I have been set a summer assignment to do this TOK essay. I have no examples and no idea how to tackle this question... if anyone could help then that would be so awesome! - can misleading the public be justified, as sometimes occurs in politics or advertising? Consider cases of international misinformation , or cases of the use of fallicious arguments, in these and other areas of knowledge such as science, the arts or history. pleaseplease help its due in 2 days!!!

My topic is how the human mind limits the physical evolution of the human race. My introduction on the topic is "shocking" the audience, and telling how we can correct the de-evolution that the human race has been going through. I'm saying stuff like we shouldn't have hospitals, we shouldn't have compassion for the sick, we shouldn't have compassion for other humans, we should eliminate obese and homosexual people,etc.... I don't believe all of the above stuff, but it's only an example. Is this too harsh for a TOK oral topic?

Okayy.. So i know there are alot of people that do this, but i've got a presentation coming up and ai need to think of a topic. I've been looking around on the internet, but nothings really come to my attention. I then started to look on the prescribed essay titles to see if there was anything i could do and i found two things, but im not to sure if they can be made into presentations =. The two i found are.. "Are reason and emotion equally necessary in justifying moral decisions?" “Context is all” (Margaret Atwood). Does this mean that there is no such thing as truth? .. but does anyone know how i could make these into a presentation, or link them to a "c…

I got an 18.5/20 for my mark. It was one of the highest in the class, and my video was a big hit with my classmates. Thanks for all the help, guys and girls! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alright, so I've narrowed down my topic a bit (to make a better knowledge issue, and to also make sure that I'm keeping within the presentation time limit). Now, this is what I have, with a few examples Does playing video games negatively effect the mentality …

Does anyone know of any decent TOK textbooks/books? I'll start off by recommending: The Enterprise of Knowledge: A Source Book for Theory of Knowledge John L. Tomkinson Its good for all the TOK you need throughout the course. Of course TOK is about learning as an individual etc etc but I still think people need some guidance?

I have a real hard time in my TOK class. It doesn't help much that my teacher is extremely demanding, but I can't quite think the way she wants us to. Every quarter we have to write four journals and she always tell me that mine are too superficial and that I don't have the proper train of thought, but I don't really know where to start. Help?

Hi, I am currently taking TOK and find it very hard to analyze issues and statements TOK style...what should we include in a TOK presentation to make it a very good analysis. I understand that we have to use the reason, perception, emotion, language thing along with some other stuff like second-hand knowledge, etc. but what do we need to include in a presentation other than those..?? I also would like to know how do we incorporate the (reason, perception, emotion and language) and relate it to any issues or articles, what is the point of using those ways of knowing?? Thanx

For my presentation, I did it on the question/knowledge issue "Is our perception of beauty killing us?" Persuaded to the topic by Dove's video, evolution of beauty, It was an interesting topic, but I am now questioning if it would be acceptable as a real IB topic. For future reference (i.e. my two siblings) what are some non-standard questions/issues that might be actually interesting to research and do for a presentation.

Okay, so, I've chosen to present on whether horses should be used in policing. I have just started to prepare for my presentation, but I have some of the basics. What I have done so far is: For •Good public connection •Passive intimidation •Tradition •Can go were patrol cars can’t •Effective for crowd control Agaisnt •Too expensive •Dangerous (to people and horses: horses can be hurt, people can be trampled) •Horses crap •Extremely stressful for the horses •Forced into the work The only problem is, it really doesn't seem very TOKish. My presentation is due in a few weeks, and I think I've narrowed down my question to either; Essences Of Communism Have Creeped Into The American Way Of Life Or The Era Of Small Government Is Over The real problem is that I'm not entirely sure if either if either are the correct way of going about it. Our teacher didn't really explain what we had to do exactly (Though it is TOk so I should have expected that). Any help would be great.

1. Evaluate the role of intuition in different areas of knowledge. I'm doing title one for May 2008. I'm having some trouble defining intuition, because it's an emotion, but it's very different from other ways of knowing. It doesn't require perception to gain knowledge, it's more of an instinctive insight. Also, I'm trying to decide in which ares of knowledge does intuition play the most significant role. :\ Any ideas?

Well, this is my first TOK presentation. I haven't talked to the TOK teacher yet, but it wouldn't matter much since the presentation is just for practice. What I thought would be a good example of "knowledge issues raised by a substantive real-life situation that is of interest". I believe that computer games do raise knowledge issues and I'm a gamer myself so I'd rather talk about this topic than any other: 1. It creates bad influence with scenes of violence and gore, and sometimes swear words are used 2. It might be highly addictive to players and they end up sitting in front of their consoles for hours doing something that really isn't worth all the time. 3. Video…

Hi, I just started tok this semester and our group was the first to present on a way of knowing.Well, we didn't do so well that our teacher is making us sort of represent it because she thought our presentation idea was good but it was too implicit and that we should be more outforward about our issue and real life example. Help plz? ? Our issue that we thought was "To what extent does language affect thought and knowledge?" We decided to present two arguments (Sapir vs. Pinker) on it and then make our own view point on it with the evidence using deaf people who are incapable of attaing verbal language. We presented that Sapir said that language determines our thought…

I'm new here, and this is my first post. I think this is a great foum; I just wish I could obtain those PDF samples of IAs. Nevertheless, I have recently finished my TOK paper. I wrote on prescribed title # 1 for candidates graduating in May 2008: evaluate the role of intuition in different areas of knowledge. Is there anyway I could email that to somebody who can give me an idea of how I did? I don't know if that's common behavior here, or if that's completely off limits (or somewhere in between). It's really hard for the faculty at my school to give us their assessments of our work in a timely manner. I've turned in every internal assessment, both world lit papers…

10. “Context is all” (Margaret Atwood). Does this mean that there is no such thing as truth? I'm doing question 10 for May 2008 TOK. I want to first define 'truth', and I need help with that... Then, I know what I want to write, I simply can't order it and make it flow.. I personally believe that context changes interpretation of the truth, not the truth itself... And I can give examples in History, Art, Science, and Math (Statistics)... Also, I can talk about how by definition, perception is our interpretation of the world. And that it may be flawed, and therefore what we assume is truth isn't truth, but that doesn't change the fact that the truth does exist... Also, …

So, that's the topic I decided to stick with. And I had it all planned out in my head, I figured I knew what I was going to say. But when I actually sat down to put it on paper, nothing (much) came, and I'm left with three quarters of a page. I'm confusedddd. I spoke about how perception and reason are used in answering this question and how they can both be unreliable. And then I kind of stopped. Does anyone else have any ideas? My presentation is in less than 3 weeks, by the way, so I'm kind of panicking.

Another thing that I love. (Maybe this and the Optical Illusion thread should be in TOK. They're TOKish enough. ) Some of these are kind of lame... 1. I've been thinking about doing something related to the Korean protestants held hostage in afghanistan , since i'm korean.
