Okay, So, my really awesome theatre teacher got fired my first year of IB. Ever since then, we haven't really done ANYTHING in my class. I feel like I'm so far behind -- and there's only one other IB theatre student. We're really confused as to what we need to turn in and when, since our new teacher (who, unlike the one we had between her and the really awesome one, is actually trying to get stuff done) has no clue at all. What should we be doing? Can anyone list out the requirements? Also, we got the prescribed stimuli for theatre, but we have no idea what to do with it. Do we write a play? Is this our internal assessment? HELLLPPP. I am not failing IB just because my re…

I'm really confused about my Research Investigation. I tried to take a Brechtian approach but got confused into what i was actually researching. I have no idea how to structure it or use quotes that i have found. This piece is already due and i have no clear idea into what to do or a good structure. Any help?

So I've written and directed a naturalistic play for my school's One-Act Festival (a bunch of short plays performed throughout a couple of days), and that's basically my IPP. The problem is, my teacher said at one point I should choose between writing and directing when I'm actually writing my IPP. But, which one should I choose?

i'm having alot of trouble with my RI in finding an appropriate question. ive jumped from topic to topic but finally ive choosen my focus as childrens theatre and my text as an adaptation of CS Lewis's novel 'The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe' into a play - but now what? ive tried forming questions using the childrens theatre conventions and how they could be appplied to ligting or set but found then this requires creative imput which is discouraged in the RI. so now im thinking of going with what seems to be a pretty standard question of: "what performing skills are necessary for an actor playing the white whitch in a traditional children's theatre production of the li…

Hi! So my teacher just gave us our stimuli and i just feel a bit lost I know that we're supposed to create something inspired from our stimulus and i created a play centered around the disfigured daughter of a tribal chief. I want to know if its okay to incorporate 2 different cultures into the play. I wanted to mix a bit of 16th African Tribe history with South American tribal wear. I want my costumes to resemble south american traditional dress, but i still wanted the setting to be in 16th century Africa. Is that okay? or is it too much? Should i stick with one culture? Another question Is it okay if i include 4-6 costumes and a floor plan instead of a set re…

Hi I'm working on my RI now and I'm just not sure if my question is suitable or if it needs to be changed or refined. What influence does costume and make-up have on a performer portraying the role of Dussasana in a Kathakali performance of the ‘Killing of Dussasana'? I just don't know how to approach a question like this. PLEASE HELP!!

Hello, We are starting to discuss our musical investigation papers in class, and I am looking for feedback on my idea. This is only my teacher's second or third year so she isn't super familiar what does and does not work. I am thinking about comparing Finnish folk music and modern Finnish popular music. My teacher said that that is most likely okay but that I should do some research. That's all I have so far on the topic, but I'd like to get the two musical cultures down before I get too far into it. Thanks for your feedback!

I started researching possible cultures to compare a few weeks ago, and this wednesday I have to tell my teacher what cultures and songs I'm going to compare. I was thinking Hip-Hop and traditional Calypso but my teacher said its very risky, as they derive from the same root. What cultures could I do? People who are currently working on their MI or have finished it, could you please post which cultures you are comparing and what the similarity is. Any other suggestions to a culture i could compare Hip-Hop or Calypso to is also appreciated. Many thanks guys...really need your help on this one. Zurichboy

last month our teacher came up with the idea for all the IB1 theatre students to blog about the week in detail about what we did, maybe something that others could profit from (it includes things about stanislavski and his practices ect ect) Just incase someone wanted to look at certain aspects of theatre in practice, feel free to have a look around! http://istibtheatre.blogspot.com/

Hello everyone, I am a bit confused about the marking system for VA. I'm doing Option B SL, so my studio work is my internal assesment right? I was told that the works have to be sent in soonish but I always thought internal assessments are graded by the teacher? What role does the examiner play? Does he/she grade the external assessment ie the IWB then? Hope you can help me clarify this Thanks

For the past year I've been completely into my visual art theme and I've always wanted to know what other people have picked. So this is a space for anyone to share what their theme is and how they decided upon their theme. Mine is focused upon Japanese art and western culture influencing on Japanese art. I arrived at this topic because of my love for Japanese culture and the language. I've explored a large array of different media with all kinds of topics.

Another one of my paranoid questions: Say I wanted to upload some of the work I've done for IB Art to deviantArt or some such place. Would this be bad in any way? Like, if the IB examiner saw it and didn't make the connection that it was my account, would it be seen as plagiarizing? Or can I upload my work with no possible repercussions? Or some middle ground? Any input is much appreciated.

