So I haven't really started working on my PPP because I though it would be the easiest so I shrugged it off 'til the end, now I'm not so sure because I've seen a few samples and it's obviously a lot longer than I thought and I'm really confused and my teacher is confusing me more. My stimulus is The Crane Wife a Japanese Folktale. Really cute but sad story, but it gives me some really good themes to work off of like the importance of trust in love and relationships and greed as the greatest downfall for humanity (why else do we tear apart our planet?). So even though the crane wife is originally a japanese story and the usage of a crane has a lot of signifigance to the ja…

Hey Guys!, How are u? I´m writing you to know the different perspectives about as knowledge in arts. I need your help! So my question is: What do you count as knowledge in arts? And i have ones which i would like to debate with us!! Knowing in arts means to have the technical and skill sufficient to to produce a piece of art? or means having the enough knowledge to recognize a piece of art? Have Knowledge about the art history and the various artistic movements through the mankind history, implies knowledge in art or knowled OF art? You may establish one striking difference between the two expression? I really like knowing your differences opinions about this lin…

Hi guys, I will be starting my independent study and my genre that I will be looking at is animation biography so the films I've chosen is Persepolis, Waltz with Bashir, however I also chose Grave of the fireflies, which isn't a biography so I thought I may just look at animation for adults. My question to you all is what other animated films which is made by the USA or England is created for adults? I've had When The Wind Blows but I got bored with the film to be honest but if there isn't any I may just look at it

For my Theatre Practical Performance Proposal Section 3: "HL students should write a report of 1,000-1,500 words which should comprise of a commentary on any of the following aspects of the proposed performance: - Philosophical Rationale - Socio-historical influences - Traditional/cultural influences - Possible impacts and resonances" Now, we're doing just a practice one of these (I'm in IB1) and our stimulus is THE GUEST HOUSE. Here's a brief summary to what we're doing: It's all naturalism (based off of Stanislavski) and each student has taken on a new identity - for example, I play Clara Phillips, a rich heiress who suffers from OCD and severe paranoia. We've made it…

Hi, my theatre teacher told us to start thinking about our RI topics... I'm really interested in musical theatre so I was thinking of doing something related to musicals, probably something like costume or movement investigation in the musical CATS. But are their any theatre practices related to the musical or the style? I need to choose a theatre practice first.. so please suggest me ideas of interesting RI topics (it'd be awesome if it could be related to musical theatre). Thank you!

So, I'm doing Art HL option A and I've been really worried on my theme. Should there really be one unifying theme? My teacher told us that themes aren't really strictly checked because some students from other schools have no unifying theme (as in, their pieces were all out there) and they got a pretty decent grade. Would it be better to have one unifying theme or should I take the risk of not thinking of one and explore lots of stuff? I have been thinking of abuse and war, but is it alright if it's kind of vague? thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I managed to get some sample questions for Section A of the Listening Paper from my teacher so I thought I'd share since there are barely any resources available online and stuff. These questions are for Mozart's Jupiter Symphony and Copland's El Salon Mexico. Good luck! EL SALON MEXICO. Outlike the structure of El Salon Mexico. Make specific reference to the score, using bar numbers and instrument names to make your answer clear. Copland used many folk melodies in El Salon Mexico. Discuss the way in which the structure of the work is woven around these melodies. Copland draws on elements from traditional Mexican folk songs as well as early 20th century Europea…

Today is January 8, 2012, and I've actually started to get nervous about my IB Theatre HL. My teacher has not given us any deadlines or a time frame to go by. We have only briefly discussed an idea for my research investigation. Is my class extremely behind? Is it too late to catch up? Can anyone walk me through the next year and a half and give me an idea of when I should be getting different things done? I have no idea and any help from other IB Theatre HL kids would really, really, really be appreciated. Thank you so much

My class is looking at last years exam questions to prepare for our exam on Friday. The question he wants us to answer for tomorrow has me completely stumped. Its on one of our major works. I think I'm just over thinking it because it is supposed to be nearly common sense, but can anyone help me? Simplify the question or give me some examples? This is the question: Demonstrate the rhythmic sophistication found in Copland's El Salon Mexico by discussing at least four elements/features in the passage between rehearsal numbers 11-27 (bar/measure 103-267) Any knowledge or comments are much appreciated!

Have it, for free! My teacher gives us often a lot of occ stuff because he's very new to IB, let me know if you want something more I have tons of stuff! Goodluck, A. SampleA_statement_en.pdf

Hello! So my PPP is due in a week, and I have made pretty good progress on it so far, but I was wondering. Basically we are graded on the process and of our development of ideas and how the performance and production elements relate. Now I am potentially the worst artist, and if I tried to sketch costumes, stage designs, blocking, movements etc.. I feel it would make section 2 much less coherent even if sketches may help the process. So I was wondering if I could use images that I found on the internet as long as I cite them. Any IB Theatre experts out there?

I'm in Visual Arts HL, Option A. I've completed my blue book, but do I need to have my entire workbook full? I've got a handful of blank pages at the end. If I do put anything in them though, it won't be related to my theme because I've finished with my main body of work. So, is it worth doing some filler pages?

