Hello, I am curious about what you did your TOK presentation on. What are some tips that you would give to those who still have to do one. Please share your experience, that would be extremely helpful. Thank you.

Hi, I'm doing a TOK preso similar to this question, just around this area. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I'm starting to get stuck because I'm not sure how to explain how certain cultures have things that others cant understand.

I am doing my TOK presentation on the real life situation of the MMR vaccination controversy (basically false claims made that the vaccination could cause autism). The question that I am thinking of doing is "Should the distribution of knowledge always seek to serve the greater good?" I will then go on to talk about how this claim effected herd immunity and therefore it was detrimental in terms of the greater good. Also talk about other real life situations Do you think that this is a reasonable line of questioning or am i completely off? Should i be tweeking my question or completely changing it? Thanks

So, basically I'm not very good at TOK. I did pretty poorly on all the practice essays I turned in and I'm worried about how I'll do when I have to write the essay for real. Thankfully, I have some time to prepare. I was wondering, though, is there any way to kind of guess what the titles will be for future exam sessions? My exams will be in May 2016. I know this probably a long shot, but maybe there are some trends or something from past year? If not, is there anywhere I can view a list of all past titles? And, finally, when are the titles announced or released? If I'm taking the May 2016 exams, when will I be able to know what options I have? Thanks in advance!

I can't upload my TOK essay. I've uploaded the essay to via file storage, wrote down in the additional boxes the prescribed title and the word count and clicked "Save changes". The button "save changes" has frozen! I log in and out of the site and the button remains frozen! Is it supposed to do that? It appears that it hasn't been uploaded properly. Please Help! The deadline is soon and I'm freaking out !

I was going to use something along the lines of "By looking at these AoKs, I will consider..." or "By looking at these AoKs, we will consider..." Are any of these pronouns acceptable to use in a TOK essay?

I had some questions on the TOK title #4 for May 2015, I finished the essay and then talked to other people who did the same title, and we all got confused. Now I'm worried whether I even did my essay the right way or not. So the prompt for the title is: With reference to two areas of knowledge discuss the way in which shared knowledge can shape personal knowledge. I hope you guys can help me out with these questions! 1) In the title, they say discuss "the way". I assumed they meant a WOK, but others said it doesn't have to mean a WOK. Also, if they meant WOK, does that mean I should only use one (since way is singular?) or if I am allowed to use other WOKs (especially…

Hi. I am working on a mock for my TOK presentation. I think I found a topic I want to tackle, but I am somewhat unsure wether it is a good idea. I want to use the knowledge question: "How do we know wether we are controlled by a greater power or not?" and link it to a real-life situation where AI's take over the world. And focus on how mathematics and science could be a greater power. Link it to religion and everything. Any ideas?

Our TOK instructor never gave us a example of a TOK presentation that received a top grade. Apparently the IB have made changes to the TOK presentation criteria, and they therefore didn’t want to shows us other people’s presentation. We are about halfway done with our TOK presentation, but I really wish I had some good examples to look at. Did your teachers give you any good examples of a TOK presentation? Online I can pretty much only find prezis, which isn’t enough. I’d like a script as well, or a recording to watch. If you know of any such presentation i could watch/read that got top grades, or if you would like to share your own, I’d greatly appreciate …

Sense perception is one of our W.O.K(Ways of Knowing).. I know that animals senses are way more advanced than ours. But what about their perception...(Their ability to organize and interpret information and put into context) Who's better? Are we better at it? Or are animals better at it?

Hi! I have a question regarding the 4th essay title: 'With reference to two areas of knowledge discuss the way in which shared knowledge can shape personal knowledge'. Do you HAVE TO include a knowledge question? My teacher wasn't satisfied with the fact that I hadn't explicitly stated any KQs in my essay, but I didn't really think it was necessary, considering the title? Anyways, I'm kind of in a hurry right now and I really don't know what an appropriate KQ for this title would be . . . does anyone have any ideas? (My AOKs are Ethics and Arts, if that helps)

I have started making my presentation which is next Wednesday. I have come up with this KQ: "How can we know if there is other intelligent life in the universe?". We have been on winter holiday almost the entire time I have worked on the presentation so it has been hard to get feedback from a teacher. I have heard some say this is to specific and it is hard to relate to multiple WOKs and AOKs with this KQ. My RLS is the "WOW! signal" recieved from outer space in 1977.

