hayleec
Hello fellow IBers I've been working on my RI topic, researching, outlining my structure, forming a good research question, etc. But my teacher wants me to refine it even further, and I'm having trouble with this. Topic: Naturalist theatre Play: A Doll's House - Henrik Ibsen My initial research question was "How would an actor employ Stanislavsky's acting techniques to prepare for the role of Nora Helmer in A Doll's House?" and his comments were mostly 'define your particular aspect', 'what aspect are you preparing for', etc. Can anyone offer any advice/clarifications/ideas etc, to help me out? Would be much appreciated! x Reply
Nicktom24
Your topic is still too general. The idea behind the RI is to choose a specific aspect of a practice and evaluate how that practice's techniques apply to a certain production. You focus on acting in general... Try refining it to something specific (costumes, make-up, stage movements, lighting, etc...) instead of just acting as a whole. Think about the methods that Stanislavski employed in the above aspects that I have listed. How did he use costuming to help the actors become the role? What style of make-up was best to accomplish his purpose? Whatever you choose just make sure to connect the aspect with the practice, and the practice to the production.