Is it just my school that doesn't let you do like nude portraits even when everything's covered? I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this-- teachers say stuff is "inappropriate". But some people with really nice stuff have been told they can't hang it up, can't even get a grade on it. And I think that sometimes there's a bit of a double standard-- there's one girl who does naked backs, with like roses or planets in them, which are generally better than other peoples' stuff, and she doesn't get her stuff censored. So what do you all think? Is it fair for schools to censor "inappropriate" nude art? (especially considering this is IB which makes it less the school's busin…

Hello! I am doing HL Theatre so I know that my word count is 3000 words. However, after reading the subject guide over and over again, and doing extensive googling- I cannot figure out what actually counts in the word count. I wrote and directed a 3-act play, so I wanted to include script excerpts and journal excerpts into the IPP, does that go into my word count? Also, are quotes/headings part of the word count? Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks

For our TPPP, how many theatre traditions and external productions and school productions should we mention? It is better to just mention one or two and go in depth? Our class did a unit on naturalism, devising theatre, commedia and bunraku... and I've watched about 5 external productions. How many should I talk about, because 30 minutes isn't actually that much. And, how symbolic should our 7-10 images be?

IB Music: Copland Bar Nos SOS! We've been working from enlargements of the Boosey & Hawkes edition of ‘El Salon Mexico’ (HPS 49) which has only figure numbers/rehearsal numbers. In the exam we have to take a 'clean copy' of the 44-page miniature original. All the analysis I’ve found is in terms of bar numbers so I can’t actually find them in the score! Does anyone have an edition with bar number in? Which is that edition? Could you please publish the bar numbers corresponding to the 41 figure/rehearsal numbers, or - if you don’t have the figure/rehearsal numbers - the first bar number for each page? Thank you so much! Myrto

I saw in another thread that the PPP has to have at least five images: costume design, set design, collage, and two more of the student's choosing. Does anyone know what they mean by collage? Also, what images did you put in yours? I have costumes, set design, plot progression, sound, and a couple of images related to the stimulus. Is that enough?

So my question is something along the lines of "How have elements of Plastic Theatre been used in the realist play "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams?" I was wondering if this question would be suitable for an IB Theatre Research Investigation. Would the IB accept "Plastic Theatre" as a legitimate theatrical form? And is this question pertinent to Theatre, or does it become more of an A1 English essay question? I realize these are questions I should ask my teacher, but I'm trying to get help from everywhere I possibly can. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks! Oh yeah, and Good Luck to class of 2011 for their exams!

Hey there, I was told by my art teacher to upload the relevant pages of my RWB to the IBO website sometime in the middle of this week, seeing as the website was 'not ready yet' when I sent her the scanned investigation pages for marking, last week. I have my login details and everything, but there seems to be no such place to upload anything of any kind (besides the TOK essay...) I choose to retake VA HL from doing the May 2011 exams since I want to do better, so that would be why I'm a little out of the loop with this apparently new way my school has of doing the final VA exams :/ Supposedly, the discussion that would normally be had in person with the examinator will…

Okay my PPP is due tomorrow and I was stupid enough to start today... My stimulus is DaVinci's Vitruvian Man. So is the PPP basically separated into 3 different sections (I'm HL)? Can someone please tell me these three sections? This is what I'm assuming they are: Section 1 - 250 word pitch Section 2 - Visuals, with a commentary? (like notes that aren't in essay form) If I'm correct, can there be an unlimited amount of words? Section 3 - Is this the 1000-1500 word essay? What is it even supposed to be about?

So due to "extenuating circumstances" my entire IB Theatre course has been completely off topic and non-relevant to anything relating to the actual IB curriculum, and there are only two of us in my drama class that are IB...so I'm basically flailing around trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do for my assessments. What I'm wondering is for the TPPP are these "essential elements of the performance and production processes" set elements that are specific within the different cultures? Or is it just what you believe them to be depending on the performance(s) that you are basing the presentation around. In general, are they (IB grader people) just looking for an ex…

I didn't take art as a subject in GCSE but I did take Graphics and ICT. I've always been interested in technology, and because I want to study Graphic Design in university, I decided to take art as an IB subject. However, the problem now is that I find it difficult to be creative and come up with ideas for even the simplest things like the page layout. Also, I am the only person in my class who has not taken GCSE art and so I feel quite intimidated and can never work in the class. I am falling back and I really want to catch up and do the best possible. Also, one more thing.... I am a perfectionist so I take ALOT of time on everything, which does pull me back someti…

I was just wondering if there was actually any need to 'decorate' our IWB pages- I get that there has to be a balance of image and text and all, it's just a lot of my class are putting a fair bit of effort into decorating pages which I haven't... I get that it looks pretty and all it's just that if I was to do it I'd probably spend too much time decorating and not enough time doing actual art... Thoughts? Thanks!

Hello fellow IBers I've been working on my RI topic, researching, outlining my structure, forming a good research question, etc. But my teacher wants me to refine it even further, and I'm having trouble with this. Topic: Naturalist theatre Play: A Doll's House - Henrik Ibsen My initial research question was "How would an actor employ Stanislavsky's acting techniques to prepare for the role of Nora Helmer in A Doll's House?" and his comments were mostly 'define your particular aspect', 'what aspect are you preparing for', etc. Can anyone offer any advice/clarifications/ideas etc, to help me out? I'm working on my Musical Links Investigation and one problem that I am finding is that I cannot find both the audio and the sheet music. With respects to something like Traditional North American Indian Dance Music, I can find the sheet music, but this doesn't usually tell me what the drums are doing and all things I could hear in the audio. Basically I was wondering if anyone has found any good online music libraries or websites that give both audio and sheet music?
