How does the IB feel about swear words? I've written some of the script for my PPP and characters swear in it... would they dock points for vulgarity?

I'm writing my Independent Project Portfolio right now and I'm almost done and I'm wondering how the IBO wants it to be formatted. I understand that there needs to be a Table of Contents. But how/where do they want the word count? What do they want to be in the header? Where we should put our candidate number? Should the preparation, process, and reflection be on different pages? I don't think there are any specific requirements for the format, but if someone could give me a general sense of where/what things should be included in terms of formatting the paper, I would be supremely grateful. Thank you so much!

I'm doing my IPP currently on our recent production of 'Waiting for Godot' by Samuel Beckett. Just wondering as i'm unsure, is it possible to talk about 2 roles in it? For instance to talk about my character and my role as front of house director. This is because there isn't much to talk about in the second role.

I want to compare 20th century violin music from belgium (by Ysaye) with some modern pop/folk music by an accapella group from finland (Rajaton). Here is there music: I have no idea wether these are distinct musical cultures, and i'm not even sure what culture the finland one would be. Thanks!

Hi! So I'm retaking Art this year. I have everything I need pretty much, but unfortunately I'm not happy with some of my studio work. Are retake students allowed to use some of the Studio Work from their previous exam? (It's mainly photographs I'm interested in using).

For my visual arts class, I am required to have a certain number of "TOK entries" in my workbook. My last TOK assignment is to evaluate the claim: Art is a lie. My teacher said that, if I want, I can get other people's opinions and arguments. So, I would love anyone to tell me their ideas, arguments, maybe some art works as examples or whatever you want... Thanks

I recently had my art workbook stolen and the deadline for it is in a few days! I'm not sure what to do and I talked to my teacher about it but she hasn't been very helpful Does anyone know what IBO's reaction will be? I was hoping for a exception but I haven't got my hopes up yet. My teacher predicted me a 6 and was wondering if instead my teacher could vouch for me because she's seen my work. It would be much appreciated if someone replied soon because the deadline is in literally a few days and i'm freaking out.

She hasn't told us anything really, and when I asked her she just told me we would "talk later" adn she's been saying this for far too long for me to wait any longer.

ok, so i started work on my ppp , i got some basic themes using the stimulus and all and a lot of those themes coincided with fight club the book by chuck palanhuik so i decide to use the basic plot as my story for the ppp,and halfway down the line one of my theater buddies tells me that i cant do that. so can i dont that or not ? i will cite the book in my bibliography of course and i have already mentioned it in my pp that one of the main reasons that i chose the plot from the book was because there were a LOT of coinciding elements. Thanks in advance

Can anyone tell me what the general guidelines are? Like, can I record in a studio if there are people sitting around, and I'm performing for them? Or do they all have to be live performances? Can I lay my live vocal track over a pre-recorded instrumental track? Or, if I am recording live, can I run the vocal track through a separate line during the recording? That's live, but it's just recorded better. Thank you so much!

hi everyone, i just wanted to make this topic to get some help. this is my second year of IB, and i'm having a really hard time as it is. on top of how hard all the subjects are, i have to worry about the teachers and how they teach us - my school is very small, and it doesn't care about education as much as its reputation, which frustrates me (if i said frustration i probably could have turned that into a rap ...) but anyway, i don't know if i'm going to make sense but i'll just start rambling - ib art, hl: 16 projects, including your workbook. so far that is literally all i know. the i have a different teacher than i did in year one, and i was recently told that these …

So, are there any restrictions that keep me from using someone else's photographs in my projects? As long as a cite the original photographers will i run into any problems? Will the IBO detract from the work if a large portion of the piece is the photograph? Thanks in advanced for any light on my query!

So our first IB art project's theme is chosen by our teacher: South Africa so I was thinking of doing a zulu mask, and have already got it all planed, but as retarded as I always am, a crazy idea just bumped in my mind, I wanted to paint the zulul mask with a color pattern like deadpool, ( thinking of mixing the African tribal art with the modern American comic art together) is that a good idea or should I just stick with my plane doing a normal mask, I really don't know how I should explain the meaning of the mask if I paint it like dead pool but wouldn't it bu reealy cool?? any idea guys?

hello... I do IB Art and we are doing this project called 'Art For Sale' basically at the end of november, we are going to sell two of our photography... it has to be based on culture... this is the first picture i am going to use + blend it in with this cloud and ended up like this http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn53/metal666forlife/artistic%20pictures/editedpic2.jpg but however...i can't really sell this picture because the first picture is only 71.7kb and the ones we are selling is kind of poster size... so it won't work.. however my art teacher said its just a problem and can't be fixed.... if my picture becomes poster size...its like really blurry already and …

