  1. I have been very confused as to what we need to put in the implications section for our ToK essay. Even my teacher and the evaluator who came in to speak to us seemed very confused. They said we are not allowed to bring up anything new in the conclusion as part of our implication section and at the same time want us to extend beyond the RLS in the claim/counterclaim. Does this seem right? Are there some Alumni that can chime in with what they did?
  2. In my TOK essay I am using three AoKs although the question asks for two; however, two of them (econ and psychology) are in human sciences, is this ok?
  3. If anybody needs help with their ToK essay or presentation, contact me.
  4. What do I have to do to fulfil the "with reference to two areas of knowledge" part of a prescribed essay title in TOK?
  5. How do you structure a TOK essay answering a prescribed essay title that includes the phrase "Discuss with reference to two areas of knowledge"? Should my claim refer to both areas of knowledge? Or should my claim refer to one area of knowledge, and my counterclaim to another area of knowledge? Should I maybe even split the essay into two sections: one on one AOK and another on another AOK? For example, for one KQ, should I do: Claim = AOK 1 then, Counterclaim = AOK 2 Or.... Claim = AOK 1 and AOK 2 then, Counterclaim = AOK 1 and AOK 2 Or..

Tok question from the May 2017 session. It helped me get an overall A on the subject (25 out of 30). I had a C on the presentation so this must have been graded 19/20.

  8. Alright, so I am furious and panicking right now. I finished my TOK essay over a month ago, something I slaved over. I did the suspension of disbelief title, and back in September, I asked my teacher if having the arts as one of my two areas of knowledge was okay, and he said that was fine. I turned it in for him to submit. But now, guess what? I just read I'm not allowed to use the arts for that title. I don't know exactly the mechanics behind it, though. I focused on "music" in the arts, which is different from "theater" (which the title specifies), so can I get away with it? Or do I have to
  9. Hi I am currently working on my tok essay. My school uses the APA citation format which has in-text citations. I was wondering if the in-text citations would count as a part of my word count?
  10. Hello everyone I am quite confused as to how the ib grades you for tok.. do they get an average of the essay and the presentation or ....what? I got a 10 for my presentation but according to my teacher's comments i think I'll only be able to score a 3 or 4 on the essay, so is this a C? Thank you!
  11. Should key events in the historical development of areas of knowledge always be judged by the standards of their time? Any real life situation ideas for this question???
  12. Hey guys, I was wondering if any alumni on this site would be willing to proofread my ToK essay and offer any comments to better it. I would really appreciate it! Thanks!
  13. It is only knowledge produced with difficulty that we truly value . To what extent to you agree with this statement?
  14. Hi everyone! I need help deconstructing the prescribed 2017 titles, particularly title 4. My TOK teacher wasn't able to provide much help because this is our school's second year with the IB program. Over the past two years (I'm a senior now) it's been pretty hectic, teachers nor us students know what we have to do. Any help I appreciate! Please help I really want to do well even though my school is struggling to help us all get through this last semester. "In the production of knowledge, traditions of areas of knowledge offer correctives for ways of knowing.” To what extent do yo
  15. Our TOK teacher is not a teacher, he has no idea what TOK is neither do I and my whole class. The TOK Essay is due in a month and I have literally no clue of exactly what to do with the TOK essay. Is it like a normal essay? How do I use the TOK terms? Do I make an argument? Do I need a knowledge question? Do I need to cite everything I say? Like personal knowledge or shared knowledge? And yes, I'm concentrated during class it's not my fault that I don't know what to do. I've read many guides and sample essay and I still don't know exactly what to do. Plz help. THANKS!
  16. The ToK essay question I chose says to "explore this question with reference to two areas of knowledge.” Would I lose points if I used 3 areas or would it be okay?

  19. Hi all, I just recently uploaded my WIT Essay and TOK Essay on candidates.ibo.org, and I was wondering about my upload status-- there are check marks beside my essay titles that shows they have been "verified". They are both in the stage "ready for authentication". Does anybody know what it means by "verified"? Does this mean it has been verified by my school and has been passed through the plagiarism check? Thank you, Lee
  20. I have exactly 1600 words for my TOK essay - doesnt include KQ heading, footnotes, bib and cover page. and I have exactly 4000 words for my Eco EE - doesnt include headings, diagrams, diagram labels, calculations, formulas, footnotes, bib, appendix, abstract, table of contents and cover page. Is it okay or too risky? I've re-checked the word count at least 3 times.
  21. Hi there! I'm doing my essay on the 4th topic - “Without application in the world, the value of knowledge is greatly diminished.” Consider this claim with respect to two areas of knowledge. I'm arguing that this is not always necessary, that the value also depends on the knower's perspective. Can I include that point? Or is that diverting from the topic? It would be great if someone could reply ASAP as my final submission is coming up..!
  22. Hey everyone! I've been working on my TOK essay. I'm doing PT #5: To what extent do the concepts that we use shape the conclusions that we reach? I'm trying to define "concept" and it's doing my head in. There are no TOK definitions of "concept" in any of the TOK books and guides I own and there is nothing online that suggests what TOK defines as "concept". What do you think the definition of "concept" is?
  23. I really really really don't understand the way the TOK essay should be written. I've seen several examples online but I am still confused about the whole essay. Can someone please explain to me clearly and simply what is expected for the TOK Essay??
  24. Hi, I'm writing my TOK presentation and essay right now. I'm wondering how many knowledge questions I need to address in my both the presentation and essay. For the essay, I know you have to derive your knowledge questions from the prescribed topics, but do you answer to prescribed topic or the knowledge question? And if you do answer the knowledge question, how many do you have to address in your essay? I'm a bit confused. I've made a main knowledge question which I have brainstormed to using various smaller knowledge questions. Do I have to make more knowledge questions? Do I answer th
  25. Hello I'm just now starting my TOK essay and I had a look at the essay grading criteria. Here is the assessment criteria so that you don't have to google it: I noticed that the IB has made a clear difference between a level 5/4 essay and a level 3 essay in respect to the examples that are used in the analysis of knowledge questions. A good essay uses "real life examples" whereas a poor one uses "examples". I'm very confused about what the IB is trying to get at here. Does it just mean that I should not make up my own theoretical examples like "imagine that you were a member of Pluto's c
