I am not coping with IB Theatre. The assessment and workload is just too much and I'm dying :/ I want to switch to Art, which is possible, but I was just wondering what the assessment is like? Is it hard to get a 7? I'm pretty confident, I adore visual arts, I only chose Theatre because it's less subjective, but I will probably fail if I continue :L Thoughts? Advice?

So I want to make a table looking at the differences between the two works but I do not know how to compare these categories at all? Does anybody have any tips on how to get kick started? These are my current headers: Tone Colour Harmony/Tonality Rhythm/Phrasing Structure How would I go about comparing them? I have my works annotated but I have not got down any real notes which has suddenly become a serious problem when it comes to answering Section A. Some tips on how to go about it would be great. Thanks, P.S. I noticed the title fail, ESM*

I am doing my RI AGAIN because apparently I have messed up my previous one. I did put so much effort into it and unfotunatley my teacher was not experienced enough to warn me about my mistakened question rather than approve of it. My question was as follows: How Does Meilziner’s Stage Design Integrate Features of Expressionism, Selective Realism and HarlemRenaissance to Visualize Williams’ Perspective toward the Two Different Worlds of Blanche and Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire? I thinkI should also let you know that after already submitting my RI, my teacher read in the eximer's general notes for the course that students are not to conduct reaearch on prod…

So I have to turn in my RI research question soon and I'm having a really hard time coming up with it! I chose absurd theatre and the play "The Bald Soprano" by Ionesco. I love the play but I have no idea what to write about. Any ideas? What have people done for their RIs in general?

Hi! I'm moving to a new school in September where I'll do Visual Arts HL. As preparation for the course, the Art teacher has sent us summer work in which we have to present a toy in 20 different ways each time linking it to an artist and writing about his/her techniques etc. I'm half way done but I have no idea if I'm on the right track or if everything I've done is wrong. I have no experience in IB research workbooks, and I've never looked at a real one. I've researched it on google a lot, but I think it would be really helpful to see how people set out their IB RWB. So I was wondering if people were willing to show just a page or two out of their book, or link me to a s…

I'm going into my second year of IB this year, but I've been kind of undecided about which classes to take for the SL/HL credits. Right now, my HL courses are English, History, and Math, but I'm certain I can't pass the Math HL so I plan on switching to Art HL and taking an SL class for math instead. I took a general art class during my freshman year, but I haven't done anything for IB at all. My art's not very good, so I should opt for HLB, right? I'm still in the process of changing my schedule; I just wanted to check if it would be possible for me to take the Art HL. It seems like a lot of work, but it's got to be better than Math HL.

At our school the past art results were rather disappointing and I heard that it is damn hard to score good easily. I think the highest grade in SL was a 5 and the highest in HL a 4 for this year's graduates. I'm doing option B at SL and was wondering if it is as easy to score at least a 5 in art as it is in other subjects. What do I need to do in order to do well and what does the examiner look for? cheers

Hai fellow IBers! I have just stared my final year of IB and am thus in need of starting my Art projects for the exhibition! I haven't chosen my topic yet, and that is not what I'm looking for here either, though the desicion depends slightly on my question. Is it possible to have a video as a piece of work for the exhibition? I am not thinking about having the whole exhibition with videos, only one of the pieces. I have tried to find information about this, but failed. So if anyone know the answer, I'd be grateful!

[/size Hi guys,I have a serious question. How to work in IWB? I mean does it always have to relate to studio work? or we could work on our areas of progress? I know experience in art is really necessary. So if we want to experiment with different media on different theme? Our teacher had given two three assignments on which we had to work and reflect but I was not satisfied with my work cause I'm completely inexperienced I wanted to do some free works ? Can I do it in IWB?

Here are my ideas so far: The role of women throughout the ages women in today's society third culture (inspired by the years I spent living in Africa) the effect of words on the way we think (inspired by what a wise mentor once said to me: "When folks use words such as "always" and "never", they are "all or nothing" thinkers and as such will always be sheep and never shepherds. The reason for this is that shepherds have to think and reason, sheep simply follow a familiar and unchanging voice. Keep thinking, young woman.") I need help narrowing it down to just one or two ideas to present to my teacher. Any new ideas would also be appreciated. What is your theme?

Hey there! So, I have like a thousand questions about IB Music, although I won't haunt you with all of them. And yes, some of them might sound stupid, but I want to see if I actually get the whole thing. Would really appreciate an answer, as my nearest IB Diploma School who teaches Music is like... three countries away (I'm moving off for UWC in the US, yay!). 1. The syllabus, am I correct if I say that it's about 1/3 musical theory, 1/3 composition and 1/3 performance? 2. How's the exams? I see it's okey enough to write an exam on musical theory and analysis, but what about the rest? Is it recording/oral? 3. Do I have to be a world-class singer if I want to take IB Music…

My IB Music (HL) teacher (and I, by extension) was unaware of curriculum/syllabus changes that occurred in 2011, and so I'm afraid that there might be a mistake on the compositions that I submitted for my IA. On the form, I should have put that my compositions were "Music Technology Composing", since I used software to both compose and to create the soundtracks, but instead it was simply listed as "Composition". Will this cause problems in grading, and does it jeopardize my HL Music score and my ability to get the Diploma?