I'm in my second year of visual arts HL, and although I'm sort of supposed to have a theme right now, I don't. All I really want to do is perfect my drawing skills, and, if I wasn't doing IB, I'd do that by copying drawings by the old masters. Question. Can I submit my own drawings that are copies of other artists (mostly Renaissance painters) as pieces for the exhibit? Or do they have to be changed in some way to make them my own? Are pencil drawings not sophisticated enough for IB? Thanks!

Hi, I'm in my first year of IB and my teacher wants me to start thinking about my cultures for the Musical Investigation now. My problem is that I have no idea where to start. He said it would be a good idea to pick a popular culture and possibly a world music culture. I was thinking of maybe doing something like dubstep or drum and bass for the first culture but then I'm stuck for the second... EDIT: just thought of this... would comparing jazz music to reggae work or are they too similar? How did you all choose your cultures? Any help is greatly appreciated Yasmin

Film Extended Essay - The hardest topic to do an ee on?

Okay so my title has been changed like so many times. But right now it is "Do non-linear films enhance the pleasure principle, giving the audience maximum gratification?" I'm finding it ridiculously hard. Like THE hardest essay i've ever had to write. I've searched everywhere for theorists and things to help me with it but I can't find anything to write about. Has anyone got any good sources I can look at for help with this title? Also how many points does the EE actually count for again?? Thanks guys

Hello all! I really need to know this. In the Listening Paper for Music SL, are we allowed our scores for Jupiter and El Salon Mexico? My teacher seems to believe that we aren't allowed to have them, and so she's forcing us to memorize parts of the score (themes) so that we can "regurgitate" them on our exam papers to defend our points. And not just a rough idea of these parts. Every single detail, from the tiniest rest to the biggest chords. On the 21st, we have a test to see how well we've memorized these excerpts, of which there are at least 50! I find this ridiculous. There is no educational benefit in cramming all that in our heads, so why would IB require this? I re…

Hello everyone! I've decided to do my RI on Beijing Opera and costumes; and am now wondering if my chosen research question is too broad or too narrow. "How will the costume of Lady White in the Beijing Opera, "The White Snake", look like and how will it be used?" OR is it better to discard this thought and focus more on acting?: "How will the character of Lady White in the Beijing Opera, "The White Snake" act and move?" Thank you in advance! ~~Sushiimonstarrrr

I am having trouble narrowing my RQ. Well, I want to do research on Cantonese Opera, but I am not able to find the books that I need in the library. So therefore I turned to classical theatre (Greek theatre. I decided that I wanted to focus on Aeschylus and the play will be Agamemnon. The RQ's I have thought of so far are: how would the characters in Agamemnon by Aeschylus speak and move on the stage? Or How would the choir emphasize their role in Agamemnon by Aeschylus? Our teacher (who just gave birth to a boy) planned for us to do the RI march, april and may! Our class is pretty ticked off at such a mistake. We have not even been informed about the RQ. I am having to l…

I am close to finishing my IB year 1 and I might be changing schools next year to do my second year of IB, the problem is that in my new school they do not offer Psychology HL and I would have to replace it by music HL. I have been playing guitar for seven years and I like to think I have mastered the instrument, nevertheless I do not feel confident reading music sheets or doing solfege. is it possible for me to do music HL in one year ? Let me know what you think about my situation.

So far this year, most of my work for IB Visual Art HL has been digital work (drawn with a tablet in GIMP or Inkscape) and I just wanted to make sure this was allowed. My teacher originally said it was, but now she's second guessing herself and it's freaking me out because I really don't want to throw out half my work so far. So is it allowed? What will the examiner think? I'm saving all my files, and I figured I could have my laptop at the examination to show the examiner the progress of the piece (so they know I didn't steal it from the internet, because apparently that's why they haven't liked digital art in the past). Please reassure me

Ok so if i do take visual arts as a 7th subject, probably SL, i would only have to go to the art teacher during my free periods (2 or 3 of them) and possibly, but not likely, have to go before school like once or twice a week to turn in my work. I'm really interested in Art but i have to take chinese instead so, even though i don't wish to continue art to university, would it be an extremely bad choice to take it as a 7th subject?

So right now I am in Visual Arts HL Y2. Last year our teacher had us do about 7 "guided" assignments where he gave us a general topic or source of inspiration, the medium we were required to work with and occasionally the style it was to be done in (impressionism, surrealism etc). This year we are finally allowed to develop a concentration and begin work on it. I know that total I will need 12-18 pieces (paintings in my case) but I am unclear if they all need to be a part of my concentration or if I am supposed to use the guided assignments as well? I feel like the guided assignments I have done really don't fit very well with my concentration and I am wondering if this w…
