song so I'm sure most of them will recognize it. Then…

Up until my sophomore year of high school, my school offered eight periods, however, due to budget cuts, we switched to a seven period day. As a result, TOK was no longer an official "class" offered. Instead, we have TOK one day each week during lunch (which is about thirty minutes long) and we have a "TOK Release Day" once per quarter where all of the IB diploma students meet and talk about TOK-related things. Not only am I concerned that we barely meet, we have a... not-so-great teacher. She's an awesome person, but we often get off topic. She usually has us watch a youtube video on a current event and we attempt to discuss it, and everything starts off okay, but we …

Aright, people, I'm on the final revision of my ToK IA (topic 1, in case you're curious). My question is: in TOK, is it best to explicitly state your thesis as in history or english, or not? ie. would i say, "making ethical judgements that block the creation of knowledge is never justified" - or would I present my arguments and assume that the marker will figure it out? It makes for a less dumbed-down read the second way, but with the IB you never know...

Hello! We are just starting our TOK presentations (and cramming it, unfortunately). I was choosing between two topics - perception of beauty and global warming, but I think I would want to do the latter because the first seems to be overrated. I'm thinking of asking the question: Are humans the cause to global warming? The thing is, I am not very sure how to approach that topic, or what kind of conclusion I will reach. I guess the things that should be explored include how we decide global warming is actually taking place and to what extent the sources are reliable (natural sciences, mathematics), and maybe how the media is influencing our view towards the cause to glob…

Hello IBSurvival. I am a new member and I stumbled upon this website looking for help with my Theory of Knowledge essay that is due...TOMORROW! I have just started to look at what is required of me, and I have realized that our teacher has absolutely failed in teaching us anything having to do with TOK.