Theatre RI

Well, you see, my theatre teachers pretty much have no idea what they are doing and this is the first year that our school has had this class. So far we have been told to choose our topic and start researching. We did a practice RI for our midterm and they messed it all up but never explained how to actually complete the paper sucessfully. So I've chosen to research Japanese Noh theatre, and I've started finding some sources. Now I know we need to read a play from that practice, but can someone who has done this, or knows what they are doing explain to me how the paper is structured/ what to write about in the paper??? Thanks so much!

For instance, after doing some work with watercolors I looked into Alex Pardee's work and also discovered this amazingly talented watercolor artist named Lora Zombie So what are some things that you guys have researched?

I was hoping to use Drum & Bass as one of my genres, probably to be compared with African drumming. My questions are: 1. Is Drum & Bass... easily workable? (Will it be considerably more work than the average topic choice?) 2. If not, then can anybody let me know of some good sources for research on Drum & Bass? 3. What are some true Drum & Bass classics? 4. What are good sources to check up on African drumming? I guess I'd really like the first two answered as soon as possible, and don't expect you to do all the work for me. I just need to show my teacher that a comparison of these topics is able to "write the paper for itself."

HI everyone, I'm in my first year of IB theatre (HL) and right now we're doing a "fake" RI, just to try. I already chose realism as my style and narrowed it down to Henrik Ibsen's " A Doll's House" but now I'm stuck. I have absolutely NO CLUE how to formulate a question and how a good question would sound like... So maybe could anyone tell me a question or just give me some advice on how to formulate one?? This would really be a great help thanks

Unfortunately my music class has a horrible teacher, who knows nothing about either music or IB Music. Can someone please tell me how the exam is formatted? What kinds of questions will be asked? Will they be general, as in "Write an analysis of this piece," or more specific? Any links to past exam questions would be greatly appreciated.

For the three sections of the IB Music exam,, do we have to write in a specific format? For example, I know that for Section B, we're allowed to use bullet points. Can we answer sections A and C in bullet point format? My test is tomorrow, so if anyone has any idea, I'd really appreciate it. =)

Just a little background: In my IB music class there are 9 students including myself, and sadly the teacher that used to teach IB music at our school left and became a vice-principle, so we got someone new. What's even worse is that this new teacher has not really taught us anything this year. All she had us doing for both semesters is watching video lectures, reading the textbook, and working on our own. She has not really helped us in any aspect of the course, not even with the MLI. Knowing this, when I asked my friend who'd taken the course last year, he very quickly offered to help and even gave us some of his study notes. This was written for the IB music class at my…

So I have chosen my two cultures (Barque fugues and African Traditional Music) and I have chosen my African piece (does it matter its quite short?) and I have only one link so far which is polyphony. I was wondering if links in instrumentation is a good link as well? So now that I have chosen my African piece and almost chosen my fugue, how do I start writing this? I honestly have no idea where to begin? What structure should I use and what should be discussed in the intro and body paragraphs? Thanks for the help

Hello! For the MI, does IB want both a comparison AND a contrast of the works used, or just a comparison? In the examples at the IB website (http://occ.ibo.org/ibis/documents/dp/gr6/music/d_6_music_spp_0904_2_e.pdf), I noticed that the top scoring one (which scored a 19/20) only compared elements of the pieces, with no contrast whatsoever. Yet one of the mark schemes I read online (http://www.stedwards.oxon.sch.uk/images/musicib.pdf), briefly mentions contrast in Criterion B. Is this what IB wants? Should works be compared and contrasted, or just compared?

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light as to where I can find good websites to help me revise (world music, different era's..stuff like that). Im doing HL Music and I'm in my second year, the school decided to get a brand new music teacher who has never taught the IB syllabus before so she hasn't been as helpful as I would like. I have to come up with a topic including an annotated bibliography with 5 sources, for my IS (Independent Study) by April 27. But still I have no idea what my topic/films should be. Any suggestions? The only idea I have so far to is to compare the romance in British and French films. The films I would use for this would be Love Actually, Love Me If You Dare, Notting Hill, and I don't have a 4th film.

I chose the topic dance because I have a love/ hate relationship with it. Initially, I was content just painting/ drawing people dancing, but now i think it needs to go beyond that. So i put colours on a paper and danced with it so they ran down the page. Then I drew a kathak dancer with the big bells used in hindu temples instead of ghungroos ( any number between 20 and several hundreds, depending on experiece of dancer) . Do you have any ideas? I'm very lost in terms of how to go about writing my IR, and I think it has to do with my question, which is currently "How can an actor playing the role of Truffaldino in A Servant of Two Masters utilize lazzis to improve characterization?" The only version of the script I can find are in 'scenario' form, meaning they don't indicate where or when to use lazzis, making it very difficult to pinpoint. I think I need to research something more concrete and factual than lazzis/movement. However, I have very little time (2 days at most) to research and write the entire IR and turn it in to the IBC. I'm really not sure what to do... I was thinking of maybe changing my topic to…

Also, when we're creating our play, does it have to be in a specific type of theatre? Or can we just not conform it to a type?