Title 2: “There are only two ways in which humankind can produce knowledge: through passive observation or through active experiment.†To what extent do you agree with this statement? My teacher said to me that I would want to explore this statement in two ways of knowing and two areas of knowledge. I tried, and I found it very hard when I looked at Sense perception and reason, because I wouldn't really know what to argue for that could help me answer the question. I might be spending most of the text trying to tell the difference between observation and perception which I don't need. So I was wondering whether it would be better for me to focus this question on …

Hello all Im in the preliminary phases of planning out my TOK presentation. At first I thought up the question "To what extent can conspiracy theories be trusted?" , but then I thought this would be too specific. I changed the question to "To what extent should theories be trusted?" so that not only would I encompass conspiracy theories in the area of politics and history, but I could also mention theories in the areas of mathematics and natural sciences. Im also considering how I could link into ethics and religious knowledge systems, perhaps by claiming that these two are often based on theories. I plan on then elaborating on what differs a theory from a truth and…

Hey, everyone. For my essay, my second knowledge question is: "Can we have morals to give us meaning and purpose without religion?" I've already come up with substantial thoughts saying that it is not possible, however, I noticed that I am lacking on arguments saying that it is possible to have morals to give us meaning and purpose without religion. I would really appreciate your thoughts and opinions about this. Thanks.

Hey everyone, is there an official IB deadline anywhere for uploading the TOK Essay to candidates.ibo.org? Our IB coordinator hasn't given us many specifics. Are there any logistics (like, do we need to have our essays approved by the centre before they're uploaded, have the IB coordinator upload it, and so on) or are students simply able to upload the essay on their own? Thanks.

In four week we have our TOK presentation and my group is struggling with finding a GOOD knowledge question (out teachers haven't been so good at giving examples, how to formulate one etc since they are new for this year). So far, we have a kind of question-isch we are thinking about: How should knowledge about ethics be used to restrict freedom? Is this a good one? Or is it possible to formulate it in any other way?

Hey! I was thinking of doing my practice presentation about horse racing, and as you know horses are not treated well after their career, they are sent to slaugherhouses and so on (my introduction).... Hi So I came up with a KQ based on the issue of people believing in superstitious chain mails: How can we justify irrational beliefs? However I'm a bit confused on the term "justify" - is it 1. "justify" whether irrational beliefs are good/bad? or 2. "justify" why is it possible for people to believe in irrational beliefs? or are both fine and I just have to pick whichever I want to talk about? Also, would you recommend using Faith as a WoK in such a KQ? since Faith in itself could be an irrational belief depending on how you look at it. Thanks!

Hello I'm doing a trial for my TOK presentation soon, and as my real life issue came from news, and I found a news report on the issue. It's only an overall report on the news and it's 40 seconds long. Is it alright if I use it in my presentation to introduce my issue, and then take it from there? To me it seem more legitimate coming from a news clip, and afterward I will restate the issue briefly, and go on with my KIs and WoKs and AoKs etc. Is this allowed? Thank you!

Hey, guys! So we've been given time to prepare for the ToK presentation and I've been wondering a lot about which topic to choose. From the ones that I've given some thought to, I think for me the most exciting seems the Sotheby's Banksy auction that happened a few years back. Given that I have to base my presentation on a real world example, I thought that this could be solid ground for a pretty evocative discussion. The thing that I'm at a loss right now is the knowledge question. On one hand, I understand the idea of the ToK argument and the KQ, but at the same time I'm unsure about what I have in mind. Could the KQ be something like this - To what extent can we ap…

My classmates and I are due to begin presentation planning soon and I was thinking of potential RLS. I really really want to talk about films or TV shows, did that with Jurassic Park last year (almost did Mean Girls for a practice one earlier this year). So here are a few potential shows that I was thinking of. 1. Sherlock - the Hounds of Baskerville https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibpJvtB4WIE I basically got my idea from the clip above - it's a clip where John is in the cage and he thinks he can see the hound, but then Sherlock releases him and tells him that he only saw the hound because he was told what to expect. 2. The Truman Show The whole show is about percep…

I am working on ToK presentation that uses Ethics as a gateway to other aoks. However, I am unsure exactly what ethics represents, which is a large issue considering that it is the base of my presentation. Even after reading multiple IB documents, I have found it difficult to find ethics to be anything more than a noun, as it is a circumstance for knowledge to be produced (like a filter), but I cannot see how it results in knowledge in itself. I am looking for advice on how to address how ethics-based knowledge interconnects different indigenous knowledge systems. Thanks in advance, and hope to hear from people soon.
