So, hello everyone. I have been doing an essay on the first title of the prescribed title for ToK May 2015. At the end of the statement, it is stated that we need to evaluate the statement with references to two AoKs, does it mean that we cannot use more than 2 AoKs to explain it further? Please help.

Hi all, I'm just curious about how our TOK grade will be assigned in 2015, because I've been told that this year it is different from the previous ones? So instead of the mark being out of 60, where 20 is the presentation and 40 is the essay, it's been reduced to 10 for presentation and 20 for essay. Does that mean the old level boundaries still works, by simply doubling our marks to fit into the boundary? Also, just to clarify, is our TOK essay is externally moderated just like our EE? So that would mean the grade our TOK teacher gave us for our essay has little to no influence on the actual mark assigned by the IB moderators? Thanks a bunch!

Hello everyone, So I was doing my TOK essay and realised that there is this statement that is included in a theory (or maybe the statement itself is the theory, I am not so sure). So the statement goes like this: "We tend to see what we want to see, hear what we want to hear..." and so on (maybe). I am going to use it in my essay, however I am not sure in what theory the statement is. Can anyone help me? TOK Gods, maybe? Please.

The prescribed title (from the May 2015 prescribed titles) is: 4. With reference to two areas of knowledge discuss the way in which shared knowledge can shape personal knowledge. I'm looking into Human Sciences and Art as my AoKs, and possibly Perception as my WoK. For Human Sciences, I will be discussing socialization and conformity, giving real life examples such as Milgram's experiment. In Arts, I will be discussing cultural movements and changes (Impressionism, Neo-Impressionism, Post-Impressionism). I came up with a knowledge question for this prescribed title, and it is: How far does shared knowledge give certainty to personal knowledge? How is this knowledge q…

I'm going to do my first TOK presentation on Sunday, and I need your opinion on a knowledge question I have formulated on an article. Here's the article if you would like to view it: http://www.ibtimes.com/google-effect-changes-our-brains-299451 The article in a nutshell talks about how we are using Google and the internet in general as our main external memory, and that we're less likely to remember information now and rely on our memory as much, because we have such easy access to information on the internet. The knowledge question I have formulated is this: To what extent has the internet reconstructed our memory?

Hi everyone! I'm a first year IB student and so far my school has covered ways of knowing and about to give us the titles for our presentations... However, I feel like I'm confused about everything that is in TOK. The concepts seem to be very intertwined to one another and every now and then I find myself doubting what I've already learnt and trying to put everything together. Is there any way I can make TOK more simple, enjoyable and relatable? Thank you

Fellow IB takers, Does anyone have any idea or reflections upon this title? I'm currently writing my essay and I just found myself looking at it for 2 hours without writing a single word. Would be lovely to exchange some ideas with someone who is doing the same one! Thank you

Hello, I am writing my TOK paper on “The whole point of knowledge is to produce both meaning and purpose in our personal lives.†To what extent do you agree with this statement? I have already explored what meaning and/or purpose are, and would like to form a second knowledge question based on the first half of the statement. My question - is defining what the purpose of knowledge is too broad? Thanks.

Title says it all. I am very confused, and I think I have gone through all the TOK resources I could find. If not I am wrong, I did ask my teacher about it, but quite honestly - I forgot what he said. Whatever he said, it was with some uncertainty. So now am I unsure. Most places I read that I am supposed to take the title - derive a few 'knowledge questions' from the title, and write arguments and counter-arguments for those questions. And you have all this stuff about AOK and WOK... I think I have understood that part too. Anyways, do I include, explicitly, the KQ in the essay? Should I stick to one, or write about all 2-3? Would I put them in the introduc…

Hey guys! We are asssigned an essay for the winter break and my selected question is "Should we delete bad memories?" This is my first time writing an essay for my ToK class, so any help would be really appreciated. And my main concern is that can we use movies as real life examples?? For exampe can I use the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" as a source to point out that issue as if it was a real life example? And do you have any tips for writing TOK essays at all? I do very badly on my essays normally, and when it comes to TOK I don't even know how to write an essay in TOK structure. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you guys!

However, it still is a matter of opinion…'. Some ways of knowing could be a counter arguments to others. What would you guys say? PLEASE HELP I WANT TO GET IT DONE AND OVER WITH!! I'm writing my ToK essay, and I wonder: Is using the story of Adam and Eve a good example to use when talking about neutral questions? I noticed that the exchange between Eve and the serpent would make an interesting point, but my concern is if whether or not marks could be taken off because the Bible is a religious text that not everyone believes to be true--i.e. possibly not a real life example. Anyone who cares to clear up my confusion is highly appreciated.

Hi, So I'm wondering if y'all could help me find some counterclaims... My prescribed title is “'There are only two ways in which humankind can produce knowledge: through passive observation or through active experiment.' To what extent do you agree with this statement?" I'm basically looking for some counterclaims of both PO and AE so that I can counter the argument. Some examples I have so far are of listening to a lecture (PO), reading a book (PO), seeing someone put something on a table and thus learning about what a table can do (its better than what I just wrote here (PO)), Biology lab (AE), how a farmer knows about land and a biologist knows about n…

Hello IB-ers I just wanted to know your opinions on which topic is the easiest to broad your ideas. And can you be specific a bit on how you're going to broad it? For me I'm still confused either title 4 or title 6. And in title 4: "With reference to two areas of knowledge discuss the way in which shared knowledge can shape personal knowledge.", is it possible to have counter claims? Cause it seemed to me that it is very hard to find many good counter claims, since it is true that shared knowledge shape personal knowledge, in many ways. THANKS GUYS

I need help with my introduction... I chose the second prescribed title : “There are only two ways in which humankind can produce knowledge: through passive observation or through active experiment.†To what extent do you agree with this statement? For what I have in my intro so far doesn't really specify specific areas of knowledge, because honestly I could talk about all of them. I'm not sure if I should... So the question is: should I pick a few specific AOKs to talk about or can I not specify/do a lot? THANK YOU SO Much guys!!

Hey, I haven't really had much in my TOK class, because all our teacher makes us do is watch videos and write reflections about what we saw. I am really confused because i am not sure what exactly knowledge questions and areas of knowledge are. Our teacher had never mentioned them, and was like write a 700 word essay. I totally wrote bulll****, but thats another issue. Also, I am superly confused about how the essay and presentation bits work. Finally, what exactly are ways of knowing? Our teacher doesnt tell us anything. I have zero idea about TOK, so please let me know in as much depth as you possibly can. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have posted about my TOK presentation before, but decided to change it and need some help in structuring my actual presentation. I have picked an article on Putin's idea to his own version of Wikipedia: http://time.com/3587656/russia-wikipedia/ And decided to focus my knowledge question on: 'On what grounds can we judge which perspective is the most reliable?' If you guys have any tips on the actual structuring of the TOK presentation I'd love to hear them. Thank you:)

Hi, For my TOK presentation I came up with the knowledge question of 'To what extent is emotion a more dominant factor than ethics regarding disabilities?' however my teacher wants me to switch out the word 'disabilities' to make it more general. Any suggestions? My knowledge issue was derived from the real life situation The Ashley Case were a set of parents stunted their disabled daughter's growth, sterilized her, and removed her breast tissue in order to avoid her being sexually abused by caretakers, and make it easier for her parents to take care of her.