Art is a very wishy-washy subject. For most subjects, it is pretty self-explanatory on how to get a perfect 7. But I always hear that people very rarely get a 7 in art. So share your tips and let's try our best to get through such a wearisome subject. Here are my tips: for the studio work: - make it as attractive as you can. you want the first impression to be a good one. - make use of a variety of materials- be open minded/inventive. who says you must stick to paper all the time? - the title really aids the viewer in figuring out the theme. having said that, don't make your theme so obvious that it just clicks when you look at the art. it should be thought provoking - it…

Okay, so my issue isn't with the comparison aspects or finding a topic, or anything like that. I'm doing Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata mvt 3 vs. Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. However, I find that the hardest part about this is the fact that it has to be in the form of a media script. How does one go about doing that? And why in the world can't the IB just make us write an analytical paper? Would that be too much to ask? Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. My classmates are doing absolutely wacky things with composers returning from the dead and appearing on a debate, and creative things like that, and I'm absolutely lost.

Dear IB survivers, I need your help! I have chosen the theme of fashion because I love fashion and everything about it. I have been getting good grades 6/7 but I feel like I need something to definitively push me on the side of 7. The IB loves pieces with deeper menings and cultural/social/politcal bladibla values and I have a hard time comming up with stuff like this for fashion, as it is a bit superficial and I have stressed the point of aesthetic value for quite some time. Any ideas? Or maybe an artist that has a smiliar theme? I can find fashion photographers and illustrators but I have a hard time describing the purpose of their work other than to display clothes...…

The theme I chose (last minute when I was doing my 2nd project) is comparing culture. Horrible! Im not even interested in it and it just seems wrong. i know I can spin a lot out of it but i just dont like it. So now Im thinking of some new themes. The theme that really interests me is mental disorders. For my final in art class, I had to chose a quote and do a project off it. I chose a quote by Henry David Thoreau: "The question is not what you look at but what you see" How can I develop a project that ties in with the theme of mental disorders and the quote? I was thinking of schizophrenia because it deals with impaired perception of reality. But I dont know how to work…

So, I have a couple questions about what IB expects from the IWB. My teacher keeps telling me they require certain things, but I haven't seen any of the requirements mentioned before other than by her so I'd just like to clarify. First, do the piece and the writing about the piece have to be on the same page? Or could the piece be on one page and the writing be on the back of the previous page (so the piece and writing would both still be visible at the same time)? Second, my teacher just told me we need to have complete pieces instead of sketches and that we should draw a rectangle in which to do each piece before doing them instead of, say, doing a drawing and then just…

Can we use absolutely any genre for the IA? I was thinking of doing an early 20th century Russian war song along with modern-day EDM (electronic dance music) or some other kind of modern popular music. I don't know if IB allows that, though. My teacher hasn't really been much of a help because she doesn't have time to go over things with us. Thanks for any help.

I was just wondering if there was a prescribed list of works that we had to choose from for our performance component in IB Music. Or can I just play any piece I want? Also is there a maximum for the number of pieces I can play? A time limit for each piece (I know its 20 minutes overall for HL and 15 for SL) Oh if anyone knows the standard of performance required to get a 7 please tell me! Like, is the grade of a certain piece taken into consideration when marking??

With the exam dates for the Visual Arts students fast approaching (my school's set in March), I was wondering if anyone had any advice from their own teachers or from their experience in presenting their art to the IB examiner? I do not present till next year, but I was wondering how does a student present their art? Is it very simple, with the art just put on a wall or displayed? Or can it be somewhat like a real gallery, with music playing and such? I enjoy the idea of going full out, with instrumental music, a big title, very similar to the galleries I have attended, but I'm not sure if that would be considered distracting and cost me points.

Hey guys - I just wanted to make this thread because today I was in my art class, and a friend and I opened an IB art Y1's workbook and she had pointed out we weren't allowed to print out titles. I wasn't sure where she got this idea, and I'm not sure if it's true or not because I've definitely never read it anywhere - what the Y1 student did was print out (for most of her workbook pages) printed out the title - like for example if you see an example workbook page below, the title is like that, but printed. Is this okay? Are there any other do's and don'ts in the workbook?

I was just wondering whether there was a general format for the Research Investigation. My teachers have said that the IB want a lot of background research into the type of theatre but do you have to put that first? Is there any particular way they like you to write it. As in, background first, how (for example) I would stage this play in the style of..., conclusion? Also, if anyone has a marking guide they could send that would be very helpful! Thank You

I am a bit confused regarding this paper. Is this a suitable topic? Tradition/Practice: Yakshagana Play: Ramayana (I'm selecting a prasanga--episode--from the epic poem) Research Question: How would Sita and Rama be costumed in the (insert episode) of Ramayana? Concerns: must the piece of theatre be an epic poem, rather than an actual play?
